Can no longer authenticate SMTP server in Mail

After updating to 10.4.3, the httpmail plugin stopped working in Mail, so I downloaded it again and reinstalled it. Unfortunately, as I have read in many other posts, httpmail doesn't work well with 10.4.3. That part I can deal with. However, Mail was then not responding to a POP Road Runner account. It wasn't sending or receiving mail, but it didn't give any errors. It just did nothing. I would have to force quit whenever I wanted to quit the app.
I deleted the Mail preference files, but still it didn't work. I then reinstalled Mail from the Tiger DVD and started from scratch, only I now cannot send mail through the POP account. When I set up the new account, it says it cannot connect to the outgoing mail server, even though it is the correct one (I've double and triple checked with Road Runner). What's going on? I've tried both ports 25 and 587, but still no luck? Road Runner tech support was less than helpful, saying maybe it's a problem with the router, blocking port 587, but there was never a problem before.
Can anyone help???

UPDATE: I was able to set up the account using Eudora, and it worked fine. I guess it means that there's something funny happing with Mail.

what is the smtp server info they have told you to use?
in Mail>preferences>accounts, make sure your TW account is selected in the left hand side of the window, then go to the Account Information tab, then go to the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) option at the bottom of that window, click on it, and go to Edit Server List, what is showing as server name? an if you click on Advanced, what is the server port, is SSL checked, and is authentication set to password, and if so do you have the user name and password entered?

  • I can no longer attach aperture files to mail messages. Why?

Before the last aperture upgrade I was always able to select an image in my library and use the share command to attach that image to my mac mail message. Now the email opens but no photo is attached. it is a blank message. I know there is an icon in the right hand corner to access aperture files but this is not as convenient on large libraries.
    Is this a bug?

Yes, I have always done as you have shown:
"File→Share→Email", "right-click→Output→Email", and "{Option}+e" all create a new mail message with the selected Image(s) attached after being exported using the Image Export Preset specified in "Aperture→Preferences→Export".
But for some reason after Idid the lastest aperture update a couple weeks ago (and I am still using snow leopard), I now cannot get files to show up in my messages.
I can attach files while I am in macmail. And I can drag files from my desktop, but I can no longer get files by doing the file>share>email navigation through Aperture.
    Anyone else have this problem?

  • TS3408 I can no longer receive or send e-mail on Safari, or search using Bing.  When URL's are typed in and entered, there is no response.

Safari is apparently frozen.  I can no longer receive or send e-mail on Safari, nor search using Bing.  When URL's are typed in and entered, there is no response.  Obviously, I can still use Firefox for these needs, but how do I get Safari back to work?

I have the same issue - it worked once, then the error pop-ups keep coming asking for the same darn password I gave it and saved 100 times before. Anyone else find a solution? I use my earthlink for outgoing and that works but would rather use godaddy since I pay for it.

  • Mail to blocked SMTP server stalls mails to other SMTP servers

    Hi,
I have a particularly weird problem.
In Mail.app I have a Mobile Me account, a personal IMAP account and an Exchange account (working over IMAP etc. as it's Exchange server 2003 so I don't get all the fruity Snow Leopard/Exchange goodness).
The problem I have is this- in the office they block access to external SMTP servers (quite rightly).
If I send a mail through my Mobile Me or personal IMAP account and forget to tell it to use the internal work SMTP server then Mail.app will sit forever trying to connect to the external SMTP server and never time out (or if it does timeout it must be more than a few hours).
This isn't a huge problem in and of itself. However from this point on any mail I send will sit behind the stalled e-mail in the queue and never go out- so even my internal mails hang around not sending.
The only indication of this is the non-stop spinning wheel on the sent items folder and the never-ending 'Connecting to smtp.me.com' in the activity window.
The only way to resolve this is to go to the activity window and cancel all connections to the offending SMTP server. At that point the 'Outbox' folder will appear in my folder list and show me all of the e-mails it hasn't sent. I then have to open each one individually and click send again, at which point they go out (provided they still have the correct internal SMTP server selected).

    Ernie,
Thanks for the response. I have previously seen Mail.app fail to send and bring the message back up telling me this- but that usually happens quite some time after trying to send, if at all, and I don't recall ever having this error happen in the office (where they are blocking these ports).
I have had similar issues when travelling and trying to send through hotel networks that typically block port 25- even then I rarely get a failure message (note that this has been happening both on 10.5.x and my clean install of 10.6.x)
    I did check to see if the network here was doing some spoofing on SMTP ports but it isn't;
    #####:~ #####$ time telnet smtp.me.com 25
    Trying 17.148.16.31...
telnet: connect to address 17.148.16.31: Operation timed out
telnet: Unable to connect to remote host
    real 1m15.019s
    user 0m0.002s
    sys 0m0.003s
I get the same 1m15s timeout on port 465 & 587, yet Mail.app never seems to give up trying.
I tried sending to an external SMTP server without SSL to see if the behaviour was any different- but after 15 mins it's still trying so I guess not.
    Weird.

  • I can no longer get to my e-mail from MY pc computer.

I can no longer get my e-mail from (MY) PC.  This started happening about a week ago.  I have Win 7 Pro,  IE 9, Icloud 2.1.1.3, and I normally use Thunderbird instead of Outlook.  TB says problem with loging in to server.  I then tried Icloud.com, can log in just fine but when it starts to load mail, a message comes up that says "There was a problem loading the application" and the report message says 'a possible network error or missing resources'.  I can use a different computer and get my mail just fine from Icloud.com.  TB also sends mail just fine.  Can anyone help?

