Can my macbook's Ram work on a minimac?

Hi I was wondering if the ram that came with my black macbook be used to upgrade a minimac?
Thanks

If it's an Intel-based Mac mini, then yes you can use it. If it's a PowerPC-based Mac mini, then no, they use a different type of RAM.
However, keep in mind that the RAM on a Mac mini is not a user-installable part. You'll have to have an Apple Authorized Service Provider replace the RAM on the Mac mini or you risk voiding your warranty.

  • How much RAM can my Macbook Pro hold MAX?

Can my Macbook Pro hold a MAX of 8GB or is it just 4GB? I'm getting different answers online and I'm a little annoyed at this point. My computer specs currently are:
    15 inch Laptop
MacBook Pro 2.6 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM.
    Got my computer in 2009.
At Crucial.com it says it can hold up to 8GB when I select my computer processor speed from their list, but I noticed it saying DDR3 (and I don't know what that means to be honest). Here's the link:
    http://www.crucial.com/store/mpartspecs.aspx?mtbpoid=7F3A5584A5CA7304
To the best of my knowledge I selected the correct computer, which I own, from their list.
Under "About This Mac", on my computer, it says DDR2 for the memory, on Crucial.com it says DDR3. As a result I'm confused and will that cause problems?
I'll be getting my RAM kit from Crucial.com, so do I buy the 4BG kit, because that's all my laptop can handle, or is it OK to get the 8GB kit, which says DDR3?
I do a lot of video and audio, so I would like to get my RAM up to 8 GB if it will.
    Thanks

One more question friend....You've been so helpful
Will these two sticks work together on my machine?
    2GB, 200-pin SODIMM, DDR2 PC2-5300 memory module
    http://www.crucial.com/store/mpartspecs.aspx?mtbpoid=B54C51B4A5CA7304
    along with a...
    4GB 200-pin SODIMM DDR2 PC2-6400 Memory Module
    http://www.amazon.com/Crucial-CT51264AC800-200-pin-SODIMM-PC2-6400/dp/B001RB21JE
So these two would add up to 6GB total. Now the ONLY DIFFERENCE that I see is the 2GB stick is PC2-5300(667Mhz)speed and the 4GB stick is PC2-6400(800Mhz)speed. I understand that my machine won't run at the 800Mhz speed that the PC2-6400 stick is designed for, cause my machine says 667 under the memory info. From what I read online, it's ok to put a higher Mhz stick in there, it will just cap at 667Mhz speed? But.......both sticks are DDR2, which is right for my computer, but will the 667 MHz with a 800 Mhz be a huge no-no to run together? At this point I think that is my main concern! If I can't do this, than I think I'll have to go with the 2x2GB kit for 4GB total, but I REALLY would like to run 6GB.
    Shew.... :P
    Thanks again!

  • Can the MacBook Pro 13inch mid 2008 use 1333Mhz RAM?

Can the MacBook Pro 13inch mid 2008 use 1333Mhz RAM? I just bought another 4 GB of ram, but it isn't 1066Mhz like the other stick. Everything works and passes a memory test but the MacBook does not wake from sleep. It only does this when the new RAM is inserted. I have tried it on its own and with the old memory and it only does it with this faster memory installed. It says its at the same speed as any slower RAM installed.

So 1066Mhz is the only ram that works.? As in there isn't anything I need to change or the ram just isn't working correctly? I was always under the impression that ram always clocked it self down to the slowest module installed, which this one does, it just does let the Mac come out of sleep..
There may be some 1333MHz RAM that would work in your machine, but it's not what you bought, and the only way to find it would be to keep buying more and more modules until you found one that worked.  It is always safest to buy RAM with the right specs for your machine from a known-reliable, Mac-savvy vendor that offers a lifetime warranty and no "restocking fee" if you get a module that seems to be bad or go bad.
RAM that is faster than spec will often clock itself down, not to the speed of the slowest module installed, but to the speed the machine's architecture is designed to use. But it doesn't always work — not even when it appears at first to work. And there's never any benefit to installing faster-than-spec RAM, because it never speeds up the machine's operation at all.

You run the risk of owning perfectly good memory that does not happen to work in your Mac.
The best way to shop is to patronize Vendors who promise:

  • HT1651 What RAM can my macbook take? PLEASE HELP!

i know it says my macbook late 2006 'officially' can't use 4gb of ram, but according to google it can, will Crucial 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3 SO-DIMMs RAM 1333MHz work on my macbook? THANKS!

You can put two 2gb RAM sticks in your model 2,1 but it can only use 3,3gb. This is a hardware limitation and cannot be changed.

OWC tests have found that there is a slight speed increase with having two 2gb sticks in rather than one 1gb and one 2gb. Your model is in the gray lines at the bottom of the graph. http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/Memory_Benchmark/Apple_MacBook/

does DDR3 ram work in my early 09 macbook?

    No, if it's a  model 5,2 (Early 2009, 2.0GHz Model Only) it can handle 6gb of 667mhz PC2-5300 RAM. http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/MacBook/DDR2/

    Hi all
    I have a late 2008 Macbook Pro MB470B/A with factory 2Gb RAM.
Does anyone know if 2 x 4Gb (8Gb total) Hyinx HMT151R7BFR4C-G7 memory modules will work in my machine - or how I can check?
    The memory specs are:
    DDR3 SDRAM PC3-8500
    CL=7
    ECC Registered
    DDR3-1066MHz
    1.5V
    x 72
    240 pins
    Refresh 8K / 64ms
    Number of DRAMS:  x 36
    Thanks!

If you make a mistake, NewEgg charges a 15 percent re-stocking fee.
Why should you have to figure this stuff out?
It's complicated, and really easy to make a mistake!
I suggest everyone should deal with a Mac-Centric vendor who can tell YOU exactly what works in your model Mac, and backs it up with:

Best if you try and explain what you are trying to acheive.
Iphoto is a different paradigm than you're used to. I don't understand why you are trying to transfer your edited photos back to an external disk.

I would do another SMC reset. If nothing changes you should take the computer in to an Apple store for a free diagnostic. You should make an appointment.

  • So... how much RAM can my Macbook actually take? How to upgrade?

Hi all. I have a Macbook I purchased around May of 2011. It's the last of its kind to be released before the Macbook was discontinued in July of 2011. I have Snow Leopard and I'm considering upgrading to Mountain Lion because I heard that World of Warcraft no longer supports Leopard, and Snow Leopard is next in line to be dropped. Problem is I only have 2GB of RAM, and while it's treated me well so far, I'd like to upgrade. I've read that my Macbook can take only 4GB through Apple, but I've heard it can take 8GB from other sources. Can I take the safe route and only install 4GB and be okay? I only use my Macbook for web surfing, iTunes, Microsoft Word, and occasionally WoW or games on Steam. So far I can play WoW and Flash games without any issues with 2GB of RAM, but I don't know if that will change when I upgrade to Mountain Lion.
I know where to buy the proper RAM, but I don't feel comfortable installing it myself. I know Apple won't install third party RAM, so that's out unless I buy Apple (and I wouldn't mind, but I don't know how much it costs.) Where can I take it? Will Geek Squad at Best Buy do it? Or should I just buy from Apple and have them install it? Should I take the "safe" route and get 4GB of RAM or try 6GB? Will 6GB hurt my computer?

The last MacBooks produced can use 8 GB RAM and you can upgrade them to the latest version of OS X. Purchase memory from OWC / MacSales or Crucial.
Installing memory is a do it yourself project but if you are not comfortable with that then have an Apple Authorized Service Provider do it for you. Next best choice is to have a competent computer repair shop perform the installation.
I wouldn't have Best Buy wash my car.

  • I have a super slim usb 2.0.  Can't get it to work on macbook air.  Any ideas?

I have just bought a super slim usb 2.0 disc drive but I can't get it to work on my macbook air and now a dvd is stuck in it!  Any ideas?

Five ways to eject a stuck CD or DVD from the optical drive
Ejecting the stuck disc can usually be done in one of the following ways:
      1. Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
left mouse button until the disc ejects.
      2. Press the Eject button on your keyboard.
      3. Click on the Eject button in the menubar.
      4. Press COMMAND-E.
      5. If none of the above work try this: Open the Terminal application in
your Utilities folder. At the prompt enter or paste the following:
            /usr/bin/drutil eject
If this fails then try this:
Boot the computer into Single-user Mode. At the prompt enter the same command as used above. To restart the computer enter "reboot" at the prompt without quotes.

  • Can't get audio to work on my Panasonic Plasma smart TV when I connect a Toslink optical mini to Toslink optical digital to my mid 2009 MacBook pro?

My MAc book pro 5.5 is mid 2009, Processor speed 2.26 GHZ MacOS X VERSION 10.68 Leopard. My Tv is a Panasonic Plasma smart TV TC-P50ST60. I ordered from Amazon a Toslink optical mini to Toslink optical digital cable meant for Macbook pro 2009 forward. I changed the settings on both TV and Mac but I still can't get audio to work on TV. I believe my Mac can't see the audio output from the TV. Any advice with step by step instructions on how to fix it? could it be they sent me defective cables? Thank You for your help.

When I spoke with Apple I made sure I told them that my Macbook Pro was Mid 2009 and he ensured me again that those to cords will work. I realize that with the newer models it does put through both sound and audio but because of my model I don't think it does obviously because I have played with both Sound on my computer and Sound on the TV and nothing works. Sometime Apple can be good but man some people lol he even told me he verified my computer model on the computer and that's what came up.
So new question would be what kind of cable would I be looking for to get audio? Anyone before I call back to Apple and see what they say hahah

I did everything the article suggests. And for my macbook pro it works perfectly. But all the other devices (iphone 5, 4, Macbook Air) can't connect to the network. Anybody any idea's?

Try resetting your modem. Power it down. Wait a moment, then power it up again. While it resets, do not change what is connected to it.
In another, though unrelated article, Apple recommends the following:
If you have configured your Wi-Fi base stations in the past, it may be helpful to do a factory default reset of each Wi-Fi base station that will be part of the wireless extended network before you begin.
This step really ought not be considered optional for the configuration you propose. If the problem persists after resetting your modem, reset everything else too.

  • HT201335 I have a MacBook Air that was bought April 5, 2011. It seems it should be supported for Airplay mirroring but I can't get it to work and I do not have the icon on my bar. Any suggestions?

I have a MacBook Air that was bought April 5, 2011. It seems it should be supported for Airplay mirroring but I can't get it to work and I do not have the icon on my bar. Any suggestions?

    Welcome to the Apple community.
AirPlay Mirroring requires a second-generation Apple TV or later, OS X 10.8 or better and is supported on the following Mac models: iMac (Mid 2011 or newer), Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer), MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer), and MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer). It also requires the computer to be using wi-fi.
