Can Memory Setting be made in LR, similar to Scratch disks in Photoshop ?

System Settings in LR are as follows:   CAn these be Adjusted and HOW ?
Lightroom version: 2.7
Operating system: Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 3 (Build 2600)
Version: 5.1
Application architecture: x86
System architecture: x86
Physical processor count: 2
Processor speed: 2.1 GHz
Built-in memory: 3326.1 MB
Real memory available to Lightroom: 716.8 MB
Real memory used by Lightroom: 473.1 MB (66.0%)
Virtual memory used by Lightroom: 481.8 MB

There is no scratch disk for Lr but you can set the cache size in >Edit >Preferences >File Handling tab - see screen shot.
As you can see I have set mine to 75 GB; Adobe recommends 25 GB, although the Lr default is 1 GB.

  • Can I set up a home network similar to a corporate one

I am about to get a second mac so my wife and I dont have to fight for it, how can I set it up so that I can use either mac but have the same login in account. this is especially useful so I can get the same Iphoto libraries/albums, synch iphone etc.

What do you mean by "have everything on an external"? do you mean like putting the iPhoto folder, iTunes folder, etc. on the external? yes that is possible, if you mean installing the Mac os on the external I doubt that it will boot from the external drive for the comp.   But yes if you put the folders on the external and point both iTunes, or iPhoto, or what ever app you need to those folders on the external then you can access them from both comps.

  • How can i make my external hard drive be the scratch disk with 1 FW input?!

Hello! I use firewire with my external HD AND my camera...however i only have one firewire input...i set my scratch disk for final cut to work with my external HD but when i am importing footage to my computer with my camcorder, i can not have my external HD plugged in, thus the scratch disk has to be set to something else to continue working. So how can i work around this problem?! Should i just change the settings back after i import the footage and it all goes to place?

I don't understand the need to daisy chain. I have one Firewire port on my MacBook Pro, and I use a Firewire hub. I've been connecting two 1TB Western Digital My Book Studio Edition hard drives (one for FCE and iMovie projects; one for the media files I create via export), and a Canon NTSC ZR200 miniDV tape camcorder, or a Sony Digital8 tape camcorder, or sometimes a Canopus ADVC 110, without issues. Why not use a Firewire hub? . . . except to save the small expense.

  • Can I use my old g5 tower as a scratch disk for my Macbook Pro for Photoshop?

I just made the laptop jump away from towers and am a little shocked by how much difference a smaller scratch disk makes. Can I use my old tower as a scratch disk to help out my new Macbook Pro?
Any other tweaks I can do to speed up large files in Photoshop? Should I bump up the ram usage by Photoshop above the recommened percentage?

Hm. It sounds like you know what you are talking about, and apparently I don't. I was just going to plug in a firewire cable to both and hoped that magically scratch disk would appear as an option for my tower.
Cant I somehow boot the tower as using as a hardrive only? Or applesharing or something else?

  • What is the recommended set up for Final Cut Pro re: Scratch Disks etc

What is the recommended set up for Final Cut Pro with regards to Scratch Disk etc.
I have a lot of projects and at the moment they are all over the place on various external HDDs etc.
I just bought a new Firewire 800 External HDD and want to get everything straight but I'm not quite sure where to start...
    Any advice would be appreciated.
    Thank You

Media Manager (available from the File menu bar item) will consolidate all elements of your project together with a linked copy of the project file to a single folder in a location of your choice. There are various options to leave out unused footage, include handles etc. Safest way is to copy the files. Delete the originals when you are sure the copy works.
The user manual has a detailed description of how MM works.

  • Exporting a file, can I set a custom filename suffix, similar to lightroom?

    Hello,
In Lightroom you can specify a custom filename suffix string, so when I export a file the filename has my suffix. Example: DSC_1234_lr.jpg
    "lr" being my custom suffix.
Is there a similar feature in Photoshop?
    Thanks,
    Mark

This script gives you that option...

  • Can you set permissions to be different on 2 USB disks/folders

I have two usb disks connected to my Airport Extreme and would like to restrict access to each disk separately if that is possible and if it is I would also like to restrict access down to folder level on each disk.
Does anyone know if this can be done (and if so how?)

If I change the access to accounts will I lose the data already stored?

