Can Logic Pro record more than 16 channels of midi?

I want to use multiple keyboards on 8 different ports. Am I limited to 16 channels? Can I play and record keyboard 1 channels 1-5 on Port 1, and keyboard 2 channels 1-8 on Port 2? Can I record 16 channels on each of 8 ports? I have already enabled auto demix by channel, but can only use 16 channels regardless of port.

Yep, unfortunately, I'm sure you can't. I kept hoping there was some obscure way to work the Environment to be able to get around this, but all the searches turn up the same limitation. Kind of surprising, and must be something very difficult to rectify, as it's been a long-time complaint. Maybe next upgrade!!
Hopefully! The basic problem is that the sequencer doesn't allow selection of MIDI input ports per track like other DAWs. This design flaw is in fact very difficult to rectify because Logic's environment doesn't transmit port information to the sequencer. So it would require a complete rewrite or replacement of the environment.

  • Can Logic 8 have more than 64 buses?

If I click on an audio channel"s send, I am presented with 64 numbered buses. Is this Logic's default number or can a user add more buses. This is different I realize from Logic 7's "bus channels" which are not really used in Logic 8 anymore. Any insight would be appreciated!

64 Busses is the maximum amount of Busses you can have in Logic - I remember in L7 there was a preference of either having 32 or 64 Busses - in L8 you always have 64 available. If you create Bus tracks in your environment and save them in your template they will show up in your Mixer and will not be automatically assigned to Auxes which is the normal behaviour in Logic 8.
In my templates I always have Busses 1-4 available for things like Bus recording and side chaining. My effect Busses start from Bus 5 onwards being autaomatically routed to the first availlable free Aux channel.

  • Why can't I record more than 8 bars

This is so basic that its not covered in the help. My first attempt to use Garageband on the iphone was to record some conversation and it stops at 8 bars (about 16 seconds). I can't get it to record beyond this default limit. How do I get it to just keep recording?
Sorry, I just got it working but can't delete this post.

Go to setting by tapping the cog in the top right corner of the screen while in the main view of your recorded tracks. From the settings menu, go to Sections and you can make sections for your song to easily distinguish between different "sections" of your song. These sections' lengths can be edited with the blue arrow next to the Section A tab, and you can add more by clicking Add at the bottom right after scrolling down.
I STRONGLY RECOMMEND NOT USING SECTIONS because once you make a section and set its length, and then fill it up with one or more recordings or tracks, if you change the length forward or backward, it will cut off the following or previous sections. Basically, it's set in stone (unless you want to lose some of your recordings) once you set the length. I just make Section A 150 bars and lengthen it once I fill that part of it up.
    Hope this helps!

  • Can Logic Pro X slave to an external midi clock, i.e. a Roland guitar synth?

I play with someone who has a Roland guitar synth with a midi clock on it. I can wirelessly sync Arturia Spark drum software but would really like to be able to sync logic. The Roland will not sync to an external device, so I need to get Logic to follow the midi clock on the Roland. Any help would be appreciated.

Unfortunately, there is no help, Logic will not sync to external MIDI clock.
MIDI TimeCode, yes. MIDI Clock.. no.
You might look at Reaper for the Mac, not sure if they've implemented MIDI Slave sync.
You understand the problem, MIDI is Low Res, when a MIDI/Audio sequencer tries to slave to MIDI Clock, the resolution is so low there are inconsistencies... MIDI is serial information and it's very easy for delays and loose sync... MIDI and Audio falls apart. When a MIDI Midi/Audio sequencer is the master it uses the audio clock which is usually at 44.1 or 48kHz samples per second (time related), compared to 24 PPG the base MIDI resolution which is tempo related.
    No contest.

  • Can you install logic express on more than one computer

can you install logic express on more than one computer ?

Be sure to read the End User Licensing Agreement for questions of this nature. You are allowed to install Logic on two computers that you own, for example an iMac and a MacBook Pro. You cannot, however, use the two computers at the same time if they are on the same network. You can use one computer as a Logic Node to shift some of the processing load (which you would likely do with an ethernet cable) but you don't need to have a full installation of Logic on the Node  machine, just the Logic Node installation. The idea of allowing two installations is so that you might take advantage of a portable  computer in the field for on-site recording then later transfer those files to a desktop studio set up for further editing.

