Can Logic Pro 9 open very old Logic files?

Hi,
I have Logic Express 9 but can not open my quite old Logic files. I don't have my old logic version anymore and that is very annoying.
I get the error message that I have to open the file with Logic 7.
Could it be that the pro version is able to open these files?

I'm in the same trouble as many, trying to open and convert a .lso (not that old, it's from Sept 2006...) and I don't get a hand on a previous Logic (before 7,2). I run Logic 9, and it won't open this as you know.
Would you help me converting it ?!

I'm looking to do sequencing again after years away from doing it.
I have a whole load of .lso files from using a very old version of Logic - when it used to be Micro Logic - on PC.
I desperately want to be able to open up this old files if I get an iMac with a version of Logic.

I have archives of work files going back to Illustrator 1.1. Is there any way of opening these? At what point in the Illustrator development do legacy files become simpler to open? I have been working with Illustrator since 1987 so it's an important issue for me.

You must be running Office 2004, which was designed to run on PowerPC Macs.
PowerPC apps would run via "Rosetta" on Snow Leopard, but with Lion, Apple has finally pulled the plug on PowerPC apps.

Need help opening really old FreeHand files

I have some very old FreeHand files, I'm not sure what
version but probably around v.5 or so. I have all the source files
and fonts and I'd like to reconstruct FreeHand files in version 10
or even 9 if possible. Problem is I can't open the old FreeHand
files through the menu options or by dragging the files onto the
app icons.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I downloaded FreeHand BNDL
Resources from FreeHandSource.com a while back but they didn't seem
to do anything. Any help is appreciated.

Are you on a Mac? If your version of Freehand can open the
version the
file was saved as you can open the file by dragging it to the
application icon while holding down the option and apple
keys.

Pages 08 won't open my old pages file

I just upgraded to Pages 08 and when I try to open the file I was working on yesterday, with the previous version of pages, it says "The document...couldn't be opened". How can I open the old pages file with the new version?

It may be useful to trash the preferences file:
<bootVolume>:Users:<yourAccount>:Library:Preferences:com.apple.iWork.Pages.plist
But I'm afraid that the document is corrupted.
Control click its icon then select the "Show package's contents" in the contextual menu.
The standard contents is:

QuickLook
index.xml.gz
The described message is displayed when there is no "index.xml.gz" (or "index.xml") file.
It is also displayed when the "index.xml.gz" (or "index.xml") is badly formed.
The index may be dropped when the documents where stored on an iDisk.

No, Pages can only open AppleWorks 6 word processing documents. AppleWorks 6.2.9, which will run on the new Intel Macs should be able to open AppleWorks 5 & ClarisWorks files, but it often gives an I/O error when trying to open ClarisWorks 4 & earlier files. If you can get a copy of AppleWorks 6.2.4, you would not have this problem. It is only AppleWorks 6.2.9 that has the problem. You can buy a copy of AppleWorks 6.2.4 from Hardcore Mac which is likely to be the best solution for you.

It's most likely corrupted, damaged perhaps irreparably. A lot can happen to a hard drive, CD or DVD in ten years, and thus to a file.
Can you open it with any other application, such as Illustrator, Preview, Paint, etc.? You may get lucky and be able to open the flattened composite or the embedded JPEG thumbnail preview.
If there are no privacy concerns, you could upload the file to your favorite FTP service, or to Dropbox or your favorite free server, such as yousendit.com, and send the link to one of us who can try opening it for you.
That way you can know for sure whether the file is toast.
That's why backups are so important…

How can NI FBUS Monitor display very large recorded files

Is there any combination of operating system (possible Vista32 or Vista64) and/or physical memory size, where NI FBUS Monitor can display such large recordings ? NI-FBUS Monitor does not set the limitation on the maximum record file size. The physical memory size in the system is one of the most important factors that affect the loading of large record file. Monitor will try loading the entire file into the memory during file open operation.
272MB is a really large file size. To open the file, your system must have sufficient physical memory available. Otherwise "Out of memory" error will occur.
I would recommend you do not use Monitor to open a file larger than 100MB. Loading of a too large file will consume the system memory quickly and decrease the performance.

Visio 2013 opens my old VSD files fine - but they are blank and do not show content

Hello,
I have downloaded a trial of Visio Pro 2013. I opened an existing VSD file and when I open it, it is blank. No error message or anything. Shows it open but it's a blank screen.
It opens fine in previous version but blank in 2013. Is there some default or layer that needs to be turned on? Something that needs to be enabled? Why can't I see the contents?

Visio 2013 has a dramatically different file format.
Method 1. Open the VSD file in Visio 2013 ,it’ll display in Compatibility Mode and use Compatibility checker to see if the file is normal. And I recommend you convert the VSD file to VSDX to test.

Method 2. There is a setting in Visio 2013 in File > Options > Trust Centre > File Block Settings. Don’t tick “Visio 2003-2010 Binary Drawings, Templates and Stencils”.
Method 3. Open Visio 2013 in safe mode, run visio.exe /safe. If it can open normally, disable some add-ins from File > Option >Add- Ins.
Method 4. Clean Temp folder.
The temporary copy of the drawing file is named ~$$FileName.~vsd.

What are the best tools for opening very large XML files and examining the tree and confirming they are valid?

I am generating some very large XML files (600,000+ lines, 50MB+ characters). I finally have them all being valid XML and valid UTF-8.
But the files are so large Safari and Chrome will often not open them. FireFox will though.
Instead of these browsers, I was wondering if there are there any other recommended apps for the Mac for opening and viewing the XML, getting an error message if they are not valid for some reason and examing the XML tree?
I opened the file in the default app for XML which is Xcode, but that is just like opening it in a plain text editor. You can't expand/collapse the XML tree like you can with a browser, and it doesn't report errors.

Hi Tom,
I had not seen that list. I'll look it over.
I'm also in touch with the developer of BBEdit (they are quite responsive) and they are willing to look at the file in question and see why it is not reporting UTF-8 errors while Chrome is.
For now I have all the invalid characters quashed and things are working. But it would be useful in the future.
By the by, some of those editors are quite pricey!

You will find that it is the size of the photos which are the problem. Give it time - let the wheel churn!
Other considerations -
Try sending her some to see what happens.
Get you wife to send a single photo to see what happens!
Finally, try a Reset [Hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons down together for 10 seconds or so (until the Apple logo appears) and then release. When the screen goes blank power On again in the normal way.] It is absolutely/appsolutely safe!

PFF! WTF? Why wouldn't Illy CS3 be able to open Illy 1.1 files? That is **RETARDED**. Who at Adobe thinks "Gee, no one would Ever need to open old files any more!"? Some day I'm gonna want to open some old files just for nostalgia, and I'll be using Illy 2025 trying to open an Illy 6 file that I made in college.
If anyone has any input at Adobe, please tell them that we should **always** be able to open older versions of files in new applications. This goes for Ai, InD, PS, Acro, AE.
