Can MacBook Pro computers download PC software?

Can a MacBook pro download PC software. I had a distant family member visit with his MacBook pro and download windows 7. Can they also download Microsoft Word and PC games?

Sure, you can download anything you like with a MacBook. However, you might not be able to run it, if it is a windows program - you will need to have windows loaded as an operating system on your MacBook running under bootcamp.

  • I have a macbook pro after downloading yosemite software everything crashes help please.

My computer takes a long time to turn on sometimes it does not even turn on... all my app from my mac crashes my adobes programs safari freezes a lot my google chrome wont even work....
    what to do ? please.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
For this step, the title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
In the top right corner of the Console window, there's a search box labeled Filter. Initially the words "String Matching" are shown in that box. Enter the name of the crashed application or process. For example, if Safari crashed, you would enter "Safari" (without the quotes.)
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
☞ The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
☞ Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
    In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ User Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of crash reports. The name of each report starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report related to the process in question. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a crash, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful.

We can't help you if you don't even know what you are installing.  Never install anything if you do not know what it is.  Installings through Software Update always have explanations which you should be reading to see if you actually need and/or want them.
That being said, it appears you attempted to upgrade to Mavarick.  Although I am not positive.
Sorry, I am going to back out of this because I nor you know what it was you installed.  Hopefully, someone else will chime in here.
    GOOD LUCK!

Ever since I purchased from Appstore, location Hungary, and upgraded to OS X Lion on my MacBook Pro, during downloads and installation of various apps or software, I get prompts part in English and part in Hungarian, which is very irritating, I prefer the prompts to be in one language, that is English. is there any solution?

Go to system preferences/language & text/language and use the Edit button to uncheck the box for Magyar/Hungarian and restart.

  • How do i authorize my macbook pro to download apps

how do i authorize my macbook pro to download apps

    Authorization and Deauthorization
Macs:  iTunes Store- About authorization and deauthorization.
Windows: How to Authorize or Deauthorize iTunes | PCWorld.
In iTunes you use the Authorize This Computer or De-authorize This Computer option under the Store menu in iTunes' menubar. For Windows use the ALT-S keys to access it. Or turn on Windows 7 and 8 iTunes menus: iTunes- Turning on iTunes menus in Windows 8 and 7.
More On De-authorizing Computers (contributed by user John Galt)
You can de-authorize individual computers, but only by using those computers. The only other option is to "de-authorize all" from your iTunes account.
      1. Open iTunes on a computer
      2. From the Store menu, select "View my Account..."
      3. Sign in with your Apple ID and password.
      4. Under "Computer Authorizations" select "De-authorize All".
      5. Authorize each computer you still have, as you may require.
You may only do this once per year.
After you "de-authorize all" your authorized computers, re-authorize each one as required.
If you have de-authorized all computers and need to do it again, but your year has not elapsed, then contact: Apple - Support - iTunes - Contact Us.

And yes, you need LOTS of Internet to get the latest cat. The installer file is just 4.5GB in size, so on most internet connections it will take awhile to download. Once that happens, you will have a choice to install it on top of your existing Lion partition, or onto a different one, that can even be a totally blank one.
Since you probably don't want to redo the wait, be sure to quit the installer as soon as it finishes downloading and starts up automatically. Then save the installer (called "Install OS X Mountain Lion", and found in your Applications folder) onto another disk before going thru with the installation. When it concludes, it will erase itself.

  • After connecting my iPhone to my Macbook Pro to download photos to my phone, my pages application is now gone from my computer. The icon is still in the dock. What happened and how do I get it back?

After connecting my iphone to my Macbook Pro to download photos to my phone yesterday, my Pages application is gone from my computer. The icon is still in the dock. What happened and how do I get it back? Its not in my trash or anywhere else.

The other 2 applications open like normal. All three give me info.
    Pages     ver.4.1          265.8MB
    Numbers ver. 2.1          89.5MB
    Keynote ver. 5.1.1        238.1MB
They all list Apr 3 as the last time opened. That was when I upgraded to Mavericks. I certainly used pages and numbers since then as I have alot of my work files on this computer?
Just very odd. I did find my original iWorks disc from when I bought the computer. I'm assuming i can reinstall it. Will try that. Thank you for all your help. Would still like to know what did happen?