  • Can I have my Adobe X Pro on more than one computer?

Can I have my Adobe X Pro on more than one computer?

Well, yes, but I think there's an important point to make; I'm surprised you talk about "downloading it again". That suggests you didn't make an archive copy of the installer you downloaded for the first computer.
It is VITAL to archive a copy of what you download for software you buy. That doesn't mean just leave the download on disk, because you will need it if that disk fails or computer is dropped on the floor. We constantly see people that didn't get a copy of their old software, and now it is no longer available for download, leaving them just stuck!
So, please, save a copy on CD or DVD. Also, write the serial number on the disk, and any qualifying number if it was an upgrade. I'd hate you to be another statistic in the "how do I reinstall my old software" threads.

  • Cheap way to record more than 12 tracks?

    Hi all!
I´m looking for a lo-cost solution to record more than 12 tracks simultaneously. While 12 tracks is enough for most of my projects, I do some occasional live gig recordings where I take the feed from FOH mixing desk direct outs to my M-Audio FW1814 interface. More often than not 12 tracks is not enough so I am forced to leave out some channels, which I hate to do.
However I don´t want to pay the extra cash for Logic Pro, since outside the track number restriction, the features of LE are more than sufficent for my needs.
So I am thinking of using some other multi-track software for live recordimg and then exporting the tracks to LE for editing and mixing.
Audacity claims to support up to 16 simultaneous tracks, but I haven´t been able to achieve that. I could be doing something wrong, since the documentation doesn´t really shed any light on the subject. Does anyone here use Audacity for multi-track recording?
Any other alternatives? Keep in mind that I don´t really need any fancy features outside the recording itself.

what version of LE are you using?
i think that version 7.2 up'd the simultaneous IO of
    LE.
I don´t think so. I browsed through the "New features in LE 7.2" document ( http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/NewFeatures_in_Logic_Express7.2.pdf )and didn´t find any mention about i/o. I´m using 7.1.1 or whatever the last update for 7.1 was.
As NoEQ has mentioned M-Powered Pro Tools is at your
disposal. If you search the internet you can find
the academic version (included the dv toolkit) for
    $150 dollars.
The problem is that I live in Finland and I doubt there´s any academic versions for sale here. And 150$ is still a bit much for me. This gig recording thing is really just a hobby for me, so I don´t want to put too much money (which I dont have anyway...) in it.
you could just as easily send some of the tracks off
the board to a bus and then record a sum of the bus
and some out of the direct outs.
Yeah, I´ve done that couple of times and it usually works fine, to be honest. But it is still a bit frustrating to not have the whole capacity of my hardware in my disposal, just because of an artificial software restriction.
But thanks to everyone that have participated in this thread. I´m still considering my problem unsolved, so feel free to chime in.

    Thanks for any help available.
Just schedule one;  then schedule the second.  No special instructions needed.
Note:  When recording 2 programs at the same time, you will not be able to watch a third channel because the DVR only has two tuners.
While not being able to watch a live TV show when recording 2 shows you can watch an already recorded show (third show).

Now, if I select more than five links at a time (and sometimes with five links) it will only open the first five and TextEdit pops up with the alert, "The 'Open URL' service could not be used."

  • MacBook pro takes more than 10 minutes to start with ML ?

My Macbook pro takes more than 10 minutes to start. I press Start and it takes more than 10 minutes before I can enter my password. Need your help !

Sounds like time for a PRAM reset. Here's how:
    1. Power down the machine.
    2. Locate the following keys on your keyboard in preparation for Step 4:
    ‘command’ – ‘option’ – ‘P’ – ‘R’
    3. Press the ‘power on’ button.
    4. Immediately – and before the grey screen appears – hold down ‘command-option-P-R’ all together.
    5. Keep them held down until you’ve heard the start-up chime twice. After you release them you should hear it again, and hopefully your Mac will boot up as normal.
