Can Logic Export Audio into a Movie PORTION?

I am a film composer. I'd like to export as a quicktime movie, my cue(song mix) with the appropriate portion of the movie that it is synced up to. Preferably at a user defined resolution and compression setting (ie: so I can create little preview quicktime movies to show my directors over the net).
Can this be done?
And if not, what application would be best to insert an audio file as a soundtrack into a Quicktime movie and get frame accurate results? Does PRO TOOLS do that?
Thanks in advance,
Evan EVans

sorry mate, can't be done. what you can do is;
1. with quicktimepro, extract the section that you want to do it with. you don't have to save the all the information, you can save it as a file referenced to the orginal film. when you do that, the file will only be about 165k as opposed to Gbs. so it's quick. you can then open that in logic and put your music onto the film and sync. (BTW depending on the codec you are using, you can still use movieplayer that came with authoring goodies back from OS 8 days, and that works in classic, though it doesn't play back very well, you can make the referenced file that works just fine in os x)
2. import it into imovie and edit out the bit you need, but at that rate you might as well bring the cue into imovie as well. the advnatage there is that you can export the great new codecs with first class quailty and tiny file sizes.
finally, to my knowledge protools does not allow you to extract and bounce a portion of a quicktime movie. it is a quicktime thing. you have to have quicktimepro.

  • Export Audio to QT Movie -- Expected Behavior and Other Questions

In the past I've reported that the Export Audio to QT Movie function didn't work correctly in LP 7.1.1. Well, it still doesn't seem to work correctly, but this time around I'm at least getting some kind of result. It would be kinda cool if I could get it to work according to play.
I'd like to get comments on this procedure, i.e., what kind of behavior should I expect; am I doing something wrong, etc.
    • The movie (25 minutes long) starts with a 19-second slug (no timecode burn) followed by first picture with timecode burn starting at 00:00:19:00
    • Movie Start Time = 00:00:00:00.01 (the extra bit is to work around a bug)
    • SMPTE time for bar 1 1 1 1 = 00:00:19:00
    • L & R locators set to the position & length of audio I want to export to the movie (L = bar 1 and R = bar 14)
    • Cycle = ON
    • Selected a single region of audio (track 1, outputs 1/2)
When I invoked the export function, I was presented with a dialog:
Immediately I notice that there is no 24-bit option (comments?)
    Then I encountered this message:
The file listed there is the dialog track for the movie. No problem there. Now, keeping in mind that my file is only 13 measures long (at a fairly fast tempo),
Logic then performed a very long "bounce" procedure, followed by a long "converting" procedure, followed by a "saving" procedure (in which it was writing the new QT movie file).
In the resulting movie (which BTW was the full length of the film) the audio was waaaaaaay out of sync. But aside from that, is it normal to expect that the full-length of the film will be exported? I was expecting that perhaps only the first 13-measures-worth of movie would be exported. (comments?)
So I tried again. This time I moved the song end marker to bar 14 and invoked the export function. I got all of the same dialogs as above, but the "bounce" procedure took no time at all. Neither did the "converting" procedure. I expected this, as now Logic was set to think that the song was only 14 measures long. But the "saving" procedure took as long as last time.
In the resulting movie (which was again the full length of the film), the audio was again out of sync, though not by much. Still unusable tho. Again, should I expect that only a short clip of the movie would be exported? Or, should I expect the full length movie to be saved? (comments?)
    -=iS=-
P.S. BTW, the reason my movie start time is set to 00 and not 19 seconds is because... well, that's the subject of another thread, but save to say that the above settings were the only way I could get first picture to line up with bar 1 of my song.

    Thanks for your reply George.
I normally use QT Pro to embed audio into picture also. Thought I'd try this route one more time tho.
Regarding my movie start time, I'm finding that if I set my movie start time to 19 seconds (where the burn-in first becomes visible, and which is indeed 19 seconds into the film), my SMPTE offset has to be 38 seconds. This means that Logic's t/c counter doesn't jibe with the film. So to make it so I have to enable the SMPTE view offset in the synchronization pane. But enabling it there doesn't automatically switch it on for the Giant SMPTE counter transport display.
Anyway, back to the subject at hand. I'll try the settings you suggested and see if that makes a difference.
Bouncing a chunk of movie always works perfectly here <<</div>
Can you clarify something? I know you said that you end up with a null file when you try the export thing, but in your above statement, did you mean that when you've tried this that it did in fact export a chunk of the movie, but without audio?
    Cheers!

