Can my iTunes library be on more than 1 hard disk ?

Hi,
While having my music library on my computer, can I also store my movies files on the hard disk connected to my Airport Extreme Base Station (AEBS) ?
Regards.

While I don't know about using an AEB, yes you can have it on more than one disk if you are willing to do some extra effort.  iTunes is really set up to work with one disk.  You can turn off the copy to Media folder when adding to iTunes feature in iTunes references, or you can just always remember to hold down the option key while adding an item to iTunes and iTunes will not copy it to the media folder.  The only thing is, other features of iTunes may not behave as you are used to.  For example, if you delete a track this may turn into a two step process with deleting it form iTunes, then deleting the media file itself wherever you are keeping it.

  • Can't get itunes library to playback more than one song at a time

Has anyone had this problem? I am in the iTunes library and I can't get any songs to play unless they are selected. Even then, it will only play one song and then stop. I have "shuffle" activated and I have "repeat" activated. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software. I have also made sure I have the latest updates of iTunes and Quicktime. Does anyone have any idea how I can solve this?
      Windows XP

To me, it looks like the songs are not checked.
iTunes will only play checked songs continuously.
Control-click on one of the checkboxes in front of the name to check/uncheck them all at once.
    Hope this helps.

  • Time machine on more than one hard disk?

    Hello,
I'd like to have two copies of time machine back up on two different hard drives. Is that possible?

  • Can my itunes library be sourced from more than 1 hard drive?

Currently my iTunes library is on an external 3TB hard drive but is filling up fast. Can I just add another hard drive and have my itunes library on more than 1 HD or does it need to all be in 1 place?

Hmmm... I think there may be a snag in that regard.  Although the library is separate, the preferences settings are the same since those are not part of a library but part of the user's library (as in computer user account, not iTunes) preferences.  I do have multiple libraries (for different non-Apple mp3 players I manage) but they share the same media in part and since day one I have always not had iTunes manage my media which is stored on two different internal drives.  Of course if you do that then having a single set of preferences doesn't matter since they aren't being used anyway, and that may be the way you would have to go.  I dont' really want to mess with my preferences settings right now to test if one could get it to work with default settings -- it would be a huge mess if iTunes suddenly thought I wanted it to manage my media!!
Edit:  You can also hold down the option key while dragging media to a library to override iTunes preferences to copy to media folder.  You could do this for a low management library such as a movie library where you are not adding and subtracting things on a daily basis (unless you can afford new movies every day).

  • I keep my library on an external hard drive 4TB.  It's full.  Can I use more than one hard drive to keep my library on?

    Create a concatenated disk set
Increase storage space with a concatenated RAID set (also called “Just a Bunch of Disks” or JBOD). If you need one large disk, but you have only several smaller disks, you can create a concatenated disk set to use several small disks as one large disk.
Open Disk Utility, in the Utilities folder in Launchpad.
Select one of the disks that you want in the set, and then click RAID.
Click Add (+), and type a name for the RAID set.
Choose a format from the Format pop-up menu. Usually you’ll choose the Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format.
Choose Concatenated Disk Set from the RAID Type pop-up menu.
Drag the disks you want to add to the set to the list on the right.
    Click Create.
    Exerpt from:
Disk Utility 12.x: Create a RAID set - Apple - Support
Note that the biggest CON to concatenated RAID configurations is vulnerability to volume failure. If either disk fails, the whole volume fails. If you choose this option, I would highly recommend backing up your music to a cloud service. There are very cheap per GB/storage, and some of the most reputable actually offer unlimited storage:

    Sync iPod/iPad/iPhone with two computers
Although it isn't possible to sync an Apple device with two different libraries it is possible to sync with the same logical library from multiple computers. Each library has an internal ID and when iTunes connects to your iPod/iPad/iPhone it compares the local ID with the one the device normally syncs with. If they are the same you can go ahead and sync...
I have my library cloned to a small 1Tb USB drive which I can take between home & work. At either location I use SyncToy 2.1 to update the local copy with the external drive. Mac users should be able to find similar tools. I can open either of the local libraries or the one on the external drive and update the media content of my iPhone. The slight exception is Photos which normally connects to a specific folder on a specific machine, although that can easily be remapped to the current library if you create a "Photos" folder inside the iTunes Media folder so that syncing the iTunes folders keeps this up to date as well. I periodically sweep my library for new files & orphans with iTunes Folder Watch just in case I make changes at one location but then overwrite the library with a newer copy from the other. Again Mac users should be able to find similar tools.
As long as your media is organised within an iTunes Music or Tunes Media folder, in turn held inside the main iTunes folder that has your library files (whether or not you let iTunes keep the media folder organised) each library can access items at the same relative path from the library folder so the library can be at different drives/paths on different machines. This solution ensures I always have adequate backups of my library and I can update my devices whenever I can connect to the same build of iTunes.
When working with an iPhone earlier builds of iTunes would remove any file not physically present in the local library, even if there was an entry for it, making manual management practically redundant on the iPhone. This behaviour has been changed but it will still only permit manual management with a library that has the correct internal ID. If you don't want to sync your library between machines on a regular basis just copy the iTunes Library.itl file from the current "home" machine to any other you want to use, then clean out the library entries and import the local content you have on that box.

