Can itunes make a second library?

Hi..
I have a music library and I make animations. When I make animations I need to listen to sounds from the sound library, but itunes adds these to my main library. As these come in as various names, these are getting confused with my music library. Is there any way of separating my music collection from my film making sounds?

To create or access a second (or more) library, hold down the Option key (or Shift key in Windows) when launching iTunes. In the resulting dialogue you will get the option to create a new library or navigate to the other Library.
Note: You can only have one Library open at a time and iTunes will default to the last library opened if you don't use the keyboard command to choose one. The new library will be empty until you add content to it. You need to close iTunes and open it again while holding down the shift key, this time choose to open an existing library and navigate to your original library: Using multiple iTunes libraries -Mac

  • Can i make a second library in the latest iPhoto

i want to scan and play around with my mother's photos. I thought it would be better to make a second library for this but having looked on the 'help' and followed directions, i cant take all the steps it advises ie close iphoto and then reopen holding options key. the option start new library isn't there. is there a way? Thanks

Thanks Larry. Actually thats what I tried as suggested in the help menu but the options come up as 'remove from dock', 'open at login', 'show in finder'.
However I have now found a way to do it by going to 'File', 'switch to library' and when that window appears with however many libraries have already been created (if any) and the option at the bottom of that box to 'create new' which I've done.
As you say, it's questionable whether it's necessary but my sister and I have inherited masses of regular photos that our father took over many years and I figure it will be easier for us to deal with them all if we have them in a separate place.....I am also easily distracted!
    Thanks again for your reply

  • I tried to make a second library, but my first one was deleted so I did it again but now I have doubles of every song. How do I restore my itunes back to the way it was before I tried to make a 2nd library?

Like I said I tryed to make another library, I did what Itunes told me to do but it only erased the library I had and made a new one. So I did it again but I now have duplicates of every song. How do I get my it back to the way it was, before I tried to make a second library?

C:\Users\Cheye\Music\iTunes should be the original library. You should be able to connect to it as follows.
Close iTunes, wait a few seconds, click the icon that starts iTunes and immediately press and hold down the shift key. Keep holding until asked to choose or create a library. Click choose and browse to the file C:\Users\Cheye\Music\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl.
Depending upon exactly what you did this has either restored your library, or done absolutely nothing at all. That was the reason for asking you to check using the script.
Assuming you still have a library full of dupes there are a number of ways to go. I've written a script called DeDuper which can help remove unwanted duplicates which I discuss in some detail in this  thread. While it should work it will be ideal if it discards the copies that are outside the media folder C:\Users\Cheye\Music\iTunes\iTunes\iTunes Media. I've a feeling it will do exactly that, but it depends in part on exactly you got into this mess. It would be worth doing a few sample runs of just a few sets of duplicate files first.

  • I just downgraded from iTunes 11 back to itunes 10.7.5. My iTunes is now working from one of the Previous Music Librabies. How can I make that previous library my current library? Also, I can't empty iTunes 11 frome the trash. Why not?

I just downgraded from iTunes 11 back to itunes 10.7.5. My iTunes is now working from one of the Previous Music Librabies. How can I make that previous library my current library? Also, I can't empty iTunes 11 frome the trash. It tells me iTunes 11 is still open. What's going on?
    Thanks in advance!

Without providing details on exactly what you did it is hard to provide an answer.  It's like me saying, "This chocolate cake I made tastes wrong," but not providing the recipe for review.  Maybe it was the garlic in that particular recipe.
If iTunes is successfully using a previous library which you rename to iTunes Library.itl then that is now the current library.
Have you restarted your computer and then tried emptying the trash?

  • Can i make a second window??

    oki thx!!!!!!
Yes, you can create another window that will popup. It
will be contained in the "AppletViewer" utility. just
    something like:
    JFrame newFrame = new JFrame("Frame");
newFrame.show();and you will have a new frame popup. (security
    concerns shouldn't be a problem)

  • Library on PC was restored, how can I make a new library?

My PC was restored as it had unrecoverable viruses and spyware etc on it. Im wanting to make a new library on my laptop for my iPhone - i dont mind about all the music not going to my laptop, i know this cant happen (i would like all the present things on my iPhone to stay though). But id still like to be able to add music and stuff to my iPhone and be able to sync it. Any help is much apprectiated.

Depending on what you have selected under the various tabs for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes on your restored PC, nothing else on your iPhone will be touched or lost.
iTunes includes an option to transfer iTunes content from an iPod or iPhone that was purchased from the iTunes store, but this is for iTunes content that was purchased from the iTunes store only.
First you need to re-authorize your computer with your iTunes account with iTunes. After doing so, with your iPhone connected and without syncing, at the iTunes menu bar go to File and select Transfer Purchases From - the name of your iPhone.
If any 3rd party apps do not transfer from your iPhone to your iTunes library, you can re-download the apps with iTunes on your computer and you won't be charged again for a purchased app as long as you use the same iTunes account to re-download the app that was used to purchase the app originally.
Regarding any photos that were transferred from your computer to your iPhone, the transfer process for these photos is a one way transfer process only - from your computer to your iPhone. If the photos that were stored on your computer were not included with your computer's backup, there are 3rd party apps available that provide for transferring these photos from your iPhone to your computer, but the original resolution of these photos will be lost. Photos transferred from your computer to your iPhone are optimized for viewing on your iPhone as part of the iTunes sync process, so the original resolution of these photos are reduced on your iPhone.
Such a 3rd party app also provides for transferring iTunes content from your iPhone to your computer that was not purchased from the iTunes store, but these apps are not supported by Apple.
If you are syncing contact info with a supported application on your computer and you did not include this data with your computer's backup, before syncing contact info with the supported application on your computer, enter one unique contact in the supported application on your computer. Make this contact up if needed, which can be deleted later. This will provide a merge prompt when syncing contact info, which you want to select. The same applies to syncing calendar events if you have Outlook 2003 or 2007 available and you are syncing calendar events with Outlook on your computer.

