Can  mac os x connect to Airport pre-logon?

Hi all,
I'm trying to get an iBook to connect to a wireless network pre-logon. Here's what's in place:
Windows 2003 domain (active directory based), mac XServe (10.4.2) 'managing' the mac clients on the network, in terms of security and all the rest of it.
The iBook is bound to the active directory domain, and all is working properly when the ethernet cable is plugged in, but we have a pretty big issue with airport.
I want to know whether i can set the iBook up so that it joins our wireless network when it boots up, so that active directory users can login to the laptop via wireless. I know that we can use 'mobile' accounts, but what about users that almost never logon to the iBook..
I want to get away from using mobile accounts.
I can save all the wireless information into Internet Connect (under a 802.1x connection), is there any way of accessing this when the computer boots up, so it automatically logs on to the wireless network, and then we have full network access? This MUST happen pre-logon.
if anyone has an ideas, please let me know!
David.

I'm trying to figure out the same thing.
OSX Client 10.3.9
Airport Extreme client adapter v400.17 (3.90.34.0.p11)
Airport utility is 4.2
AP is Cisco 1230AG, with Microsoft Win2003 Server IAS backend.
eapolclient - this is the 802.1x client.
I am able to connect manually after logon using EAP-TLS, by putting the CA cert in X509Anchors, and identity cert in System (private+public pair). eapolclient accesses the keychain successfully, and automatically logs on (without the password prompt).
But when I logout, or switch user, the connection drops. And a reboot doesn't connect either.
I also notice that the "eapolclient" process disappears in these cases.
Would this issue be related to the eapolclient running as a user space program at runtime, rather than being a "system" process run at boot time.
Anyone come across a reason for this? Fixes? Bugs identified.

  • Can mac mini work connected to imac desktop

can mac mini work connected to imac desktop. I know its silly question but can i make the mac mini main operating system on my imac after transferring all of my itunes etc?

    What is Target Display mode?
But only 27" iMac (Late 2009 or Mid 2010) can do this.
Since you mentioned an Early 2009 iMac I assume that it is a 24" iMac which sadly has not this capability.
If I am correct, you might wanna have a look at ScreenRecycler http://www.screenrecycler.com/ScreenRecycler.html

  • Can't see printer connected to Airport

I and an Airport Express (AE) unit as my main router and set up a second AE with the intention of being able to send documents to my printer wirelessly.  The Airport Utility says the connection is good, and the printer is connected by USB cable to the second AE, but Word cannot see the printer.
    Any suggestions appreciated.

Never mind my post.  I found one from Pahu stating that the Canon MF4350d printer that I have is not compatible with Airport Express.  He says that the MF4350dn (a different model) will work if connected to Airport express with an internet cable.  Other people apparently have experienced this problem also, so I guess it's back to the wires.

  • Can't restore network connectivity to Airport Express

I have both a wired network, and a wireless network at home. The wired network is provided by a DSL model connected to an EtherFast Cable/DSL router. The wireless network is provided by an Airport Express that is plugged into the the router.
A while back there was a software update for the Airport. After installing the update, I lost my wireless network, and I have been trying to restore it.
I performed a factory reset on the Airport Express. This allows me to see it when I run Airport Utility on my Power Mac system, which is connected to the wired network.
The router is set so that I specify IP addresses for each of my system rather than using something like DHCP. I tried messing around with the setup for the Airport Express, and nothing I tried would get it to work after it Airport Utility updated the base station and restarted it. I was finally able to make some headway with this by manually assigning the base station and IP address, and having it create a wireless network.
After resetting the base station, it came up, and now has a solid green light. I was able to join my iBook to the network it created. However the iBook cannot access the Internet nor any of the other systems on my wired network.
The base station shows up when I run Airport Utility from the iBook. Airport Utility from the Power Mac can no longer find it.
What can I try that will allow me to restore network connectivity to my wireless network?

If it's an older 802.11b/g router you can't use the AirPort Utility on iPhone to configure it. Use the AirPort utility for Mac or Windows. You have many more configuration options using the desktop software as well. The utility on the iPhone is very basic.

  • Can Mac OS X connect to multiple neteorks?

    Hello
I'm having second thoughts about buying an AirPort Express... I have a Time Capsule 500GB and shares as a backup device and a wireless printer, but I want to share my 1TB Western Digital EHDD (External Hard Drive), and share music using AirTunes... So can a mac connect to the AirPort Express AND Time Capsule? So I can backup AND share my music?
    Thanks!

You aren't describing two networks, you are describing a single network with two devices on it (the AirPort Express and the Time Capsule). Yes, you can have both devices on the same network and use them at the same time.

  • Mac will not connect to airport

I am trying to connect to a disk attached to my airport base. when I click on it in finder it says connecting as and hangs. If I click disconnect it hangs. I am not doing this from and admin account so I would like to use the connect as button but that is no where to be seen. Obviously I am missing things about id, passwords and network connectivity. can anyone point me to documentation on this or at least how to set up an airport base so I can access the shared disk?
I am using the latest osx on a 1 year old iMac with a brand new airport base with time capsule.

    Hi fdrussell,
Welcome to the Support Communities!  Were your Airport Extreme and Mac Pro communicating earlier?  If so, what changed?
First try shutting down the computer, and recycling the power to the Airport Extreme.  Then start the Mac Pro and see if that resolves the issue.
If needed, perform a Hard reset of the Airport Extreme:

I hope this information helps ....

  • My mac mini will connect via airport but not via ethernet.