  • Can't connect to SMTP Server

Since upgrading to OS X Yosemite 10.10.3 I am no longer able to send email via my SMTP server. The SMTP server is the AWS SES service http://aws.amazon.com/ses/ and the smtp server name is email-smtp.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com.
Apple Mail refuses to connect to the SMTP server. I have previously managed to resolve this issue by following the instructions described at part 2 of http://osxdaily.com/2014/10/28/fix-mail-smtp-sending-errors-os-x-mac/.
However since upgrading to OS X Yosemite 10.10.3, if I modify the Accounts.plist file as described, Apple Mail just overwrites my changes as soon as I open it.
I am certain that my SMTP credentials are correct as I was able to successfully connect to the SMTP server using these credentials prior to upgrading to version 10.10.3 of OS X Yosemite.
As things stand I am unable to send any email via this SMTP server.
Any help would be very much appreciated.
    Matthew

    Try this:
    Menu "Mail", select Preference
    Click on Accounts
Near the bottom, click on the button "Server Settings"
See if the check box for SSL is checked; if it is, try un-checking it, then close everything and try mail again.
Explanation: When I'm at work, and use my Mail app as an IMAP account, I need to have SSL checked as we use SSL inside the building. When I travel, and use a hotel internet connection, some hotel ISPs won't allow SSL, so I have to un-check it to send email.
    Hope this helps...

  • Can I change the smtp server with Yahoo push account?

My yahoo email account will send and receive over EDGE using the default yahoo mail settings. On my home Cox internet WiFi network I can retrieve messages but cannot send. When sending it says it was sent and makes the "swooshing" mail sent sound, but the message disappears. It does not appear in the "sent" folder or "drafts" folder either. No error message is returned.
I suspect this is related to Cox blocking the smtp server, but the iPhone does not allow me to change the smtp settings on the default yahoo account. Does anyone know how to do this? I can set it up manually for POP access, but then I'm flooded with spam.

No, you cannot change the SMTP server on the Yahoo push account.
Yahoo push only works if you configure your account using the Yahoo! Mail shortcut on the iPhone, and that shortcut does not allow for ANY customization.

  • Can't connect so smtp-Server since Mavericks update.

    Hi there,
I am not able to connect so my work smtp-Server since I have updated my system on MBP Late 2012. I also have an Mac Mini for Homeoffice.
Exacly the same accounts are working at my Mac Mini with OS X 10.8.5 -but not with OS X 10.9-.
    What I tryed to fix:
copied all certificates from Mac Mini and paste (replaced) the certificates in my MBP.
I deleted my Mail-Folder (Library) at MBP and paste the Mail-Folder from Mac Mini.
I deleted the File com.apple.mail.plist at MBP and paste this file from Mac Mini.
    Nothing of it works :-(.
I also created a "Test"-User-Account in my OS and typed the maildatas into this Account.... still doesn't work.
I deleted the System-Log and run a connection test in Mail App.
    This is the Log:

OK, I was having the same problem and disabling SSL didn't work for me. Other solutions suggested in other forum threads also didn't work, but I've finally found a solution that works for me. Here it is in the hopes it will help other people:
In summary, I realized that the root of the problem was, as mentioned in the original post above, that the SSL certificate wasn't being accepted (-9807 Invalid certificate chain). This was because the SMTP server's certificate was expired. I did not want to try to convince my provider to fix it - instead I wanted to fix it myself on my end.
The solution was to import the SSL certificate to my keychain and flag it to "Always trust". However, getting the certificate was a bit tricky, as Mac Mail was not giving me the option. Here's how I did it:
    1. I downloaded and installed Thunderbird (Mozilla's mail client, Firefox's cousin) and configured my problem email address there.
    2. I tried sending an email from Thunderbird and then I got a pop-up saying that the certificate was not valid. On that pop-up, there is an option to view the certificate and then export it. So, I chose to export it to a .pem file (used option "with chain") to my desktop.
    3. I dragged the .pem file and dropped it on my keychain icon on the dock (double clicking on it should work too). Then Keychain Access popped up (it imports the certificate automatically) so then I flagged the certificate as "Always Trust" and saved it.
After doing this, I was able to send SMTP email from Mac Mail.
At this point, you can remove Thunderbird, but first see the note below.
Note: Is this only works intermittently for you, it may be that you are being served by more than one SMTP server, so in that case  you would need to do this for every one of them (import every certificate and flag as "Always Trust".
    Hope this helps others.

  • Problems using smtp server in Mail

Hi, I'm using Mail on my iMac (Leopard) with a POP account for my incoming mail, and an smtp-server for the outgoing mails. Everything works fine.
Now I've also bought a new MacBook. I setup the Mail account exactly the same as on the iMac. I can recieve mails, but not send them? When I use Connection Doctor in Mail I get green markers for both incoming and outgoing servers. It says that the connection with the smtp server is fine. Still when I try to send mail it gets stuck in "Sending...", no error messages, nothing.
When I go back to the iMac, I can still send without problems.
    Anyone have any solutions?
I can add that if I connect my 3G module for mobile internet to the MacBook and change the smtp server accordingly to that service provider, it sends mail without problems.

  • Windows Users can no longer connect to Server

I have an Xserve configured to share via AFP and windows. It is running Open Directory as an Open Directory master. It is connected to a Windows Network that is worldwide, running in a specific subnet and domain. Recently, all the users I have configured on the machine have been migrated to a new Active directory server for their email accounts. I can connect and authenticate against the open directory using AFP, but can not connect using windows file sharing from a Windows computer, nor can I connect using SMB from a mac. Shouldn't the users be authenticating against the Xserve when trying to connect or is it passing off the authentication to another server? Do I need to move the Xserve to the new domain? (in other words, do I have to change its FQDN? )
    thanks in advance,
