Can my iMac be set to type with French characters?

Hello all! Can my iMac be set to type with French characters? If so, what is the path? And, is there a keyboard overlay to see where the French language characters are located on the keyboard? Thanks!

Hey Steve,
Thanks again for the thoughts... Unfortunately, the only characters that I can use keyboard shortcuts for French are the é, ç and the á (it's better than nothing).
Outside of that, I have to switch keyboard layouts. I know of the accent grave ( `e ) that's nextdoor to the number one key... But it don't work... my translator thinks it's a typo... because it takes up a whole characters worth of space instead of sharing the space with the actual letter (vowel), like the other accents.
So I need keyboard shortcuts for:
ê Ê Ë ë è È
Ô ô Ö ö
à À Û û
I use these letters just enough to make switching keyboards back and forth a little irksome. Since the two keyboards have pretty distinctively different layouts and then we have the position of the A and M keys and.. well... see where this could lead??? LOL
Thanks...
I appreciate your thoughts, as always...
Yvonne

  • Problems with French Characters in Page Title

    Here is the problem
    When using Duplicate Page and trying to set page titles with french characters (or other non standard characters for that matter such as qoutes) The resulting output does not display correctly.
    I thought a work around would be to us the HTML escape codes in the title dialog when creating the page  however it appears that Incontext then goes and attemps to escape the ampersand part of the escape code during save.
    so for instance when trying to set a page title such as Whistler Live! prépare la scène using the following escaped version
    Whistler Live! prépare la scène
    The resulting HTML saved from incontext looks like this
    Whistler Live! prépare la scène
    and the title does not display correctly.
    Incontext sees the & which is page of the HTML escape code and they automatically replaces that with &
    How the heck can we set HTML Special characters in our page titles - any ideas?

    Hi Corey
    To answer your questions I am on windows 7 IE 8 and also tried in firefox 3.6
    backend is windows 2000 / IIS 6 / Coldfusion 8
    I am able to enter the characters in the dialog box but during the save they are altered
    I created a basic test page with nothing but the following code
    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
    <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xmlns:ice="http://ns.adobe.com/incontextediting">
    <head>
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" />
    <title>test</title>
    </head>
    <body>
    <div ice:editable="*" >
      <p>Test test</p>
    </div>
    </div>
    <script src="/includes/ice/ice.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
    </body>
    </html>
    saved it as test-characters.cfm (coldfusion page) and tested it out
    problem was still there however when I save the page as a .html file and test it out the problem is no longer present
    So the problem seems to only occur when using .cfm pages (even if there is no cf code on them)
    I am going to send you a private message with access to my test pages in case your inclined to take a look
    Thanks for you help so far

  • Can I import 2 sets of photos with the same file name numbers?

    I've inadvertantly not had my camera set to "continuous" for file names and now have 2 memory cards with 2 different sets of images with the same file names.
    Can I still import both into Lightroom 2 without problems?
    What are the consequences?
    Thanks
    Stuart

    Yes. Of course, two files with the same name cannot be in the same folder. And don't forget to uncheck Don't import suspected duplicates during import.
    Another thing is that's not a good idea for good asset management, because someday you'll make some mistake because of this ambiguity. Good DAM practices suggest renaming your files after or during import, so that each files has a unique name across your entire image archive.

  • Aaple Tv and PS3, can the 2 be set up together with my tv?

    aple Tv and PS3, can the 2 be set up togethe

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
    They can both be used with your Tv. I'm not sure I fully understand what you mean by together, they can't be used at the same time, there can't be any interaction between them, but they can be installed side by side and each used as and when needed independently of each other.
    I see what you mean now.

  • Problems on selecting views with french characters into column names

    Hi All,
    I have views with column names such as "Détermination Planimétriq" or "Année de construction:*";
    I can get in my c# function this columns names from ALL_VIEWS dictionary table, but if I try to make a selectionby use of an OracleCommand, Oracle returns an "Invalid identifier" error:
    SELECT "Détermination Planimétriq" FROM mytable;
    System.Data.OracleClient.OracleException (0x80131938): ORA-00904: "Determination Planimetriq": invalid identifier at System.Data.OracleClient.OracleConnection.CheckError(OciErrorHandle errorHandle, Int32 rc) at ...
    Any suggestion?...

