Can my chipset cause crashes?

ok, for almost a month now i have been trying to get my computer to stop crashing, and im down to 3 things...the mobo, the chip, or my case(lol). I used to have 2 sticks of 2700, a ti4200, 160gb westerndigital, a cheap 400w powersupply. I have the k8t Neo(non-platnium), and a AMD64 3000+. I still have the same board, chip and harddrive, but i formatted and installed xp pro, put in a new 512 stick of 3200, a new power supply, and a 9700 pro. For a while i was getting physical mem dumps about every 5 min, now it just restarts, sometimes 5 min, sometimes after an hour. I have just formatted so i don't think its virus related, and i know the vid card is good. Now when i open halflife(through steam) my monitor goes out and says out of frequency. This also puzzles me because i was playing dod last night for about an hour, i turn it on this morning and boom, a new problem to confuse me. The power supply im useing is not BRAND new but it is fairly new. One of my friends said it could be the voltage coming into my wall outlet, but i doubt that too. Any help is appreciated.  ~kurt~

Hi Kurt
Welcome.
Indiscriminate freeses and BSODS, or mem dumps, can be signs of a struggling PSU. 350W is not a lot for this rig. The most important component in the whole setup is the PSU.
What are the amp ratings on 3.3v, the +5v, and the +12v.  The +12v runs most of comp, and with your vid card, you should have around 24amps on the +12v.  don't buy cheapo PSUs, they are not up to job, and will cost you your comp when it blows.
cheers
jocko

  • Photoshop CS4 and graphic cards. Can cause crashing?

Since upgrading to CS4 I seem to have increased crashing.
    Here are my system specs.
    Mac 2 x 2.66 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon
    9 GB of Ram
250 GB internal dedicated scratch disc
NVDIA GeForce 7300 GT with 256 VRAM
After having endless techs look at my machine and upgrading everything. I am beginning to suspect the graphics card.
With OpenGL can a underperforming video card cause crashing in photoshop especially with massive file sizes ( multilayered CMYK poster sized files the can exceed 7 GB)?

Did you install the 11.0.1 update?
Is your OS up to date with patches?
Have you tried disabling OpenGL in preferences to avoid using the GPU/Graphics card?

  • Tecra M3 video drivers causing crashes

My Toshiba Tecra M3 is crashing (freezing or blue screen of death) with drivers 71.14, 71.36, and 76.44. It uses an NVIDIA GeForce Go 6600 TE 128M. When I uninstall all video drivers (or boot into safe mode), the laptop runs fine, although of course scrolling is deadly slow and I can't suspend or hibernate. But when I install either of the two WHQL certified drivers from Toshiba's site, 71.44 or 71.36, I can consistently create a crash just by running a 3D screensaver for more than 3 minutes. The same thing happens with the 76.44 non-WHQL driver from laptopvideo2go.com.
Sorry if this is not the best thread to post on, but I would desperately appreciate any help you can offer on what driver might work reliably. At this point, I'm not at all interested in great graphics performance; I just want a stable laptop to do some work on. Is there perhaps some setting within the driver to turn off whatever fancy features are causing the crash?
The laptop has a 2.13 GHz Pentium M and 2 GB of RAM. It's running WinXP SP2 with all updates and is using BIOS 1.20, the latest. And I doubt it's a related, but here's a different problem I ran into with the VPN, Wi-Fi, and Matlab.
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

    Hi danhkon
I suppose that your notebook worked properly at the beginning. Can you maybe remember since when the unit started to make these troubles to you? It is not easy to give you a proper opinion or any kind of solution because every problem is caused by some reason.
First of all I want to say that you should use just display driver given by Toshiba and not some driver that you found on the net. The drivers that you got on Tools & utilities CD or drivers that you can find on Toshiba site are all tested and they should work properly. As far as I know Tecra M3 is a new model and also delivered with SP2. That means that all drivers are also tested to work properly with SP2.
Before you spend lot of times searching the right solution you should, in my opinion, save your data and reinstall OS using Recovery CD. On this way you will have a stable laptop to do some work on it. If there is no second partition you can make it for data saving using expert mode installation.

