Can my MacBook Pro run this ram?

I am looking to upgrade from the original RAM that came with my MacBook Pro when I purchased it last year, it has 8GB, and I want to upgrade it to 16GB as I am always using absolutely all of it, well about 7.8GB of it. I have the early 2011 17" MacBook Pro with the i7 CPU.
Now I have been looking to purchase this RAM because it is 1600Mhz instead of 1333Mhz that I currently have. From what I have read it will run at 1600Mhz without a problem. But I'm just double checking to make sure this would be good RAM to upgrade to, I am looking for as high quality RAM as I can get.

What are your thoughts and suggestions for RAM?

For what it's worth I have a LATE 2011 17" mbp and it's essential to use 1600 ram!  And, it works beautifully.
Here's a post I posted elsewhere ...
Hey guys,
Hopefully this will help.  With a late 2011 17".
THERE IS NO PROBLEM, AT ALL, RUNNING 1600 SPEED RAM.
(1) I have a very late 17" macbook Pro.  (It is actually the somewhat rare 2.5 quad model.)  One of the very last ones made.
(2) It comes with 1333 ram
(3) I swapped in 1600 ram
(4) IT IS ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN, THAT, THE MACHINE RUNS MUCH, MUCH, MUCH, MUCH, MUCH FASTER when you have 1600 speed ram.
(Indeed, it runs 1600 / 1333 = 1.20x faster on all memory operations - it's just that simple and obvious. It's strange that some are suggesting there will be "no difference" etc.  The difference is VERY SUBSTANTIAL -- like 20%)
I did A NUMBER OF TESTS back-and-fore swapping the slow and fast ram.
and it is very, very obvious, the speed difference.
Most operations on computers are just memory bound - everything from startup to rendering and the like is quicker - obviously and clearly quicker - with faster ram.
(5) I have had utterly no problems running the faster ram. It reports and runs the ram utterly normally, no problem.
(6) These machines cost thousands, and ram cost a few dollars - there seems very little reason you wouldn't do this.
(7) I do have one of the very last 17" mbp.  (It was "old new stock" - I bought it unused in March 2013.)  So, it's possible that OLDER 17" mbp will not run 1600 speed RAM.  But, I mean it costs like $100 to try, on a fantastic machine worth $1000s, so it's a huge win at low cost if it works.
I hope this helps future readers!!!!
Cheers

It all depends on what your useage of Windows will be, for playing games install it in BootCamp, for word processing, spreadsheets, email. browsing etc a virtual Machne will be fine.

  • Can my MacBook Pro run Mountain Lion

I bought my Macbook Pro 6/2007. I am running Snow Lep. and want to know if I can up grade to Mountain Lion. When I had my machine in for repair in the spring a tec person said no, but a month ago a tec rep without seeing my laptop said yes.  How can I tell for sure? Do I need to take it in again?

See Step 1 here >  Apple - Upgrade your Mac to OS X Mountain Lion.
Apple says:   MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
Click your Apple menu icon. From the drop down menu click About This Mac.
You may want to upgrade the RAM if there is less than 4GB installed before upgrading to Mountain Lion.
And check to see if you have apps installed that may not run on Mountain Lion >   App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps - App compatibility and feature support for OS X & iOS

  • Can a Macbook pro run Parallels AND Fusion?

I know this may not be the right forum, but I'll make it a quickie.
Will I damage my mbp if I install Parallels and Fusion? I would only use them one at a time for their own virtual machines -- but can having both on the same system cause damage to my precious mbp?
    thanks!

I had both installed and upgraded from Parallels 4 to 5. It erased my Parallels 4 install and replaced it (I just downloaded the demo of 5 to see if it was worth upgrading). Long story short, I hated Parallels 5 as it brought my brand new MacBook Pro to it's knees, and since it erased my Parallels 4 I uninstalled the whole thing. Now I'm using only Fusion 3 and it is quite nice. It's not as snappy as running bootcamp but since I have decided to run Windows 7 I'll have to wait until the compatible Bootcamp drivers are released before I move it to bootcamp.
That's just my observations. I thought Parallels 4 was pretty good but Fusion 3 is better. And I don't know why Parallels 5 was such a slug but I was very unimpressedin both the performance AND the fact that it completely obliterated my previous copy with no option but to start over with a fresh install.

