Can iTunes delete tracks from Playlist + FROM IPOD ITSELF?

Hello,
i'm pretty a newbie when it comes to iPod and iTunes. Haveing a nano and seen this problem today: I organize all my tracks in Folders on my HDD and drag the folders to the Playlist Bar, so i make a playlist of a complete folder. Then i drag the playlist on the ipod so i gat the same content on my nano as in the original folder on the harddrive. Now sometimes i want to delete some songs inside a playlist off the ipod (for example from a playlist with mixed single tracks, not albums). But when i delete a track out of the playlist, it still maintains on the iPod. Can i make Itunes delete the song automatically off my ipod when i remove it from a playlist? the way it is now i would have to see in the playlists, what tracks i want to delete and then go through the unsorted list with the tracks and delete the tracks by hand....

I am using manual playlist, not this autofill feature. could you please explain this a little bit more in detail? wehre to uncheck the tracks, on the ipod playlist or on my local playlists on the left side of itunes?
I dont know if you got me the right way. I am having a large playlist with a load of tracks. from this playlist, i would like to be able to delete tracks, but not only the playlist entry, also the files should be deleted from the ipod?

Monty's solution will work if you have left the songs in one of your playlists. Another idea if that doesn't work is to check your iTunes list for that iPod. Check at the very bottom beneath the albums, artist,s and other content to add to your iPod, and be sure that you don't have individual songs selected to be added as well. If you do, eliminate them from that bottom list, and you should be fine.

  • Can i delete songs from ipod touch once i upload them to icloud, can i delete songs from ipod touch once i upload them to icloud

once you upload songs, photos or documents fron ipod touch to icloud, can you delete them from ipod touch to free up memory from ipod touch and can you access them from icloud without downloading to ipod?

You can't upload music to iCloud unless you are an iTunes Match subscriber, and if you are the songs are uploaded or matched from the iTunes library on your computer, not your device.  Photos are only uploaded to Photo Stream temporarily (30 days), for up to 1000 photos so it's not meant to be a permanent storage option.  The uploaded photos are also generally of lower quality than the originals on your device.  Also, only photos taken on your device after turning on Photo Stream are uploaded.  Finally, when you turn Photo Stream on, uploaded photos will be streamed back to your device in a Photo Stream album (so it actually uses some of your memory rather than saving it).  As for documents, only iWork documents are uploaded.
If you really want to free up storage on your device consider more permanent cloud storage services such as DropBox (which will handle photos and all documents).

  • Can't delete tracks from iCloud

I'm trying to delete tracks from my iCloud instance.
In iTunes, I delete from my library all of the tracks that I want removed from iCloud. A pop-up dialogue asks if I would like to remove these tracks from iCloud as well. I select the checkbox to indicate yes I do want. The tracks are then visibly removed from my local iTunes library. The next time iTunes Match runs, however, these tracks are re-populated in my iTunes library, as being matched in iCloud.
Obviously I am missing some nuanced step in this process. Any hints?
If it helps, I'd be perfectly happy to have my entire iCloud library deleted, and start fresh.
Note: I am not deleting the files themselve from the filesystem, just trying to remove their entry in my iTunes library.

    Solved.
My problem is a duplicate of https://discussions.apple.com/message/16988521#16988521
Solution: delete tracks in groups <900, and be patient.

  • Can't delete file from iPod

I have a podcast episode on my iPod that iTunes doesn't think is Music, Podcast, or Audiobook, so the only place it appears is in a playlist. So I can't delete this podcast from my iPod at all. When I delete it from the playlist, there is no way to list it from iTunes unless I create a smart playlist searching for artist or podcast name. So why doesn't apple have an "All" category so that I can delete these files that can't be deleted? These type of things used to show up in the Music list, they changed the Music list to not show all files in the Library.

Shift-Delete worked. Now if I could only find the podcasts that got deleted from my iPod that still take up space somehow. Even those don't come up in smart playlists. If I click on my iPod (top level) I get a graph of Audio, Other and Free space. My "Other" reads 122 MB. What is "Other"? It can't be podcasts because I have 381 MB of those.

  • Can't delete podcasts from iPod Touch!!!  They still remain using space!!