  • USB EHCI chipsets causing Windows 7 x64 failures in Pavilion

I use Acronis TIH 2012 to backup the primary and logical partitions on my pavilion g6 notebook, currently running windows 7 x64 with 8Gb RAM.  I have a problem on this particular notebook, it looks like a hardware compatibility issue, and this query is about the USB hardware of the notebook compared to other pavilion machines. The problemI can successfully backup the primary partition (C: drive) of the internal SATA HDD to a separate logical drive on that internal HDD, but when I try to backup the C: drive to an external USB3 drive the backup starts, creates two 4.7Gb files (out of a usual 6 files in the set) on the external drive  and then fails.  Fails HARD - usually I need to completely remove power (mostly by removing the battery) and do a cold boot to get control back.  The failure seems to occur when the software thinks the usb drive has disconnected. The softwareThe TIH application is a 32bit item that works fine on a 32bit windows 7 platform (desktop and laptop) both using external usb3 drives as the target.  Those machines however only only 4gb RAM installed. Other software - eg windows explorer and demanding video editing programs - work fine using data on the external usb drive. Pavilion hardwareA member (joey) on the Acronis forum has reported a case where a specific combination - windows 7 x64, more than 4Gb RAM and the nvidia EHCI chipset - caused his Pavilion a6403 system to malfunction using an external usb3 drive with this combination. Microsoft issued a specific hotfix for this - see the Kb article here https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/976972which Joey reports as correcting the problem. The questionMy notebook and Joey's are members of the HP pavilion family.  Both use the same windows 7 x64 OS, and have more than 4Gb RAM.  Does my g6-2002 use the same nvidia EHCI usb controller chipsets as the a6403?  In short, could his problem and mine be the same one? Thanks, Davidk10

    Those few need extra drivers.
As they are USB3.0 ports: http://eu.msi.com/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=driver&maincat_no=1&prod_no=2025
Yea as I stated earlier, after installing these drivers all the usb ports stopped working in the current windows 7 install.

  • IAccessible on Windows 8.1 and uiautomation reference leaks causing crashes in our applications.

We have started crashing on Windows 8.1 and I have traced the problem to uiautomation.dll and combase.dll. The root cause of the problem is reference counting. It appears that on Windows 8.1 uiautomation is using keyboard hooks and other means to constantly
query for interfaces leading to reference leaks on UI objects. We use MFC and have code that has relied on reference couting to to lead to calls to DestroyWindow. However on Windows 8.1, in cases where we expect, and historically have had, the window get destroyed,
we have windows now hanging around due to elevated reference counts. I can set breaks in the MFC oleunk.cpp and monitor the reference count going up in CCmdTarget::ExternalAddRef for say, a command bar (menu) and after constantly clicking the menu, the reference
count just keeps increasing and increasing. I can quite quickly cause the reference count to zoom into the hundreds. We started getting reports of crashes on Windows 8.1 from customers and at first I didn't duplicate the issue. Then my Windows 8.1 box rebooted
on me (that's another issue as it did so on its own even though I said to defer the restart and I lost data thanks to that nasty Win 8 feature) and after updates installed, I could easily duplicate the crash.
The version now installed for uiautomation is "7.2.9600.17415 (winblue_r4.141028-1500)" and "6.3.9600.17415 (winblue_r4.141028-1500)" as seen from the Visual Studio debugger's modules window. I do see some release calls coming from
a function named "AccessibleObjectFromWindowTimeOut" and wonder what the "TimeOut" implies. That is because the easiest way for a user to crash our app on Windows 8.1 is to use GoToMeeting on Windows 8.1 and invite a participant to take
control of the application. I can also crash on Windows 8.1 simply by setting various break points and trace points to print messages as I track what is going on. That is, the crashes appear to be dependent on some sort of race condition and the debugger interferes
with the proper functioning of whatever is occurring inside uiautomation and combase. I have never seen the debugger "interfere" with a process in this way. I can run the same app and perform the same tasks on Windows 7 and these calls that cause
the ref count to constantly increase simply are not made (and combase.dll doesn't get injected into our process on Windows 7). I think Microsoft needs to look into what they are doing on Windows 8 and start releasing interfaces they are leaking when obtaining
the IAccessible interface from windows that implement it.
    R.D. Holland

A dump file doesn't show the cause of the crash - an ever increasing reference count. I changed an implementation of OnGetObject (MFC API) and and didn't return the IAccessible interface and the reference count remained the same on Windows 8.1 as it does
on Windows 7. I did that after tracing the ever increasing reference count to calls to get IAccessible coming from those MS DLLs. Eventually I made sure we destroy the window when we think it should be destroyed instead of relying on the MFC reference counting
mechanism. We have testing code that relies on UI automation so just refusing to give out IAccessible isn't an option as I don't know the context of the request.

