Can no longer connect to PC AIM user - error -8

I really didn't want to post this, since there are so many others with seemingly the same problem. But in my case I used to be able to video chat perfectly fine with several people who are using AIM on a PC. Within the last few months I haven't been able to connect with any of them. I had assumed that the problems had occured on their end, but now I'm not so sure. I've been doing some intermittent troubleshooting, but today's events hopefully can shed some light on the problem.
My dad is running AIM on his PC. We've been able to video chat for over a year until this recent spate of problems. Today I asked him to try to connect to the Apple test servers. He can successfully connect. So can I. But whenever he invites me to chat I get the usual 'communication error' dialog. I've posted the log below. On my end the only thing I can think of that has changed over the recent months is my update from OS x.4.8 to x.4.9. I'm connected via a cable modem to a Netgear router (WGT624 v3). In the Port Forwarding section of the router's configuration screen it has a default entry for AIM (as well as some others). I've got this enabled for this computer. It is using 5190 for both the start and end ports. I've also got the UPnP turned on. This is how the router has been set up forever. So it has worked with this configuration. I do not have the Mac's firewall turned on, nor do I believe it has ever been on. My QT is set for 1.5mbps.
My father and I are both using Optimum Online for our ISP. He is also able to connnect to my sister in Boston via her PC and AIM. That's all of the connection details I can think of offhand. I'm posting the most recent log here in the hopes that someone sees something obvious. Thanks in advance.

Yes, many thanks to Ralph.
I did have a successful chat connection with my Dad a few minutes ago. He is on AIM 5.9. I'll probably have him update to 6.1 as we now know that version is compatible with iChat.
I did one further test. Part of my troubleshooting earlier involved having a successful chat with my dad while using my Powerbook G4. That computer connects wirelessly through the same router. Since that connection was successful while the SPI was still enabled, I was wondering if it was the other change that Ralph suggested (deleting the Port Forward for this computer). So I re-enabled the SPI and asked my dad to connect to me. It failed the first time, but then worked 2 more times after that. It's dinner time now, so I'm going to stop pestering my dad for a while. But I do want to make absolutely sure that it still works. Worse case is we disable the SPI again.

All of a sudden I can no longer connect to iTunes store. There is no error message - it just hangs.

After 3 years of happily using iTunes store all of a sudden I can no longer connect. There is no error message, the attempted connection just hangs. Why?

I ran the iTunes diagnostic and got a positive result - I am, apparently, in contact with the Store. But I still cannot connect. I have carried out all ther suggested operations ... and still cannot connect! The diagnostics gave me the following report:

After upgrade to 10.7.1 users can no longer connect to shares

Ok , im not an admin to start off, but after upgrading the OSX lion server to 10.7.1 i can no longer connect to the sharepoints on my mac mini server.
Through SMB or AFP .. i tried using the connect to server on one of my clients and when i attempt to log in , it shakes the login window as if my password were not accepted.
Heres where it gets a little confusing to me, i have 2 mac mini servers both running OSX LION SERVER 10.7.1 .... The one that I CAN NOT LOG INTO is my OD Master... the second one is just used for file sharing...
WHEN i attempt to login into the file share server (which is connected to the OD Master which is rejecting my user logins) i can connect JUST FINE and access the sharepoiints on that server...
A couple more weird things... on the OD MASTER (again the server which is rejecting all user logins) I CAN login with my admin credentials and access the sharepoints... ??
-- when i am locally logged into the OD MASTER server, if i add a new sharepoint from scratch and edit the ACL , NONE OF MY USERS SHOW UP nor any of my user groups... it only allows me to add the Administrator access to that share..
Have i done something very wrong somehwere? this server that is having a problem is only used as a OD master and File share nothing else..
I did not change any settings besides add a new mac mini server to the OD and performa the 10.7.1 upgrade.
ANY HELP WOULD BE HUGE as i have spent a 12 hours trying to figure this out before i resort to a re install.