  • Hi, after that crash of my MacBook Pro I download again Lightroom 5 with my license serial number removed , but the system say that my number is wrong, but is not. What shall I do???, thanks

You probably downloaded the Lightroom Creative Cloud version. Your Perpetual License key will not work.
Uninstall the existing version of Lightroom, this process will not affect your Catalog, Preferences or personal files.
Then download the correct version from the link below, install and enter the license. Every thing should be just fine. (Also by displaying your License Key for all to see anyone can use it to have a free copy of the program)

  • Does a Macbook Pro need a antivirus software?

does the Macbook Pro need a antivirus software?

OS X doesn't need any antivirus as it already comes with security systems. Also, other antiviruses may slow down your Mac and most of them are useless, because they are only valid for detecting Windows viruses. In this case, it's a good idea to install an antivirus if you have files that you will transfer to PCs, because you can infect other PCs. Note that PC viruses don't affect to Macs (unless you are running Windows). Read > http://www.thesafemac.com/mmg
If you want an antivirus, run ClamXav or Sophos. These are the best ones for Mac

  • Can MacBook Pro Retina be used to convert vinyl records to digital files?

Can MacBook Pro Retina be used to convert vinyl records to digital files?

As the retina model doesn't have a line-in port, you'll also need a USB input device.
Griffin's iMic is a Mac stalwart. However, they don't list Lion or ML in the compatibility list, so some further research may be necessary.
If that's OK, their Final Vinyl software is free.
There are other analogue-to-digital converters, though most if not all are more expensive, and the excellent (free) Audacity  software will also help with the import and any editing. It exports to a good selection of audio file types too.

  • I downloaded a web site isytd video downloader on my macbook pro, to download videos. but it didnt  work , so I removed the softwear from my mac, even I removed it the download sign appears on the left top of my video screen,  so I want to remove this

I downloaded a web site isytd video downloader on my macbook pro, to download videos. but it didnt  work , so I removed the softwear from my mac, even I removed it the download sign appears on the left top of my video screen,  so I want to remove this download sign. How can I get this done? Please help me.

Many apps are not completely removed if the .app file is trashed (which is what I believe you've done so far).
If you don't want to dig through the system to manually remove library files, I recommend the use of AppCleaner, which does the job for you.

  • Whenever i try to update my macbook pro, it downloads then says I need to restart my computer. I restart the computer, and everything just freezes. When my computer eventually turns back on, its not updated. other apps i try to download dont download also

    First, do the following:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
When you complete the above re-download your OS X upgrade (not sure which one that is, but I assume Mavericks.) After the download is completed re-install it. Hopefully, this time it will do what you expect.

  • I recently updated my MacBook Pro to the new software, and now my iMessage and my FaceTime are not connected with my computer. How do I get them to match so that I would be able to use my cellphone number?

I recently updated my MacBook Pro to the new software, and now my iMessage and my FaceTime are not connected with my phone number like it is supposed to be. How do I get them to match so that I would be able to use my cellphone number on my notebook?

To reset any OS X program just go to the folder and trash the affected files.
    Open a new Finder Window
Click "Go" in the above status bar
Click and HOLD the "option/alt" key and you will see "Library" now show in the above list
Click Library while still holding the option/alt key and a new window will open with all of your system files
Go to the preference file (NOT Preference Panes)
    Locate a file named <com.apple.FaceTime.bag.plist>
    Locate another file named <com.apple.FaceTime.plist>
    Locate the file <com.apple.iMessage.bag.plist>
Drag the files to the trash
    Delete the trash
Close FaceTime and iMessage if not already closed
Relaunch FaceTime and iMessage from Applications folder
This should reset the program back to default. You will have to put your information back into the program but it should work.
    Good Luck.

  • My MacBook Pro has downloaded my old emails twice into my Outlook folder. Why? How do I stop this from recalling all the old emails?

My MacBook Pro has downloaded all my previous emails (several months worth) and reloaded them into my Inbox twice! Why is this happening? How do I get it to stop from happening again?
    Thanks!

Since this is an Outlook question, you should ask over on the Microsoft Office for Mac forums.