    Be wary of using character codes outside the Western European "simple" alphanumeric [A-Z0-9] for object names, i.e. columns, table names, function and procedure names, and so on.
    First reason, there is a 30 character limit for most object names, and characters that have to be spelled out with unicode characters take more space, i.e.:
    select dump( 'Détermination Planimétriq'  ) from dual;
    DUMP('D?TERMINATIONPLANIM?TRIQ')
    Typ=96 Len=29: 68,239,[ ... ]Although the varchar string for that column name looks like 25 characters, it needs room for 29 to store the e<acute> character. And could also depend on the client settings. Using case sensitive names is not a best practice, its better to avoid specifying objects with the double quotes.

  • Problem with French characters with updateContent

    I have this problem with Spry, (had it also with YUI a few
    months ago) with special french characters
    (éèçàù). I use encoding UTF-8, but
    iso-8859-1 isn't working either. I put some examples here:
    http://www.eventsonholiday.com/test_loadurl.asp
    As long as it is static content, no problem. But when I get
    content from a recordset from an Access database: trouble.
    In IE7 the french characters are even worse, and I get the
    error: null is empty or not an object

    I think I found a solution. I found a few resources on the
    internet that said: xmlhttprequest always sends data as utf-8 by
    default. So when all the other pages use iso-8859-1, there's a
    problem. It can be solved this way: when retrieving recordset
    fields from ASP I use
    HTMLEncoding like this:
    <%=Server.HTMLEncode(RSevents.Fields.Item("event_location").Value)%>.
    I have to do this for each field in the page, what means some extra
    work.
    For PHP it should be done with
    htmlentities
    If anyone has a solution without using the Server.HTMLEncode
    method, tell me...

  • Parse exception with french characters

    My parsing program throws a SaxParseException upon the parse of some french characters; in particular a "" character. These characters are enclosed in a CDATA tag, so I'm not sure why its being parsed. My file is encoded in UTF-8. How can resolve this problem? Thanks

    Your file is not encoded in UTF-8, although the XML
    prolog claims it is.Meaning the sender/creator of the file is at fault?
    If not UTF-8, then probably ISO-8859-1, correct?Most likely the creator of the file is at fault. But it's possible that it has been through some transformation between them and you that rewrote it in a new charset.
    Sure, the real encoding could be ISO-8859-1. Or it could be windows-1252. Other encodings are possible but unlikely, I suppose.

  • Can someone help a non-tech type with connecting AppleTV?

    I want to connect AppleTV3.  My current setup was done 6 yrs ago when I bought TV, Receiver and Speakers.  Sony TV has 3 HDMI inputs, Integra receiver has 2 HDMI inputs.  On receiver HDMI1 is from cable box, HDMI2 is Bluray, HDMI Out goes to TV HDMI1.  ATV works when I plug it in to the HDMI2 input on receiver instead of the Bluray but I don't want to have to manually switch cables around each time.  I bought a Rockport switch box from Bestbuy thinking that would give me more HDMI Inputs but couldn't get it to work.  When I plug ATV directly into TV HDMI 2 or 3 I don't get sound. I really hate to pay $100++++ to have someone come out to look at this and then tell me it can't be done.  Is there an easy fix?

    There are nev erenough HDMI inputs!
    Presumably your Integra receiver does the surround sound duties.
    Without going down the route of buying a new receiver, I would do what you have done and used either HDMI input 2 or 3 on the TV for AppleTV.
    My initial guess would be that you have Apple TV Settings for audio configured for Dolby Digital > On.
    Most TVs can only handle stereo so if you force Dolby Digital over HDMI you get no audio - however I would expect you to be able to play stereo audio/trailers fine.  If that is what you have configured turn Dolby Digital to Auto or Off and see if that gives sound on the TV.
    If that works then I would personally run an optical cable from AppleTV to an optical input on the receiver for better audio/surround audio thoiugh for Dolby Digital you may need to silence the TV and have the DD option set to On in the settings to get DD over optical (stereo goes when there is no DD).
    Also check what happens via HDMI input 1 with appleTV plugges in - you could conncet the Integra HDMI ut to inputs 2 or 3.
    You will want the Blu Ray player hooked up to the Integra.  If your cable broadcasts are stereo only you might be better off having Blu Ray and AppleTV hooked up to Integra and cable to HDMI on TV.
    Many ways to potentially do it.

