  • How can I convert DVD- video into Apple's format so that it can be played and streamed from my Mac?

How can I convert DVD- video into Apple's format so that I can play the content on my Mac and also stream it to my Apple TV? A few years ago, I transferred all of my home videos onto DVD but now would really like to put these onto my Mac and stream them through Apple TV to watch on the "big screen". Any advice would be most welcome!! Thanks

    MPEG Streamclip.
Apple do not have their "own" format. You need to convert your DVDs to H.264 though.

  • I can't convert a DVD video into my movie format?

I can't used my Quick Time Software with all futures, I want to convert from the CDRoom a DVD video to movie format into my computer, would you help with a good solution.
    Thanks

Are you referring to a commercial and hence copy-protected video DVD? If so, it's illegal in the US to attempt to break the copy protection, so we cannot help you with that question here.
If that's not what you mean, please post back and explain further. Feel free to post in your native language if you're more comfortable that way. There are people here who speak other languages and can probably help you more quickly.

  • Converting dvd vidoes into a .mov format

If I convert my DVD videos into .mov format files for the web, will the Quicktime player or plug in be the only available player to open these files. Basically what I am asking is does everyone have to have the Quicktime player or plugin available to open these files?

.mov is a container file form, not a compression type. You can use any one of dozens of compressors for a .mov file. Widely used are mpeg-4 and Sorenson 3. Those will both play in QT 6. H264 is also being used a lot but it requires QT 7 to be installed.
By the way, the QT mpeg2playbackcomponent will not export mpeg-2 format. It is playback only. Also, note that QT will not export sound from muxed files like mpeg-1 or mpeg-2. This freeware will export to various formats with the sound included. Note that there are both Windows XP and Mac versions of this freeware. Mpeg StreamClip

  • Can iTunes burn DVDs into our idevices?

Since burn CDs is a piece of cake but can iTunes burn DVDs into our idevices.

I haven't tried to convert DVDs to iPod yet (had it for a week) but in the past I tried to convert DVDs to my PocketPC handheld using many tools and found that there is no quick, easy and trouble-free way to do it. The fact that Apple chose to use specific (proprietary) video codecs does not help. You have to get your hands dirty, learn a lot about video, codecs, bitrates and so on. It was more time and energy than I was willing to spend. I may give it another try though. I bought the Apple AV cable to view video on TV and it'd be a shame to not use it.
You may find some tutorials and other conversion tools at this website: www.dvdrhelp.com, they also have discussion forums. (hope it's ok to post this link)

    Well, you know what...
If we want to put apps in our iPad or iPhone or iPod, we need .ipa file..

    what should I do?
    T.T (Crying)
Tell me the way to solve this.
"HOW CAN I PUT MY APPS INTO MY IPOD?"

You need a certificate to be able to install ipa.
Ipa is accesibles via Product / archive in the menu. You must be in compiler iOS Device for it.
Otherwise you can directly compile on your device. (with run if your device is connected to your Mac)

  • ITunes 11 - how can I change the genre of a movie now?

So I've had iTunes 11 for about 3 hours now and so far it *****.  One of my main problems is I can't find how I can change the genre of a movie anymore.  I used to do this from Get Info so I could organise all my movies in to my own genres that make sense to me which helps me find what I want to watch when using Apple TV.
It will still let me do that for movies I bought before I "upgraded" to 11 but for the movies I bought this evening, after upgrading, the genre drop down is locked down.
Am I just looking in the wrong place?  Or have Apple somehow got the idea that pointlessly preventing your customers from organising their content in their own way is somehow an improvement and I'm stuck with their nonsensical genre classifications?
Same thing goes for movie titles now I think of it - I've edited movie titles after purchase (e.g. I've put HP1 in front of the title of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone and HP2 in front of Chamber of Secrets) so that series list in watching order, rather than alphabetical order, on my Apple TV.  It's not letting me do that from Get Info either
Please someone tell me I'm just doing it wrong - I don't think I've the patience to jump through the hoops necessary to get 10.7 back!

I had the same bug in songs. It was directly related to tracks purchased in the iTunes store, they wouldn't allow any changes, it was all grayed out.
Here's how I got around it. When I selected more than one item and any other item was not from the iTunes store it would allow me to Get Info and change everything with no problems.
My suggestion is that if you need to, add in a movie from your hard drive (anything at all, it will be a dummy placeholder) that you can you use to select along with the one you need to change. Use command click to select non-contiguous files (even works in different genres), then get info (or command i) and then change your info. You can keep using the same dummy file for as long as you need to to fix the files with incorrect info, then delete it when done.

  • Help! I can't my dvd's into iTunes!

