Can missing utilities prevent me from upgrading?

Im having an issue with upgrading my (Late 2007) Macbook Pro to OS X 10.6. Im missing several utilities and im wondering can this be the cause of my upgrade failure. The original disk will not load and ejects after a few spins but other DVD's with media on them will load. Some of the missing utilities are Disk Utility, Boot Camp Assistant, Terminal etc. Please feel free to respond with your expertise about a resolution to my dilemma.

The problem has nothing to do with the missing utilities, although, I can't understand why you would delete those utilities.
Your problem could be:
Dirty, scratched, or smudged DVD - clean with rubbing alcohol and lint-free cloth.
Optical drive's laser is dirty or out of alignment.
Optical drive is failing.
The DVD is damaged.

I am using a Palm Pilot still for several purposes, and the desktop version can run om my Mac OS X 10.6.8, but I cannot find a version thjat runs on OS X Mavericks, which prevents me from upgrading as my PalmPilot is storage for vital info. Any solution?

Thank for for your suggestions. Unfortunately they are of little help. I am running on Snow Leopard and the PalmDesktop works fine. However, I do not want to quit my PalmTungsten unit as it is my backup for all my important access information. If it cannot run on Mavericks and no other solution is at hand, I simply will not update my OS X, but work on my Snow Leopard as it is.
I do not know how on earth I can migrate the information from my Palm into another system, and then quit the PalmPilot. If you have any intelligent solutions to this I would appreciate an input. A manual copy and paste solution is not acceptable. I may however run it on Windows via Parallel Desktop, but it is a lousy solution, and demonstrates (again) the weakness of Apple's OS and lack of compatibility. I am not impressed by the OS X performance.
    Thank your for your attention.

If you were using Time Machine your backups are deleted at regular intervals to make room for the next backup.
    Solution: don't use Time Machine.

  • Adobe: AIR bug preventing us from upgrading to AIR 3.x

Adobe, since you released AIR 3.0 there's a bug that causes embedded PDFs to expand beyond the application window's width. The bug is detailed here.
In AIR 3.1 the issue hasn't been fixed, nor does the release notes say it's a "known issue". This concerns me since the bug was logged well before AIR 3.1 was released. I have asked for an update on the ticket but had no response, so currently I don't know whether this issue will be fixed before the AIR 3.2 release.
We cannot use AIR 3.x because it prevents us from reading PDFs and the workaround provided does not work for us. Can anyone tell me what's happening about this issue please?

We are looking at the bug https://bugbase.adobe.com/index.cfm?event=bug&id=3000289 for upcoming release project.
    thanks,

  • HT201232 how can I stop icloud drive from upgrading?

iCloud drive has been updating almost 2 days or longer on my 5s.  How can I stop it from upgrading so long?
I was having a problem with not being able to swipe pages and opening apps for almost 3 weeks, so I downloaded iOS 8.1 to see if that would help but it didn't and now the icloud drive won't stop updating on my 5s.  I unclicked icloud on my laptop and backed up to my computer but that didn't stop iCloud updating on my phone, I've also reset my phone and that didn't help.

The problem is that should iCloud Photo restart, say, through a computer restart, the problem starts all over again. Apparently removing the photo from iPhoto did not do the trick.
Did you delete the corrupted photo from its event and from My Photo Stream as well? Have you deleted the photo completely by emptying iPhoto's Trash and the System Trash?
You could also try to delete the photos from the folder ~/Library/Application Support/iLifeAssetManagement/assets/sub/
That will remove the temporary copy of "My Photo Stream" on the Mac from the user library.
The user library is hidden by default. To open the hidden User Library:
    Use the Finder's "Go" menu.
Click "Go", then hold down the options key, until you are seeing "Library" in the drop down menu appear and click it.
In the Finder window that will open navigate to the folder ~/Library/Application Support/iLifeAssetManagement/assets/sub/.

