Can Lion reinstall just iCal?

I tried to restart my computer with command R and got the install option.
I picked my hard drive and realized that the "Customize" button is greyed out. Why is this?
I want to just install iCal as I am having some error prompts and no one has replied yet
Here is the other thread
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3800593
Is there a way I can just reinstall iCal?
Thanks.

Thanks but just out of interest as this is new to me especially an install of a version that is not a clean install.
Will the install but install a replacement app retaining my current contacts and ical calendars?
Good to know
Your settings and data should all be untouched when you reinstall, but as I say, all you need is a power outage or something unexpexted to occur and you may lose all your data, so having a backup is essential, even if it takes a bit of time it is invaluable insurance 'just in case'.
Good Luck

  • How can I reinstall just iCal?

I need to delete & reinstall iCal. I've lost all of my calander information as far as I can see & just need to start over. How can I do this? I had Tiger (10.4) installed, then installed the Leopard upgrade. Then I needed to reinstall the Tiger OS for work. So now I have Mac OS X 10.4.11 with 2 different system backups & all I want is for my iCal to work! If anyone can help me in getting my information from those backups that would be great, too. I've managed to get most of the music, keychains, but not documents.

An updater may not be replacing an entire application, so if you need to replace an application then you need to first get it from the installer DVD from which it came originally. Then use the updater to assure that it is the current version. You may not need to use the combo updater if the application hasn't changed any, but you can't know that positively, so use the updater. It cannot harm anything.

  • Can I restore just iCal from a previous Time Machine version ? I have lost all my calendar data trying to move to icloud

    Hi There
I hope someone can help me. I have lots of calendars on my mac that I used to use for work and home. A friend suggested moving them to icloud to then sync them with my iphone as he does. It looked like a great option so we tried it. However when I set up icloud on ical - it perpetually came up with 'moving calendars to server account' and I couldn't do anything. It's been ten days - so we've just unchecked the icloud box for ical - and everything is now gone !
    My question is twofold
    1) Can I restore just iCal itself from Time Machine ?
    2) What can I do to prevent this happening and successfully move over to icloud with my calendars ?
    Thanks !!

Because of the horrible battery life with Mountain Lion (10.8.2)
I am unaware of any battery life problem with Mountain Lion. There are many problems with incompatible 3rd party software, but that is a different problem.
I wrote a little diagnostic program to help show what might be causing these problems. Download EtreCheck from http://www.etresoft.com/download/EtreCheck.zip, run it, and paste the results here.
Will the ML Time Machine be backwards compatiable with Lion?
No. 3rd party application may be fine. Most Apple applications and data will not work.
Disclaimer: Although EtreCheck is free, there are other links on my site that could give me some form of compensation, financial or otherwise.

  • Final Cut 6, can I reinstall just Boris

Yes, I'm still running Final Cut 6 and yes it's been working perfectly up till now.
    Running OS 10.6.8
Recently I've been having problems using Boris Calligraphy inside Final Cut, Once I create the title and try to apply it to my timeline, the whole program shuts down
I'm thinking I want to reinstall Boris but going thru my install disks, I didn't see (even in the Extras folder) a separate option for Boris. I didn't want to go all through the install (OK guess that makes me lazy) and I would rather not reinstall the entire program
If I keep going thru the install process will there be a step to reinstall just Boris?
    Thanks in advance

Before starting the reinstallation process, you might want to try trashing your FCP Preferences first to see if that helps solve the wonky behavior. (Digital Rebellion's free Preference Manager  is the go to app to clean them out)
If you go the reinstallation route, be sure to use DR's FCS Remover to clear out your old installation.
Many of us who do clean installs regularly have made disc images of the FCS media and stored them on an external Firewire or USB drive. This allows a fairly quick (20-40 minute) reinstall of the whole suite.
There is a link to how to do this as a sticky as part of the FCS forum.
    good luck,
    x

  • How do I reinstall just iCal without changing anything else?

My iCal has become corrupted somehow. It opens blank or with features diabled. I just want to reinstall without messing up anything else. Do I just start the reinstall process using the system disks and then custom install? Will this leave everthing as it is? I don't want to open a can of worms. I tried dragging in the same program from another networked computer with no luck.

  • How can I reinstall crashed iCal without the Boot Disks?

I crashed iCal the other day by adding too much text into the event details field.  How do I fix the program, or how do I re-install a fresh version of it?  I have a MacBook Pro OS X 10.7.3
I also don't have any boot disks for the operating system (which is what the internet suggested using to re-install iCal off of).
Here is the error message I got:
    >>    The server responded with an error.
[Then with the text that I was trying to add underneith it]
The text reaches past the screen, and I can't move the window to see what it says at the bottom.

    Greetings,
This doesn't sound like an error with the iCal application but with the data you have in it.
Lion (10.7) does not come on a disk. It is available via download (if you purchased it in the Mac App Store or if your computer came with Lion preinstalled) or as a USB thumbdrive you buy from Apple.
For this issue I would suggest:
    Quit iCal
Click anywhere on the desktop and then click on the "Go" menu at the top of the computer screen while holding down the "option" key on the keyboard.  You will see "Library" in the menu. Click on it.
Click once on the folder called "Calendars" to highlight it.
Go to File > Duplicate (this makes a backup as you can't use iCal currently).
Once the duplication is complete, remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
    Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache if present)NOTE: To get to "Home > Library" in Lion: Click anywhere on the desktop and then click on the "Go" menu at the top of the computer screen while holding down the "option" key on the keyboard.  You will see "Library" in the menu.
    Launch iCal and test.
    If the issue persists:
    1. Go to iCal > Quit iCal
    2. Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
    Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache if present)
Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.ical (There may be more than one of these. Remove them all.)
--- NOTE: Removing these files may remove any shared (CalDAV) calendars you may have access to. You will have to re-add those calendars to iCal > Preferences > Accounts.
    3. Launch iCal and test.
    Hope that helps.

