Can iTunes PDF podcasts automatically import to iBooks?

I subscribe to a podcast that produces PDF and ePub documents. Is there a way to have those automatically sent to iBooks without me having to do anything? For instance, when the podcast comes out it would automatically show up in my iBooks app. Is that even possible? Does iTunes already do that? Any help is appreciated!

Well they show up a lot sooner through the RSS feed than they did on the website. At least they used to. When I first downloaded the app I was getting them weeks before they showed up online. But I think they have started putting them online the same time they released them through the RSS feed. I guess that does seem odd now haha I get what you're saying! But yeah it doesn't make sense for me to use the app now since it doesn't get them to me any faster.

I'm currently building a site using Drupal that is basically a huge book database and book review site. In order to acquire basic information about certain books I'm using an Amazon module that automatically pulls information into my Drupal database (such as author name, page count, publication date, etc.) based on any ASIN (Amazon Standard Identification Number) I enter. It's a pretty nice arrangement. Also, people can click on a link that leads them to the item on Amazon so that they can purchase it and I can collect a puny affiliate commission. Yay Internet!
But I'd like to use Muse and Business Catalyst instead. I was able to create a Web App version of my database but I can't figure out how to 1) automatically import based on ASIN and 2) automatically link each book record in the database to its page on Amazon. Honestly, if I could just get the info into the database alone I'd be happy.
I'm afraid that Adobe would have to create some sort of connection on their end that interfaces with the Amazon API - and therefore there is no way to create such a website now using Muse. But, of course, I don't know everything so I ask you all: is there a way this can happen now?

To do stuff like that will always need custom coding and things like API work. You will never be able to use Muse for that, its a basic site design tool that can hook up to BC modules. You will need to use coding software and have custom API work done for things like this.

Can iTunes get podcasts at a specified time?

Hi,
I have iTunes set to check for podcasts daily, which is OK, but what it really means is check for podcasts 24 hours after the last check.
I've been wondering this for a while. Is there a way of talking iTunes into only checking for podcasts at a particular time each day, say 3 AM, and only this time?
ie. The next check is 3 AM the next day, and not 24 hours since it was last checked?

It works with iCal application and be able to send the message as scheduled.
Also, I need to let my Macintosh computer remember the correct outgoing server and port.
If it fails to send, it will remain prompted by alart dialog box (^^;).

I love the feature of my ipod touch playing back pocasts at double speed. Anyway to do this when I listen to them thru itunes on my imac?

Actually, I have the same problem...only moreso.
When I'm streaming from another computer, my songs frequently start double-playing without my doing ANYTHING at all. Right now, The Skeleton Killers' "Despair" is doubling up--that's twice the dirge--and I wasn't even touching the computer when it started.
Oh, goodie! One of the streams has finished and the next song, George Michael's "Outside", has begun, now running concurrently with the last minute of "Despair". I can't tell you how poorly these songs go together.
The problem started with 7.0 and continues with 7.0.1

Automatic importing

How can I stop the automatic importing and playing of a music file?
I download legal music from several places besides the Apple music store, and I always have this very annoying problem. As soon as a song finishes downloading to my selected download folder, it is automatically imported to iTunes and it STARTS PLAYING!!! This is really annoying when I am doing something else because iTunes always jumps to the front of whatever application I am working with and forces me to stop my multi-tasking, and push stop on the iTunes player. VERY annoying if I am downloading an entire album because I have to do it for twelves songs in a row.
HOW do I turn this off? I looked in my iTunes preferences but I couldn't find the option.

What software are you using to download music besides iTunes? Aquisition and Xfactor both have settings to songs after they've finished downloading.
Or if you're downloading using your web browser, your browser may have iTunes setup as a "helper application", so that it opens the song file after it's downloaded.

Can iTunes play 5.1 audio on a Mac (not AppleTV)?

My Macbook, like many other Macs, has a digital audio port that doubles as a stereo mini-jack for headphones. I'm interested in importing videos into iTunes with 5.1 sound and playing them with iTunes, with the audio going out the mini-jack to a toslink adapter to my surround-decoding receiver. Can iTunes on a Macbook import and playback 5.1 surround content or will it get converted to stereo in the import?

That may work for the dual disc formats. Although I question the point of a video iPod that won't import video. A CD is copywritten material and it will import.
So, for an album that is only in the DVD format like BNL "Are Me Deluxe Edition" there is no way to get it into iTunes and eventually my iPod. iTunes even sells the album in a standard format. Are you saying that I need to buy it a second time for the iPod/iTunes?

Help: Playlist can't play Podcast

I just realize that after i Updated and using Nike+ my Nano playlist (both On-the-go and manual playlist) can't play podcasts automatically.
It appears in the list, but it won't be chosen automatically.
i.e. if there are 10 songs and 3 podcasts, and I choose play from the playlist title it will show only 10 tracks.
if I forcely chose one of the podcast, the tracks will become 11, teh 2 other podcasts will not be chosen automatically.
My ipod setting is always Shuffle Songs

Agreed, I do roughly the same thing, and this is incredibly annoying. I was considering the Nike gear, so I updated mine... but I usually play some of my podcasts by scrolling through the album list and then just hitting play to shuffle them. Whether or not to include podcasts in shuffle should be a global setting, or at least set per podcast, rather than per episode.
Frustrating. I think I'll roll back, and forego the Nike gear for now.