I have converted my dvd's into mp4 special for an ipod but when I try to bring them into iTunes nothing happens. I have try dragging and dropping, importing, adding to library and nothing seems to work. I even restarted iTunes, restarted my computer and retried the conversion from dvd to mp4. Why won't iTunes accept my mp4 files?

okay i know this probably wont help but theres many of us out there trying to figure this out. Is it just one dvd perhaps the same one, or is it every dvd you've tried to download.
If its one, all I can say is its like magic, these computers. It seems as though there is like a magic encoding that nobody knows how to get rid of. You never did state which converter you have used?...I know one thing that worked for me was trying different converters, free ones worked better than the payed ones I must say! Other than different converters try put it into a side format like a lay-over on an airplane trip sounds stupid but works sumtimes. If you convert the dvd into a diff format like just mpeg and then mpeg4 it seemed to work.

  • Turning DVD Player into a .mov file?

Rencectly,I recorded from my camera and converted it into a program named "DVD Player" and it only opens with it,when I insert the disc it shows it up,but the disk has files named "VIDEO_TS" and "VIDEO_RM" Is there anyway to convert it into a .mov? Here are the files that are inside these files:
    VIDEO_RM
    VIDEO_TS

The presence of the Video_ files indicates that this is a DVD that is meant to be played in a DVD player.
If the disk is not a commercial product then there are programs available that will rip the dvd and make it possible to convert it.
Discussions about doing this are not allowed here (in fact this post may not make it). The best I can say is google what you are looking to do.
    regards

  • Can only change dvd player region 5 times? (idvd player)

me my dad both got computers. I put a dvd in it said it was the wrong region code. then i looked it up on help and it says you can only change the region 5 times. We (the united states) are in region 1 but my dad has some japanese (region 2) discs he wants to play. why can you only change the region 5 times?????????????????

Region encoding is what the motion picture studios use to control the worldwide release of their movies. Apple limits the region change / settings to 5 times. The only way around this is to install a new motherboard....sorry.

  • Can I import DVD's into imovie HD

Here is my question. I have recently had some photos taken of myself and the photographer gave me an actual DVD (like a movie that you can watch on a real DVD player) of the proofs in a slide show. I would like to post this movie (it's short) on my iweb website but can not figure out a way to import the DVD into imovie HD so I can then make it smaller for use in iweb. Any suggestions?
    Thanks

    Hello Jonathan,
you will have to convert the files contained in the DVD to a format readable by Quicktime. Normally you would convert the DVD to full quality DV format but as you are going to post it on the web, consider resizing it (e.g. 320x240) and using a suitable codec (e.g. Sorensen3 or MPEG-4). A movie in DV format would be too large a file to view online.

  • Settings for changing DVD to streaming web movie

I have found parts of an answer to my question strewn across this discussion group. I'm hoping someone can put the entire process down in one place for me and others.
Here's my story. I received a formatted DVD of a friend's 100 minute film. He recommended Handbrake to rip the film. Handbrake's default has ripped it into a mp4 format. Trying to load that into imovie looks like it will take hours. SO, instead, now I am processing it with Quicktime Pro, to turn it into a quicktime movie. Nonetheless, this process has taken over an hour. THEN, I plan to load it into imovie HD, create a few shorter excerpts, and export them for web streaming.
I have a feeling i didn't need to do all these steps. Can someone tell me where I can find the most concise description of both efficiently formatting, (please include actual settings), to transform a DVD to the correct film format, and then imported into imovie for eventual streaming over the internet. Are there several different formats for the internet. Anyway, I am a pro sound editor so I do understand the concepts, but not the actual process. Thanks in advance.

I work using QuickTime Pro and you can, too. No need to bring the file back into iMovie and wait for it to convert it (again) just to edit or rearrange clips.
The same steps outlined above can create multiple selections as new files and you can join them together using Pro.
Make your new "selections" and save these new QuickTime files to leave your original untouched.
Open all of these new files in new Player windows. Let's say you have ten new "movies" you wish to join together.
Starting with the clip you wish to make the "start" of your new file you can build it up by simple copy/paste.
Open clip "2", Select All (Command-A) and Copy (Command-C).
Switch back to the clip "1" file (Command-~ to toggle through open windows) and place the playhead at the end of the file and Command-V to paste. Close clip 2 window (Command-W) to help keep things organized and have fewer open windows.
Open clip "3", Select All and Copy. Open movie 1 (it will have the playhead at the end of the timeline) and Paste. Close window 3 and open clip "4" to repeat the steps until all have been added together.
This file is still known as clip 1 and you want to Save As (self contained) and rename the file so you don't overwrite the original.
You can then delete all of the "parts" to free up HD space and continue editing the final (joined) file with Pro.
No importing into iMovie. No re-compression of already compressed files and very fast if you use the keyboard shortcuts.

  • How can I change the language of the movies ????

Would like to watch movies from my iPad in English but I am defaulted to the national language of my account... Can't seem to find the way through this... Anyone able to help much appreciated..

    Hey there Carter,
It sounds like you are wanting to change the language of a movie you purchased in iTunes. You can do that by following the following steps from the article named:
    iTunes: Language settings for video
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5562
On iPad, tap on the speech bubble on left of the playback controls. If you're using any of your devices with AirPlay to stream your movie via Apple TV, you can change the audio or subtitle language from your device as you watch.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Sterling
