Can my wife and I share the same Apple ID on each of our iPhones?
I'm trying to set hers up and now it's showing each of our contacts in the other's contacts list (in addition to our own). Now I'm worried that we'd have the same apps and end up with each other's email if I proceed. Can we have separate settings while sharing the same Apple ID??
Actually he can.
Sign into iCloud using husband and wife's individual unique apple id.
But sign in iTunes store or App store or iBook store using a single apple id (be it husband's or wife's)... both iPhones can have the same media (ie, books, songs, videos, apps), but different iCloud account to manage different emails, find my iphone, iMessage, calendars, notes, reminders, etc...
Just have to remember to sign out and sign in using different ID.
iOS4.x.x does not support this, but iOS5 does.
I am using 3 different Apple IDs to access Apps, iTunes and iCloud respectively.

You can certainly use the same ID for an itunes store account to share purchased items. However for icloud, it's designed so that each account pertains to one user for each of his/her devices. The main purpose of icloud is syncing and backups of iOS devices. Do you really want to have the same email account, same contacts, calendars, notes, reminders, etc? Usually a couple needs to have separate icloud accounts. They can share calenders if they want.
The danger of two users using one account is if one user edits or deletes (on purpose or accidentally) data, that will propagate to the other user's devices. -

My wife has had an iTunes account, Iphone, and Ipod for a while. I just bought an Iphone and Ipod and would like to utilize her music library without messing up her phone or itunes account. We'd like to maintain separate apps and stuff on our devices...so when I download music and apps, she doesn't want that showing up on her phone when she pairs it to her itunes account. Can this be done?
I have heard that I need to create my own Apple ID, which I have...so I can download my own apps...but will I have access to her itunes music if I do that?

This applies mainly to couples who are adding another device and do not want their email, messages, etc. being duplicated on both devices. To begin read: How to use multiple iPhone, iPad, or iPod devices with one computer. You need to establish a separate Apple ID and password for whomever will use the new iDevice. See Apple - My Apple ID and Frequently asked questions about Apple ID. The easiest way is to do this on the computer using iTunes: iTunes- How to set up an Apple ID within iTunes.
On the computer create a new user account for the person with the new iDevice. This will be the user account that person will always use. He/She will no longer use the other user account. This way that person will have a separate iTunes Library
Start by transferring the new device(s) to a new account along with all your data. Save any photo stream photos that you want to keep to your camera roll (unless they are already in the camera roll) by opening your Photos app, tap on Albums icon at the bottom. Now, tap on My Photo Stream album; tap Select; tap on the photos you want to select;, tap the share icon (box with upward facing arrow) in the lower left corner; then tap Save to Camera Roll.
If you are syncing notes with iCloud that you want to keep then you need to open each of your notes and email them to yourself. Later you can copy and paste the text into new notes created in your new account.
Tap on Settings > iCloud > Delete Account (only deletes it from this device, not from iCloud; the person keeping the current account will not be affected,) provide the password to turn off Find My Phone and choose Keep on My iDevice when prompted. Sign in with a different Apple ID to create your new account. Choose Merge to upload your data.
Once you are on separate accounts, you can each go to icloud.com and delete the other person's data from your account.

I also have 2 iphones (mine and my wifes), all on ONE iTunes ID and ONE iCloud ID.
I want to backup our photos only automatically to my Windowns 7 PC using Photostream & iCloud from both devices BUT I dont want her photos on my phone and vice versa.
I too would like to keep 1 iTunes account and because I dont want her photos streamed to my phone I will create separate iCloud IDs.

My wife and I share the same email address and Apple ID. We are not able to send and receive Text Messages to one another. Is the cause of this because we share the same Apple ID? Will we have to set up 2 separate primary email addresses to be able to send and receive Tex Messages to one another? Like I said, we share the same email address and woul like to keep it that way to keep up with our email together. Since iOS6, whenever I send an iMessage to my wife, it sends the message to me too. How do I stop this? My wife and I share the same email address.
On at least one of the phones, go to Settings/ Messages/ Send & Receive and then tap the e-mail address to turn that option off. That should force the iMessage to be sent to the unique phone numbers of the phones, not the e-mail address that is common between the phones.
Or alternatively, create a new e-mail address for one of you and select that as the e-mail option to receive at on one of the phones instead of the shared e-mail. -

If you use the same iCloud account on your iPhones it will sync all of your contacts, reminders, and notes automatically and it could be a pain. I don't know exactly how you would want to have the iCloud accounts set up on the Macs, because I don't know exactly how you use them. (I am assuming you share?). But you can do whatever you like, you can even keep the same iCloud accounts, etc but you may want to disable the syncing of certain items, because reminders for ones phone popping up on the others automatically would probably get annoying, but that is just me.

I transfered my iTunes to a flash drive and am planning on putting it on my new Mac, I did it like this : I simply drag and dropped my music from Itunes (by album) to the flash drive (left of iTunes), when I plug my flash drive into my new computer w