I think figured out what is going on here... If you have set your Windows OS time manually, Apple iTunes will not honor the time you set in Windows XP...
In my case, I had not applied the Windows update that changes the Daylight savings rules. No big deal I thought... I can easily correct the time manually. Well... iTunes will not like it if you do that. You have to have your daylight savings rules set correctly on the PC. Microsoft has a free program called TZEdit that will let you adjust the DST boundaries.
Once I set the rules correctly and then set my time keeping back to "Automatic" it fixed it. Hope this helps...

You can do it, though the result isn't ideal. Import your episode, then select it in the Music list and hit command-i to bring up the info panel:

With iPhoto every new photo was automatically imported and saved on my local disk (with "full resolution" that's what I only need). In the new photo app I have still my photo stream and when I move a photo (drag and drop from the photo stream) to a new album it indicates a (plus). My understanding is that the photo is now copied to my local disk. But when I deleted the photo in the photo stream it was also deleted in the album !?
If that is the case I can use the photo stream only until I reach the max of 1.000 photos, then I have to delete photos and I will have no copy left.
How can I "physically" copy a photo of the photo stream to my local disk? I just want to "transfer" all pictures taken with Ipads, Iphones to my central storage on the Mac. Please don't propose to connect it via iTunes (cable) to the Mac.
Any other suggestions?

The amazing device cannot do it because no amazing developer has written an app for it. There is some interest, others have asked, but i have a hunch that the market is fairly limited, and no developer has jumped at the chance just yet.
Any sort of tethered approach means try to feed the material to the pad thru the cck. Which means the app would have to use the allowed/existing cck pathway in a manner that does not violate the sandbox rules. That may be the problem.

How do I keep itunes from automatically importing mp3's from other sources

I merge multiple files into single mp3 files. I used to be able to do this and add them to a folder to add to iTunes at a later point, at my leisure. Now, when I merge these into mp3 files, they are automatically being added to iTunes and it is driving me nuts. I use either internet explorer or google chrome. I have since deleted chrome as this problem started soon after I installed chrome. However, it is still automatically importing these files. I want to add them, but at a later point, not automatically. Any ideas on how I can make this stop?

Hmmm ... the only the possibility I can think of is that:
something is causing Windows to open the mp3 files as soon as they are created, and
iTunes is set as the default program for mp3 files
This would result on the behavior you are observing, though I'm not sure what the "something" would be. It may be worth trying this:
In Windows Explorer, select any mp3 file
right-click, select Open with and then Choose default program
Is iTunes selected here, like this?
If so, try changing the default to Windows Media Player, make sure the "Always use the selected program ..." box is checked, and click OK.
Now try your mp3 joining process again - when it finishes, does the mp3 file now open in Media Player rather than being added to iTunes? Even if so, this doesn't really solve the problem as I would expect the mp3 joiner program to just create the mp3 file and not subsequently try and open it ... however, this might give an indication whether this a direction to go in (or not).

How do i stop itunes from automatically importing playlists

Hate the new 10.4.0.80 version of iTunes. I keep an M3u playlist for each of my 1000's of albums. Recent version is the first version that imports all these playlists when i "add a folder". Then you have no way of managing all these new playlists that automatically get added. Yes I can delete them or move them to a folder - but I have to select each list one at a time to do that and I dont have the patience to do this over a thousand times. And then if i add the folder again, because itunes doesn't automatically add new music - all the playlists come back like a bad rash
Reason enough for me to abandon iTunes, which means I don't really need an iPhone and iPad instead of an Andriod.
Horrible experience. How do I turn off this feature or otherwise stop iTunes from doing this?

1) In a Finder window highlight a file of the kind you want to change the application to open that kind of file.
2) While that file is highlighted, select File > Get Info or press command (apple or propeller icon) + i to get a file information window.
3) In the lower part of the info window there is an "open with" menu with a list of applications.
4) If your application is already in the box then it is the default application for opening that kind of file and you don't need to do anything more. Close the get info window.
5) If the application showing in the menu is not the one with which you wish to open the file then select a new application. If your application does not appear there then select the "other..." and track down the application (usually in the Applications folder at the main level of the computer).
6) If you wish to change all files of this type to open with this application in future, make sure the "change all" button is selected.
7) Close the get info window.

You will need to connect your iPad to your computer's iTunes and do File > Devices > Transfer Purchases to copy them over to your computer (that will copy PDFs and epubs that are in the iBooks app, not just actual ibooks), and you can then sync them to your iPhone. Or you might be able to open each PDF in iBooks on your iPad and use the share icon to email them to yourself and then use 'open in' in the Mail app on your iPhone to copy them to its iBooks app (if the PDF is protected then you may not get the email option via the share icon).
The Settings > iBooks > Sync Collections setting doesn't copy items between devices, it just means that it a bookor PDF is on both devices and you move it into a collection on one device then it will be moved into the same collection on the other device

For the missing Artists on your iPod, make sure their tracks in iTunes are not marked as "Part of a compilation" in iTunes. You can do this by highlighting the track, right->clicking on them and choosing "Get Info" from the shortcut menu. When the window pops up, head over to the Info tab and make sure there is NO tick mark next to this option in the lower right hand corner. Lastly, sync the updated changes to your iPod.
