Can no longer connect to shared folder via Samba (10.5.8)

I used to be able to connect to shared folders on my leopard (10.5.8) PPC machine via Samba.
Now, when I choose "Go to Folder..." from another machine and enter the correct URL (smb://192.168.0.XXX), I get a list of all the volumes and users, including public folders of some users, but the share point (shared folder) I defined does not appear.
I tried moving that folder around (it was in /Users/Shared/, then I put it at root / ), removing and re-adding, turning file sharing and samba off and on multiple times, and restarting the computer.
Nada.
Any ideas?

It seems I resolved this by changing the name of the folder I wanted to share, and adding that. No idea why it didn't like the previous name, but that seems to have worked around whatever the issue may have been.

  • Can no longer connect to remote server via VPN

I recently installed OS 10.5.8, and have found that I can no longer connect to my server at work. The VPN itself (via PPTP) works fine, it's just that when I try to connect to the remote server (via Connect to Server) I get a dialogue saying 'A volume failed to mount.' A further dialogue says 'Sorry, the operation could not be completed because an unexpected error occurred. (Error code -6602)'
Has anyone found a way around this, please? I'm disabled and I need to be able to work from home – without the connection I'm stuffed! Obviously I've tried rebooting the machine etc, but nothing seems to help.
Thank you for any assistance you can give.
    Kitty.

For some random reason this connection has begun working again – please ignore the question!

  • Afp sharing bug with static IP ? cannot connect to shared folder via wireless router

Does anyone ever try this ?
i got 2 macs (imac snow leopard 6.6 and macbookpro leopard 10.5.8). connect to a wireless router using UTP cable and set using static ip , connection  is ok, ping is ok, ftp between two mac is ok, browse the internet is ok. But i got on problem , i can't connect to shared folder. Error : 'connection failed' . i can see the other mac's icon on the shared section in finder, but i can't connect to it. The problem is fixed if --> The only way  i can connect to shared folder is if i changed the ip from static to dhcp. Or if i want to keep my static ip, i have to connect mac to mac (using crosscable or airport) without the router , then the sharing folder will work fine.  Anyone got similar problem? The problem only happen while sharing using afp and smb method. I have no problem with ftp, ftp sharing is working perfectly in any situation above.
My conclussion : afp sharing is having problem when apply with static IP and connected to router (or wireless router only ??) is this an afp bug on snow ?
    Any idea ?
    Thanx

I did pay the 12 dollars, but I think the program remembers with the free one.  If you didn't ever have to do port forwarding in the past, then you likely won't have to do it again.  I couldn't get modern warfare to play properly without it.  But your situation might be different.
If you had it in the DMZ, then that is a work around to doing port forwarding, so that will still work for you as it did before, and if you reset it properly, then yes you will have to put the ps3 back in the dmz.
just keep in mind if you changed your WiFI SSID or Password, it will reset to the default, and the default is found on your sticker that is on your router.

  • Upgraded to Yosemite, can no longer mount Mac shared folder on Windows 7 pc.

At the weekend I upgraded to Yosemite, and really liked the new look.
There is a folder on my mac which is shared over SMB so that it can be mounted as a network drive on a Windows 7 system. This has worked just fine for years, but then after the upgrade I found that I was no longer able to connect to the share. When I tried to remap the share it just kept asking me for password over and over again and failing to connect.
Windows could see the Mac was there in its workgroup, but not let me access it.
I tried on a Linux system, which could also see the Mac, but not mount the share.
After spending hours trying to figure this out, I wound up restoring my system from a backup made the day before.
Once I'd rolled back to Mavericks, the share worked just fine again.
Any ideas? Because if I can't map to this shared area on my Mac, then I can't upgrade to Yosemite.

  • HP 8500 ALL IN ONE - CAN NO LONGER SCAN TO SHARED FOLDER

I have had an HP 8500 all in one scanner / printer for a while and have not had any problems with,
Yesterday the printer hung so I reset it.
I am using ethernet (wired) as opposed to wireless.
When I reset the printer it gave it a new ip address of which I reconfigured back to the address of my network ie 192.168.7.xxx
I am able to print and scan from the embedded printer web page but when I scan to my shared folder, the printer cannot conect.
    Does anyone have any ideas?
I think it may be something either to do with the network path or possibly the sharing permissions fo the network folder.
Thank you in advance for any assistance that can be provided.

Hello there @DAVIDA64, welcome to the forums
I read through your post about the issues you are having with scanning to your network folder. My best suggestion would be to check out the guide below and set up your scan to network folder again.

  • IPhone and iPad can no longer connect to iTunes Libary via Remote

Up until a couple of hours ago, I had no problems controlling iTunes on my MacBook Pro via my iPhone or iPad. Now, on both devices, I get an error saying it can't connect to my Library.
All devices are connected to the same network. I get the error whether my firewall is on or off. I have tried re-adding the Library. When I do so the relevant device shows up in iTunes and the pairing process SEEMS to work. It tells me that my iPhone can now control my library, but it still can't connect.
    I've tried rebooting the router.
All devices show the same ip address for the router and all are on the same subnet.
I've just upgraded iTunes to 10.2.1 and everything on the iPhone and iPad has the latest upgrades.
Also when I go to the iPod app on my iPhone and go to More -> Shared -> and then my library, I get an error saying "Cannot Connect to Media Libary"
I've seen this advice, "You must also have the iTunes preference "Look for iPod touch, iPhone and iPad Remotes" enabled. " I cannot find this preference anywhere. It's not something I've ever looked for before so possibly the name of it has changed in a recent iTunes release. Can anyone tell me if I'm looking for the right thing and where I might find it?
    Any other ideas?
Anyone else with a similar problem that has cropped up recently?

Hi Everyone, I found a solution to this problem with no "Look for iPod..." option.
Check "Allow iTunes Audio Control from Speakers"
    Then, RESTART iTunes.
Heres a picture of what to check off:

    Should Work.

  • Can no longer connect to hard drive via HH3

    Hi,
Please can someone help me....the bt customer services have been the least useful people ever and had me pulling my hair out
I have an external hard drive plugged into my HH3. First plugged it in, in December, set it up, connected to it with all my computers and laptops via (map a network drive). Worked flawlessly until a few weeks ago. Now all of a sudden I cannot connect to it.
I have tried mapping to it, but it is no longer there. However if i login to the BT Home Hub it is appearing there as a connect device. Have deleted it from here and then plugged it in again. That didn't work..
Have tried both ip addresses suggested: 192.168.1.254 and .253 but neither worked.
Have plugged the hard drive directly into my laptop and it is working fine. Something has changed somewhere, after a firmware upgrade on the home hub maybe?
    Any suggestions?
    Many Thanks.

Are you trying to power the drive from the hubs USB port, or does it have its own external power supply?

  • Can no longer connect to shared drive for Time Machine backups

I have  a Firewire drive connected to my iMac and sharing enabled. 2 MacBook Airs then connect wirelessly to the same network and backup to the drive.
It has worked perfectly for the last couple of years with Lion and Mountain Lion.
Yesterday I upgraded to Mavericks and now neither laptop can see the shared drive in Time Machine, although the drive displays quite happily in Finder.
I have disabled and re-enabled sharing.  Booted and re-plugged the drive in and still when I go to Time Machine preferences and select drive, nothing is listed.
    Any ideas?

After hours and hours of constant searching and testing I still can't get it to work?
    Any ideas?
I think sharing has changed in Mavericks.

  • Can no longer connect to Mac index via FTP

The other computer on my LAN is running Ubuntu Karmic and I can FTP to it no problem. Used to be able to FTP to my Mac no problem until I tried this free firewall software which claimed to have a decent GUI. I made sure to remove the software completely using the TrashMe app when I decided it was useless, but have not been able to reconnect from my Linux machine to Mac via FTP. I can ping the Mac no problem and have also gone through all the basic troubleshooting steps: turned off the firewall and tried - nothing, turned the firewall back on - some story, restart, rebooted router, release/renew IP (not that that would help but what the hey).
Anyone else experienced similar issues? Any suggestions as to next steps?

    Hi. Try this:
    - Open System Preferences
    - Open Sharing (not sure if is this name)
    - Activate Share Files (or file sharing...)
    - In Options button, you got to check FTP and the users (below) that will be able to access
Voilá... hope this works for you!

  • Windows 7 Users Can No Longer Connect to Shared Xserve Drive

We've had multiple computers (both PCs and Macs) setup to use a shared Xserve. All the sudden today the mapped network drives stopped working. I've tried using the "Map network drive" option on Windows 7 to add them manually again, but every time I enter the username/password it says it is not correct. I'm mapping the drive to Z and the folder to '\\10.10.10.77\shared' which is the Ethernet 1 of the Server followed by folder name on the Xserve that worked before. I'm confused what username and password it wants here because I've even reset the Xserve passwords and they still don't work and it says underneath that the Domain underneath is the name of the current PC user...
What's going on here? Am I using the correct Folder format and with the correct username and password? This is driving me crazy!

After hours and hours of constant searching and testing I still can't get it to work?
    Any ideas?
I think sharing has changed in Mavericks.

  • ITunes 8: I can no longer connect to remote speakers via Airport Express

Cannot connect to my remote speakers, worked before iTunes 8"
I have restarted the computer, iTunes, QT 7.5.5, run disk utility
I get the following error code (-3256) Apple KB research says:
AirTunes: Error -3256 when streaming to multiple AirPort Express units
You may see this message: An error occurred while connecting to the remote speaker speaker_name . An unknown error occurred (- 3256 ).This occurs with iTunes 6.0.2 or later.SolutionIf you use a third-party firewall or router, make sure that it is configured to permit UDP traffic.
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303157
I followed the KB link, tried KB solution, then I sent this off to Apple.
"Mac G5 2.0 Ghz, OS 10.5.4 just installed iTunes 8, one (1) Airport Express connected to remote speakers. Firewall under Sharing in System preferences does not offer firewall access. Firewall is under Security but "Advanced" is grayed out.
Cannot connect to my remote speakers, worked before iTunes 8"
I have restarted the computer, iTunes, QT 7.5.5, run disk utility, unplugged the airport express.
My G4 PowerBook running an earlier version of iTunes connects without problem.

I just got off a 30+ minute phone call with an Apple Support rep about this. I'm getting error -3256. The rep was patient and tried hard to solve the problem, but was basically clueless. I have a case number and was encouraged to call back tomorrow to speak with a product support specialist.
This stinks. AirTunes is my primary way of playing music from my computer. With no obvious way of rolling back to iTunes 7, this is a big deal.

  • I can no longer connect to the internet via Airport Extreme.  HELP!

Over the weekend my Macbook told me that my Airport extreme firmware needed to be updated, so I did that, now I have no internet connection from the Airport. I have no problem connecting to the Airport itself, but I have no actual internet connection. The connection is fine when I plug an ethernet cable directly into the computer.
I really hope someone can help with this!

Hi DaveX83 and welcome to the discussions.
    A few things to try.
Press the reset button once on the back of your Extreme and let it restart. Check for proper operation.
If no help there, keep the ethernet cable connected, and open Airport Utility. Click on Manual Setup near the bottom of the pane. On the next screen click the Airport icon at the upper left of the pane, then click Wireless in the line just below that reads Summary - Time Capsule - Wireless - Access.
Check to see that your wireless is set up, security set up, passwords, etc. You may need to reconfigure your wireless settings again and update the Extreme to store them and restart.
    Hope this helps.

  • 58" Cloud TV...can no longer connect to Windows computer via MediaShare

Have a Dell all in one and 58" Toshiba Cloud TV. Love the TV, but have had nothing but trouble with the MediaShare function. Sometimes it finds the computer on my network, sometimes not. Now won't at all for the last week. Have tried rebooting computer, TV, and wireless router. No effect. Dell is running Windows 8.1 and has file sharing and network discovery turned on.

mcafee is a horrible piece of software along with norton the only reason they have tons of users is because they pay pc makers to preinstall it and most nonTech users just pay up after the 30days of free virus scanning