  • Can I use my iTunes Store account with more than one PC ?

    Hi all,
Am I able to use my iTunes Store account with more than one PC ?
I use my account on my PC - but I would like to download the latest version of iTunes onto my Mum's laptop, log in to my own iTunes Store account and rent a movie for her to download onto the laptop.
Is this possible and would I still be able to use my account on my PC at the same time?
    Many thanks,
    Steve.

    Good question.
I don't think you can--if I'm incorrect, someone will tell me--but it seems to me to be easier to simply open an iTunes account for your mom. Then get her a gift card, load it into iTunes for her, and rent a movie that way. Not elegant at all...but workable.

  • What happens when an iPod is synchronized with an iTunes library that is bigger than the available space on the iPod?

What happens when an iPod is synchronized with an iTunes library that is bigger than the available space on the iPod? I did this some time ago. On screen was shown available space somewhat less than 120 GB, but maybe somewhere between 10 and 20 GB more in the library. I had to get the iPod updated anyway, so I did proceed. However, afterwards the total content of the library was only about 110 GB. Now I wonder what did actually happen. Was the first sign only corrected for double copies of the same files or lost files or where files deleted from iTunes? And if files where deleted from iTunes, were they also deleted from my computer?

Same as you would if you bought a pc; copy everything from your old computer to your new one.  Then you can just sync everything from the new computer, as you did with the old one.

  • How can I enter my podcast in more than one category?  Mine covers arts, education and society and culture, but is listed as "Performing Arts".  Thank you for your time!

How can I enter my podcast in more than one category, to reflect the fact that it covers arts, education and society and culture?  Thank you for your time!

You can have more than one category - this page shows you how the tags are formed:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/podcasts/specs.html#category
The Store will list only the first category and its sub-category at the top of the page. Like the first category, the others will in theory make your podcast available for searching by category. However searching just on the category in the iTunes Store is most unlikely to throw up your podcast. There are thousands of podcasts out there, and it would be quite impossible to display on one page the entire list for any category. What you see are 'featured' podcasts, chosen by Apple as being special; please see this Tech Note:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/podcasts/specs.html#getfeatured
Note that there is no way you can influence the selection other than making your podcast really special.
If you have further questions about making your podcast it's better to ask them in the Producing Podcasts forum.

  • How can I return files in Trash, more than 1 at a time? I can place many files into Trash at a time.

I placed many unix.exe files into Trash, more than one at a time. I recently updated 'QuickTime' and the Mac version of 'SilverLight"
(name might be totally 'correct). I don't know if removing these files can impede my iMac 2008 running OS 10.6.8(updated SnowLeopard).
I know I can 'return' one file from Trash at a time. When I try to return more than one ('mouse click' and 'drag'
over 2 or more files, the'return' option isn't listed. Is there a way I can either 'return all' or return more than one file
    at a time?

Only one at a time. But where are they from? Did you delete system files or are these Windows files (.exe is a Windows extension?)

I lost my iTunes library on my pc when the hard drive crashed. None of the data on the drive was recoverable and I did not have a backup either locally or on the cloud. Much of the music is from old vinyl and podcasts which are no longer available.
How can I get the music that resides on my ipod nano (4th generation) back onto the new hard drive on my pc.
I have been reluctant to install iTunes on the new hard drive out of fear that I will lose all the contents on the ipod if I try to synch to the new hard drive.

No backup is a huge mistake.

  • How can I change all of (or more than one) speaker note to a voice at once?

    Hello...
I have a lot of speaker notes that I need to apply a specific voice to.  How do I apply the same voice to all of the speaker notes in the whole project at once?  Or at least more than one?  Any help would be appreciated.  Thank you!   I am working with Captivate 6.

    Hi Vikram,
Thanks. That tip definitely helps!  You just have to be careful when you use the CNTRL button and not highlight the name of the slide as you try to highlight the voices.  If you do that, then the drop down box becomes “unclickable”.  Unfortunately, when using the control button, it is sometimes impossible not to highlight the name of the slide as well.
