Can MS Excel standalone access SAP BW

Dear Experts, Is there a way to connect MS Excel to SAP BW to access InfoCubes and/or DSO's to access data?
I'm not talking about BEx here. Is there a ay to connect a standalone MS Excel to SAP BW so that InfoCube can be accessed?

You can access an Infocube directly as a pivot table to access the data... not sure about DSos here though...

  • Can we connect and access SAP database using db adapter?

    Hi,
    I need couple of details:
    1) Can we connect to SAP database using db adapter and run select query to extract data from the SAP database tables?
    2) Where can I download SAP adapter? How to install it? and how to plug that in to the JDev?
    Cheers

    1) Can we connect to SAP database using db adapter and run select query to extract data from the SAP database tables? It is possible as long as back-end DB version of SAP are supported by DB adapter. Oracle recommends SAP connectivity through Oracle Application Adapter for SAP rather than direct connection to SAP Database tables.

  • JMS: can I access SAP messages from extenal Java

    - Can I access SAP Messages from an external (non-SAP) java program?
    - Do I use JNDI or can I call using a jar file from my java invocation?
    - Do I have to define a queue (or does SAP JMS have queues)
    - What port do I use?
    Thanks

    Hi John,
    > - Can I access SAP Messages from an external
    > (non-SAP) java program?
    >
    Yes, you can use the JMS provider on the Web AS from a standalone java program.
    > - Do I use JNDI or can I call using a jar file from
    > my java invocation?
    You connect your remote java client to the server by getting an InitialContext. The you lookup the JMS resources (such as Topic- or Queue ConnectionFactory, etc.) from the JNDI. You can have a look at <a href="http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/25/bf8f44540c469abc19fb6ac3ac7885/frameset.htm">this</a> page for more info.
    >
    > - Do I have to define a queue (or does SAP JMS have
    > queues)
    >
    The JMS Provider on the Web AS provides default connection factories that you can use to create a topic ot queue. The lookup strings you have to use are
    jmsfactory/default/TopicConnectionFactory
    for topics and
    jmsfactory/default/QueueConnectionFactory
    for queues.
    > - What port do I use?
    >
    You use the P4 port (50004 by default for instance number 00) when obtaining the InitialContext with this code:
    java.util.Properties properties = new Properties();
    // set the properties of the connection
    properties.put("Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY", "com.sap.engine.services.jndi.InitialContextFactoryImpl");
    properties.put(Context.PROVIDER_URL, "<Server_Host>:<p4_port>");
    properties.put("Context.SECURITY_PRINCIPAL", "Administrator");
    properties.put("Context SECURITY_CREDENTIALS", "admin_password");
    // start initial context with the properties specified
    InitialContext context = new InitialContext(properties);
    Hope that helps!

  • Can't get Speech.X32 to access SAPI 5.4 on a 64-bit Windows 7 machine.

    I can't seem to get the Speech.X32 to work in a Director 10.1 projector or in Shockwave on a 64-bit Windows 7 machine. It works fine on XP and Windows 7 32 bit, but not on Windows 7 64 bit. I placed the following script in first frame of movie. On all machines it says it is available.
    on beginsprite
        if voiceInitialize() then
    alert "Text-to-speech is available"
        else
            alert "Text-to-speech is not available"
        end if
    end
    However, I imagine this is just referring to the Xtra, not to the Microsoft SAPI. I can go into the accessibility features of the Windows 7 64-bit machine and use the voice. It just won't work in my projector or shockwavae movies. I have seen a number of discussions from gamers about loosing access to the voice option on Windows 7 64 bit machines. But none seemed to offer any solution. Any ideas?
    Regards,
    Rod Wolford

    Yes, we currently run it on a Dell Precision Rackmounted 64 Bit system and capabilities are fine.