  • Can I make one iphoto library from two time machine back-ups?

    Hi
I have recently purchased a new Mac Book. I previously had two MacBooks, which I backed up with time machine onto two separate external hard drives.
I did a straight transfer of all data from one of these time time machine back-ups to my new laptop. I'd like to migrate select data from the second time machine back-up to my new Mac Book, and I'd like to start by transferring photos.
My laptop has an iphoto library, so I would like to know if I can import select photos from this second time machine back-up, and how do I do that?
    many thanks
    Linda

First you need to restore the second Library from the back up. You need to restore the whole library, you can't just gather bits of it, I'm afraid.
Once that's done you have two Libraries. The easiest way to do what you want is to merge the Libraries with the paid version ($20) of  iPhoto Library Manager This can be set to avoid duplicates. See the Help on it for more.
This is the only way that will get all the versions and all the metadata.
Other than that you'll need to export from one Library and import to the other.
    Regards
    TD

  • Can iTunes, song files, and library all reside on an external drive?

I loaded iTunes and also all of my music and audiobook folders onto an external drive. There are no iTunes files or song files on my local drive. However, when I try to populate iTunes by importing the music and audio folders iTunes insists on creating a library, with copies of all audio files, on my local drive. There is not enough room on my local drive to accommodate my entire music collection but there is plenty of room on the external drive. How can I persuade iTunes to create my library on my external drive? I’ve tried importing the folders manually and also by using PodPlus but the result is always the same – I receive a message from iTunes stating that there is not enough room for all the files. Any help or alternative suggestions would be very greatly appreciated. Thanks.

David, welcome to discussions! You may find this link from MacMuse helpful on how to move iTunes to a different drive, either internal or external. I used this information to move my music to an EHD on my old PC where it worked just fine. One trick, you must always boot up the EHD prior to opening iTunes or iTunes will revert the location of the iTunes music folder back to the main drive & you will have a bunch of dead links to your song files. Post back if you have any questions.
    Oops, forgot the link!

  • How can I make a second copy so I can make some changes, but lose the original document?

How can I make a copy of my new pdf convert to word document without losing the original document?

    Hi mariponce,
Is it the Word document that you want to make a copy of, or the PDF? In either case, you can choose File > Save As (in the appropriate application), and give the file a new name. For example, if you have a file named "HappyTimes.docx," you could choose File > Save As, and name the file "HappyTimes2.docx." Then, you'll have two Word files, and you can edit one and leave the other intact.
    Best,

  • How can I make the second internal drive bootable drive bootable for trouble shooting?

I suspect that a newly installed SSD boot drive may be causing instability in my new 2012 Mac Mini Server. The logic board and RAM have been replaced and boot drive wiped and partitioned and 10.10.2 reinstalled. I'd like to make the second drive bootable in order to take the SSD boot drive out of the equation.
Could some please describe the correct method for making the second internal drive bootable.
    Thanks.

A quick addendum: your Mac will have a default boot drive set, and if not then it will choose the first one it identifies on the disk (usually the first partition on the first disk, followed by subsequent partitions on this disk, and then moving to the second identified disk, etc.). As a result, if you have to hold Option to select your second boot drive, the next time you restart, your Mac will boot back to the first drive. To make the second boot drive the default one, you will need to select it in the Startup Disk system preferences. This will update the hardware to use this as the default boot drive.

  • Can't access a second library on a Time Capsule

    Okay,
so I set up a second iPhoto library using my MacBook & saved it on my Time Capsule. All is working okay.
However, I have tried accessing this library using my Girlfriends MacBook but am having no joy. I have tried holding down the option / alt button on opening iPhoto & chosen to open with a different library. Unfortunately, when I do this I can't see any of the data on the Time Capsule or any folders to select to open from. When I open the Time Capsule in Finder I can see everything no problem though!
As always, any advice would be great!
    Thanks in advance........

Sorry for the questions.....trying to understand
Can you tell us what steps you are taking now to access the Time Capsule hard drive?
    What happens after each step?

  • Can I make my iphoto library a screensaver that rotates repeatedly selecting randomly

I understand how to make one or more pictures my desktop picture.  But what I would like to do is have the pictures in my IPhoto library selected randomly be a screensaver that rotates across the screen when I am not using my computer.  How can I do that?

The available options for SceenSavers are found in the Desktop and Screen Savers Peference Pane. Yes the iPhoto Library is available for use by screensavers, but what exactly is done with them is a matter for the Screensaver options there.

  • How Can I Make My Music Library Portable ?

    Hello all,
My life is complicated. For the next several months I will be living at different places and using other people's pcs since I cannot carry mine with me to each place. Lets assume that I can download iTunes on each of these PCs and that their owners don't own ipods !!!
My music library currently exists on an external hard drive in an enclosure. So thats portable. But the question is will iTunes recognize my music on different computers ? And of course I want to be able to add to my library at each dwelling.
A related question is can I charge my iPod on different computers ? I don't have the AC charger.
thanks in advance for help and comments !!!

  • Can I make a second account on my iPod touch ?

A few years ago I bought my first iPod touch. I didn't have an email address at the time , so when I was setting up my account I just typed in a random name , for example [email protected]
So basically my account is made with a non existent email. (I can't sign into it because its not real)
After putting over €90 into my ipod I came across a problem. When I try to purchase something on my ipod it tells me to answer my security q's , the problem is I don't know them and I can't get a verification code sent to my email as it is a fake. So now I can't buy anything.
I was wondering if I could make a new account with my new (real) email address for the same ipod ?
I don't want to lose all my songs either.
