Can itunes playback be paused when another application (such as Quicktime) plays audio?

I listen to music using iTunes all the time on my Mac. However I am constantly having to listen to snippits of audio from recordings that I have made, and I would ideally like to briefly pause iTunes during playback.
Is there a way to automatically cause iTunes to pause its playback when another application generates audio output? When you make a call on Skype this seems happens, and so I just want to replicate this functionality on other applications that can play back audio files.
PS: I know I can simply go to iTunes and pause it, but hey, this is all about finding really easy ways to do things you do a lot and it's annoying (and distracting) to have to do all those extra keystrokes.

Hate to say it but its still a problem with iTunes although better with 7.0.1.... at least on the Win side of things.

It sounds like your iTunes playback is stopping when you switch to another program. I want to recommend starting iTunes in Safe Mode, and see if the symptoms persist.

To start up into Safe Mode (to Safe Boot), follow these steps.
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key.
The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple logo and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
After the logo appears, you should see a progress bar during startup. This indicates that your computer is performing a directory check as part of Safe Mode.
To leave Safe Mode, restart your computer without holding any keys during startup.

On Safari, ipad connects to the internet. But when in applications such as Keynote, I try to e-mail presentattion it doesnt work.

I am a teacher and have my own iPad with a data plan. We also have a router in teh classroom for wifi, and it has a very strong signal. On Safari, the ipads can connect to the internet. But when in applications such as Keynote and HTML Egg, I try to e-mail presentat. or post website to web, it doesnt work. I tried re-setting the proxies and the router, no luck. Please Help! I am a teacher and want my students to be able to post their websites on to the web, and e-mail themselves and their parents their Keynote Presentations.

Try this. Turn your iPad Off. Then disconnect the power going to the router for 30 seconds or longer. Then replug the power to the router (allow it to initialize) and turn On the iPad. Hopefully everything will connect. If not, see below.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

Can't select items on desktop via finder window when another application opens that finder window

When another program (like premier pro, or gmail with chrome) opens a finder window (in order to import files, or make attachments), I am unable to select items on my desktop.
My workaround is to open an independent finder window, add a tag to the file or folder i want to use, then go back to the 'import' window in premier pro, or the attachment window in gmail in chrome, and select the relevant tag in the lefthand column, then select the file or folder in the righthand column. This seems slow and frustrating and unnecessary.
Is there a really obvious thing I'm missing? Please be merciful, Apple Support Community...

Hi Sue, if you can navigate in Finder do this:
navigate to yourhome/library/preferences and trash these two files:
com.apple.finder.plist
com.apple.sidebarlists.plist (if this exists in 10.2 - not sure)
(You will have to reset a few finder prefs the way you like them.)
Then log out and back in again. Or restart.

How to invoke an application when another applications is started

    Good day. I am a newbie to AppleScript and writing down this seeking your kind help here.
Making my question detail here,
Applcation 1 : Consider this to be some thing kind of server stuff which is running.
Application 2: Consider this to be an application like Automator or any other automation tool for example Sikuli or Squish
My actual scenario is that, When Application 1- is still running and upon its completion I want to instruct to another application to start.
Suppose consider that Application 1 is running and when it is finished I want to invoke another application via apple script.
So here, I want both the scripts from you people that can do this.

1. Invoke Application 1 (via Applescript itself) let it run for few minutes(as it is server kind of stuff, i want it to run) when this is complete then I want to invoke the application 2
2. I am manually invoking the application 1 and I am going away, as it will run for few minutes then on Application completes its job I want Application 2 to be Invoked.

Does Appliction 1 quit by itself when it's done? If so a simple loop should do the trick - periodically check to see if the app is still running:

Can't drag a photo to another application in Photos now

Among the MANY problems and loses of functionality when going from iPhoto to Photos is the inability to drag a photo to another application. It appears that I must export the photo to the desktop and then drag to the other application. This involves several additional steps and is much less efficient than in iPhoto. If I am only moving on photo, it is not as big of a deal, but when I have to export many photos it wastes a lot of time.
Am I missing something?

IPod can't be restored due to another application

Here's the scoop....I have a iPod Photo 40GB and I have the latest iTunes 7.0 installed on my computer. Whenever I plug my iPod into my computer iTunes will detect the iPod and show the summery in the main window but when I try to restore the iPod it gives me the following error.
"The iPod "B's iPod" cannot be restored because it contains files that are in use by another application."
Any ideas on what I should do?
FYI, my iPod shows up as a P drive due to my network connections. Could this possibly have something to do with my Disk Management?

I used the MSCONFIG to troubleshoot this problem and I think I may have fixed it.

New app "Photos" can't edit a photo in another application

new app "Photos" doesn't allow user to edit a photo in another application. iPhoto allows me to edit a photo in Photoshop.

Can we copy a region to another application?

I have a region which contains a lot of items and I want it to be also in another application....
Is there any way to copy it?

The pre condition to any kind of copying is that the source and target application shares the same workspace, or the same workspace ID.
AFAIK, you can’t directly copy a region from one application to another, nor to export it as a component. However, you can copy a region between two pages on the same application, and you can export a sing page, or copy it between applications. Hence, the only solution I can think of, to your situation, is to export the source page containing your region; Import the page into your target application, copy the region from the new page into your existing page, and delete the newly imported page. It seems like a lot of work, but for a complex region, it can be worth it.