I've only one hint to you, cause I've mot on Mac-Server.
With 10.7 Apple have switched from Samba (maybe due to licence problems with GPL based stuff) to a own protocol called "XSMB"
This had caused problems with some NAS systems too.
Eventually someone have a glue to solve that, as several users have problems with SMB shares since that.

Windows user can no longer connect to my File Sharing IP address

Hello,
Since updating to OS X 10.4.9, Windows users can no longer connect to my file sharing IP address.
I have had no problems when I was using 10.4.8, and I have re-checked both the Windows computer and my Mac to make sure that the file sharing connection should be possible.
I think this may be some sort of firewall / security issue (?) in that the 10.4.9 update has downloaded something which now "hides" my Mac at this IP address. I am unsure how to resolve this problem.
Does anyone have a suggestion? Much obliged, in advance.

Can the Mac connect to the PC?
Have you checked the Workgroup is the same on the Mac
in Directory Access>CIS/SMB?
Have you tried turning off the Firewall for a test?
Has the IP changed?

Thank you for the suggestive questions above. I haven't "tested" any of them because I simply became exasperated with the "change" in 10.4.9 and went back to system 10.4.8
Of course, now everything is right with the world and I can once again have my Windows computer connect to my Mac.

Can no longer connect to Windows XP Home Network

I recently upgraded to Mavericks and just noticed I can not longer connect to my Windows XP Home Network. Besides sharing files I also print through that network, but it's not just the printer that's afftected. In "Finder" I see the Home>Office Folder but I can't connect to it. I deleted the printer and tried to re-add it but I get a message saying that the server my not exist or is unavailable.
It's been a long time since I set this all up so I don't even know where to look and/or begin.

There is a problem with connecting to a shared printer on Windows XP from Mavericks. But you should still be able to connect to a shared folder, although my testing was with Windows XP Pro, not Home. One thing you do have to ensure is that the Windows user account has a password. You cannot connect to a shared folder on WinXP if the Windows account has no password.

Can no longer connect to SMB server after upgrading to Lion

We have a MacBook Pro that was running 10.6.8. The user upgraded to Lion, and can no longer connect to a Windows 2008 file server. (We have two offices connected through a hardware tunnel, but i do not think this is the issue.)
We have tried to connect in the Finder (smb://[email protected]/). It asks for usr / pass, and then just hangs on "Connecting to server"
We can ping, have tested these credentials on other computers, and tried other credentials on this computer, to no avail. Furthermore, we installed a fresh copy of Lion on another computer, and successfully connected, so I don't think the issue is with Lion itself.
There must be something from the previous install that did not "upgrade" properly, but I don't know which file / setting it could be. It is system-wide setting, as we have also tried another user account on this same Mac.
We've also run Onyx to fix permissions, clean out all caches, etc.
Any idea what file i can change, modify, or delete?
Your thoughts would be much appreciated.

Yes, but the issue is not with Lion directly; there seems to be something with the upgraded system, perhaps a legacy setting or pref... I've scoured the system to no avail. I'm actually about to reinstall 10.6 - wasted too much time on this issue.

Can no longer connect my MBP to a local file server

I can no longer connect to a particular computer on my local network from my MBP(Mid 2010 running 10.6.6). I am trying to connect to a Mac G4 tower running 10.4.11. This has worked in the past but now does not.
An older MBP(Mid 2007 running 10.6.6) has no problem connecting to the G4. My Mid 2010 MBP can connect to the older MBP. The Mid 2010 MBP can also connect via smb to a PC on my local network. All of my systems can connect as clients to the Mid 2010 MBP.
The G4 does show up in the Mid 2010 Finder window sidebar under Shared. I can ping the G4 from the Mid 2010. I can even ssh into the G4 using the CLI from the Mid 2010. When I try to connect to the G4, either via the Shared Icon in the sidebar or via Cmd-K, I instantly get a "Connection failed" message. I have, via afp, tried both the server name and the IP, both of which work fine on the older MBP. No effect. I ran full Applejack on my Mid 2010. No effect. I reapplied the 10.6.6 Combo Updater. No effect. I deleted all references to the G4 in my keychain, but the "Connection failed" message comes before any attempt at authentication. Grasping that straw had no effect. I do have Snow Leopard Cache Cleaner but hesitate to nuke all my caches before trying something else. Ideas anyone? Thanks.

