Can iTunes read Two Libraries at once?

Hi,
I have a HP N40L MicroServer (I remote access from my iMac) that I want to use to serve media via iTunes to my Apple TV's. The unit has 4 HDD's. What I wanted to do was have Movies & Music on one drive, TV Shows on another and then allow back up to the spare drives. This means that I need iTunes to read two drives at once. I know that I can choose a Library but I want to select both - is this possible ?
My other option is to use Drivepool to expand the size of the drive by combining the individual HDD's (get arround Windows 2TB drive limitations) however it creates duplicate files for safety. This means my iTunes has duplicate entries.
Any ideas on this ?
Thanks

You could, for example, turn off the preference to copy files to the media folder, drag your movies to a different drive, then delete the current entries and reimport. Doug's scripts has one called Relocate Selected which can possibly make that easier to do. I've rolled my own for Windows.

  • How can i join two libraries from two different users

how can i join two libraries from two different users in the same computer?

I should add that you can turn on SHARING where each user can see the other user's library and play stuff out of it. But they can not import those tracks to their own library or put them into their own playlists or burn CDs of the shared library.
Also note, to do this you need to have the fast switching option enabled with the accounts so both can be running at the same time and both must have iTunes running at the same time.

  • How can I open two libraries at the same time on itunes?

Hey i need help on opening two libraries at the same time on itunes. I don't know if that is possible but need some advice if its possible. I already have several libaries but I need to compare labaries at times due to various users on my computer. Please help .

Not that I'm aware of. What exactly is that you want to achieve? There are tools for scanning media folders and adding any files not listed in the library, or deleting those that no longer exist. There are also ways to use one library for multiple users so that any tag update gets applied for everyone.

  • Can iTunes read across multiple drives?

    Hi all,
    I have a 2002 Quicksilver PowerMac with 1x 30Gb (Master) and 1x 80Gb (slave) installed.
I’ve put all my music onto the 80Gb but iTunes will only look at the music I have installed on the master drive. Can iTunes see music across multiple drives and make them all show as one within the iTunes window? As currently I can’t access them.
    I'm running OSX.4 Tiger, iTunes v.4.7.1
    Many thanks.

Does this also work in the opposite direction?  I have a startup disk that is full and I want to move my existing library onto a second physical disk in an attempt to free up space on the startup disk.
How do I then have itunes add new media to the itunes library on the startup disk instead of the now virtually full second physical disk?
Like One Brain Cell, I have been muddling this about in my head for weeks.

  • Can Itunes read library from ipod instead of HD?

Is it possible to have itunes library read from the ipod itself? I want to delete my 11gigs off my HD to save on space but still want to be able to use itunes to manage and search for songs and playlists as if they were still on my HD but using my Ipod. Thanks

You can delete songs from your iTunes/computer hard drive after transferring them to the iPod, and for this you need to set your iPod to manage the iPod content manually.
However, this is an extremely risky option because when (and not if) there comes a time to restore your iPod, which is a very common fix for iPod problems, then all the music would be erased. If you no longer have the music in iTunes (or any other back up), then all that music would be lost.
At the very least back up your music to either cd or dvd before deleting it, particularly any purchased music/videos, as this would have to be bought again if it were lost. See this about backing up media.
How to back up your media in iTunes.
However, I'm not sure what you mean by "search for songs". And there will be things you cannot do, like sync play counts/ratings etc back to iTunes.

This should enable you to read multiple channels. The only other option available is to use one fp open.vi, multiple Create Tag.vi's and multiple FP Tag Read.vi's.

  • Can you search two artists at once in itunes

I wanted to listen to two different artists and I know I can just make a playlist and that's that, but I was wondering if there was a way to search for both artists at once like perhaps if in the search bar i could type "dante; turtl"  and that would look for tracks that had either of those things instead of looking for tracks that had both of those things.

You can sort of do that with the Column browser in List View, Max.
Switch to List view. Now go "Edit > Column Browser > Show Column Browser". Make sure that one of the columns you have showing is "Artists".
In the Artists column, select one of the artists. Now hold down the Control Key and click a different artist to select that as well. The music showing for you now will just be the stuff by those two artists, and you can listen to the mixture of both.
For example, here's a "two artist mix" on my library:

  • Can I have two libraries on one iTunes program?

I have two different iPods - one a nano, one a video - and I'm trying to create a way to install on the video iPod its own separate songs without having it import all the original nano's songs from its library. SO FRUSTRATING.
Do I really have to import all 400 songs from my nano's library onto the video, and then go from there importing new songs for the video iPod? And why, when I installed the video iPod's iTunes CD, was a new iTunes application not created in order to keep the two different iPods' independent of one another?
Any assistance would be immensely appreciated.