I have had a mac mini for several months which I connect via ethernet because it is in a part of my house where the wireless signal is poor. I changed ISP and now I can connect to the router wirelessly but not via ethernet. This doesn't seem to be a problem with the network as the connection works when I connect it to my mac book. Firewall is turned off. There were no major changes to the router settings other than changing the ISP login codes.
Any ideas? Is this a configuration issue or a hardware problem?

    Hi Mick,
If your router only supports 10/100 ethernet then it is possible that the auto-detect feature is not working properly to adjust to that speed. The mini has a Gigabit ethernet port. The OS by default sets the port to automatically negotiate the rate but it does not always work and the result is the problem you are having.
To fix it you wlll have to manually set the rate to 100.
To do this, open your system preferences, Select Network. Highlight the ethernet port on the sidebar, click the advanced button. Click on the Ethernet Tab, set the configure pop-up menu item to 100baseTX and click the ok button. If all works out you should see that the Ethernet port icon should turn green.
    Hope this helps.

  • Apple Power Mac G4 speakers - connecting to Airport Express?

    Hi.
Is it possible to connect the old Apple Power Mac G4 speakers (ie. those displayed at http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300153379805&fromMakeTrack= true&ssPageName=VIP:watchlink:middle:uk) to my Airport Express?
That is, do the two devices have compatible jack and jack socket?
    Thanks

Simply converting the mechanical connection isn't enough.
There used to be a device called an iFire which allowed you to use those speakers with any computer that had FireWire. That device has been discontinued for a very long time. Anyway it wouldn't allow you to connect the speakers to an AX.
You need powered speakers to use with the AX.

  • Mac mini will connect to AirPort Extreme, but not internet

I just picked up an AirPort Extreme and hooked it up. My Mac mini connects to the base station with no problem, but will not connect to the Internet. Wen using the airport utility it is an amber light next to Internet.
I am able to get my iPhone and iPad to connect correctly. They both show that they are connected to the base station and the Internet. No sure what I need to do on my Mac to get it working properly.
I'm running 10.8.2 on my Mac. APX is 5th gen.

have you configured your Airport extreme to provide addresses via DHCP?
    If your WiFi settings are:
    IPv4 Address: 10.0.1.4
    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
    Router: 10.0.1.1
    DNS Server: 10.0.1.1
and WiFi is working with no problems
then having the same settings, just different IP address' last digit should work for Ethernet...
Have you connected the Ethernet cable to the computer as well as the Airport Extreme ?
Alternatively, you may change DNS server address to 8.8.8.8

  • Can Amazon Kindle be connected via Airport Extreme ?

Is it possible to register Airport Extreme as a Wi-Fi connection with the cheaper version of Amazon Kindle ?
If so , what do I need to do?
    James

It should. The AirPort Extreme Base Station is capable of providing all current Wi-Fi radio modes on both the 2.4 & 5 GHz radio bands. Any Wi-Fi enabled Kindle shouldn't have any issues connecting to it.

  • Can not get past "inactive" on airport?

Yep, can not turn airport active in Network prefs, "Turn Airport ON" button is grayed out. I believe this started w/ 10.5.8. My Mac pro is connected to airport w/ ethernet (bridged from a Linksys --ya know the linksys never has problems, it just runs -- what giver w/ apple's superiorty -- airport problems and printing problems just seem common w/ OS updates?), but I have to get on one of the other mac in the house have normal access to the airport.
I have trashed airport prefs in system config, hard reset the airport, but really no change? Thanks

I have the same problem since switched from Leo to Snow Leopard. Apple has a bug that trashes our work with the MAC.

  • How connect to airport from windows partition on mbp?

I have recently added Windows 7 to my MBP. The MBP is connected to my home network via Airport Extreme. When I'm in Windows, there is no connection to a network. Anything I do there involving setting up a network connection, a screen shows "no connection." Stops me cold. I do get a screen that asks several tech questions, such as ISP addr., password, etc.
I did find my "IP" addr. in Airport Utility, but I don't know if that's same as "ISP." If anyone has successfully installed Windows 7 on their MAC & established a connection w/ Airport Extreme, I'd like to know how they did it. If you need more info, let me know.

    Hi,
To connect to the virtual network with a point-to-site VPN, you’ll need to install a VPN package on the VPN client computer. Since Windows 10 and MAC OS are not supported, the related VPN packages are unavailable.
In addition, if you have a on-premise VPN device, you can create a site-to-site VPN instead.Or you can use ExpressRoute to create private connections between Azure datacenters and infrastructure that’s on your premises.
For more detailed information, please refer to the links below:

  • Can I connect the Airport Express to a TV and watch the screen of my Mac on the TV?

Could I know if I can connect the Airport Express to the TV and watch the screen of my Mac or iPad or iPhone... On the TV?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
That's not possible with an AirPort Express. However, what you can do is to use an Apple TV if you want to mirror your iPhone, iPad and Mac onto the TV, being all of them connected to the AirPort Express. Read > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5209?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

  • How can I print from my IPAD3 to a printer connected to Airport Express?

How can I print from my IPAD3 to a printer connected to Airport Express? I have a HP printer and I can print from all my Windows PC and iMAC in the house. How can I print from my IPaD?

    You cannot.
The USB port on the AirPort Express allow sharing a printer with Windows and Mac OS X, not with iOS:
"Wireless printing over USB requires a compatible printer and OS X v10.2.7 or later, Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7":
    http://www.apple.com/airportexpress/#wireless-printing
"AirPrint-enabled printers  connected using Bluetooth or shared through a USB port of a Mac, PC, AirPort Base Station, or Time Capsule are not supported":
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4356
The HP ePrint app also does not provide such functionality:
Can I print from the HP ePrint mobile app using USB or Bluetooth?
No. You can only print directly to supported HP printers on a local wireless network.