  • Can't export audio to movie

    Hi
I am trying to add music to some video footage taken with a digital camera. I was unable to extract the audio from the footage onto my arrange window using import audio from movie. I received a message saying "no active extrac
table audio to be found" (though there is audio in the footage). Then when I exported audio to movie I found that the movie was unchanged, the soundtrack I had created did not play and the original audio remained as well.
    Any help would be appreciated.

H,thanks for the advice, I'll try it out tonight. Yeah I bought quick time pro especially to work with film in logic. I am soon to start working on a project with a film student friend of mine. I was literally tearing my hair out for two days figuring I had done something wrong and it turns out that this problem seems to be part of an apple conspiracy to hush up this flaw. That and the fact apple seem barely contactable when there is an issue with one of their problems only adds to the frustration. I expected more I have to say.

  • Can't record audio into logic

Hi guys. This is my first post here. I am new to Logic and Macs in general, so bear with me. Lol. I am trying to record bass, guitar, vocals as well as some intrument samples from Logic, but when I click the record enable button, I don't see any audio coming in. This is odd, because I can record in Soundtrack Pro, so there must be a signal getting to the computer from my Presonus Firebox. One other strange thing that is happening is that I can play audio from my two Dynaudio BM5As no problem, but when I play a sample from Ultra Beat, it plays back through the built-in speakers on my Mac. Also, when I go to play a software instrument, it doesn't play, either through the monitors or the computer. Sorry if this is a bit confusing, but I don't know how else to put it. Any thoughts? I assume it is just my own lack of technical knowledge and that the solution will be found in some sort of settings window. Any and all help appreciated.
    -Spencer

Make sure your Firebox is the selected Driver in Logic's Audio Preferences.

  • New to Soundbooth....How can I export audio from a .flv file?

    Hi,
I am sorta new to SB.  My girlfriend has purchased a study program that has numerous .flv files on a DVD.  She has asked if I can take the audio and convert each movie to an .mp3, (so that she can listen to the videos on her Iphone).  I figured I could open them in SB and then export as an .mp3, which would work fine on her Iphone.
The problem I run into is that when I open the .flv files in SB, the video appears, but the audio doesnot.  The .flv videos play fine in every other program.  Am I doing something wrong?  I figure since she purchased the DVDs (and owns the study program), that I am not doing anything illegal by removing the audio.  Are they encrypted?
Any other way to do this?
    Thanks,
    G

Use the Share menu. Choose Export Using QuickTime.
    Choose Sound to AIFF.

  • Exporting Audio with Quicktime Movie - Error 29562

There was a prior post about this that the OP marked as 'Answered' but it really wasn't for myself and a few others, so I'm posting a new topic. Sorry if that's inappropriate.
Using Logic 8.0, I've scored a section for a film and want to bounce that scene for client approval. I have the scene set with cycle region and I go to Options>Movie>Export Audio to Movie... I'm leaving the settings at their default states, and Logic runs through the process of bouncing the file, but at the end I get "Unknown System Error. Result Code=29562"
I've searched around and can't figure out what's going on. This worked fine for me on the last project I did in Logic 7 a month ago, but for some reason not working in Logic 8. Haven't applied the latest Logic update as some folks were complaining about it and I'd already started this project. Anyone know if it's addressed there?
    Otherwise, thanks for any help!

Just installed Logic 8.0.1 and the problem has disappeared! That's the only thing I've tried since the update, so I'm assuming it's fixed anyway. Now to see if anything else goes screwy....

  • Can't Drag Audio into Storyline

I'm a newer FCP X user. In the past, I was able drag audio clips from the side audio panel/library into my storyline. For some reason I can no longer move audio clips into my storyline, I think I change a FCP setting by accident. Whenever I select/click-on and audio clip from the audio panel/library, the background of my storyline viewer turns from a light gray to dark gray. In the past, this did not happen, I could just click and drag audio into the storyline and the background of the viewer did note change color. Now I can move audio into the storyline.  Does anyone have any ideas as to what happened. Thanks

Trashing the preferences does not touch your projects or your application. Preference files are kept separately and they do someties get corrupted. Trashing them is one of the first steps to troubleshoot problematic behavior in FCP X and other applications.
To trash your preferences, you can use Preference Manager:

  • Can you export audio tracks as AIFF? I dont get it!