  • Excel form of SAP-BW reports sending via mail as an attachment

    Hi Friends,
    I want to take your opinion about a scenario....
    We access SAP-BW reports in Enterprise portal, there the user can export the report to excel.
    I wish to know if it is possible that the excel form of this report could automatically be sent as an attachment via mail to the outlook accounts of users on a daily basis. Please let me know how.
    Regards,
    Amit Srivastava

    Hi,
    1st you need to congigure the Precalculation server.Inform BASIS people to do that. After that you can check in RSPRECADMIN T-code. There you can see how many servers are there in active(green light). Save your query as workbook and then distribute that workbook from tools menu. -->it will open it in new window. there you can create new setting and then provide Email-ids in 1st tab, and provide subject line and message in 2nd tab, And finally provide variables in 3rd tab. Finnaly save it and Schedule in background by providing date & time. you can use periodic also.

    Hi Tracy,
    Have you changed something on your SharePoint 2007 environment recently before this issue occurred?
    This issue may be related to Alternate Access Mappings settings like the following similar post, if you have configured AAM, you can check if this issue happened to some URLs, if it's the case, please add the problematic URLs as a Publish URLs for the default
    zone for your web application, and also add these URLs as trusted locations, then check results again.
    If above doesn't work, please enable ULS log on verbose level to get more useful log errors which time are corresponding to the errors occur.

  • External Data Refresh failed - Unable to refresh list data in Excel Web Access WebPart

    Hi,

    Hi,
    For your issue, the possible reason is that the SharePoint environment does not have a PowerPivot for SharePoint server, or the SQL Server Analysis Services (PowerPivot) service is stopped.
    Install PowerPivot for SharePoint or move the PowerPivot workbook to a SharePoint environment that has PowerPivot for SharePoint installed.
    If the software is installed, verify that the SQL Server Analysis Services (PowerPivot) instance is running. Check Manage services on server in Central Administration. Also check the Services console application in Administrative Tools.

  • Excel web access web part Refresh

    Dear All,
    Please let me adress my SharePoint issues to you.
    Current situation:
    I currently have an excel file stored in one of my sharepoint libraries.
    The excel file has two tabs.
    The first tab contains data exported from a sharepoint list (with data connection)
    The second tab has a customized table based on the first tab.
    I created a page and added a Excel Web Access web part. The above mentioned excel file (tab2) is viewed in this web part.
    Problem:
    Everytime I change something in my sharepoint list, the changes will not be viewed in the web part. The changes will only view when I open the excel file in the library first, and then save it.
    Question:
    Is there a way I can refresh the data automatically, or manually without having to leave the page of the web part?
    If anyone has a solution please let me know, thank you for your help!
    Bob

    you can configure automatic data refresh.  fairly simple.  this article is for SQL data source, but the same process applies across the board.

  • Excel Automation with Interop - Windows Service - Microsoft Excel cannot access the file

    I have a windows console application, which automates Excel. In our scenario the application gets called from a Windows Service. If the console app is executed directly everything works fine. If the console app is executed through the Win Service, we get
    the following error when trying to open the excel file:
    Unhandled exception Occured : 'Microsoft Excel cannot access the file 'bla.xls'. There are several possible reasons:
    The file name or path does not exist.
    The file is being used by another program.
    The workbook you are trying to save has the same name as a currently open workbook.'.'
    The code snippet used to open the file:
    xlApp = new Application();xlApp.Visible = false;xlApp.UserControl = false;xlApp.Application.ScreenUpdating = false;xlApp.DisplayAlerts = false;xlWorkbook = xlApp.Workbooks.Open( Filename: filePath,  UpdateLinks: 2,  IgnoreReadOnlyRecommended: true, Editable: false);
    The console app and windows service are running on a Win Server 2008 64-bit OS with Excel 2013 32-bit installed. The service is running with a special user account, which has all the right permissions on accessed files and folders. The excel process is also
    started with the same account (I cheched that one).
    I already tried to do the following, but to no avail:
    Run excel.exe /automation -> worked fine
    Created the folders and also gave full control to the account under which the service is run (even gave full control to Everyone)
    C:\Windows\SysWOW64\config\systemprofile\Desktop
    C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\Desktop
    Configured DCOM
    Excel Application -> Identity -> Specific user account
    Excel Application -> Identity -> Interactive User
    Excel Application -> Security -> Launch permissions -> Everyone full control
    Several combinations of the above
    So I really am stuck with this problem right now. Any input on this is appreciated.

