Can NO longer connect thru router thru modem

Hi Guys (and other Gals),
I am running 2 Windows XP Pro SP2 PCs that were wired to a Linksys WRT54G v.6 Broadband Router (with both 4 Wired ports and wireless capability) to a Verizon furnished Westell C90-610015-06 Rev. E, DSL modem. All was working peaches, both PCs worked great thru their wired connections to the router - then to the modem.
Wham Bam and the setup no longer works!! I seriously believe that Verizon has changed something(s) that they are not admitting to, in the last 2 or so months. I can plug directly from modem to either PC to and it works, but as soon as I interject the router - nothing, no connection, zilch!
Spoke with Verizon people who had me go thru some steps to "Bridge" the modem, (they didn't know what to do to the router or just wudn't admit to it), but nevertheless it wouldn't work! This was very late one weekend night. Came back to computer the next morning and plugged in directly from modem to PC and "that" wouldn't work, so had to spend 45 mins on phone with verizon again explaining everything again till they walked me thru resetting up the modem but would not do a thing for the router.
Called Linksys - no help, router was out of warranty, told me to download their documentation for help. I have now over 25 linksys docs telling me how to set up a router for connection, etc. 3 different ones just for setting up router for DSL connection. None of them work thru the router then thru the modem!  I had someone tell me to set up the router with a static IP account, that required some info from verizon that I cud NOT get from them. I guess they don't train the Indians on all that they need to know?
Okay, I have been rambling on but I am so very P.O.'d it is ridiculous, as for all the time I have wasted on this verizon debacle!
As it stands now, I am connected directly from modem to one PC, 2nd PC and router are just sitting here gathering dust.
can anyone PLEASE give me some much desired and appreciated help to get this network working again, Please?
Please go slow and bear with me as I am a "newbie" when it comes to this networking lingo and such!
Thank you so very much!
sincerely,
Sue

I figured out the answer to the question. The Verizon tech had me reset the wireless router, thus all setting were moved back to the default stage. He then could not figure out why the laptop still would not connect and said to call HP, and if that did not solve the answer (HP said nothing wrong with laptop,as I said), I could call tech service and pay a fee. Luckily, after searching and searching, I found that if you reset your wireless router, you have to enter the new settings on all devices connected to the network. I write down all the info from the desktop and entered it onto the laptop. Connected immediately. Here's my one complaint about calling tech support, the tech should have told me to reset all devices. Someone not willing to take the time or accept the answer that a three month old laptop was too old, would not have taken the time to search for an adequate answer to fix the solution, therefore, the easiest way would be to pay the tech support fee. If you contact tech support and the answer they give you does not sound right, search on your own. While their are good tech support agents at Verizon, this one should have given me an adequate response to reset.

  • Can no longer connect to wireless router after upgrading to iTunes 9.2

My wireless connection was fine (using MacBook). After upgrading iTunes, I can not longer connect to router/modem wirelessly - am tethered with an ethernet cable. Spent 1 1/2 hours on phone with AT&T support reseting the passwords, security, etc. A PC laptop accepts password and can connect. My iPhone still can connect. But my MacBook (OS X 10.6) will not recognize my password for the modem/router. Everything has been re-booted and reset to original settings. Also, I received an iPad yesterday and it won't accept the password for our home wireless network. The password is correct because I am using it on other devices that are connecting to the network. Any ideas?

Yes, but the issue is not with Lion directly; there seems to be something with the upgraded system, perhaps a legacy setting or pref... I've scoured the system to no avail. I'm actually about to reinstall 10.6 - wasted too much time on this issue.
    Thanks for your help.

Have you tried rebooting the router? Unplug it for about 30 seconds and then plug it in again.
Turn Wifi off and on on the iPad? Reset the network settings? Forget the Network?

  • Airport extreme. XP outlook can no longer connect

Since October My wife and I can no longer connect to our office servers using outlook on PC's via Airport extreme wireless. Both our g5 and g4 have no problems.
The PC's indicate excellent signal and status says "connected "thru our VPN connections to the office.
Both PC's suddenly stopped working this connection thru outlook and the internet.
I noticed many discussion people are in the same boat.
    What happened?
Seems odd this is not getting much remedy information.
    Sounds widespread.
Are there truly any technical resolutions?
I suspect something in the latest XP updates, CAT login patches etc.
My IT office guy is an amazing craftsman and he could care less about a Mac router.
They ("Windows" OS people) are so sure of themselves...little hope they might suspect there own equipment.