  • Can my MacBook Pro run Diablo III?

I have a brand new 13" MacBook Pro with a 2.5 GHZ Intel Core i5 Processor, Intel HD Graphics 4000, 4GB of RAM and 500GB hard drive.
As a very technologically challenged person I was wondering if it would run Diablo III?
    Thanks in advance!

The 15" wouldn't have weighted that much more and lasted longer with OS X upgrades because of the dedicated graphics card.
For instance 10.8 will only run on certain older Mac's, those with good graphics.
If you want to make that 13" last longer, use a external USB keyboard and mouse, avoid the built in keyboard and trackpad as much as possible.
Also keep it covered and don't wear jewelry as it can scratch the case, body chemicals mar the surface.
Don't use the Superdrive as a DVD movie playback machine, use it sparingly.
Backup your data and don't move the computer while it's in operation as the hard drive is fragile.

  • Can my MacBook Pro run Final Cut Pro X fine?

    Hi,
I was wondering if I can run Final Cut Pro X fine in my mid-2010 MacBook Pro? I am looking to get the software simetime this year. The specs are in my signature (the GPU is an nvidia 330m with 256mb of VRAM).
Has anyone run FCPX in the Core i5 mid-2010 MacBook Pros? If so, hows the experience in terms of performance?
    Many thanks!

You should be OK with an i5 machine but there seem to be many variables in how well each machine works. here's a thread you should look at:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3726332?tstart=0
Also, if you go to the app store and look on the FCX page you will find the specs.

  • Can a Macbook pro run league of legands in full HD

I have bought my new Macbook pro Retina display 15 inch. And then a wont to know, can my mac run league of legands in full HD?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
With Full HD, are you referring to 1920x1080? If so, it should. The 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display has got a graphic card that supports Full HD games without any problem.
If you are referring to 2880x1800, you can try but I don't think that your MacBook will work correctly. Note that it's a high resolution that a few PCs and Macs can support, and for games it's not ready. In both cases, be careful with overheating: your MacBook should set up fans as it needs, but you shouldn't keep your Mac with Full HD games for a long time

My hard drive has 70.93 GB available, yet when i have more than one internet tab open, i have to force quit google chrome because 'there is no more available application memory'. How can I solve this? I have a 2009 macbook pro running on 10.6.8. I have tried updating to mavericks through the mac app store but after it downloading for a day i got an error message saying there was a problem with the download. The same thing happens if i try to update itunes or the mac app store. After research, i have also tried repairing disk permissions, but every time they do get repaired the 'repair' button still appears, i'm not sure if it's because it was unable to repair the initial problems or if it just keeps detecting new ones.

2 GBs is a minimum in which you can do many things, but not concurrently. Be very careful to not install third-party add-ons, limit the number of applications you choose to enter in Login Items, run as few applications concurrently as you demand.
I would consider adding more RAM to your computer. Your model supports 8 GBs, so I would install that.

I have removed the bottom and taken out the battery and the ram . will this affect my applecare warranty. I had to try myself as I'm overseas for two months and nowhere near any sort of help .

there was a recent software update that seemed to screw HDV up.  Do some searching here over the last month or 2 and you'll find a bunch of posts and some possible solutions.
Worst case scenario, do as Shane suggests.  But might I suggest you take a look at the user tips section of the forum.  there are some great tips on how to prevent these sorts of problems by cloning your startup drive, etc.

There is no upgrade to iPhoto with OS X 10.10.3 - here was an update to version 9.6.1 a few months ago and Photo 1.0 was added with 10.10.3 - what software and which version are you having trouble with - iPhoto or Photos?

  • How much RAM can my Macbook Pro hold MAX?

