Can my USA iMac 2.4Ghz work on European power

I have an iMac 2.4GHz Model A1224. We moved to Amsterdam and they of course run on European power. My iMac label states it is 100-240V range.
The local Mac store has a cable that plugs into the USA 3-prong and has the European plug on the other end. Basically it's an extension cable that converts to the Europe plug.
Will my iMac support the European power or do I also need a power converter. Thank you in advance.

You don't need a power converter for the iMac. Just a plug. In Europe we use 220V. So your iMac should be fine. It has a universal transformer incorporated.
In fact, just get a new "European" cable from the Apple store for your iMac.

  • Can't get iMac upgraded to work with my iPad

My computer and iTunes won't recognize my new iPad. When I checked the specs, it looked like I needed to update both OS and iTunes. Can't upgrade to iTunes 10 until I upgrade OS to X 10.5. Software update says I am up-to-date, so I'm getting no help from there to figure out what to download. All of the OS X upgrades on site seem to be for specific models; I don't see any that are for my machine. I have iMac5,1 with Intel Core 2 Duo. Help!

You need to purchase and install a retail version of 10.5 or 10.6.

  • My external monitor works but I can't get my screen to work on my power book anymore

Can not get my screen on power book G4 to work but my external monitor works fine. Did I press something and turn it off?

The both screens always worked fine but now the power book doesn't show anything on the screen.  I didn't drop it or even move it.  Where is the brightness button?  Could I have hit it by mistake?
Thanks so much for your help.
F2 is the up-brightness button, F1 is the down-brightness button, usually, on PowerBooks.  If for some reason the F1 button got held down for a couple of seconds, the display would go completely dark.
That being said, if the backlight does not come up (easily determined by seeing if the Apple outline on the cover is lit up) then the most likely suspect would be the inverter board, or the connection to the inverter board.  If this is a Titanium PG G4, the inverter board is easy and relatively inexpensive to replace.  For the Aluminum models, I don't know if that is quite so true.

  • How do I get the built in microphone to work on my IMac?  Camera works fine, but I can't record voice.

How do I get the built-in microphone to work on my IMac?  Camera works fine, but I can't record sound.

I always assummed that the mic was part of iSight (intertwined?).  The mic is situated right next to iSight.  It would seem to me the solutions would be the same some what.
Regarding the OP, I also suspect his/her problem is hardware.  It's rather unusual for the internal mic to not work yet the iSight does.

  • Upgraded to Yosemite and can no longer remote into my work iMac through screen sharing- it is turned on in settings?

My screen sharing functionality did not show up in the dock with an updated icon.  It had a question mark- shows my connections but nothing works, I did make sure screen sharing is on and also connected to VPN.  Once I tried to launch screen sharing nothing happens.  Such an elegant solution in Mavericks not does not work. Ugh. Help!

This is the post that got me set up- I too am running an older version at work vs. Yosemite. As soon as I followed is advice everything worked.
Upgraded to Yosemite and can no longer remote into my work iMac through screen sharing- it is turned on in settings?
I believe the location of the "Screen Sharing" app has changed, which explains why if you had it in the dock it has been replaced by a ?
Don't forget you can launch screen sharing (once your VPN connection is up) by typing in the Safari destination slot vnc://remotemachinename:portnumber  (omit the :port number if you are using the default VNC port, 5900).  This should launch Screen Sharing and put its icon in the dock.  You can drag the Screen Sharing icon to the left of your dock and it will hopefully remain there after you exit Screen Sharing, or you can right-click on the icon when it's running and select Options->Show in Finder to find out its new location and drag its icon to the permanent entries in your dock.
Hope this helps; worked for me.

  • Installed Windows 7 on my IMac, now I can't get Apple OS to work

Installed Windows 7 on my IMac, now I can't get Apple OS to work, I have tried booting with Snow Leopard disc in and nothing works. I had trouble from the start but now nothing works except Windows 7, sound wont work etc. etc.