ITunes 9.0 pausing when skipping a song off of a USB external drive

This is not random and is very much related to iTunes 9.0, because it didn't exist with 8.0. Or well, I could normally skip through 3-4 songs off the external HDD before a similar short pause, and I just always figured it was a normal buffer issue of the USB bus and its drivers. Besides, it was shorter than what I'm putting up with right now.
It could also have something to do with the following things:
(1) the Iomega Prestige Portable drive (2)is attached to two ports of the hub in my HP LP2475W display, and (3)the hub also has the logitech cordless desktop for mac receiver hooked to it, and the hub itself is attached to the other one of the MacBook's two USB ports. The other one has my old LaCie Porsche now used for Time Machine backups. However, that should be irrelevant in this equation, while the only key factor would be iTunes 9.0 itself, as I've had it setup like this, and sometimes hooked up things like a USB scanner, point&shoot digicam, even my Razr on the monitor's usb hub while playing iTunes all summer long with no problems.
Well, it could be also have something to do with Leopard and iTunes, and Snow Leopard upgrade might resolve this. I'm still waiting for Apple Up-To-Date to resolve it, as I bought my computer from an authorized retailer, so I had to go through the print and mail hoop and loop crapola for some reason.
Secondly, I'm estimating there are plenty of Mac users, especially those with a laptop, who keep their music collection on an external drive, which in many cases probably happens to be a USB one. So, this probably affects a whole lot of users.
Thirdly, if the Windows 7 version is affected with the same behaviour plus one degree down south, meaning it is happening with the internal HDD as well*, this was something they forgot to test and after a few user complaints, they should release a patch. *As reported by a friend of mine using Windows 7 on a minilaptop.
I cannot stress enough how freaking annoying that pause/lag all of a sudden is. Especially when you are doing something or actually working while you're listening and you press that skip button on your keyboard when the next song starts and you don't feel like listening that one but want the next one that the shuffle is playing. So, normally this move integrates seamlessly with my workflow, or just flow when I'm not actually working, and my eyes are reading the screen, left hand rests on the keyboard (iTunes-specific) skip button, while my right hand operates the mouse and ears do the sound registering bit so I know what song is on the iTunes plate, until I get to the next song I like. Now all of a sudden there's this annoying and irritating pause between every skip messing the s**t up of your flow. That's BS. And if you're browsing through the playlist looking for a certain song and then you double-click that it's the same thing as already described.

The same exact thing is happening to me (but I have Snow Leopard). My music is on a USB external hard drive (1TB MyBook) and with almost every song I try to skip, it hangs for upwards of 5 seconds. This is especially annoying because I shuffle my music quite often and I tend to skip over many songs before I find one I want to listen to; and, it happens both when the music is paused and playing.
This hanging has never happened to this extent before upgrading to iTunes 9.0. If there is not a fix to this how can I go about downgrading to iTunes 8.0?

ITunes playback skips, pauses and distorts

Recently I haven't been able to use my itunes for playback through my desktop because the songs pause and skip, and in some cases I get loud distortion or static. Previously it had been working fine for 18 months. I deleted the program and downloaded it afresh: the first song was OK but then the problem recurred. My operating system is XP. Can anybody suggest a solution?
Other programs on the computer are working normally although possibly a bit slower than they were. Are there viruses or other nasties which attack iTunes in particular?

Problem was with iTunes libary (xml) file and not Firefox. Once I rebuilt my library from scratch, iTunes no longer skipped.

HT204053 Can iTunes Match be associated with another Apple ID?

I have to Apple ID accounts (although I'm not sure how that happened). I've purchased iTunes Match with one account. Now I'd like to put everything under another existing account to make my life easier. When I try to turn on iTunes Match from that account, it just takes me to the subscribe page, where I would have to purchase it. How do I get iTunes Match switched--or added--to a different account name? I'm not about to purchase it again.

How can I run a script when an application quit??

Can it be done (drill into another application seamlessly from dashboard)

Is it possible to drill from a BI EE Dashboard report directly into another non-Oracle web based application? For instance, we move budget data at a summarized level into our data warehouse, which is available as a report in BI EE. If the user wants to see more granular detail, I'd like ot allow them to click a link and automatically log them into the web app by passign their ID and password in the url for the separate web application.
Note that their ID and Password for BI EE and the web application are identical.

How can configure the default page when the application startup?

I would like, when i published my application in weblogic, write the context root and automatically start my first page.
For examples, I have 3 pages in ADF project. The names are: a.jspx, b.jspx and c.jspx
When I publish I see in Jdeveloper:
The following URL context root(s) were defined and can be used as a starting point to test your application:
[02:15:30 PM] http://localhost:7101/myapplication-ViewController-context-root
but when I write this link in my browser I get an error (404 not found).
I try http://localhost:7101/myapplication-ViewController-context-root/faces/ but I get the same error.
I would like that a.jspx runs automatically when I write the context, is possible?
In adfc-config.xml I just use control-flow-role and in "From Activity ID" i wrote * and in control-flow-case in "To Activity ID" I wrote a.jspx but I think this need when I come to other pages where i do not use outcome and is not correct for the first time when I run the application, is it?.

When I deploy in and type http://localhost:7101/myapplication-ViewController-context-root/faces/ the application server change to http://localhost:7101/myapplication-ViewController-context-root/faces/?...
I don't know where is the mistake.