First of all there can only be one iTUnes with one library on a user account in windows. There is afew programs that will create 2 librarys but you most likly will not need this.
You can create 2 user accounts on windows for each iPOd, but thats usually for 2 people using one PC that want there own separate iTUnes and music.
If both iPods are yours you will most likly want to set one ipod (Most Likly the nano) to "Auto update selected playlist" and select which playlist you want on that nano. to do this connect the nano, rightclick it in iTUnes, hit options and set it. then the video iPOd since its bigger in size you can leave it set on its default of "Auto update all songs".
Another note just so you know, it is possiable to connect 2 ipods at the same time, but HIGHLY recommened NOT TO DO THIS because it can confuse iTUnes and the ipod service running in the background of windows and cause you and iTUnes major headaches

  • ITunes 11 two libraries

I created a second library in iTunes 11 to hold my mp3 files.  How do I move songs from my original library to the new mp3 library?  Can I delete them from the original library once they are moved?

    1. Locate all the files you want to move. Hold down Option while opening iTunes and open the library that has the content that you want to move. Secondary-click on any item in the library and select Show in Finder. The file you selected will be revealed to you in Finder. All the files in this library should be nearby.
    2. Add those files into your other iTunes library. Hold down Option while opening iTunes and open the library that you want to add the files to. Go to File>Add to Library.... Select the files you want to add.
    3. Delete the original files.

  • Multi users on one computer for itunes, need two libraries

still trying to get an answer to this, cant seem to find a way of having two separate libraties for me and my girlfriend. we obviously have different tastes and need to use the same computer and therefore the same itunes and music library, surely there must be a way of being able to have different music on our individual ipods, has anyone got any knowledge of this?

    Hi there.
I had exactly the same issue with my music and my wife's.
What we did was created 2 playlists - one for me and one for my wife.
What you do then is make sure that when you plug each ipod in, you only update the playlists you have created.
i.e my playlist is called Dave's music. Plus in ipod, and have itunes only update Dave's music (and any other playlists/podcasts etc)
Your ipod will then only ever have the music you want on it, even if your library is heaving with music you don't want. (in my case huge swathes of Britney Spears)
    This should work for you.

  • Can I run two applications at once from two different computers?

    Good Evening,
I would like to use the cloud service. I have read over the FAQs and they were quite clear, however I did not seem to find something to the effect of what I need answered.
If I were to download the apps on a backup computer and my personal computer, can I run for example a photoshop application on one computer, while running an encore application on the other computer at the same time?
The FAQs state that I can pick and choose which apps I want on a computer. Will I be able to download a portion of the apps on my personal computer and the remaining on a backup computer, while being able to use a portion on computer and another portion on another computer at the same time?

You could be working in two different applications on two different computers, going back and forth between them.
You can install any of the applications that you wanted to use on either of the computers but still only on two computers overall.
    Hope that helps,
    -Dave

  • Can you merge two libraries from 2 users on one mac to create 1 library?

  • Can I Use Two Libraries On Two Different Computers?

I use a desktop and a laptop. Can I have a library with different music on both and add those songs at any time, without erasing either library? Sometimes when I'm on the go I download songs on my laptop and would like to add them to my IPOD Photo, but I am prompted to create a new library which would delete my desktop library.

    Hi,
only had my Ipod for a couple of weeks but think I can offer some help.
Ive got a PC (boo) with my main Itunes library, Ipod format for windows, I also have powerbook (yea) with another Itunes library. I sinc with the PC. When I connect to the Laptop it offers me the chance to link to that library and as you say if you say yes then it will wipe your Ipod and replace everything.
However if you say no the Ipod will still be recognised. Now go to Ipod settings (in itunes) and change for automaticly sinc to manage manualy. You will now be able to add individual songs to your ipod without affecting rest.

  • But can you have two libraries open at the same time?

I have a few libraries stored externally, that I don't acceess much as they have older images, and my main current library. I was wondering whether, with the new management scheme, it would recognize the external libraries as source images, linked to my main library, so that when I'm connected to the external drive, they appear in my main library, fully editable, but when the external is offline, they appear as linked offline previews.
In other words, will the other libraries be suitable as "other" source folders?

I don't know if it would quite work like that, but you could import all the projects from those other libraries, then use the new tools to move the master files back to those external drives. Then you would essentially have what you were looking for, which is one central library with some master images held offline in case you needed them later.
