Can nano ipod be used as a separate data storage?

Can nano ipod be used as a separate data storage? if so then can any file be stored e.g. .doc, .jpg. Also does the PC need anything like software for the data files to be accessed and transfered. If it doesn't then that means file can be transferred computer to computer in a couple of minutes meaning the nano ipod can be used similary to pen drive.
nano ipod   Windows XP

To tie together all the responses here:
You can picture the iPod as having two different personalities. One is the music player, and this is run through iTunes. The other is a data storage device. This is optional, and you have to turn it on via iTunes, but once you turn it on, you use it via Windows just like any other removable drive. If you have it set to the "split-personality" then the two sides really have nothing to do with each other. iTunes manages the music, Windows handles the data side.

  • We have two Ipod Touches in the Home and two Ipads. Right now one of the Ipads has a separate user indentity. Can both Ipods be used to use the same library with different user ids's and different passwords.

We have two Ipod touches and two Ipads in our home. Right now both Ipods are using the same used id and password to access itunes and sync music. But recently both os us have downloaded the Ibooks segment to our Ipads and now the only way to sync the second Ipad for Ibooks is to use the same used id and password. But the problem is that with our two Ipads in the home, we established two separate used ids and passwords one for each. Is there a way for me to still use the second Ipod touch and the second Ipad with completely separate userids and passwords. In other words to share the music library I have accumulated and yet to sign in each with our separate identities. That way the Ipads can sync and the Ipod touches can sync. Is this possible.

This is to avoid piracy. What could happen is, people could buy music, and give it away for free online. Usually it is then you buy a complete album off iTunes that it will only be available on one device. It is tied to that account, and the device must be registered to that account to listen to it.

  • Can't use Time Capsule as data storage beyond Time Machine?

I had thought that my 2TB Time Capsule could be used for:
    1) Wi-Fi router
    2) Time Machine backups of all my Apple computers
    3) Data storage, i.e. a shared drive among all computers in my home to store/transfer files like a network drive
But from what I've been reading, it appears that #3 is not an option. I was going to erase my TC and start all over so that I could allocate maybe 1.5TB to backups and half a TB to storage for my home machines.
Is this not possible without physically dismantling the TC as suggested elsewhere? If so, then I guess I just have a WiFi router and space for backups.

In addition to the comments from LexShellings, if you want to reserve a given amount of space on the Time Capsule disk for your shared files, you can set up a Disk Image using Disk Utility on your Mac to do so.
What you cannot do....without a lot of effort and also voiding the warranty.....is "partition" the Time Capsule drive in the traditional sense.
But, since the Disk Image will reserve the space that you want for your shared files, it acts like a partition on the Time Capsule disk.
Before you set up the Disk Image for your shared files......you might want to think about how you will back up that Disk Image to another drive....so you have a backup of the shared files.

  • Can 2 ipods be used on one computer? (different users-2 accounts on one computer)

We have one computer, 2 ipods (one classic, one nano), 2 itunes accounts.  Is it possible for 2 users to use the same computer with different ipods and different itunes accounts.  We are having problems accomplishing this.

  • What's Using All of My Data Storage?!?! Mysterious "Other Data" ???

Has anyone found out the actual solution to this problem?!?! I had 12 of 13 gb used, less than 1 gb free. Why?? I've NEVER downloaded ANY games or side loaded ANY Android apps. After the 10.2 update I deleted all of my nonessential apps, including FB, Twitter, Foursquare, and LinkedIn. That leaves me with password protector, adobe reader, The Weather Channel, and Box (which, by the way, doesn't load anymore so it is pretty much useless). Now I have 8.81 used and 4.37 free. It's been said that the OS takes 2.5 gb. So what is the rest of this stuff and why can't anyone get rid of it without doing a wipe? Seriously, we have to do a wipe? All of my pictures, videos and music are on my SD card and it has 19.7 of 29.7 used. My pics, vids, and music is less than 12 gb. So why is my card full of that stuff, too?? And why am I yelling?!?! I've deleted everything that I can, even important things, cleared my cache and cookies, never downloaded games or Android apps, and never downloaded leaked updates. Why isn't Blackberry giving a solution? Or at least telling what this stuff is. Does anyone have any insight? Thanks in advance.

The sizes of the apps you deleted are not very large - FB 98MB. Twitter 8.4MB, Foursquare 13MB, Linkedin 5.7MB
Look in Storage and Access - Device Storage details - Storage - Pie Chart and list of apps.
Mine is System 2.55GB, Apps 1.68GB, User Files 63 MB, Free 8.89Gb.
I have 5 pages of apps, which includes 8 android apps.
Pictures and videos are all on sd card.

  • Use BD disk for data storage?

A blue ray disk can hold 25gb  of data as opposed to a DVD 4.7gb.
Is there any way I can store standard original footage AVI from an old DV camera via firewire on a BD disk and use it later on for
archive or editing some time in the future?
That way I could store a whole DV tape on a BD disk.

Yes. Use a program, like the great, free ImgBurn to do BD-Data discs. Just Copy your files/folders to the blank disc.
You might want to see this ARTICLE, however. Just something, possibly potential, to think about.
    Good luck,

  • How to use a 2nd partition for data storage?

The 40 GB hard disk on my satellite L10 was delivered with two 20 GB partitions (drive C and D). I now understand (by reading this forum) that it is preferred to use one partition for data storage.
Until now there was no need to use the D-drive. But by now I need the extra space.
How can I use the folders structure in windows XP home (My Documents etc) and put the data on the D-drive.
We work on this computer with several accounts.
I tried to move one folder out of My Documents to the D-drive, but then it can be reached by the other users. Should I use shortcuts towards the D-drive? I hope there is a simple solution.
    Thanks in advance.
(I tried my best to write this in English....)

