Can Java start another App & return to Java after closing?

Can I launch another application from Java...
And, when that application ends, return to my java application?
If so, can someone give me a hint on how to do this.

Can't start GTK apps on Kdemod

Hi,
I'm very new to Arch, but I've managed to install some things I need so far. I did a FTP install and then installed x and kdemod, fixed screen resolution, installed nvidia driver, configured alsa. I think I want to stay on Arch, I really like it's speed and the package manager pacman.
Anyway I can't start GTK apps, currently I've Firefox, Seamonkey and Gparted installed but when I click on their shortcuts in K menu nothing happens, when I try to start in terminal I get
gparted
No protocol specified
(gparted:7468): Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display: :0.0
I have gtk2,glib2,gtkmm and kdemod-gtk-qt-engine installed.

Can't start GUI apps as Root.

If i am logged as root i can't start GUI apps like:
Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: No protocol specified
kate: cannot connect to X server :0.0
should i post xorg.conf?

It's not really a problem, but you can copy your .Xauthority to give the same rights.
It is not a problem, and in fact, using kdesu is probably the safest way to do it. Starting apps as root in X is risky.

1. Erase all content and setting in general setting
2. Reinstall Apps using ICloud backup service.

I usually do my research (extensively if I'm particularly annoyed) regarding any of my Apple questions, but I can't seem to find an answer to the following:
Let's say I'm working in a full screen app (e.g. - Safari) window/space and I bring up spotlight/dock/launchpad to initiate/open/start an app, how can I prevent Mavericks from automatically "pulling" me to the designated window where the app is loading? I would like to be able to continue working on whatever it is I'm working on while at the same time have my app of choice start up in the "background" without being brought to it while it's still starting up. I know I'm not the only person that finds this behavior annoying, as I've seen it phrased a number of ways, but this question in particular hasn't been addressed (that I can find).
A little info:
Early 2011 13" MBP
8gb RAM
500gb HDD
OSX 10.9.4
P.S. I've already tried the 'When switching to an application, switch to a Space with open windows for that application' within Mission Control settings. This does not yield the result I am searching for.

Apps downloaded via iTunes will be for iDevices only. They will not run on a computer.

App for accessing remote files on a mac that you can play in another app

Hey all,
Anyone know of an app that will allow me to access files stored on a mac connected to the same wifi that I can play the file through another app in the iPhone without the file being transferred to the phone?
For example, I want to be able to access a m4v stored on my mac over wifi, within the iPhone, to be played with a video player that I can send to a TV with the composite cable.
I found NetPortal, which works quite well, but you need to transfer the file to your iphone and even then, it wont open with many apps. I tried transferring a m4v file to my phone and it only gave me goodreader as an app to open the file with. I could simply transfer the file I want to access using my USB cable to my iPhone much faster.
Simply, I want to be able to stream movies from my Mac, through my iPhone to a TV and I am finding it hard to find Apps that allow such a thing.
Any suggestions?

I already have that setup at home. I want to be able to use this when I am on the road.
I already use StreamToMe and Airvideo, but sometimes the quality is quite bad, which is mainly cause by my low upload speed. So I am looking for higher quality alternatives. I carry around a macbook air a lot so I figured I could store lots of movies for on the road to be played on other's tvs when were taking it easy.
I am always so amused by responses on this forum. The solution is always to buy something.

You will have to uninstall all the creative cloud applications one by one.
Programs and features for Windows
and for Mac go to Applications --->utilities --->Adobe installers

App switcher not responding after closing an application

I'm running OS X 10.9.4 on my late 2012 MacBook Pro Retina and I am experiencing an odd issue where the App Switcher is not responding right after closing an application. It seems that some applications cause this issue more than others. For example: when I closed Numbers and then attempted to go to another application using the App Switcher, the App Switcher did not respond to my respond to my requests for at least 10 seconds. It's as if there is a library that is getting locked by the closing application that prevents the App Switcher from being launched.
Has anyone else experienced this issue? If so, is there a resolution to it?

You will need to build the application through the project explorer, set the the .rtexe to 'Run as startup', and then deploy it.

If that is still not working, you may want to consider:
1. Checking to make sure that you can establish a connection between your project and the myRIO. Right-click on your myRIO target in the project and select 'Connect'
2. Verifying that you can run your code interactively (i.e. run your RT code directly from the host computer)
3. Writing a very simple myRIO application that toggles a user LED. This will allow you to visually see whether or not the application is running.

Mail.app will not reopen after closing app

I am using a MacBook Pro with OS X 10.5.8 and Mail.app 3.6 (936). I have all current updates installed. My problem is that I will be using mail.app (configured as an IMAP account) all day and close the application without any issues, but if I reopen the application without fist restarting the computer Mail hangs and will not relaunch. This issue happens without fail. There are only two resolves that will allow me to relaunch mail.app: restart the computer or relaunch the Finder.
What can I do to resolve this issue?

Anyone one have any thoughts on this? The inability to relaunch Mail.app after closing (without relaunching the Finder or restarting the computer) happens every time without fail. All other applications work without incident.

Installed 1.7.0_40 and can't start any apps built previously.

I installed the u40 release today, and I use NetBeans 7.3 as my development environment. After I tried to build a couple of projects against the new release, and finding I couldn't run them from within NetBeans (java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: com.sun.glass.ui.win.WinApplication._invokeLater(Ljava/lang/Runnable;), I went back to u25 and I was able to build and run from within NetBeans. But then I went to try to run some previously built applications (built against u25) and they won't run at all. I'm thinking it might have something to do with the packaging, but I don't know, and I'm not even sure how to find out what the problem is.
This is critical, because in my company some users may update their version of java, and if they do, my applications will cease to work.
My projects are maven projects, and I use the zenjava javafx-maven-plugin to package the apps.

By changing my pom to point at the local jfxrt.jar file instead of the one that was in the com.oracle repository, I was able to build apps that I can run stand-alone and against older version of the java jre. But then I couldn't run inside of netbeans, so the link above gives information on how to fix that problem. It has to do with exec-maven-plugin omits adding the system-scope dependencies to the classpath. Adding the location of the jfxrt.jar file to the bootclasspath. Hopefully this will help others who are suddenly facing the same problem.

ITunes wants to start another app?

A while back I installed an iTunes helper app. I can't remember what it was but it was something to upload 'now playing info' to the web or something similar. To cut a long story short, it wasn't very good so I uninstalled it. However, every time I start iTunes, it tries to find it before it will start. To make matters worse, I mis-clicked the other day and it now opens an app within one of my VMWare virtual machines every time I start iTunes
It's driving me mad! Please could someone tell me where the link between iTunes and this app would be so I can sever it and preserve my sanity?

Just thought I'd let ya know I found the problem - in case anyone else has this issue here.
It was an issue with Digidesign & iTunes/Quicktime.
I needed to update a Core Audio Driver - so that things would be happy with the latest versions of iTunes & Quicktime.
I went to Digidesign's web site - over to the support section - then to the download section & found the latest Core Audio Driver for my system - installed the driver - rebooted - clicked on iTunes & life was good again.

How can Java trap closing DOS window

Hi all:
This pertains to Windows.
I have an application which needs to be shut down in a controlled fashion. Unfortunately I can't get my users to cooperate.
I have learned how to trap for Ctrl-C and do a controlled shut down.
I can't prevent them from closing the window the program runs in or the other ways to shut a program down from Windows.
Is there any way to trap for the user closing the appliation (either by clicking the X in the top right or by choosing Close-AltF4 from the pull down). I would like to trap for the event and do a controlled shut down of the application before Windows pulls the gound out from under it.