  • Can Acrobat DC be set to open with Tools palette closed by default?

    I'd like to set Acrobat DC to open with the Tools palette closed. Is this possible? I checked the preferences but didn't see an option for this.

    I'd also like to have the tools palette stay closed by default. Perhaps Adobe can add this in the next update. It's a minor annoyance to have to close it every time I use the app.
    I've submitted a feature request.

  • HT1338 How can I associate (and DISassociate) file types with software?

    Whenever I click on an MP4 file, it tries to start up my KODAK software instead of something like Quicktime. How can I change that?

    The reading of double is also straight forward : just use a dble float wired to the type cast node, after inverting the string (indian conversion).
    See the attached example.
    The measure of skin thickness is based on OCT (optical coherent tomography = interferometry) : an optical fiber system send and received light emitted to/back from the skin at a few centimeter distance. A profile of skin structure is then computed from the optical signal.

  • HT1414 Can't get past set up page with new iPhone

    Just got a new iPhone from Apple store. Tried to restore from backup, but can't get past the "connect to iTunes" screen on my phone. I can see my phone in iTunes, have synched it to my computer, installed phone updates from my computer, but still can't get past the "connect to ITunes" screen. I am connected...I can't figure out what's wrong that I can't get past this screen to my home screen.

    I went into the Apple store and the guy fixed it somehow using icloud (strange since I backed up to itunes not icloud) but I'm not complaining!

  • Need help in setting file name with special characters in attachment

    Hi
    We have a requirement where we need to set the file name that contains special characters (like Russian) and send mauil using Java mail.
    If we set the file name as such, the attachment in the email contains garbled filename
    Can you pl let me know how to resolve this?
    We should use the file name as attachment name and this will have say special characters. The receiver who gets the mail should get with the correct attachment name
    One important point.. the attachments are opened from MS outlook.
    Thanks and regards

    Read the FAQ carefully. You don't need to call encodeText unless you're using a really
    old version of JavaMail.
    And, it depends on whether the mail reader you're using is handling encoded parameters
    according to the (new) MIME standard, or according to the (old) non-standard hack.
    Sadly, without knowing what mail reader the recipient is using, it's impossible to use
    encoded filenames that will work everywhere.

  • Issue with French characters and Variables combined.

    Using Captivate 4 and publishing to SWF, I discovered the behaviour shown below.
    You can see a text caption
    The text of the first line in Captivate is 'Modifier les paramètres Word - $$v_ScoreParam$$/10'
    When published the è is changed into a Chinese character.
    Is this a known issue? Or am I doing something wrong?
    Thanks for any clues.

    Hello,
    This is a known issue in Captivate 4 (there are several threads in this forum about it), and sorry, it has not been solved in CP4 but is no issue in CP5 (doesn't help you of course).
    I had quite a lot of problems with this. The only workaround is putting this variable in a separate Text Caption and try to put it in place in the other Text Caption. Personally I avoided using those variables when expecting combination characters (like é, à ü...).

  • In Apple Configurator, can I set up different sets of iPads with different apps loaded? Or will all iPads synced with Configurator be required to have the same build?

    In Apple Configurator, can I set up different sets of iPads with different apps loaded? Or will all iPads synced with Configurator be required to have the same build?

    Hi jshira86,
    You can definitely have different sets of iPads with different apps loaded. When you "supervise" your iPads, you will see that on the left side of the Configurator window there is a "+" sign in the lower left corner. Click it to create a new device group. With this new device group you can choose what apps and configuration profiles you want to install on that group of iPads. Create as many groups as you want to customize the apps and profiles you want on them.
    Hope this answers your question!