Ok ok, look. I can make them not SHOW UP anymore, but they are STILL ON THE IPOD.
If I make a smart playlist where podcast=true and move it to the ipod, i can SEE they are still on the ipod!! But you cannot delete files from the smart playlist!!
I dont want to delete them from iTunes because I want to still have them archived on my computer.
If i deselect all podcasts from the sync menu, then sync, they are only removed from the podcasts display on the ipod... the actual files are still taking up space on the ipod
APPLE PLEASE FIX THIS. some of us WANT manual control of the files, not just sync this and that.
right now, my ONLY solution I can find is to restore the ipod, reload all my music i want to keep, reload my apps, etc etc.
ALL I WANT TO DO IS DELETE SOME PODCASTS!!!
    Does ANYONE have a workaround?!?!

just to say, you can delete items from itunes, and still have them stored on your computer, just click 'keep file' and it will be removed from itunes yet still be stored in the podcast file (or songs etc.)
i'm not sure whether this will solve your problem, and i haven't had much experience with smart playlists, so i'm not sure how to get them to do what you want, but I have some podcasts that i want to sync automatically, and others that i don't. last night i worked out how to do it.
    1. my ipod is set to sync manually
    2. under the podcasts tab, it is set to sync '10 least recent unplayed' (there are several different options to choose to your requirements) episodes of selected podcasts.
    3. in the podcasts boxes, the ones i want to sync are checked.
    4. these now sync to my ipod.
    5. but, because i am manually managing my songs etc. i can still drag and drop any others that i want to my ipod.
but i'm a bit confused. you are using smart playlists to transfer your podcasts to your ipod. as i say, i'm not too familiar with smart playlists, but is there a reason why you don't just drag and drop them to the ipod/sync them using just the podcast syncing feature?

  • ITunes deletes everything from iPod Touch when I try to sync.

This has happened to me five times now, and I am incredibly frustrated. When I start to sync my iPod Touch with iTunes, instead of actually syncing it deletes everything from my iPod (music, videos, podcasts, audiobooks, etc.; apps and other data aren't deleted). I have over 30gb of audio on my iPod, so it takes longer than 12 hours to get everything synced back up again. This first happened to me right after I upgraded to iOS 6, so I thought it was just a bug, but it has happened four times since, and three times in the last four days. I did a factory restore of my iPod last night and then synced it all night, and then iTunes just erased everything off again when I was syncing it again this evening.
Moreover, when I attempt to sync again to get my music back, iTunes only transfers some of my library. And each time I cancel the sync and restart it, the number of songs transferred over decreases. Sometimes soft resetting the iPod fixes this problem and allows the entire library to sync, but last time that wouldn't do the trick, which is why I tried the factory reset. It's still happening though, as I'm trying to sync right now and it's only showing 1500 of my 8000 tracks.
I have an iPod Touch 4G running iOS 6 and am running iTunes on Windows 7 32-bit. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have a similar problem with my iPhone 4S running iOS 6 (Win7 64bit). When the first beta of iOS came out, I used the restore trick to load it on my phone without a developer license. I knew what I was getting into. This problem happened about 4-5 times through the various beta releases. When iOS was released to the public, it would not let me upgrade to it, so I had to DFU my phone to get it on the final release and restore a backup. Fine, but now I was on the official release. The problem has occurred twice now since then.
I sync my phone daily as I have a lot of playlists that use the "Last Played Date" attribute. I will sync my phone and the next time I go to play a song, all my music is gone. It is very intermittent. To fix, I have to uncheck all my playlists in iTunes, sync. Then recheck my playlists and have it readd. Like OP, I have 35-40GB of music, so it takes a long time to have to re-add everything.
I originally attributed this to a bug in the beta so I dealt with it. Now that I'm getting the error on the final release, its a bit more annoying. My wife has a 4S as well (Vista 32bit) and she has not had this issue.

  • Can Itunes read library from ipod instead of HD?

Is it possible to have itunes library read from the ipod itself? I want to delete my 11gigs off my HD to save on space but still want to be able to use itunes to manage and search for songs and playlists as if they were still on my HD but using my Ipod. Thanks

You can delete songs from your iTunes/computer hard drive after transferring them to the iPod, and for this you need to set your iPod to manage the iPod content manually.
However, this is an extremely risky option because when (and not if) there comes a time to restore your iPod, which is a very common fix for iPod problems, then all the music would be erased. If you no longer have the music in iTunes (or any other back up), then all that music would be lost.
At the very least back up your music to either cd or dvd before deleting it, particularly any purchased music/videos, as this would have to be bought again if it were lost. See this about backing up media.
How to back up your media in iTunes.
However, I'm not sure what you mean by "search for songs". And there will be things you cannot do, like sync play counts/ratings etc back to iTunes.

