Can iTunes Match retrieve music from a broken computer?

My MacBook broke with all of my music still on it, so now I'm using my dad's old one.  If I buy iTunes Match will it be able to retrieve ALL of my music from the broken computer or will it only play what's on the computer that you activated iTunes Match with?

If the computer is dead and you didn't have Match while it was active then the only place the files were located are on the dead computer which is now history.  Match doesn't rescue files. It stores them when you transfer them from a working computer, but even then it isn't a substitute for a real backup.
For iTunes purchases:
Downloading (using iOS or computer) past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519 - enabled with iTunes 10.3 and newer; not available in all countries; apps, books (not audiobooks), music, t.v. shows, and movies (some - not all studios have permitted this). Movies currently available in the USA only. Downloading previously purchased movies and TV shows requires iTunes 10.6 or later.  Discontinued items not available. For items not included in the iCloud list (e.g., ringtones), or locations or computer systems where iCloud is not (yet?) available, you only get one download per fee paid.  Apple notes it is your responsibility to back up your purchases.
Select the store on the left side of iTunes.
Click on Purchased on the right side under Quick Links.
You can re-download your available previous purchases.

  • ITunes match remove music from device after period of time?

    Hi
I've been having a problem with iTunes match where it seems to remove copies of my music from my iOS devices (iPhone 4s and iPad 2) every so often (seems to be about every 90 days). I've noticed though that any songs I bought off iTunes on the device or have downloaded from the purchased section off iTunes are not deleted. Has anyone else experienced this and is there a way to turn it off so files are kept?
    Thanks :)

If that is on, I highly recommend looking at th KB article: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4054
    Specifically:
Make sure iTunes Match is turned on.
Please see this article for information about turning on or adding a computer or device to iTunes Match.
If iTunes Match is already enabled on your computer or device, try turning iTunes Match off and then on again.
On your Computer choose Store > Turn Off iTunes Match, then Store > Turn On iTunes Match.
On your iOS device tap Settings > Music > iTunes Match Off, then Settings > Music > iTunes Match On.
And sadly, you apparently can delete a song from Match from your phone.
I am sorry, but no, you can't. If that were true, you would no longer see the song in your music library on your computer, and it would most likely be gone forever. The only way to remove an item from iTunes Match:
To delete an item from iCloud in iTunes
From a computer with iTunes Match enabled, open iTunes 10.5.1 or later on your computer. You can download the latest version of iTunes here.
Click Music on the left side of iTunes.
Select the item you would like to delete. Right-click the item and then choose Delete.
You will be asked to confirm this action.
If the item you want to delete exists in iTunes on your computer as well as in iCloud, click the checkbox to also delete the item from iCloud.
Match is a train wreck. They need to make it work simply and intuitively.
I don't disagree with you on this.

  • Can iTunes Match download files from a crashed time capsule retroactively

Ok, so I'm a devoted itunes / apple user.  I had my time capsule for 2+ years with no issue, but it recently died and I had to get a new one.  Unfortunately, I had my iTunes library pull from the time capsule instead of my laptop hard drive and now a lot of my music is lost.  I can get anything that I had originally purchased via iTunes with iCloud download, but anything burned / ripped to the library is lost.
The track names, album names, etc. are still listed in itunes when I open it, but it cannot access the folder to pull the audio.  My question, is there a way to access these files since they are in my library without having to hunt all of these down and ripping them again?  If I were to purchase iTunes Match, would it download these files so that I could have them without doing the hunting and ripping?

    Hi,
    No.
If you have no back up you will need to re-rip them. You cannot use match to retrieve music that is not on your computer or external hard drive.
Match can only scan the music that is in your library.

  • HT4914 Will iTunes Match upload music from my iPhone?

    Thanks!

No, you can only subscribe to iTunes Match and upload music to it from a computer's iTunes - turning 'on' iTunes Match on a phone will, I think, remove your current music from it

  • HT4914 Can iTunes Match play streaming from my phone instead of having to download anything I want to play?

I have 1 mac and an iPhone4.  If I can not stream my iTunes Match music from my phone, what advantages does this $25 purchase have over the Free Google Play service?    I'm interested in whichever option can play the most music on demand without taking up space on my phone.

    Hi CD Hedley,
Once you have subscribed to Match and let it set up, then just follow these directions:
iTunes Match on iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

  • HT4914 ITunes Match new music from CDs

When importing music from a CD that is recognized by iTunes, does it still need to be ripped, or does iTunes immediately associate the AAC file to your account, preventing the need to upload?

iTunes Match operates according to the tracks in your library.  You need to rip the CD to get the tracks into your library in the first place.

  • Software to retrieve music from iPod to computer

Hello. I have one new iPod (photo version) which is working properly. I also have an older model, which is mostly not working, though once in a while, I try again and it seems to sputter and lets me recharge and then dies again.
I have lost my WHOLE iTunes (another problem, not trying to address this anymore), and since I have about 50% of my music on these two iPods, I would like to find out about the rescue software I have heard about, which enables one to retrieve the music FROM the iPod, back to my Mac desktop. If there is any other solution, I am all ears, but mainly I am looking to know where and how I can get the software to rescue my music from the iPod.
Hope this is clear! Many thanks in advance for your help!
    Amy

    Amy
Do a Google search for ripping music from an IPOD. I had to do it once when my Rev A Imac was returned with multiple failures. The music was on my Ipod and I wanted it back on my new rev B Imac. Worked out just fine!
As long as you own the cd, and it is not purchased d/l music...you have the right under the fair use act, to copy FOR YOUR OWN PERSONAL USE! I do not believe this would violate any Apple Rules either, but check to make sure!

  • Can't manually manage music from my new computer :/

My previous laptop crashed recently, so I was unable to do any kind of deauthorization or anything.  I can't manually manage my music, now, without erasing my entire library on my phone.  Is there any way around this? Or do I just bite the bullet and watch all of my money disappear?

" I can't manually manage my music, now, without erasing my entire library on my phone. "
    Correct.
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer.  Use your backup copy to put everything on your new computer.
If for some reason you have failed to backup your computer, not good,  then transfer your itunes purchases to your new computer from your iphone.  File>Devices>Transfer Purchases

  • My old computer has broken and I had not backed up my Itunes. I now have the hard drive from my old computer but cannot transfer the music. How can I transfer the music from my old hard drive to the new laptop?

My old computer has broken and I had not backed up my Itunes. I now have the hard drive from my old computer (windows 7) but cannot transfer the music. How can I transfer the music from my old hard drive to the new laptop (windows 8)?

Copy the entire iTunes folder from \Users\<User>\Music on the old drive into your music folder on the new computer.
Or see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

  • Why can I only delete music from my phone (with itunes match) when "show all music" is selected

This is pretty messed up... I can't delete any music from my phone unless I have the "show all music" command turned on.  This is the complete opposite from how it should be.  Please get it together, Apple!

Thanks for your reply.  I mean that only when all of my music in the cloud is shown on my phone can I delete the music stored on my phone.  I should be able to delete music that is stored on my phone when I can view ONLY the music that is taking up the phone's memory.

    Hi There
You can only transfer purchased music from your iPod to iTunes using iTunes. However there are third party utilities that you can use to retrieve your music, just do a google search or have a look on http://www.versiontracker.com
    Hope this helps
