Can My imac read mini dvd

My co worker wants me to make copys to dvd from a mini dvd.
Atleast he tells me a it is a 3inch mini dvd. anyways, so i need to find out if my imac will work with it.
I just was wondering if my slot loading superdrive would work on it.
Thanks

No, you should not use mini-sized discs in the optical drive. They can cause the mechanism to jam in which case you'll need to replace the drive.
There are external mini-disc players. It's also possible to play the disc in the machine your friend uses, connect its audio out to the computer's audio in and use recording software to record the contents to the hard drive.

After using iDVD, can my iMac burn a DVD ?
I mean how do I know whether my disk drive can write/burn DVD ?
Mine is a 24" iMac bought some 5 months ago.
    Thanks

Assuming your mac has at least 25 GB's of available hard drive space on the boot volume and an S-Drive as opposed to a combo drive; the latter only reads dvd's while the former both reads and writes to dvd, then you should be able to, yes.
But follow the iMovie> iDvd Tutorial/s first.

  • Can I burn to mini-DVD disc

Can I burn to mini-DVD discs on my iBook G4? I have a superdrive and I have burned the project succesfully on a regular DVD but the person that I am burning it for was told it had to be turned in on a mini-DVD.
Not knowing if the mini would be compatiable or possibly get stuck I was afraid to try it without some comformation that it has been done by someone else before. It is a work computer.
I tried to burn it on my sons PC and on my Mom's PC but neither worked. Neither acknowledges the mini-DVD.

    Hi Amber,
as Scalz wrote, never put non-standard-sized/shaped disks into slot-in drives...!!
    besides....
    miniDVD can have two meanings:
    * these %$§*? DVDcamcorders record on miniDVD (small diameter, but mainly DVD)
    * and you are able to burn a DVDcontent (muxxed mp2 stream) onto a CD-R - that is also called miniDVD.... I was able to fit 10min onto such, but my DVDstandalone doesn't accept such disks....
my guess, the recipient of your project tries to use his DVDcamcorder as a DVDplayer.... wow....... you get "grown up" DVDplayers for 39$.....
many external burners accept these miniDVD-r... maybe, someone can borrow you such? and, my guess, iDVD doesn't accept them, you need to use Toast (as I did for my dvd-cd-r experiment)

  • Can I read mini DVD-R?

Hello to all. I have a little question:
My iMac (iMac 6.1 Intel Core 2 Duo 2.16 Ghz) with PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-K0
can read mididisc dvd-r 1.4 GB?
    Thanks,
    Guillermo.

    Hello,
Do not use 8cm 'mini' or mis-shapen discs in the slot-loading optical drive in an iMac.
You should use an external tray-loading drive or look to source the content elsewhere (i.e. download).
BTW you have an Intel iMac, not an iMac G5.

  • Can I use a Mini DVD in my computer

I have an Envy 23 all in one computer with the DVD-CD drive which is upright built into the side. I also have a DVD camcorder that used DVD-RW MINI disks. Can I put the mini disks in this disk drive safely or will they get STUCK in there. So far I can't find any documentatio and I am AFRAID to put a mini disk in this drive for fear I won't be able to get it out.

You cannot use "mini-discs" in your slot-load CD/DVD drive. Inserting a "mini-disc" into the drive may cause permanent damage to the drive.

  • DVD's Created on T400 can't be read on DVD Players

When I burn a DVD on my T400 (XP-Pro, Mat**bleep**a DVD-RAM UJ862A), it can't be read on most DVD players.  I have tried different brands of DVDs (Memorex, Verbatim) and still no luck.  Any ideas what I can do?  Or do you know where I can download an updated driver?  Thanks.

I guess you would call it a video DVD.  It is just a homemade movie made from a slide show from Windows Movie Maker.  The DVD's I burn on my T400 do play on my son's DVD player which is brand new, and they seem to play on other computers.   But they do not play on either of my DVD players, one of which is about a year old and one is about 3 years old.  If I use the same procedure and same software to burn the DVD on another computer, it plays fine on both my DVD players.  Seems to be something about this DVD drive that has limited compatibility.  Thanks for your help.