I originally tried installing Widows 7 so I could run my Flight Simulator X on the IMac I got from my daughter and I used BootCamp and had partitioned it at about 4GB for windows and the first thing I got was I had to put a bootable disc in and neither the windows 7 or Snow Leopard would work. Then I got Windows 7 to work but I can't get Snow Leopard to run, when I put the disc in it says that it not supported. Of course windows wont show me anyother areas of the disc that I could try to get to, the other side of the partition I guess. I have tried holding the C key down on reboot and that doesn't work. I hope this gives you a little more insight as to what is going on. Thanks Bill

No. Return it and get your money back if still within the 30 day return window. All US iPhones are carrier locked and cannot be officially unlocked.

  • I have the 24" imac 2.4ghz can it support elements 11

i have the 24" imac 2.4ghz can it support elements 11??? i need to know soon

Yes, assuming your system meets the requirements for PSE 11.  At a minimum you need to be running OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) and have at least 1GB RAM.  2GB would be a lot better.

  • Imac i5 late 2009 running OS X 10.8.4 and can't get FireWire connection to work

I have Imac i5 late 2009 running OS X 10.8.4 and can't get FireWire connection to work with LaCie external drive.  I have gone through older posts and tried with no luck power cable and holding down start button for 15 seconds and restoring power and also removing power cable waitng 10 minutes replugging power cable holding down alt command P, R keys until second beep is heard.  I know that LaCie drive and cable are working, they were connnected to another iMac without issues.  What options do I have left to get FireWire to work? The System Report just says
    FireWire Bus:
Maximum Speed: Up to 800 Mb/sec.
    Thanks for any help
    CS

I did not mention in original post that when initially connected to the Firewire port the LaCie drive  I can hear activity so the drive is getting power. Does this mean the Firewire port may not be physically damamged and there may be options for resetting? Are there any 3rd party software repair programs worth buying for diagnostics and repair of the FireWire port?

  • I'm trying to connect a LAN printer, HP Color Laser Jet 3800dn, through a Time Capsule but no one on the network can see it.  The printer works fine if I connect it directly to my iMac.  Any suggestions?

    Hi Clark
There is a good chance the printer is just getting auto IP internally..
Plug it into your TC. And then set to dhcp via the controls on the printer.
If you know the name of the printer it should be immediately available to the network.. but anyway, you can find its IP by printing out the test page. That will also give you the network name.
Most later HP printers have web access to the print servers.. just type the ip into your browser and see if it comes up.
From the Mac, you should then be able to set it up via the printer preferences. Most HP will just appear.. but if not you should perhaps delete the local version and then check again for network printers.

    Hello,
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
    Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or some USB or Firewire device, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

I have an Itel based iMac on which I created a Wifi network using Airport. My iPhone5 uses the Wifi on my iMac and still works. My problem is that I can't remember the Wifi password and it is not in my Keychain. What can I do so that I can connect other devices to my Wifi?

Read the router's user manual on how to change your password.
If you are going to select another password, make sure it's one that you will NEVER forget AND no one else can figure it out.  Print it out & keep in a safe place.  A place that ONLY you know about AND never forget.

  • How can I make my Altec Lansing work with my iMac?

    Good day to all,
I have an intel-based iMac (24" model Core 2 Duo) and I have an Altec Lansing VS4121 speaker with subwoofer. It was originally on my brother's PC but since he left for abroad I decided to hook it up on my iMac. Thing is, I can't seem to make it work. I plugged the two speakers to the subwoofer and plugged the included phone jack to both ends (subwoofer and iMac's speaker jack) but it doesn't show me an option via System Preferences of an external speaker to choose.
If anyone can help it's greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Note: I also own an M-AUDIO Fast Track Pro USB Preamp if that helps.

Well, I got them to work finally. Plugged the jack into the headphone jack and now my external speakers are working.