  • Can't delete podcasts from Ipod Touch

I have an Ipod Nano and an Itouch, and I manually manage the podcasts on both of them. The Nano works fine. On the Itouch, I can connect my Itouch, go into podcasts under my device, and delete them, but they aren't deleted from my Itouch. However, they no longer show up in Itunes. It seems bizarre that Itunes not only can't delete them, but actually thinks that they are gone from the Itouch, when they are clearly still there. Any suggestions for how to get the Itouch to work like the Nano?

I have this same problem and I have to say, reformatting your iPod is a terrible solution. Actually, I don't know that it qualifies as a solution at all. Obviously if you delete everything and then just put back the files you want, you can delete the buggy podcasts. The hope is that there's some way to do it without wasting the extraordinary time and effort that it would take to reload an iPod--especially if your HD isn't big enough to save all the sources.
It's absolutely ridiculous that this software has such a silly bug and yet, because of the holy Apple code of keeping everything closed--no access to the files in any usable way, no third party analysis/repair software, no advanced settings in iTunes and absolutely zero management functionality on the iPod--you end having to delete everything whenever anything goes wrong. What kind of crappy computer product allows for only one way of addressing all the problems (namely nuking your device)?

  • How to delete tracks from iPod / Storage problem,

I'm using iCloud to store music but keep getting a message " storage almost full". when I check icloud theres plenty of storage. I think it may the tracks on the iPod creating to problem. Have plugged ipod into iTunes and shows a " On this iPod" option, which has 404 tracks. I try to delete by selecting delete but does not work and looked at other suggestions e.g slide the track lesf to right which also fails. Any advise apprecaited. Phil GT

    - On the iPod if you swipe a song left or right a Delete buton should pop up. Tap it to dele the song.
    - You can delete all Music by going to Settings>General>Usage>Music>Music> Edit in upper right and then Delete.
    - You said " I try to delete by selecting delete but does not work " just whee are you doing that?
    - Same for "slide the track lesf to right which also fails.".

  • Can't delete songs from iPod Touch

My ipod touch is displaying songs that don't display in my playlist when I sync it with the computer, about 20 random songs that I don't even recall downloading....and it won't let me delete the individual songs from the ipod by sliding and clicking delete.  Any tips?

If they do not play on the iPod then
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync/delete all music and resync
To delete all music go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Music>Tap edit in upper right and then tap the minus sign by All Music
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
      - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • ITunes deletes music from IPOD?

I imported a cd to iTunes. I then put it on my ipod. I then unplugged my ipod. Then deleted the music from iTunes.
The next time I plugged my ipod in and accessed iTunes it deleted the songs from my ipod without me asking it.
I did not want the songs deleted. Why did this happen? Do the songs have to stay in my iTunes library in order to stay on my ipod?
I am stumped why this happened. My ipod is a Ipod shuffle 2nd generation
Hope this made sense to anyone who knows how to help.
    Thanks

This would also be the case for any iPod set to autosync, & not "manually manage" in the iPod preferences.

  • How Can I Delete Albums From iTunes Without It Deleting Them From My iPod

    Please help!!!!
How Can I Delete Albums From iTunes Without It Deleting Them From My iPod classic 160GB?

    Hi, welcome to Apple Discussions.
I assume you've already consisdered manually managing your iPod's contents and rejected that idea.
I wouldn't recommend it as a solution, but if you delete the files for the albums leaving the entries in the iTunes library you can carry on syncing normally. iTunes will complain that it can't sync the missing files but it won't remove the copies from your iPod. Once you're happy with how things work you can can choose to suppress the error message.
While handy as a temporary workaround if space is an issue then it's probably time to look at moving your whole library to a bigger drive.

  • How can I delete albums from my ipod nano 9th gen

How can I get Ipod nano to display Albums when connected to itunes?
How can I delete Albums from my ipod.....either using the device stand alone or when connected via itunes?
Both the above actions are easy using other devices and software ( Samsung MP3 and Windows Media Player...for example)
But after a year of owning my Nano I still cannot figure out how to do either of these tasks.

Just re read myoriginal question and realised I had not explained what I want to do very well.....
If I connect my ipod 9th gen to itunes.
How do I get it (itunes) to display albums and then delete them?
Finding them amongst the many thousands of track listing and then deleting them one track at a time is extremly tedious........
Surely there must be a way I can get itunes to display albums and the pick the one I want to delete?