  • Macbook Pro with Dual hard drives. Scratch Disk, Memory 64bit, Raid, Set Up Questions.

Hello, this is my first post.
I just upgraded from the original 2006 17" Macbook Pro to a refurbished 13" Macbook Pro 2.53GHZ 4GB Ram (2009 model).
I bought the MCE Tech Optibay and installed it (if you dont know anything about it, ask me, its amazing.) So now I have 2x 500GB 7200RPM Seagate hard drives installed.
I am running Snow Leopard, CS3, Lightroom 1.4.
I have the main hard drive set up with Snow Leopard and all the Applications. I keep all my files on external firewire 800 drives, except files I am currently working on.
The second hard drive is set up as a scratch disk for Photoshop CS3 and that is it.
I am looking to upgrade to CS5 and Lightroom 3 here within this month or so. Or if I get anxious, tomorrow, haha.
I want to know the best setup I can do with my current set up with CS3 and for my future setup with CS5.
    Any info will appreciated.
-Would some kind of raid set up with my internal drives be better? How does raid work with scratch disks?
-If I upgrade to 8GB memory in my macbook pro, would I even see a difference in performance if I didn't have a scratch disk? Since CS5 and Snow Leopard can use more memory in 64bit.
I think thats all I have on my brain right now. I may have more questions, or I can guarantee I will have more later.
    Thanks alot.

First the scratch. Like you said, most everyone has a different take on scratch discs but I'd guess you're wasting one heck of a lot of hard drive space using all 500 GB for Scratch, did I read that right? If I did read it correctly YES, partition it and get some use out of it!!
I've got a unibody MBP 2.93GHz, OS 10.5.8, CS3 & PS 5 (running in 32bit mode), and 8 gigs of ram. I've partitioned the one 300 GB drive so 50GB is scratch, the other partition is for OS, & Apps, and documents (images).
I use LR 2 first than export to PS 5 to finish up. My photos get to be 300MB to 500MB in size and both versions of PS work on this setup just fine. Using PS 5 in 64 bit mode is faster opening files but NON of my plugin's are 64 bit yet, that's why I'm still stuck in 32 bit mode.
Not knowing what size or kind of files you work on makes giving advice a bit tough but try setting the status indicator (don't know the right name for it) in the bottom left corner of any PS open file to "Efficiency" and watch what happens when you process your files. I rarely see mine drop below 90%, I've got the usable RAM in PS Prefs set to it's max suggested, cut way back on History and Cache.
Can't wait for NIK and others to offer their plugin in 64 bit, later this year is what I was told.
There used to be an old "rule of thumb" with old version of PS about Scratch disc size. I don't remember exactly but it may have been 3 to 5 times the size of your biggest file??
    Good luck, Alan

    Hi tomgoggs,
iTunes purchases do not count against your iCloud memory space. See this article for what iCloud is used to store -

    Hi,
Try saving your settings as a Preset by clicking the Preset drop down and then select Save Current Settings as a Preset.
Next try changing the settings by selecting the saved preset.
That allow saving the settings for a specific printer, I assume it may also allow selecting these settings for another printer.

  • I just bought an iPhone 4S 3 days ago, but its battery seems to lose 1% every 3-4 minutes. I tuned off some location services, bluetooth, and even siri,  and made its settings similar to my two-year old iPhone 4.  The 4S can last much shorter.

I am having the exact same problem with my iphone 5.
I took it back to the Apple store 2 days ago and they gave me a new one, but they told me not to restore it from backup cos if something (an app) is corrupted it will happen again. The only thing they could keep was my contacts cos they did something there that allowed them to transfer them to the new phone. I went home, and downloaded only ONE app (facebook), and guess what - THE PROBLEM IS STILL OCCURING ON THE BRAND NEW PHONE! It is driving me insane as I cant get through the day without my phone.
Really hoping someone has a fix that will work

Can I set 10 GB memory to NTFS read cache like CSV cache, or Stroage Space SSD Tier on Windows Server 2012 R2 ?
I want to use 10 GB memory to NTFS file system read cache for random read speed up.
CSV Volume have CSV Cache function,
Windows Server 2012 R2 Storage Space have SSD Tier function.

    Hi Yoshihiro,
There is no build-in system function which support to setup memory as disk cache. I know some third party software support this so you could have a search with related keywords (memory, hard disk cache).