    I have a windows console application, which automates Excel. In our scenario the application gets called from a Windows Service. If the console app is executed directly everything works fine. If the console app is executed through the Win Service, we get
    the following error when trying to open the excel file
    Microsoft does not currently recommend, and does not support, Automation of Microsoft Office applications from any unattended, non-interactive client application or component (including ASP, ASP.NET, DCOM, and NT Services), because Office
    may exhibit unstable behavior and/or deadlock when Office is run in this environment.
    If you are building a solution that runs in a server-side context, you should try to use components that have been made safe for unattended execution. Or, you should try to find alternatives that allow at least part of the code to run client-side.
    If you use an Office application from a server-side solution, the application will lack many of the necessary capabilities to run successfully. Additionally, you will be taking risks with the stability of your overall solution.
    You can read more about that in the
    Considerations for server-side Automation of Office article.

    Hi Alan,
    O365 SharePoint is hosted on the Microsoft cloud, we cannot check what may cause Excel oData query/refresh very slow, I would recommend you post this issue in our dedicated O365 forum for a better assistance. If the issue is related to O365 SharePoint

  • Error while opening excel integration with sap

    Hi
    While view planning with excel integration in SAP, I am getting error. I am getting this error in CCA and COPA also.
    Can anybody help me how to resolve the issue. Please see the meessage
    Error while opening document
    Message no. SOFFICEINTEGRATION143
    Diagnosis
    An error occurred in the desktop application while opening a document.
    Procedure
    Check first whether you can insert a document from this desktop application as an embedded object in another application. The necessary menu item is usually 'Insert --> Object'. The application then lists all of the OLE document types. Choose the type corresponding to the desktop applciation. If the insertion fails, the error is in the desktop application itself.
    This error has various causes. Often, it is caused by activating certain add-ins. Sometimes, the desktop application is wrongly installed. The error should not recur once you have disabled any add-ins or reinstalled the desktop application.
    Procedure for System Administration
    If you cannot solve the problem as described above, enter a problem message. There are notes relating to how to generate the log file using the program SAPROFFICEINTEGRATIONTRACE.

  • Office 2010 & 2007 - Excel and Access File Locking Out On the Network With Multiple Users

    This is also posted in the Office 2010 - IT Pro General Discussions, but was suggested to repost here, since a definitive answer was not found.
    Hi,
    An issue that's happening is that Excel and Access files are locking on the network. We're currently using Office 2007 and 2010.
    Here are some different scenarios that are happening:
    When opening the file it is locked out by “User X” which is the person that has the file locked out and no one else can open the file.
    When opening the file it is locked out by “User Y” which is NOT the actual person, but is locked out by “User X” and no one else can access the file.
    When opening the file  it is locked out by “…another user” which is generic and no one else can access the file.
    The two more common events are incident 1 and 2 with 3 happening the less common.
    This message will continue until the sessions are closed through computer management on the file server.
    The file server is running Windows Server 2003.
    This does happen on both Windows XP and Windows 7 clients.
    This does happen for users using Office 2007 and Office 2010.
    There are two sets of Office 2010 Users when it comes to patches. Everyone has the most current patches with Office 2010 SP2 while anyone that has Microsoft Project 2010 is using all the current update before Office 2010 SP2.
    All users that are using Office 2007 have all the current patches and service packs.
    Another variable is that we have users that will leave a file open on the network for 3+ days and after a while it will lock the file out.
    Also we have Shadow Copy that runs daily on the system which I'm not for sure if that impacts anything if a file is opening during that time.
    Any ideas on how to mitigate the lock out issues would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Binary Process
    Edit November 12, 2013: This issue can occur if and if not another person actually has the file open. If the person doesn't have the file open then there is a hung connection which needs to be disconnected by going to the Computer Management of the File
    server.

    Hi Binary,
    I know that the description of the hotfix does not relate to the issue. The purpose is to install it for upgrading SMB related file.
    A similar issue I encountered before:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/b7fcc59b-52d9-4a02-863a-1a529bcb8cb1/temp-doc-etc-files-dont-close-after-a-file-closes-this-causes-locked-files?forum=winserverfiles
    It is resolved by upgrading SMB files so maybe it will help on your case.
    Another hotfix which may related:
