Can movie purchases/rentals be disabled?

I have never bought or rented movies or tv shows, but today for the first time ever I accidentally purchasesd a move (Broken City). I had never tried to buy or rent before but just always assumed that it would ask for confirmation before charging my account, but I accidentally pressed the BUY button and there was no configuration of any kind. This is scary and could lead to a large bill. Is there any way to disable this feature on the AppleTV 2? Thanks for your help.

I think I found my own answer. Under "Parental Controls" you can set Purchases & Rentals to Allow, Hide, or Ask. I previously have used Parental Controls to hide applicaitons (this does not require setting a passcode) but had never noticed this options before, which does require a passcode. I have set it but am afraid to try it because I don't want to be charged for a movie if it doesn't work. Does anybody use this setting and know if it works? I do know that the Hide option hides the movies icon entirely so that you can't even preview; I want tob e able to preview but not buy or rent.
Yes, it should work but why not test it yourself?
There is ususally a confirmtion screen that you can exit if it fails.
Personally however I think the best thing to do is not allow AppleTV to remember your itunes password in the first place - then even if parental controls was to fail and you selected to rent, no one who did not know the password could do so.

This is a confusing statement. Can really move the rental between devices or not???

If you originally downloaded it to a computer, yes. If you originally downloaded it to an iOS device, probably not; if you want to try anyway, use the Transfer Purchases function in iTunes.

how can i transfer rental movies from my Ipad to my iTunes library before updating ?

    According to http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1415 :
You can move the rental between devices as many times as you wish during the rental period. However, the movie can only be played on one device at a time. If you rent a movie or TV show on an iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Apple TV, it is not transferable to any other device and you must watch it on that device.
So I assume that you cannot use File > Transfer Purchases to copy them to your computer (though there is no harm in trying)

Can movies purchased from apple on my Apple TV be viewed on my ipad?

    Purchases, yes. Rentals, no.

  • TS3623 I rented a movie and can watch preview perfectly with video and audio feed as signal strength is at top when I checked. However, when I purchased rental video is fine , but I get scratched sound for audio. Any thoughts to fix?

I rented a movie and can watch preview perfectly with video and audio feed as signal strength is at highest when I checked. However, when I purchased rental video is fine , but I get scratched sound for audio. Any thoughts to fix? I rented movie within week and it worked. All previews of movies and show also works.

I have a suspicion that the problem is not in the recording device itelf, but rather in the playback-software, which is struggling with an unfamiliar audio format/codec/whatever-it's-called... I opened the file in QuickTime Player 7 (7.6.6) and selected "Show Movie Properties" and it says:
    "Video Track: H.264
    Sound Track: Integer (Little Endian)"
All current Mac systems support Integer (both Big and Little Endian) audio natively. The fact you can hear anything at all proves that the audio is playing back. The most likely problem would be a malfunction associated with the mic pickup.

  • Can I filter movies for rentals only?

Is it possible in iTunes store to filter so I see ONLY RENTAL movies?
I almost NEVER buy movies.  I might buy one for every 100 movies I watch.  I watch a LOT of movies, on Netflix, Amazon and other sites.  I would like to rent at Apple Store more often, however I find it a huge waste of time to browse the Apple Store for movies because most of the time I see a movie I'd like to rent, I click on it to find I can only purchase it.
So I almost never look for movies in the Apple Store...
If I could browse ONLY rentals, I would, and - assuming there are some I'd like to rent - I would rent movies from Apple.
If someone knows a way or if Apple reads this, it would be helpful and bring me back to the Apple store for movies
    Mark

    No.
You only get one download of movies.
    Sorry.

    Hi  I am Del
I am trying to rent a movie on my Apple tv keep getting the message - verification required before you can make purchases you must go to the itunes store on your computer and verify your payment information
    Thanks

Have you paired your Apple Tv with your iTunes account?  That's how rentals and purchases are billed.  If, however, you have already done that it is possible that there is a glitch in the system.  I've had that happen occasionally and it usually goes away if I reset Apple Tv.  On one occasion that I didn't work so I had to go to iTunes and deauthorize and then authorize this computer.  Also, check to see if your Home Sharing is on (under File in iTunes).  Hope that helps.

  • HT1657 Once you have watched a rented movie can you purchase it?

I don't think this is possible at the moment, but once you have watched a rented movie, can you purchase that movie less the rental cost if it's still on your hard drive?
If it were possible Apple would probably sell more movies.

    No discount is available.

I have been using one apple ID for my family as it makes it easier to manage itunes purchases/rentals on all of our devices.  Now that my kids are getting old and my wife has recently purchased an Iphone, I can see that I need to change my strategy. I plan to add a few more iphones to the family very soon.  What is your recommendation to manage all of our devices (iphones, itouch, apple tv) for my family?  Can I continue to function with one apple ID or is it time to take the leep into attempting to manage multi-apple ID's?

There's a few ways of managing multiple devices on a single computer (and keeping seperate content on each). The following document is worth checking through:

  • How can I play an HD movie purchased from Itunes  on my TV using HDMI connection?

I would like to know how i can play movies purchased in Itunes on my TV using the HDMI cable?   When I try playing HD movies from Itunes I can't play them.  I get the following error:
"To play in HD, you must have a computer with a built in display or have it connected to a display that supports HDCP".
I used to be able to play them before but not anymore.  Not sure why.  Maybe it's due to the new update.  Is there a fix?
    Thanks,

Ok, best to contact itunes then so they can look into it

  • HT3819 Home Share issue: I have a Mac and Apple TV. Both are log into the same Wifi network and the same iTunes account (I can view purchased movies on AppleTV). Home Sharing shows 'ON' for both devices. BUT...AppleTV shows no computers. Itunes sidebar-no

Has anyone else found solution to Apple devices not 'seeing' each other on Home Share?  I have a Macbook Air (new Nov'12) and Apple TV (new Dec'12). Software updated on both. Both are logged into the same Wifi network and the same iTunes account (I can view movies purchased from iTunes on my AppleTV). Home Sharing shows 'ON' for both devices. BUT...AppleTV shows no computers... and ... Itunes sidebar does not have a 'Shared' area at all.  Help please as without this functionality, my Apple TV only provides portal to purchased (i.e. Netflix,...) content which I can get from Wii or Xbox.
I have already tried the following without success:
    1. Homeshare DID work the first day after I setup Apple TV... but the next day it has not worked since then.
    2. Powered off 30 sec then re-started (Apple TV & Macbook & iTunes login)
    3. Checked Firewall settings per Home Sharing troubleshooting guide (correct settings)
    4. Turning on Photostream in iPhoto and selecting iPhoto within iTunes and then checking to see if Photostream shows anything on AppleTV (it shows 'on' for my iTunes account but 'Zero' pictures found ... despite the >3,000 pictures showing avail in iTunes).
I also have 'Remote" app on my iPhone 4, with Home Sharing turned on (same Wifi network)... it has a very similar message as the Apple TV and same result that despite all devices having HomeShare 'on' they cannot see each other:  "Remote will automatically find the iTunes libraries and Apple TVs that have Home Sharing turned on using the account xxxx (it lists my correct itunes account name)."

I solved this by reset of the Wifi (unplug cable and power to both modem and wifi ... wait 60 sec ... plug in modem cable and power ... plug in wifi power and LAN to modem ... restart AppleTV and Mac ... Turn Home Share 'OFF' in iTunes then back "ON" ... it took ~60 sec for the AppleTV to pick up my Mac in computers.

  • Suddenly, I can't move purchased music to my Nano!!!

I have been using my Nano v1.0 with iTunes 6.02 and updating with no problem. The other day I udpated the Nano to 1.1. For the longest time after that, whenever I attached the Nano, iTunes would crash.
I've since remobved iTunes and reinstalled the earlier version of it, 5.0 and removed the Nano and reinstalled it using the original software, version 1.0 (5.9?).
Now iTunes doesn't crash and I can move my music to the Nano that I have in my library, that I DID NOT buy from iTunes. It will not recognize anything I've purchased from the iTunes site.
In essence, my version of iTunes doesn't recognize my Nano anymore as the match for purchased music.
I've tried everything, installing, upgrading, un installing and downgrading. i took the Nano to the store and it works fine as an orphan with their system.
What do I do??? I am going on vacation and want to take the music I bought.
    Please help me.
    Thanks,
    Dickkalt

I have a similar problem. I have a Windows PC with iTunes and purchased some music from the iTunes store. The music appears and plays on iTunes but, even after synching (and doing a complete iPod restore) it does not appear on my iPod (Touch).