    Two things to try:
...Ensure the appropriate NLTM authentication is enabled? Probably NLTMv1.
Server Admin -> Open Directory -> Settings -> Policies -> Authentication
...Ensure that the Microsoft Windows XP clients have a compatible authentication requirement?
This security settings authentication downgrade is set via an msc widget on the higher-budget Microsoft Windows XP variants, or directly via the LMCompatibilityLevel registry knob available within all Windows variants.
With the upper-budget Windows versions, you can run the secpol.msc tool, navigate to Local Policies - Security Options, then to Network Security: LAN Manager authentication level, then (if the box is set this way) switch from "Send NTLMv2 response only" to "Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated".
On all Windows XP versions including the lower-budget versions, you can use regedit to switch the HKEYLOCALMACHINE\ SYSTEM\ CurrentControlSet\ Control\Lsa registry key value LmCompatibilityLevel to 1

  • I set up Airport Express as Client, I can no longer connect to my wlan

I set up Airport Express in Client mode so that I could use Airtunes. My Router/modem is a netgear one and I use WPA.
I can no longer connect to my wireless network from my ibook.
If I plug in the ethernet to the router I can. I can also then see from the router that Airport express has connected itself to the router.
So what do I have to do to be able to reconnect to myibook to the WLAN?

Double-check these settings on your iBook:
System Preferences > Network > Show > Network Port Configurations
    - Verify that an AirPort option exists. If it does not, click "New" to create one. - Verify that AirPort is "On" (checked)
    - Verify that AirPort is at the top of the list. If it isn't, you can drag it to the top.
Systems Preferences > Network > Show > AirPort
    AirPort tab
    - By default, join: Automatic
    TCP/IP tab
    - Configure IPv4: Using DHCP
    - Configure IPv6: Automatically or Off
    Proxies tab
    - Configure Proxies: Manually
    - Select a proxy server to configure: <All proxies should be unchecked unless you specifically require a proxy for Internet access.>
    - Exclude simple hostnames (unchecked)
    - Bypass proxy settings for these Hosts & Domains: <leave blank>
    - Use Passive FTP Mode (PASV) (checked)

  • WRT54G ver. 6 can no longer connect to the internet after reset

I reset my WRT54G ver. 6 to clear the password, and now I can no longer connect to the internet with it. I can see the router itself from my PC, but that is all. I've followed the directions here for connection problems, but I can't seem to get an IP Address for it in the Web Configuration tool. Anybody have any thoughts?

Since you reset your router, you need to reconfigure it back again. try the online utility that automates the configuration. download Easy Link Connect utility at www.linksys.com/connect then download "Netset" and follow instructions.
if not Easy Link connect didnt work then you need to do the configuration manually.
    1. check physical connection modem should be connected wired to internet port of the router then PC to numbered ports of the router.
    2. Brighthouse i believe is cable connection, right? try power cycle your devices (turn off modem and router then turn on modem 1st then router next). check if your online.
    3. if not. check PC ip. click "start" then "run" type in "cmd" then press "OK". the command prompt should pop-up. type "ipconfig" and check IP and gateway. you should be getting an ip: 192.168.1.x and gateway: 192.168.1.1
    4. access router. open IE, then type in http://192.168.1.1 on address bar.
    5. you will be prompted with username and PW. "admin" is the default password. on setup, just below are subtabs. select "MAC address clone". in it, set "mac clone" to "enable" then click on "clone" then "save settings".
    6. power cycle devices again. try to go online
note: if you dont have latest firmware. try updating if needed

  • IMac Can No Longer Connect to the Internet

My parents use a 2006 Intel Core Duo iMac (the 17", 1.83GHz model) running OS 10.6 (Snow Leopard). They typically connect to the internet using a wireless network set up using an Airport Extreme with RCN as their ISP.
As of yesterday, the computer can no longer connect to the internet, while all other computers in the house, both Mac and PC, still can. I've tried power cycling the modem and the router, connecting using ethernet, and connecting the computer directly into the modem. Thus far, none of these attempts have succeeded. I've taken a look at the network settings for the computer and while networking is most certainly my thing I wasn't able to detect a change. As a last ditch attempt I tried using Google's public DNS service, rather than RCN's default, but that made no difference, so I've reverted it.
I realize that the information available in this thread is almost certainly too little to guess at what the problem might be, but I'm more than happy to fetch information that might be helpful in finding a solution.
Thanks for taking the time to read the problem; hopefully there's an obvious solution.

