Can my connection issues be solved by a USB adapter?

I would like to link my hi-fi/mac via my airport express. The issue is there is no internet port in the room.
Is it possible to plug in a Wireless Internet USB Adapter Wifi Dongle into the airport express to negate the need for a cable connection?
If so can you recommend one?
Thanks,
Gary.

. . is there anyway of connecting the airport to the internet without a cable?
The short answer is "no".
To do what you want, it will require 2 AirPort Express devices.
The first AirPort Express would be configured to "join" the existing wireless network and the ethernet port would need to be enabled during setup.
The second would connect the first using an ethernet cable and the second device would be configured to "create a wireless network" (for up to 10 wireless devices).
It's really clunky, but it will work...I've done it in the past at hotels that only furnished a wireless connection. I wanted to connect 3-4 other wireless devices and the hotel would only allow one connection at a time to connect to the network.

    Sorry but no you can't.

  • Macbook Pro Retina (15") can't connect to wireless mouse and external USB keyboard

    Hi All,
I got my new MacBook Pro Retina (15 inch) about 3 weeks ago. It works fine. I got a 30" Dell screen that I am using via thunderbolt/usb adapter. Also, I am using a thunderbolt ethernet adapter. Both adapters work fine without any problems.
I have an apple usb keyboard connected to the USB hub of the screen, as well as my iphone cable. It is a regular, full size apple keyboard. In addition to this, I have a logitech nano connected directly to the right usb port of the macbook pro.
This setup was working well until a few days ago. I lost connectivity with my mouse. Initially, I thought the batteries are empty. After replacing them, I still had no connection (again, the usb receiver is *directly* connected to the macbook).
I changed a few cables here and there and noticed that I can get either the keyboard to work or the mouse but not both at the same time. A reboot did not help.
Did anybody encounter such a strange problem already? If so, what could I possibly do?
    Thank You,
    --Martin

    Hello nikkig00,
It is certainly difficult to use the computer if your wireless keyboard and mouse do not connect.  I found a few resources I recommend for this issue.
I recommend reviewing this article first:
Troubleshooting wireless mouse and keyboard issues
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3048
If the issue persists, I recommend reviewing the section titled "Top troubleshooting tips" in the article below.  Step 9 specifically stands out to me for the issue you described:
    9. Restart your computer
Sometimes a simple restart of your Mac is all it takes to get things running smoothly again. You may also want to try resetting your computer's PRAM and NVRAM.

  • Can't connect to a networked printer - Airlink101 USB Print Server

I am new to Mac. I am trying to connect my iMac to a Brother HL-5040 laser printer through an Airlink101 USB print server over my wireless network. The iMac connected to the 802.11g network immediately without any issues which is more than I can say for the other XP machines I own. I have several other Windows PC's networked and they all print just fine. Using the print setup utility, I can find the networked print server and add it to the printer list; however, I can not print. The status monitor indicates that it can't connect. The install directions on the Airlink101 website for the Mac does not seem to match the options that are part of the "add a printer" utilility. Any help would be appreciated.

    thlatz wrote:
When we try to add another one of the printers it finds the printer with the IP, it auto-detected the driver, then when I click next, I get an error stating there was an "error connecting to the printer would you continue anyway?"
We try to print but the queue just continuously pauses and nothing gets sent to the printer.
This could be a result of the protocol you selected. IPP is the default listed. If you remove this printer and add again, but this time change the protocol drop menu to HP Jetdirect-Socket, see if this works better for the user.

  • Can i connect ipad 3 to aprojector throught vga adapter and can i then mirror keynote presentations

can i connect my ipad 3 to aprojector throught vga adapter to mirror keynote presentations

I don't know if there is a Dock-To-VGA Adapter in the Store, but there is a Dock-To-HDMI-Adapter.
Newer projectors have an HDMI-Input-Slot. (30$ Adapter +10$ HDMI-Cable (if it doesn't exists)
    You also could buy on top a HDMI-To-VGA-Adapter (30$ Adapter1 + 30$ Adapter2 + 10$ VGA-Cable (if it doesn't exists))
An deluxe solution would be an Apple-TV
    + HDMI-Cable
    or + HDMI-To-VGA-Adapter + VGA-Cable
now you can use AirPlay by setting up an adhoc WLAN from your iPad which the Apple TV can use.
Cause I have an Apple TV, I take that with me with the adhoc WLAN setup of my iPhone.
All settings are done, so it's only a plug in at the room where to hold that presentation. Wirelessly from my iPhone Keynote-App via AirPlay to AppleTV (Mirrow or as second screen, with seeing notes and controls on my iPhone) and from Apple TV to the projector.

  • Can I connect my Sony DCRHC42?? USB not compatible, and no firewire!

I'm so frustrated - I used my Sony DCRHC42 camcorder with my old iMac and it was great - but now I find I have no way to connect it to my MacBook. The USB is not compatible and this computer doesn't have a firewire port! Is there a work around?

Ok, since both are "n"s then you have two basic choices to enable the 802.11n AirPort Express Base Station's (AXn) Ethernet port to connect to the TV: 1) Configure the AXn as a Wireless-to-Ethernet bridge (ProxySTA), or 2) Configure the AXn to extend the wireless range of the 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn).
If you don't really have a requirement to extend the wireless range of the AEBSn, I would suggest that you go with the first option: ProxySTA.
To activate ProxySTA, you must set up the Express to join a wireless network and then enable the Allow Ethernet Clients setting; both settings are located in the Wireless tab of AirPort Utility. The feature should work with any wireless network: a, b, g, or n; and 5GHz or 2.4GHz. (Note that the Express, which ships with firmware 7.3, must also be updated to firmware 7.3.1 for this feature to appear.) Configured as a ProxySTA, the AXn connects wirelessly to the AEBSn's wireless network and its Ethernet port is enabled. You can then connect a single or multiple Ethernet clients (using an Ethernet switch) to this port for network/Internet access.

  • Can we connect and access SAP database using db adapter?

    Hi,
    I need couple of details:
    1) Can we connect to SAP database using db adapter and run select query to extract data from the SAP database tables?
    2) Where can I download SAP adapter? How to install it? and how to plug that in to the JDev?
    Cheers

    1) Can we connect to SAP database using db adapter and run select query to extract data from the SAP database tables? It is possible as long as back-end DB version of SAP are supported by DB adapter. Oracle recommends SAP connectivity through Oracle Application Adapter for SAP rather than direct connection to SAP Database tables.

  • Connecting kurzweil sp88 to GB I want to connect my Kurzweil sp88 to GB. The Kurzweil has a baffling array of buttons and possible MIDI channels. It also has the old style MIDI plug ins. I've got the MIDI out connected to my MacBook Pro via USB adapter.

I have my Kurzweil connected to my MacBook Pro via an adapter (old style MIDI from Kurzweil to USB adapter connecting to Mac). The Kurzweil has a baffling array of buttons and possible MIDI channels. Can anyone please tell me which of the channels I should use? Also, should I leave the MIDI In cable out of the Kurzweil? Thanks for as detailed an answer as possible. If you like you can respond directly to me at [email protected]

First of all I do not own this keyboard. But a quick look at the manual (found on the internet) says that when first powered up the SP88 is in Internal Sounds mode. Meaning you hear the sounds selected when playing the keyboard. It also stated that the default Midi Transmit Channel is Midi Channel #1.
Looks like you would need to go to the SP88 Keyboard's MIDI SETUP and simply select LOCAL OFF. Now the keyboard should be ready to transmit Midi Out only and no internal sounds should be heard.
Next you may or may not need to do this but you might need to go into the Utilities Folder found in your Applications Folder on your Mac and double click AUDIO MIDI SETUP the keyboard Icon. Figure #1 below.
Next you need to make a physical connection from the Midi Out of the SP88 to the Midi In on your Midi Interface. Figure #3 below. You may need to Click on Add Device first. Figure #2 below.
In the examples shown below I have a Yamaha Electronic Drum Kit that is Midi Out only... not USB out. I had to plug a Midi cable from the Midi Out Port on the back of my Drum Module to the Midi In Port on the back of my Motu 828 Audio Inferface which is connected to my Mac. Next I created the Audio Interface and Drum Module "Devices" as mentioned above.
I then double clicked on the Drum Module and made my Midi Out Selections. Figure #4 Below. And once it was setup and the icons closed I used my mouse to draw a virtual cable connection from the Drum Module Out to the Audio Interface In. Figure #3 below. This is how I got my Midi Devices to talk to one another.
Once you have made your setup as I have outlined create a MIDI Instrument Track in Garageband, select an instrument for example a Piano then Record Enable that track in Garageband and see if you now hear what you are playing. In this example the SP88 is a Midi Controller only and you will only hear sounds selected in Garageband which is what you want.
Keep in midi your setup may be different than mine. You can keep your SP88 Keyboard on the default Midi Channel #1. That would be a good place to start. Garageband receives Midi on all channels.

  • Trying to connect to internet via rokair wireless usb adapter

I have a graphite clamshell ibook g3. I got it in 2000 and it did the job for me back then. it was great. In 2005 I upgraded the os to 10.3. now i would just like to be able to connect to the internet wirelessly (to linksys cisco router for comcast) to do simple things online, nothing fancy. rather than pay for an airport card (which it didnt come with) and hub, i just bought a rokair usb adapter. My ibook only has 1 usb port and its indented so the rokair people sent me a 1ft usb 2.0 wire to attach to the adapter. Ive installed the driver for os 10.3 but the computer does not recognize the usb adapter. Its still giving me as "internal modem" and "built-in ethernet" as my only options in the network folder. Is the computer not recognizing the USB 2.0? IS it even possible to upgrade this computer to acknowledge this type of USB?
    Thanks

saltyspicegirl, Welcome to the discussion area!
Your iBook has USB 1.1. That adapter appears to be backward compatible with USB 1.1 so that shouldn't be a problem.
You probably should contact their support to see if they can offer any suggestions.

  • Odd intermitent connection issues. [Solved]

I connect to my internet wirelessly. I created a netctl profile for my wireless by using wifi-menu, then added it to startup using netctl enable profilename. This works fine, apart from intermittently programs will complain that there is no connection, when there is. When I run the program again, it finds a connection. Here is an exmaple with pacman. I was downloading a file during both runs of pacman, and neither time did the download stop. Any suggestions as to what is going on?

    Try ping google.com
if this does not work, try ping 8.8.8.8 ... if this works out, maybe you have problems with the hostnames resolution. If so, try adding 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.8.4 as dns server (google). Then there is opendns that can serve you as well.

When I was first setting up (latest netinstall iso, x86_64) I was using wpa_passphrase and wpa_supplicant just fine in fetching new packages and the like. I did this about 2 weeks ago (Jan 27). • Can't connect to internet [Solved]

I'm not really sure what the problem is, I've done everything exactly as my friend has but only I have this problem.
    I do
    ifconfig eth0
    which brings up
    inet addr: 169.254.253.171
    dhcpcd eth0
    results in
    err, eth0: timed out
    warn, eth0: using IPV4LL address 169.254.253.171
I don't really know what to do, help please?
I'm pretty sure the router is configured properly.

Ok, let's see if that does anything.
Well, this is odd. It says (when I do "vi rc.conf"):