Can my Macbook Pro hold a MAX of 8GB or is it just 4GB? I'm getting different answers online and I'm a little annoyed at this point. My computer specs currently are:
    15 inch Laptop
MacBook Pro 2.6 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM.
    Got my computer in 2009.
At Crucial.com it says it can hold up to 8GB when I select my computer processor speed from their list, but I noticed it saying DDR3 (and I don't know what that means to be honest). Here's the link:
    http://www.crucial.com/store/mpartspecs.aspx?mtbpoid=7F3A5584A5CA7304
To the best of my knowledge I selected the correct computer, which I own, from their list.
Under "About This Mac", on my computer, it says DDR2 for the memory, on Crucial.com it says DDR3. As a result I'm confused and will that cause problems?
I'll be getting my RAM kit from Crucial.com, so do I buy the 4BG kit, because that's all my laptop can handle, or is it OK to get the 8GB kit, which says DDR3?
I do a lot of video and audio, so I would like to get my RAM up to 8 GB if it will.
    Thanks

One more question friend....You've been so helpful
Will these two sticks work together on my machine?
    2GB, 200-pin SODIMM, DDR2 PC2-5300 memory module
    http://www.crucial.com/store/mpartspecs.aspx?mtbpoid=B54C51B4A5CA7304
    along with a...
    4GB 200-pin SODIMM DDR2 PC2-6400 Memory Module
    http://www.amazon.com/Crucial-CT51264AC800-200-pin-SODIMM-PC2-6400/dp/B001RB21JE
So these two would add up to 6GB total. Now the ONLY DIFFERENCE that I see is the 2GB stick is PC2-5300(667Mhz)speed and the 4GB stick is PC2-6400(800Mhz)speed. I understand that my machine won't run at the 800Mhz speed that the PC2-6400 stick is designed for, cause my machine says 667 under the memory info. From what I read online, it's ok to put a higher Mhz stick in there, it will just cap at 667Mhz speed? But.......both sticks are DDR2, which is right for my computer, but will the 667 MHz with a 800 Mhz be a huge no-no to run together? At this point I think that is my main concern! If I can't do this, than I think I'll have to go with the 2x2GB kit for 4GB total, but I REALLY would like to run 6GB.
    Shew.... :P
    Thanks again!

I'm using a 15" Macbook Pro running OSX6.8 and cannot upgrade. I have a subscription to Adobe CC but none of these work on this so I was on with Adobe for 5 hours trying to install and launch Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Muse, and Acrobat Pro from CS6. Well, InDesign is the only one that works and I have a ton of work due! I don't have a serial number for Photoshop or Illustrator except for CS3, and they don't work. InDesign gave me no problems. Illustrator says it can't work on this machine. Photoshop needs a serial number. I'm stumped and getting anxious and freaked out. Can anyone help? Adobe Chat is down right now.

if you have a cc subscription, close ps > sign out and then back in to your cc desktop > open ps.
    ai cs6 requires:

Mac OS X v10.6.8 or v10.7. Adobe Creative Suite 5, CS5.5, and CS6 applications support Mac OS X v10.8 and v10.9 when installed on Intel-based systems.*
2 GB of RAM (8 GB recommended)
2 GB of available hard-disk space for installation; additional free space required during installation (cannot install on a volume that uses a case-sensitive file system or on removable flash storage devices)

There are some keyboard commands (shortcuts) you can use instead of having to go to the Apple menu -
Control-Eject          This brings up the Restart-Sleep-Cancel-Shutdown window.
Command-Option-Eject          This puts the machine to sleep.

  • Is the Dell 3115CN compatible with a Macbook Pro running Mountain Lion? If so, how can I install the drivers and install the printer on my mac?

I hace a Macbook Pro running Mountain Lion OS.... I need to print from time to time but don't have a new printer to go with my new macbook. Would a 3115CN work with it or no? If so, how can I set it up? Setting up a printer on a mac is a bit different from doing so on a windows machine and I am new to the macworld.
All help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes. I'm running this printer from 10.6 through 10.9 and it's worked fine with all versions. Dell released updated drivers a while ago that make it much easier to administer this printer.