JJ247 wrote:  I typically say a restore would correct any software issues but your drive is dead.
"Drive is dead????" what in this thread gives you that idea? What card might be failing?
Agent: do you have any Input Managers (might be called Input Methods) either in the Home Folder/Library or in the HD/Library (not /System/Library.)
Yes, do try another Account and test for this there.
I know you've already tried Google DNS, but try OpenDNS
You don't need to go to the OpenDNS site to use OpenDNS. Simply open Network>Advanced>DNS in Sys Prefs and enter the following numbers for the interface you use, e.g. Airport or Ethernet,
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
Hit OK and then Apply. Make sure those numbers are entered above any others you may have there.

  • Apple TV can no longer connect to network after upgrade.

I had heard that lots of people were affected with this problem with the software upgrade before this one so I deliberately waiting until this one came out before taking a chance. I was wrong.
After updating to 4.4. (3140) I can no longer connect to my network. It says there was a problem and gave the error messaged number: (5) in brackets.
I've had nothing but problems with both Apple TV's that I have owned, version 1 and this new version 2. I've a good signal from my router and I've used three different ones over the time I've had the two apple tvs.
    Anyone got any ideas.
I can't connect the apple tv directly because they are too far apart in the house. I can only connect by wifi.
There is nothing wrong with my wifi because I'm connected to it fine though my imac, iphone and ipad and laptop, (not all at the same time)

Ok, here's a solution, courtesy of our friends at AppleCare.
Unplug the router for 90 seconds.
I was running ATV2 with a Time Capsule.   The TC thought the ATV was still connected using its former IP address so wouldn't let it reconnect with a new one.
Hope this works for anyone else with same problem.

  • IBook can no longer connect to wireless network

I have a wireless network set up in my home using a Linksys wireless router. While it has worked fine in the past, I can no longer connect to it with my G4 iBook running 10.3.9. It shows up in my network connections with a strong signal but when I open a browser it can't connect to the internet. When I try to open 'Internet Connect' to explore the issue I get the spinning beach ball and have to Force Quit. When I open the network status window, I get a message for Airport that says "Airport is connected to the network 'name of my network'. Airport does not have an IP address and cannot connect to the Internet".
I have an iMac G5 connected to the router through ethernet cable and it works fine. I have an iMac G4 connected wirelessly to the same wireless router and it works fine. I have a Dell laptop that can also connect wirelessly to the wireless router with no problem.
It appears something is corrupt with the Internet Connect utility?
Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.
    Doug

What type of IP address are you getting? If it starts with 169, it indicates that your iBook can not connect to the DHCP server provided by the router.
Have you enabled the MAC address filtering on the router? If so, remember that you must add the AirPort MAC address for your iBook.
If you have a correct IP address, perhaps it is a DNS issue. See KB 106798, Mac OS: Troubleshooting "A connection failure has occurred", "The specified server could not be found" or Similar Messages.

You can make FaceTime calls using the FaceTime app. You can call FaceTime users whose contact information is in Contacts. You can add contacts and edit contact information in either FaceTime or Contacts. To place a video call, you may use a phone number or email address.
If you encounter issues making or receiving FaceTime calls, try the following:
Verify that FaceTime is enabled in FaceTime > Preferences. If the issue persists, or if you see the message "Waiting for Activation", try toggling FaceTime off and then on.
Verify that the Date, Time, and Time Zone are set correctly:
From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences > Date & Time > Date & Time.
    Enable "Set Automatically".
Click the Time Zone tab and confirm the closest city is correct.
Verify that both parties are connected to an active broadband Internet connection.

  • Can no longer connect to ASA 5505 (serial or ssh)

I have an ASA 5505 running software version 8.0(4) that I picked up a while back. I had just finished configuring it via the serial console. I confirmed that DHCP addresses we're being pushed out on the VLANs, made a couple of minor tweaks, and confirmed that I could ssh into the ASA on the appropriate VLAN. After that I issued a write to save the config and took the firewall downstairs to replace my cheap little router.
After hooking it up, I started checking my machines only to discover that none of the machines on any of the vlans were getting IP addresses. I assigned a static IP on the VLAN with management access but I still couldn't connect to it. A packet capture showed zero traffic coming from the ASA. I grabbed the ASA and hooked it back up via a serial console but now I can no longer connect to it. The power & status lights are on. Plugging in cables turns the link lights on in front and back and they flash indicating activity. When I unplug the ASA I see a single odd character show up in putty over the serial connection.
I'm out of ideas. Is there anything else I can do?
    Thanks.