I forgot to add: I also tried a different user account on the Mid 2010 MBP to connect to the G4. No effect.

AD accounts can no longer connect to Lion AFP File Shares

I am running into an issue where AD users can no longer connect to AFP file shares. If you attempt to authenticate with one of our Lion server's local accounts, you connect without any issues, but if you put network credentials in then you get the window shake denial. This issue just came up this morning. I attempted unbinding and rebinding the machine, updating from 10.7.2 to 10.7.3, removing and re-adding share point permissions, turning file sharing off then on, and still no network account authentication.
Anyone have any advice for how to get network credential authentication to AFP filesharing working again?

You could enable the AFP server access log:
sudo serveradmin settings afp:activityLog=yes
and then look at log at /Library/Logs/AppleFileService/AppleFileServiceAccess.log
to see if that offers any clues.

Can no longer connect to certain shares after upgrading to 10.8.4

After upgrading to the latest version of Mountain Lion, I can no longer access certain shared volumes. I have one machine running 10.4.11 and I can connect to its hard drive. Another machine on my network runs 10.5.8, and I can now only connect to the built-in hard drive. There are also 2 Firewire drives connected to that (10.5.8) machine that I can no longer connect to.
When I use "Connect to Server" and enter the AFP address of the 10.5.8 machine, I get a full list of "available" shares, but if I select one of the FireWire volumes, I just get a spinning "rosette" for several minutes and then a failure message. I also have an OS 9 machine that I can no longer connect to on the same network.
I already read the "Connecting to Legacy Systems" notice and still no joy after following the instructions.
Can anyone help?

No NAS other than an Apple one includes native support for AFP. They all use an open source package called Netatalk that is junk. Many years ago Apple deprecated the old security modules that Netatalk uses.
The easiest solution is to hack up Lion so that it will connect with the old security protocol. Do a search for "lion dhx2" or something like that. Another option is to update your NAS to a version of Netatalk that includes support for DHX2. That is easier said than done. Netatlk isn't as "open" as other open source packages.

Turn your Wi-Fi router off and on2. If your ISP also provides cable or phone service, check with them before attempting this step to avoid interruption of service.

Had the same problem this morning after updating to 10.8.2. Mail was finding my dot-mac account as always, but System Preferences popped up and said my iCloud password was incorrect. Did the "forgot password" reset, but still had the same problem. Then I went to icloud.com in Safari, logged in with the new password, it worked no problem. So I went back to the icloud preference pane, signed out of icloud, answered yes to all the warnings about data being deleted from my mac, blah blah blah, then re-signed in to icloud. Everything worked. I did have to set up my icloud account in Mail again, which now lists the account mailbox as "iCloud", and not "mac.com" as it did before. But so far, everything is working (fingers crossed.)

Apple TV can no longer connect to network after upgrade.

I had heard that lots of people were affected with this problem with the software upgrade before this one so I deliberately waiting until this one came out before taking a chance. I was wrong.
After updating to 4.4. (3140) I can no longer connect to my network. It says there was a problem and gave the error messaged number: (5) in brackets.
I've had nothing but problems with both Apple TV's that I have owned, version 1 and this new version 2. I've a good signal from my router and I've used three different ones over the time I've had the two apple tvs.

Ok, here's a solution, courtesy of our friends at AppleCare.
Unplug the router for 90 seconds.
I was running ATV2 with a Time Capsule. The TC thought the ATV was still connected using its former IP address so wouldn't let it reconnect with a new one.
Hope this works for anyone else with same problem.

No, it is not a known issue. It is a known non-issue. Try resetting your IMAP login ID and password. Both the incoming and outgoing. If that fails delete the account reboot the phone, and add it back.