I recorded some audio narration tracks and I am trying to export just the tracks one by one into an audio editing program.
Can you only export audio files to iTunes??????
Is there a way to export the files as normal audio files?
    Thank you!

    Ok, will do. Thanks!!!
So they don't let you set your own sample rates and such. That is pretty darn lame. Very limited control.

  • Can not export to a quicktime movie

So, I've spent the past two weeks putting this wedding video together on final cut express HD 3.5.1 and I'm all set to burn it to a DVD. I figured the easiest way to do this would be through iDVD. iDVD recommends that, while in FCE, I choose the "Export to quicktime movie" command to create a quicktime file that I can then drag and drop to iDVD. Sounds easy enough, but I simply can not export my project to QT in FCE. Every time I attempt to do so, one of two things happens: 1) after about a second of "writing audio and video" it quits w. the following error message: "file error: unknown file" or 2) the entire project is "written," but the created QT file will not open up and does not give a helpful explanation as to why.
By no means am I married to iDVD or QT if anybody has any other suggestions as to how I can feasibly get my FCE project somehow burned onto a DVD. But if anybody has any suggestions w/ or w/o exporting to QT, please please please help me as soon as you can. This is my sister's wedding video and she and her husband will be moving to colorado next week! I really need to get this to her before then.
My scratch disk is an external HD - USB-HDD (FAT32) Processor: 2 GHz Intel Core Duo, Memory: 2GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM

I have to plead ignorance regarding the firewire "drive" that you're referring to. My USB-HD is connected with a firewire cable. I'm not familiar with the distinction between this type of connection and a "firewire drive."
You might be interested to know I was able to successfully export a ten-minute DVD clip (with multiple tracks and rendered video) excerpted from my final cut project and subsequently burn it to a DVD. It didn't look like it had exported successfully, because it was still a .fcp file. I simply changed it to a .mov and changed the default opener from FCE to Quicktime and "voila" I had a quicktime movie. Too bad I can't get the same thing to work for the two-hour project.
Nonetheless, the fact that I was able to get the clip on a DVD gives me confidence that somehow, some way I can convert my whole project to a quicktime file. It's my hope that someone will read this forum and burst forth with a fresh, imaginative approach keeping in mind I'm not about to run out and spend two hundred bucks on a third hard drive I don't need.
Thanks for your suggestions. Please keep them coming if you have any other ideas.

  • Can I import audio into a clip, replacing existing audio?

I want to import audio from footage I've shot and use it to replace existing audio in a movie. Can that be done?

According to HT4622 you can copy audio into GarageBand from an app that supports copying audio to the clipboard. Once in GarageBand it would possible to make edits such as trimming or removing/repeating segments. You could then "share" the resulting song via email.
What kind of recording are we talking about? GarageBand has a maximum song length of 32 minutes (320 bars at 40bpm) which may affect its suitability for your project.

  • Can't Export Audio

Hey all, so I'm using Final Cut Pro 5.0.3, I can export video no problem, but when it comes to exporting audio, FCP will export the whole track (approx. 35 min.) but there will only be about 1 min of the audio at the begining, after that its 34 min of blank track. I'm trying to export to .aiff. Can anyone help me out?
    Thanks. JCV

The only thing i can think of is make sure you have no 'in' & 'out' points marked on the timeline... if you do, FCP will only export audio between those points...

  • Can't export audio from FCP to Soundtrack Pro

I'm running FCP 5.0.2 and have Soundtrack Pro 1.0. I'm trying to export audio tracks from a long FCP project I'm working on to ST Pro to clean them up. As shown in Apple's online demo videos, I want to export an audio track and then remove 'pops' and do noise reduction, etc. In FCP I right click the audio track I want and go down to 'Send To' but the option for "Soundtrack Pro Audio File Project" is grayed out and I can't click it.
If I unlink the tracks and then right click the audio track and 'Send To', the "Soundtrack Pro Audio File Project" isn't grayed out and looks like it would work. But that is only highlighting one audio track, not the other stereo track and not the video track. In the demo video all three were highlighted but when I relink all tracks and try to 'Send To' I get the grayed out "Soundtrack Pro Audio File Project" again.
Is there something I need to do or a step I'm missing.