  • Can you reinstall just the portal packages?

We have a client who for some reason has lost their portal30.home procedure.
The question is, can the portal packages and procedures be re-installed w/o affecting their existing portal data and applications?
The pobhome.sql file appears to be the script that creates this procedure. Is it a simple matter of rerunning thsi script?

What are you planning to put on there that you would want to lock behind a code? =P

  • Reinstall just Dashboard? It no worky.

I never really used it on my iBook and after reading a bunch about it I decided to give it a chance.. . but. . . it won't open. Maybe I was messing around with something (I tend to) but none-the-less. Can I reinstall just DB from the OS intsall disc? Thanks in advance.

Although Pacifist can do this it wouldn't work in your case as your install disk won't include the current 10.4.4 version. You could try reapplying the stand alone .4 update from here to see if it clears the problem, but, in all honesty I feel Dashboard is eye candy only - it does nothing that I can't get done elsewhere and seems to cause a lot of people's problems here. Personally, I've switched it off and don't miss it at all!

  • Can't reinstall lion without Apple ID used to purchase???

Can't reinstall lion. It's asking for an Apple ID that was used to purchase OS X Lion?? I don't understand why I'm being asked that when it came already setup so I didn't have to buy it.
How do I get pass this question to install??
Or, how do I buy lion

I can't remember downloading it when I brought the mac but if I did I would of only used one ID and it's not working. I did buy the newer version at some stage that would change anything would it?
Iv brought lion from the store waiting on the redemption code now(waste of money) see if that works.
Just when I thought apple were becoming easy to work with!!!

  • Can I reinstall Mountain Lion if I don't like Maverick???

I want to try installing Maverick on a one-month old Macbook Air.  (purchased in September of 2013)
If I don't like it, can I reinstall Mountain Lion???

Yes you can. Just make sure to go and download the installer under the Purchased tab on the Mac App Store. I have to warn you first that you'll have to do a clean install of the OS if you want to revert back to 10.8 after upgrading to 10.9 which is I why I recommend that you do a backup beforehand using Time Machine or something similar. That way you could restore your applications and user accounts with files using Migration Assistant. Let me repeat it one more time, once you are in 10.9, the installer for OS X Mountain Lion won't allow you to downgrade using it while booted from your main volume. Look around online on how to create a bootable USB installer so that you can reformat the internal drive and do a clean install of OS X. Hope this may of help.

  • How can I reinstall JAVA on Mountain Lion?

The last Java Update screwed up Java on Mountain Lion. Thanks a lot, Apple. This is where blinking/flashing images etc etc start, and it also affects the three-finger word-look-up gesture. I compared my mac running Facebook in Safari with one in an AppleStore and the one in the shop renders the Java stuff flawlessly -- no blinking or flashing graphics, and the three-finger tap gesture works perfectly. Both macs were running the same version of Java, OS X and Safari.
If I turn off Javascript and Java (in Safari) I don't get the flashing images and three-finger-tap works.
So my question is (after reading similar threads of the same topic): IS there any one-click solution to this -- can I reinstall Java, or do I have to re-install Mountain Lion... JUST to get Java working again??!?
And per the above.. why ISN'T there a standalone Java re-installer for OS X? How difficult could it be??

I just found the solution, thanks to the "MORE LIKE THIS" links:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1572
That's where you can download the standalone installer!! I did it, ran it, and it works. Solved all the problems I've been having.
Thing is.... why is it hidden???

  • How can I reinstall iLife after Lion Recovery?

Hey, I just did a clen install of Lion in a imac mid 2011 which came with Lion and ilife preinstalled. Please somene give me some help I need those Apps back.. thanks in advance.

  • My iTunes library is missing since upgrade Lion 7.2.  I have it all backed up so that's not the issue. How can I reinstall it with all my hundreds of playlists intact or do I have to recreate each one upon reinstalling the backup copy? Thank you for help

Almost my iTunes library is missing since upgrade Lion 7.2. (the last 2.5 weeks worth of added music has transferred post-upgrade, none of whcih was bought from iTunes)
I have it all backed up so that's not the issue. How can I reinstall it with all my hundreds of playlists intact or do I have to recreate each playlist upon reinstalling the backup copy? This would save a HUGE amount of time and efforts. Thank you for your help!

    hi Limnos,
I do not mean the entire ITunes folder but, rather, the contents of the ITunes folder prior to September 29th.  (90% of the media is missing, along with all playlists)  The media that remains says it was added on 9/29 although I know most of it was added many months or even years earlier. There are no playlists listed at all, before or after 9/29.  (I know for certain that I added non-iTunes purchased songs on 10/6 although I had not created playlists for them)
I have my iTunes folder backed up on both an external drive as well as Time Machine.
I run iTunes off of an ITunes folder on my computer rather than from the external, if that's what you mean about how I have it set up.
Is it OK to drag the entire iTunes folder from the external drive onto my laptop's drive and see if that fixes it?
    Thank you for your help!
    Deb
