Can no longer connect wirelessly to BT Home Hub

Macs...start straight from the box, all the software you need, ready to go....erm, except if your machine worked fine before you upgraded to Snow Leopard and now you can no longer use your expensive mac laptop wirelessly.
The internet is full of people identifying a glitch in SL. NO, its not the router - my old iMac G5 connects fine, as did this new shiny, now useless MacBook... before I upgraded to SL and the wi-fi went.
Outraged? Annoyed? Disgusted apple can't/won't fix it? You bet. This is plainly ridiculous. Please, can somebody offer some help (in simple non techie language please) and also tell me how to unistall SL, so I can go back to Leopard if none of the fixes work and do simple stuff that even pc's can manage, like wireless. One word: RIDICULOUS! Thanks in advance for your help. regards, Exasperated.

It's not guaranteed to help, but you might try the three suggestions in the second message of this thread:

  • Can no longer connect wirelessly with other computers

I have an iMac and a Macbook Air.  For some reason I can no longer connect wirelessly between the two. They don't show up in Finder.  Therefore I can't use "Remote Disk" on my Macbook Air to install programs.
Recently I switched from using an Airport router to a Cisco router. Could this be the problem? I can still connect to the internet through my wireless network, but can't find my computers.

    Hello,
All the information you need is printed on the back of the Hub. There are two passwords, one for the Wireless setting (WPA password) and one for access to the hub (Admin password).
    (Taken from http://www.jarviser.co.uk/jarviser/images3/newhubpswd.jpg  ).
If you have forgotten what you changed the admin password to, then I'm afraid you're lost and you should factory reset your Hub:

  • I can no longer connect to my pc home sharing

I have been using my itunes on my HTPC as my media server for my atv2 for months without issue, but after a power outage i can no longer connect to my HTPC.  It shows up under "computers" but it will not connect.  I didn't change any firewall settings or anything, so there is no reason that I can think of for it to just stop working out of the blue.
I have tried logging out of home sharing and logging back in.
I have tried resetting everything (routers, computers, apple tv, etc)
I have tried the ATVs wired and wireless
I have de-authorized and re-authorized my computer, but I still have the same problem.
I have 2 ATV2s and I have the same issue with both.
I have a new macbook pro and the home sharing works on it.  I can use airplay from my ipad, MBP, and the HTPC, but just can't use home sharing.
I have tried everything that I can think of.  if you have any suggestions, please let me know.
    Thanks

@puebloryan, I realize this thread is a bit old, but I have encountered a similr problem and wondered if you had found a solution. I've been using home sharing from itines on my PCs for years, but two days ago, it suddenly stopped. I can share from my Macs, but not from the ONE PC library where I keep all my tunes. I tried all the usual trouble-shooting measures.
After turning home sharing off on the PC's iTunes, turning it back on and turning some other settings off and on, my Macs and Apple TV could briefly "see" the PC library, but as soon as I try to connect -- the wheel spins for a bit and then the connection vanishes. It's as if they try and then give up.
Since this sounds so similar to your problem, I was hoping you finally found a solution. I am also starting a new thread. Thanks!

  • Can no longer connect to Windows XP Home Network

I recently upgraded to Mavericks and just noticed I can not longer connect to my Windows XP Home Network. Besides sharing files I also print through that network, but it's not just the printer that's afftected. In "Finder" I see the Home>Office Folder but I can't connect to it. I deleted the printer and tried to re-add it but I get a message saying that the server my not exist or is unavailable.
It's been a long time since I set this all up so I don't even know where to look and/or begin.
    TIA

There is a problem with connecting to a shared printer on Windows XP from Mavericks. But you should still be able to connect to a shared folder, although my testing was with Windows XP Pro, not Home. One thing you do have to ensure is that the Windows user account has a password. You cannot connect to a shared folder on WinXP if the Windows account has no password.