You might be onto something Randy. I noticed in the Timeline if I tried to send an imported .AIF music clip to 'Soundtrack Pro Audio Project' it would allow it and the option wasn't grayed out. So I looked in my Browser window and checked out the file attributes to every clip which are listed to the right of the names. Sure enough, under the AUDIO column the .AIF music files are listed as '1 Stereo' and the rest of my captured video clips are listed in the AUDIO column as '2 Mono'.
So was there a setting for me to choose during Log and Capture that would have made them '1 Stereo' as opposed to '2 Mono'? Or is this a preference setting somewhere to change that for next time? They were recorded on my camera in stereo I'm pretty sure.
Now in terms of the massive project I've already captured and edited, should I be able to export these mono tracks individualy and fix them as needed? When I click the 'Send to' 'Soundtrack Pro Audio Project File' for these single mono tracks it asks me to 'Save' the file somewhere, is there a proper place to do this or just anywhere on the HD?
    Thanks

  • Can we import audio into GarageBand?

I'd like to import an MP3 (or any supported format) into a Garageband track.
    Can it be done?

I know this thread was last posted some time ago, but since this still comes up on the google results when asking this question, I thought I'd post the solution here as well:
You CAN import audio into GarageBand on the iPad, though you need a computer to do it. Open iTunes on your Mac or Windows machine, connect the iPad. Open the iPad up, at the top of the screen should be a tab for "Apps". Go there, then scroll down. You should see a list of apps that can share information with a computer (on mine I only have three, GarageBand, Kindle, and Clean Writer). Click on GarageBand and you'll have a chance to add files to the list. Once you've selected the files from your hard drive (i've only tried mp3 files so far), click apply.
When you go into garageband on the iPad, you can create a new track in the multi-track view, tap on the "loops" icon, tap "Audio Files" and you should see all the files you copied over from your PC or Mac. You can then drag them into the timeline. Now you can play along with your own audio.
Here's a video someone else made of the process:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0X80kB4f8O4
I just wish the iPad version of garageband had some more effects. I like to practice with my iPad and my electric bass, and on the PC I can use EQ to "remove" the bass from the original song and playback with my recordings. No EQ on the iPad makes this a bit more difficult. Still a gret product, though.

  • Can't export or Burn completed movie

I have created my movie and now want to burn it to DVD.
It is listed in my iMovie Library and I can play it there.
    The Movie is 1h 3m 15s long and 5.82GB
Using iDVD to create the DVD project I can see the source files in the Media Folder "Movies" but not the completed movie
I decided to save the movie to file and tried using the Share "File" option.  Th process appears to start and looks like it is going to take about 5 hours to complete but fails after about 30 minutes with a "compression" error code.
I have tried iSkysoft but need to drag the media into the work area and cannot locate the movie file anywhere.
    HELP!!!
    Thanks,
    John

    Hello Bill
The Adobe KB Article (http://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/kb/error-compiling-movie-rendering -or.html ) does not answer the question asked, because the end of the error message is "Unknown error" which is not listed in this article.
I often encouter this error which is a RANDOM error which occurs only with pictures (4256x2832 .jpg or more when I use panoramic pictures with more than 50 MPx) but never with video (1920x1080 HD .m2ts) from my camcorder. The only way I found to do a complete render is :
    - save and close the project without editing it,
    - close Adobe Premiere Pro (CS6 or CC, same error),
    - reopen Premiere Pro and reload the project,
    - resume the render.
If I render WITHOUT Mercury Playback Engine : all is perfect, no error but the render needs very much more time.
My own conclusion : this render crash might be due to VRAM oveflooded during render with Mercury Playback Engine (this might be checked and monitored with the freeware GPU-Z).
My GPU is GTX 570 with 1280 MB VRAM and the render are only full HD (H.264 1920x1080i).
If you have a solution except remove the GPU and purchase a GTX 770 OC 4 GB VRAM, I am waiting for it.
    My actual system :
    - CPU Intel core i7 970 (6 cores, overeclocked to 3,9 GHz),
    - MoBo : Intel DX58SO2,
    - RAM : 24 GB,
    - GPU GTX570 with VRAM 1280MB (Nvidia driver allways up-to-date),
    - HDD : RAID 10 with four WD 1002FAEX (7200 tpm, 64 MB cache),
    - OS W7 64 SP1, 64 bits (allways updated)