Step three of the password recovery option says, "During the startup messages, press the Escape key when prompted to enter ROMMON," but that pre-supposes that I'm seeing some output on the serial console. I'm seeing nothing at all (until I turn off the ASA then I see a single odd character).
Despite not seeing the usual console output, I've tried hitting repeatedly Escape as indicated but I'm still not getting any output. I've even tried other baud rates.
Thank you for the suggestion. Other ideas?

  • Can no longer connect to the internet with the 580...

Hi, my PC was able to connect to the internet with my 5800 via a USB cable.  Now, I can no longer connect to the internet with the 5800 via a USB cable.
I had never tried connecting the computer to the internet with the 5800 via Bluetooth prior to this incident, so I tried that.  Strangely, it works.
My question is how come I can no longer use the 5800 via USB as a modem, but how come the 5800 via Bluetooth still works as a working modem?
Sorry, if my sentences are confusing.  I have a terrible headache at the moment.  While the Bluetooth connection works, I just feel better using the USB connection and knowing that my 5800 has a clean bill of health.
BTW, my PC is on Windows 7 Professional at the moment.  I've tried uninstalling the Ovi Suite and reinstalling it, but that didn't work.  I've also tried using PC suite instead of the Ovi Suite but that didn't work either.  What other options do I have, beside hard resetting the phone?  Thanks in advance.
Edit: BTW, the message shown when I tried to connect to the internet with the 5800 USB modem was "failed to establish a network connection".

I have nokia 5800,and I used to connect my phone to PC by USB cable.
But from last 5 days I could not able to connect it.
    The problem is that,
when I connect phone to pc,notification comes up that phone connected via ovi suit, but within  a minute or 2,
"porable device" icon disappears from the task bar in the right hand corner,so connection could not proceed further.
Please help me in this asap.

  • Updated to iOS 7.1.2 - Can no longer connect to WiFi

There is clearly a bug introduced after updating to iOS 7.1.2 and I inadvertently repeated this mistake on two iPhones (5 and 4S).
Immediately after updating to the latest iOS, I was experiencing sporadic WiFi drop outs, especially for short time immediately after taking the phone out of standby.
Then I attempted someone's 'brilliant' suggestion of selecting "Forget Network" and then adding it back in. THAT was a huge mistake because after doing that and reconnecting to my WiFi network, everything seemed fine until I woke the phone (iPhone 5) from its next standby. Since then, I can no longer connect to my WiFi network. In fact, no WiFi networks in my vicinity appear! In order words, I am now completely reliant on my limited data plan!
To make matters worse, because of this screw up, my cell data plan exceeded my 3 GB usage and I had to pay $60 in overage for July! I am not happy!
This is made even more outrageous considering that Apple hasn't acknowledge this issue!
BTW, I have tried and wasted a LOT of time trying each of these so-called Apple remedies:
    Blog entry titled, "
How to fix Wi-Fi issues on your iPhone or iPad after updating to iOS 7.1.2"

    AmishCake wrote:
There is no need for Apple to acknowledge anything, because it is not a bug.
Yeah, I've seen the play out before with past iOS updates (re: unresponsive slide to unlock/cannot answer calls). Thousands of people complain but the AFB's jump all over them by calling them newbs or worse. Then Apple releases a patch and the problems quietly disappear. It is kind of annoying to see this replay! Please don't be so sure that it isn't a bug. The fact is, Apple made patches and despite the homogeneous nature of iPhones, there are still literally millions of possible ways that iOS patches can affect some phones but not all phones. You cannot claim unequivocally, that this is NOT a bug.
So you are suggesting that all the complaints about this issue are imaginary?
As it relates to my situation, I have two iPods, one iPad, two iPhones, a desktop, and an Android tablet.... only the two iPhones lose the WiFi connection (during standby) and these devices were both updated to iOS 7.1.2.
Solution: It's the WiFi on my router that is at fault?
    AmishCake wrote:
Millions of people are NOT experiencing this issue. Have you tried rebooting your router by unplugging it for 30-60 seconds?
I never made any claim as to the number of people affected. Besides, even if only 50 people posted messages to this forum, the number of people who do not participate in the Apple forum far outnumber the people who do.
With all due respect, I appreciate your attempt to help. In fact, to humor you... I will power off my router, just like you describe (can't hurt... it hasn't been powered down in about a year now).
I'll reply back with a "thank you", if your suggestion worked.