    Hi
I didnt tried it before but you can try to make your personal folder on D partition. The notebook administrator should set the security settings that can be found under folder properties. Go to Security tab and check all permissions for other users. Choose Deny option for all of them.
I believe that on this way you can use your data folder alone and be sure that other users can not read or execute any of your private data.
Please let me know if it works properly.
    Bye

  • Ipod as data storage?

i had an ipod nano before and it worked fine as data storage. but i don't see my ipod-touch when i open "my computer". i'm trying to carry some files that are not ipod-supported and access it somewhere else like a portable hard drive or a usb flash drive.

if i want to open a file at another computer, i'd need to install this software on that computer as this software does not have a function to allow my ipod to be accessed like a flash drive. i was hoping to open a file where the computer does not have any internet connection and that makes it impossible to open the file i want. not sure if you understand this. but thanks anyways.

  • HT1363 My old iPod Nano says to use iTunes to restore and I've followed all suggested help steps, but I can't get it into disk mode nor can I get it to show in my computer or in iTunes.

My old iPod Nano says to use iTunes to restore and I've followed all suggested help steps, but I can't get it into disk mode nor can I get it to show in my computer or in iTunes.  I have the latest version of iTunes.  Windows has all the most recent updates too.  I can reset the iPod, but the message to Use iTunes to restore comes back and I am stuck.

Already tried another USB port, still nothing.
I don't have another PC to check, I only have one which is the one not working with my iPod.
It appears under my Computer, just not under iTunes. Plus, the iPod classic troubleshooting assistant doesn't work because I can't restore since it can't come up onto my iTunes! Even my iPod says "Use iTunes to Restore" once in a while, but I plug it in & I'm not able to restore it since it won't come up under iTunes.
    Please help

  • My iPod nano has a lock on the screen. How can I unlock and use my nano?

My iPod nano has a lock on the screen. How can I unlock and use my iPod?

Do you know there is the lock/unlock thing on the top or bottom right? If that doesn't work, hold down the middle circle and top portion of the circle button at the same time and hold until the screen goes black. Let go and soon an apple will appear. If you wait / press some buttons (i am not sure exactly how this part works) it will turn white and then the screen will appear again. You have all your music and everything still but the problem should be gone. This also works if your iPod ever freezes.

    Check for hardware issues
Try to restore your iOS device two more times while connected with a cable, computer, and network you know are good. Also, confirm your security software and settings are allowing communication between your device and update servers. If you still see the alert when you update or restore, contact Apple support.

In the iTunes window, when I update my nano ipod, I get an error message "User ipod cannot be updated.  The disk could not be read from or written to."   How can I overcome this error message.

    Hello there dilip77707,
It sounds like you are getting this error message that your iPod cannot be read from or written to when you are trying to update your iPod Nano. I recommend the troubleshooting from the following article to help you get that resolved. Its pretty straight forward, just start at the top and work your way down as needed:
'Disk cannot be read from or written to' when syncing iPod or 'Firmware update failure' error when updating or restoring iPod
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the very best,

  • Can Multiple ipods use the same computer/itunes program

I recently purchased two ipods for different family members. Can both be used on the same computer. I seem to remember seeing a blurb in the user agreement for itunes that said the program was only for one ipod. Can anyone elaborate?

When the iPods belong to different people, there are basically three ways of using multiple iPods on a computer and these involve:
    a) Sharing a single iTunes library
    b) Creating Multiple Libraries in a single user account
    c) Creating multiple user accounts.
Note: When you are sharing an iTunes library, you don't have to set each iPod to update in the same manner, you can mix and match from the options below as each iPod has it's own update settings
Sharing a Library and/or User Account
If you want to share the one library, you can set either or all of the iPods so that they only get updated with only certain playlists (you can update from more than one if you wish): Loading songs onto iPod automatically - Windows
Choosing the update option "Sync Music - Selected playlists" allows you to create a playlist specifically for the iPod and drag the tracks you want into it. If you tire of the list and want to change it, you just add or remove the songs you don't want. The ones you take out out remain in the library to be used some other time if you choose. You can read more about playlists at these links:
iTunes: Creating playlists of your favorite songs
How to create a Smart Playlist with iTunes
Or you can choose to update any or all of the iPods manually and just drag whatever content you want to them: Managing content manually on iPod
Loading the iPod shuffle differs slightly but it can still be used with the others, for details have a look at this page: Loading songs onto iPod shuffle - Windows
    Multiple Libraries
It's also possible to have multiple libraries in a single account. To create or access a second (or more) library, hold down the Option key (or Shift key in Windows) when launching iTunes 7. In the resulting dialogue you will get the option to create a new library or navigate to the other Library.
Note: You can only have one Library open at a time and iTunes will default to the last library opened if you don't use the keyboard command to choose one. This can prove tricky when using multiple iPods, if you don't use the keyboard command you can risk syncing to the wrong library: Using multiple iTunes libraries -Windows
    *Separate User Accounts*
Another option is to create a separate User account for each person on your PC or Mac. Different accounts by definition would give you completely separate libraries. Each account has it's own iTunes folder, Library and iTunes Music folder and you load it with CDs etc just as you did with your original one. The iPod can be set to update however the owner chooses, sync all, manual or sync specific playlists
I don't use Windows so I can't give you a step by step on that one, however I can point you to another web page which should help you out. You can read about Windows user accounts here: Create A New User Account In Vista
