Can KN3 play HDV clips

I am a Wintel user, looking to change to Mac. I'm seriously looking at the MBP. I recently bought a Sony HC1 HDV camcorder. I would like to take the HDV clips and embed them in a Keynote file for professional presentations. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Can't Play HDV 1080p24 Quicktime Movie - PLEASE HELP!

I have a self-contained Quicktime file that plays fine using the Quicktime application on my computer that has Final Cut Pro installed on it. However, when I move that Quicktime to my computer that does not have Final Cut Pro, it says I don't have the proper codec. (It plays the audio fine, but the video is just a black screen.)
Can I download this specific codec on my non-FCP computer so that I can play this file?
Here are the specifics on the Quicktime in question:
Format:
HDV 1080p24, 1440 x 1080 (1888 x 1062), Millions
16-bit Integer (Little Endian), Stereo, 48.000 kHz
And, if it helps at all, we footage was created with a Canon XL-H1 camera, imported into FCP, edited, and exported as a Quicktime file using current settings. And, the non-FCP computer does have Quicktime Pro installed.

The DVCPRO HD, HDV and ProRes codecs only comes with FCP. If your computer does not have FCP installed, it cannot view these quicktime files. It doesn't matter if it is a Mac or PC, without FCP installed, you cannot view these files.
If you need to view ProRes material, you can download the ProRes decoder (mac and windows compatible) for ProRes

If you have MXF files from a P2 camera and you need to view the footage on a computer without FCP, you can download P2CMS from Panasonic:

Or you need the other party to compress the footage into a format your computer can play, like H.264.

Can I play multiple clips (sequentially) in QuickTime?

For a sports event, I often shoot about 30 video clips, totaling an hour or so, pausing during timeouts etc. My camera is a HD Panasonic, shooting AVCHD onto a SD card. Is it possible to later put the SD card into my laptop and play the whole game? I have QuickTime Player 10.3. Right now I can File > Open > AVCHD, Select All; however QuickTime opens 30 different files to play. I would like to be able to easily play all 30 clips sequentially. Right now I use Faasoft Video Converter, which works well, but it's one more step. Thanks in advance for any help, Jeff

Use Automator to create an application or Service. It almost works for what you want to do, though you'll certainly notice the "seams" between movies as the Desktop flashes briefly after each clip.

Can't play (preview) clips in event browser. Spacebar, play button, etc. will not work.

I can't get any form of playback while accessing clips in the Events Browser. I'll highlite a clip, hit spacebar, and it refuses to play. I'll highlite a clip, hit the play button and still get nothing. The playhead sits there, whereas before I had no problem previewing clips in the events browser. I've tried to reset my preferences in FCPX, even downloaded a preference manager to trash corrupted files, but that still didn't do the trick.
Is there a bug in 10.0.8 FCPX for playback? Anybody else have this problem? Its rather frustrating when I'm dealing with a lot of clips. I don't want to drag each individual file down into the timeline for playback...

I've had this only a few times – all in earlier versions–and quitting/relaunching FCP cleared it up.
What about JKL? Does that work?

The blue indicator in system audio panel will appear for a second as I slide the bar for internal mic but then it disappears. Is there a fix?

This is the FCPX forum.
Sounds like the viewer is in wireframe mode or is alpha display mode. If this isn't the case you need to go to the Final Cut Studio forum and give more details.

Can I include movie clips be played in the LR4's Slideshow module?

Hi, I'am just starting to learn about LR's SlideShow module. I recently returned from a vacation in eastern Europe and want to create a slideshow of my best pictures and short movie clips. The slideshow is mostly still photography, but I also want to play a few of the clips shot in movie mode and play these clips inside the slideshow. Is this possible in LR4's Slideshow module?

No, unfortunately that is not possible in this version.

You may have to try deleting all the music from your phone (by going to Settings>General>Usage>Music, swipping All Music and tapping Delete), then sync it all back on with iTunes in order to fix this.

Long standing problem, much discussion on the forums. Typically it has to do with incompatibility of Microsoft Exchange email client. See the links on "More Like this" at right.
Two solutions:
One is to zip compress the file and send the attachment that way.

Tom is right. Codecs are shared software system-wide ("Core Video"). If you cannot find the option with any software (such as MPEG Streamclip), you won't find it in Compressor or FCPX either. The Quicktime ProRes codecs is part of the FCP menu > "Download Additional Content" you need to make after install FCPX (or Compressor.) These "pro video" codecs are part of all "ProApp" licenses for video related software from Apple (QT7Pro, Motion, Compressor, Final Cut, etc....) [you can also download them here: http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1396]
Most articles/tutorials you read by "long time" users are apt to assume the reader has been working with pro-video on Macs since the days of disk installs (like they have). In those days, the installation of those codecs wasn't even really an option (well, it was if you did a custom install - but who *didn't* install all available codecs??), it was automatically installed with the main software. Since the "App Store" venue... things have changed somewhat.

The player uses Flash video in the case of the ABC News, and QuickTime for the CNN Sports. There's a slight glitch when playing QuickTime in that you have to pause and play the video for it to start updating correctly. I can't easily tell what codec they're using, the video is save disabled, but I suspect you have a QuickTime that is recent enough to play the video.
For the ABC News clips, QuickTime shouldn't be involved at all. Make sure you haven't set QuickTime to play SWF content in your browser, because whether it's Sorenson Spark or On2 VP6 video, QuickTime won't cope with playing Flash movies that contain those.
Having said that, if the video is really FLV you might be able to play it using QuickTime by installing the Perian component (http://perian.org/). But I think that it would be much safer to just let Flash play Flash content.

Deinterlaced QT HDV clips (deinterlaced through the de-interlace box in the video-track properties) do not remain deinterlaced when played in Keynote 2.
BTW I have found deinterlacing QT HDV clips in FCP not to be fully satisfactory.
Any better solution for deinterlacing finished HDV clips (1080i50) available?

To view HDV on an external monitor you are going to need to purchase a capture card, like the ones Decklink or AJA offer. They will both play out HDV in real time. The catch is that you cannot view this on a regular TV or NTSC monitor. Since this is HD, an HD monitor will be needed.
HDV cannot be played out of FCP via Firewire because it's Long GOP structure is too taxing on your processors to spare the system resources needed to drive an external monitor.
The best option you have is the Matrox MXO...$1000.