  • My iphone 4s goes back to home screen during text and apps. Is there anything I can do to prevent it from doing that?

Can you tell me how to prevent my phone from crashing and returning to the home screen while I am in the middle of a text or in an app?

When was the last time you powered your iPhone off and on?
Try a reset instead which is similar to a computer restart. Press and hold the home button and the sleep/wake or on/off button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo and then release.

  • Price changes and lack of customer loyalty prevent me from upgrading.

I just spoke to two representatives over chat on this site and on the phone.  Bot reps informed me I would have to pay over $30 more per month to simply add a phone line to my account which should only be $10.  They will not go outside the "bundles" to offer services.  They told me I would have to upgrade my internet speed and cable package just to add a landline.  I'm a verizon wireless and fios subscriber who pays my bill on time every month but they would not work with me.  I'm usually able to talk sales people into giving me what I need for the right price but I was stonewalled.  I'm happy I have a month to month plan because I may have to switch bacck to Cablevision.

    Hi rmpagejr3,
I'm so sorry you've had to spend so much time and effort on your price match request; it is certainly not intended to be such a chore for our customers. I was glad to see that Heidi from our Facebook team reached out to you last week. Please let her know if you require any further assistance.

  • Can a PDF prevent itself from being cached locally?

    Hi folks -
I work for an non-profit organization that provides retirement/medical benefits. There are a number of PDF fillable forms that we would like to provide access to via our portal, forms that may require our users to enter sensitive information such as Social Security Number, etc. This isn't really a pressing concern for our users on their home computers, but we are concerned about caching of this kind of data on a borrowed machine or a public machine.
I know that Reader local caching can be avoided via deselection of the "Use Page Cache" setting. However, we'd like to take this concern out of the equation from the start and avoid having the users themselves being required to stop the local caching. Is there any way to create a PDF that will not be eligible for local caching? Does anyone have any suggestions other than that for how we can avoid this situation?
    Thanks in advance!
    Frank

    Thanks for the reply, Michael.
I understand what you are saying, and was aware of those aspects of PDF usage, but let me re-phrase what I am asking: if a user looks at a fillable form, fills out their info, prints the completed PDF form, and closes either Adobe Reader or their browser session that presented the PDF (more likely the latter scenario), how can we ensure that none of the information they entered remains accessible on the computer that person was using?
    Thanks -
    Frank

  • Everytime I save a Favorite it goes into the Recently Bookmarked folder which is not what I want. How can I permanently prevent this from happening?

If I copy/paste a link from Recently Bookmarked into Unsorted Bookmarks and then delete the link from Recently Bookmarked the link is then also deleted from Unsorted Bookmarks. WTF!! I have tried numerous way to get a Favorite into Unsorted Bookmarks or one of my other folders to no avail. It always goes into Recently Bookmarked. What's the point of the Recently Bookmarked folder if I then can't organize my Favorites the way way I want them. At this point I hate Recently Bookmarked and want to permanently banish it or I'm just going back to Windows Explorer. At least Explorer's bookmarking system works. BTW, I run Windows 7 Home Premium.

The Status Bar is not likely to return. You can install the following add-on to get some of the former Status Bar functions back. The Add-on Bar must be turned on. The add-on will also stop the showing of the "tooltip" type status loading text and the link hover, and will, instead, show it in the Add-on Bar:
    *Status-4-Evar: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/status-4-evar/
    *After install and restart:
**Open Customze window (Firefox button > Options > Toolbar Layout '''''OR''''' View > Toolbars > Customize '''''OR''''' ALT+V+T+C '''''OR'''''right-click in the empty space at the end of the Tab Bar and choose Customize)
**'''While Customize window is open''', drag "Status Text", "Progress Meter", and "Download Status" from the Customize window to the Add-on Bar in the order and position you want them to appear. Then click "Done" button at lower right on the Customize window.

  • Can an AppleScript prevent [Send] from sending a message?