  • How can I remove a mini DVD?

My wife just plunged a mini DVD into the drive slot thinking my MBP would play it. The joke's on her!
So, any suggestions as to how to remove the mini DVD short of taking the MBP apart? Or is that what I'm going to have to do?
    Thanks.

Never mind! Common sense has won out over knee-jerk reactionary forum-posting!
A gentle shake made the disc poke out from the drive slot. Crisis averted, et cetera.

  • Can I put a mini DVD into my Mac?

I am trying to transfer my home movies onto my Mac from mini dvds.is it ok to put these mini dvds into the Mac slot??

Do not do that!!!!!!!!!! The user's manual expressly warns you not to insert anything but standard sized CDs and DVDs. Mini discs will get stuck and not eject.

  • Can I use mini dvd's in my new imac?

Have several movies made with sony mini dvd camcorder, can I put the mini-dvd in the dvd slot of my imac, or will it get stuck? Thanks,
    Dan

I was thinking about this and one way to avoid this problem completely is to invest in an external Pioneer Burner housed in an ext. FW enclosure.
Essentially one needs to make certain the drive has the capacity to play such a disk prior to its insertion into the machine.

I realize it's much harder to do this visual exam on a laptop or a slot loading S-Drive as opposed to a slide out tray as shown above.

  • How can I play mini DVD's on the USB superdrive?

I can't play my mini dvd's on the superdrive

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Mini DVDs don't work with the Apple USB SuperDrive or with any disc drive included with Macs. You have to use an external DVD drive compatible with mini DVDs

  • Loading movie from mini DVD

I have a Sony DCR-DVD92 that uses the mini DVD's for recording. There is no firewire or USB port on this camera. Since the iMac can't run the mini DVD's how can I transfer the movies from my Handycam to my computer?

If you can, buy a better camera. This camera was not designed for use with a computer or with editing.
If you have a lot of mini-DVDs from this camera that you want to edit, your best bet is to [buy a USB DVD player recorder that sits flat on your desk like the ones at this link|http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/firewire/optical-drives>. Do not put these little DVDs into the slot on your iMac. You may not be able to get them out.

  • Mini dvds

Does the imac take mini dvds because I got a mini dvd camcorder and was seeing if I can just put the dvd in and edit the footage from the mini dvd.
    imac g5 17 inch 1.8 ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

The trouble is the Sony mini DVD handycams don't have firewire. I have been able to drag VOB files across USB (after the mini DVD has been finalized in the handycam). However, the mini DVD files have to be converted from Video_TS VOB to mp4 (I used a program called Open Shiiva that I found in a macworld posting). I can view the footage in QuickTime Player, but there's no audio and the whole process is very, very slow and cumbersome. I have dozens of mini DVDs that I need to convert (preferably without spending hundreds of dollars on new hardware and software). Any suggestions would be warmly appreciated.

  • Best mini-dvd recorder for Mac?

    Hello,
I have a Sony mini-dv recorder that uses mini tapes. I would like to purchase a new digital recorder that uses mini DVD's so I don't have to transfer from tape and can just pop the mini dvd into the mac dvd reader. Is this possible? I have a friend who tried with a Sony with no luck. what is the best brand compatible with Macs?
    Thank you.

MiniDVDs and MiniDiscs have little or no support on the Mac platform. Best to steer clear of any device that uses them if your sole working platform is a Mac.
Keep in mind that any device that records to a DVD, such as a MiniDVD recorder, is compressing the content far more than if you just captured your footage on tape. The content is already being formatted for playback on a DVD player as you record it, thus it's like skipping the whole editing/formatting process altogether. In theory, all you have to do is plop the disc into a set-top DVD player and hit play.