  • After updateting to 9.3 specific files causing crash when print starts

After updating to 9.3 some files, not all, are no more possible to print without crashing acrobat.
One example you can find here:
    http//europe/giga-byte.com/FileList/Manual/motherboard_manual_ga_ep45_ds3(r)_de.pdf
    Error:
    arobat.exe 9.3.0.148 with modul ssgs1.dll version 03.0.0 at address 0x00012ea9
(ssgs1 belongs to Samsung printer ML1210)
With 9.2, one week ago, there was no problem.
If I start printing the copmplete file(a couple of pages) the printer starts printing and prints the whole file, but after a couple of seconds acrobat crashes.
Theb print will NOT be stopped, the file will be printed cpompletly with ALL pages.
If I try to print separate and single pages, the FIRST page can be printed without crash.
Any other page will crash acrobat immediatly.
I sepate this error page (take out 1 page) to get a separate pdf file will cause the same problem.
If I copy this page to Word and then save from there as pdf - no error.
Print "as picture" also no problem.
Export to pdf/A (whatever this is) will cause the same problem
Save as ...pdf - same problem
    Save as optimized -same problem
Software: "Advanced pdf Repair" will not repair this
This problem was not be be seen with elder version 9.2 last week
This does not happen with  ALL pdf files
    System: XP SP3
    Action taken:
    Repair acrobat
    Reinstall printer driver

I had to rebuild the thumbnails after the first try, and so on the second try, it cleared up the distortion.  However, the photos then had the rotation and out of sequence issue.  I certainly can try again.  You previously mentioned that it make a few times.
As for the view, they are sorted by date.  It is really strange since it is only the photos at the very beginining.  These are photos where I had to manually enter the date when adding them to the libary.  I wonder if that has anything to do with.
I really appreciate your time and advice.  This is pretty unusual for me.  I have been using macs since 2004 and never has a software upgrade thrown me for such a loop.
    Thanks again.

    HI,
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/googletalkbrowserplugin.plugin/Contents/MacOS/googletalkbrowserplugin
Open a Finder window. Select MacintoshHD in the Sidebar on the left. Open the Library folder then the Internet Plug-Ins folder.
Move these files to the Desktop: googletalkbrowserplugin.plugin/Contents/MacOS/googletalkbrowserplugin
    Relaunch Safari.
If it doesn't crash again, the move those files to the Trash as the Google plug-in may not be compatible with the latest version of Safari.
Nothing in the crash report points to your iPhoto library.
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=12247360#12247360
It could be the Google plug-in causing the problems all along.

  • HT5704 Hi, Two recent updates for my iPhone have caused crashes (down the white lead via iTunes).I have "fixed" but not sure of the cause?

    Hi,
Two recent updates for my iPhone have caused crashes (down the white lead) via iTunes.
I have "fixed" but I don't know the cause?
Each time the update does n't complete.
    The download does n't happen.
The computer & internet connection are good.
It is as if the Apple server does n't complete?
The phone stays in recovery mode, until you reset and rebuild in iTunes.
All software is up to date, but I can't find the cause
    ANY IDEAS?
    Regards,
    P.
    <Email Edited by Host>

    No error messages.
It just fails to complete the download, so recovery mode is the next step.
This can be over a period of eight hours or more!
I have so many (original) Apple USB leads that I would n't know if I have been using the same one (if it was faulty).
Does this sound like a "common" problem?

  • Can Java program cause memory leak?

Can Java program cause memory leak or memory crash? I don't mean any memory overflow related exceptions. I mean something like core dump in UNIX or error reports in Windows XP.
If it can really happen, in what circumstances? I raise such a question because our J2EE based system had really caused memory leak in Windows XP systems, but so far we still fail to troubleshoot the problem.

Your code may leak memory. There are many, many, many reasons this could be. All of them represent bugs in your code.
You should get a profiler to identify the problem spots of your code.
You spoke of a memory crash as well. The VM may crash with some bug in the VM, or a bug in native code but that is not relevent to your problem. A memory leak is a problem in your code.

  • IPhone calendar appointment attachment causes crash

    Hi,
I have an iPhone 4S and recurring crash in Calendar. When I add a jpg attachment to an appointment I cannot open the attachment to view - the app crashes.
I've been able to repeat this on my wife's iPhone 4S and her iPad 3 (synced through iCloud), and I've been able to repeat with different attachments.
On my phone I can get the app to crash; sometimes I get a dialog "cannot download" or I get a blank dialog (see screenshot). I've also occasinally got a weird flickering status bar.

    Hi,
The problem fits the requirements, but the solution did not fix the problem...
I can reliably repeat the crash on two iPhones and an iPad. Interestingly on iCloud.com the appointment attachment is not shown.
This is the jpg that is causing the crash (a local sports field). Can anyone else repeat the crash on their iOS device with this file?

  • Clicked on sahari can open program! Crashes when I open

What can plug in folders caused crashing of computer!

You need to put both the Project and the Event on the external drive. The external drive must be formatted for Mac (Mac OS Extended (journaled)).
All moves or copies should be done from within iMovie. For best results, use the Consolidate Media function described at the and of the post below.
For details, see my post here.

In my experience this is most of the times a server issue of the website provider.
Does this error occur on all Websites or just one specific Website?
Does this Website load in Internet Explorer (or any other Browser?)?