I want to keep myself from sending messages unless they meet certain criteria. Ideally, I would like an AppleScript to fire whenever I click the [Send] button. The script would examine the message, and then either allow it to be sent if it passes the criteria, or cancel the send request and display an error message, if it doesn't. In the latter case, my intent would be to fix the problem, and re-click the [Send] button.
Any ideas how to do this?
    TIA,
    Mark
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

What you would need to do would be:
    1. Control-click on the 'Send' icon and choose 'remove' (you can still send a message with Control-shift-D of from the 'Message' menu and you can restore the ikon by control-clicking in the toolbar of a new message).
    2. Write an Applescript to evaluate and send. Save it as a script, not an application, in (username)>Library>Scripts>Mail scripts. It will be accessible from the Mail scripts menu (the icon) and you should be able to assign a keystroke to it in System Preferences>Keyboard and Mouse>Keyboard shortcuts.
The Applescript would take the form
if (message complies with conditions) then
    (send the message)
    else
(beep, or 'say "Cannot send"', or some indicator).
I can't tell you how to frame the script: there is a 'send' command but I couldn't persuade it to send a message. You could look for an Applescript forum.

  • Windows update prevents me from upgrading to Windows 10

From what I understand, I won't be able to get the Windows 10 upgrade without downloading all the past Windows updates first.  The problem I'm having is, whenever I do, my computer reboots to nothing but black screen with flickering cursor, which causes me to do a hard reboot and then a system restore.  I've had this issue for months with windows update and haven't been running them, but now,  it seems if I want Windows 10, I don't have a choice.  Please help!

Additionally, I tried the official Media Creation tool that I downloaded from Microsoft but that just tells me "Something Happened" Installation halted.

  • Every time I add a page to my documents, my buttons reset. How can I prevent this from happening?

I am using InDesign CS5. I have a very large document (698 pages) that has several buttons saved on each page.
I used the automated Table of Contents feature to create all of the destinations. Using the buttons dialog box, I select the specific page the document needs to go to.
I need to add pages to this document, but every time I add a page, all of the bookmarks default to the very first link in the list. How can I get prevent this from happening?
If I can't stop this from happening because I used the TOC feature to create the destinations, how can I quickly and easily move forward to add pages to the document. These pages will be inserted throughout the document.
    Thank you.

    Put on shoe.
Take one shoe-lace in each hand.
    Lay them across each other.
Then place one of them under the first.
You now have the first fasting.
To make the loops, again take each shoe-lace in each hand.
Fold one of them double into a loop and hold the loop with the other hand.
Take the second shoe-lace and fold it around the loop and insert the second loop in the space you just created under the first loop.
Fasten the loops by dragging them in opposite directions.
How did I do? Clear enough? (English is not my first language by the way).

  • I have an Apple MacBook Pro and when surfing the web my computer will slow to a crawl and I will have a multi-colored spinning wheel visible until my latest request is handled.  What is causing this and is there a way to prevent this from occuring

I have a MacBook Pro.  When surfing the web it will eventually slow to a crawl.  When this occurs, there will be a small multi-colored wheel spinning until my latest command is handled.  What is causing this and is there a way that I can modify or prevent this from happening?  Is there a setting that will prevent this?

When you next have the problem, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Scroll back in the log to the time you noted above. Select any messages timestamped from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

  • How do I prevent users from being able to update Firmware

I have several users (14) with iPad 2 and they rely on an in-house developed App. we have yet to test this App on iOS 5.1 and therefore want to avoid any of the users updating the iPads at all cost!
this question is in two parts:
How can I prevent users from upgrading firmware themselves short of just asking nicely?
How can I stop the iPad from automatically downloading the Upgrade when I deploy a Policy using the iPhone Configuration Utility?
    Any advice would be great!

We've been looking at the AirWatch mdm and have been told it has this capability.  Not sure if it would be justified from an economic standpoint for you, however.