  • Apple tv can no longer connect to Windows PC home computer

Apple TV could no longer connect to Windows 7 PC home computer.
This happened after several Windows updates and Mcafee updates.
After reviewing the web for people with the same problem, I found that you can get your Apple TV back the way it was by:
    1. Remove Mcafee and install Microsoft Security Essentials (free from the Microsoft website), then
    2. Start the Windows Firewall from the Control Panel, then
    3. Click on the left pane click on "Allow a program or feature through the Windows firewall", then on the new window
    4. Click "Change Settings", click Yes to the pop up window, and
    5. Select both Bonjour Services one at a time, and check the box that says "Home/Work(private)" network. Click OK at the bottom and you are done!
I was thrilled when I got my Apple TV back to normal.
    Good luck.

mcafee is a horrible piece of software along with norton the only reason they have tons of users is because they pay pc makers to preinstall it and most nonTech users just pay up after the 30days of free virus scanning

  • Can No Longer Connect Wirelessly to HP Photosmart D110 after Comcast All-in-One Modem Upgrade

    Hello,
I just replaced my former modem +router setup with a new "all-in-one" "Wireless Gateway 1" modem from Comcast (model # TC8305C). The setup guide for the new modem states: "The Wireless Gateway 1 is an all-in-one product that connects XFINITY internet and home networking. It provides wired and WI-FI connectivity, so there's no need for a separate router." I was previously able to connect wirelessly to the Photosmart D110 from my laptop. When I tried to update the network information on the printer sing the printer's Wireless Setup Wizard, the network name did not appear in the list of available networks. I added the name, as requested, and then added the network password associated with the new modem. However, the printer's Wireless Network Test Report said that "the printer cannot find my wireless router." Specifically, the Test said that the new network name was found, but said that the passcode was incorrect. I repeated the setup 3 times and did type the network passcode correctly. Will the printer not work wirelessly due to the new all-in-one modem? Is there a way to remedy this? I apologize for being pathetically non-technical, and would be grateful for any assistance! Thanks.

OK, first wireless Gateway (modem/router combo) units are terrible for wireless connection. It is always, always best to use a separate modem and router in your network that YOU have control over instead of Comcast. If you have your old router it would be best to call Comcast and have that Gateway put in Bridge mode (disables the router section) and connect your own high quality router. With that said, let's try this. Set the router to a fixed wireless channel like 1, 6 or 11, never 'auto'. If you still can't connect, remove all security off the routers SSID. Now try to connect to your SSID with no security. Are you successful?

  • I Can No Longer Connect Wirelessly With My iPad!

About 2 days ago my iPad suddenly stopped connecting wirelessly to my BT HomeHub.
I have deleted all of the networks available to me and reinstated them, I have carried out a full Restore of my iPad and I have switched all of my equipment off and back on again.  But to no avail.
Although my HomeHub is ticked on the list of Wi-Fi networks on my iPad every time I try to connect to the internet to browse, get mail or listen to the radio I receive a message stating "Connection failed.  The internet connection appears to be offline".  On occasions I get a BT Wholesale error message!  This happens whether I try to connect via my HomeHub or BTFon or BT Openzone etc.
This is VERY inconvenient as it makes my iPad just an expensive photoframe!
Incidentally, my BT HomeHub no longer recognises my password.  This has made me forget which is the correct password for accessing my HomeHub.  Is it the Wireless Key (WPA)?  Or the Admin. Password?  I've tried both of those and neither work.
Why oh why do electronics have to go wrong when I need them most!

  • Can no longer connect wirelessly to hub

Until today everything has been fine. Now I cannot connect wirelessly to my hub. I get connection time out messages. Sometimes my hub does not even show up in the list of available networks. I can connect to BT Fon though. I've tried re-booting both the hub and my computer with no effect.
    I'm using an iMac OS X 10.5.5
    Can anyone help please.
    Solved!

    Hi
How do I do this if I can't get on to the Internet properly???
If you follow jjgraphics advice above and connect a wire (ethernet cable) from your hub to your PC/laptop you should be able to connect to the internet.
Funny enough I lost my wireless connection on my  home hub2 last night.
Even though http://www.metageek.net/products/inssider insidder could still see my wireless signal was on a clear channel.
Using ethernet wired connection I was able to still connect to the internet.
I used the button on the side of the Home hub2 and turned both laptops off but still not able to connect to the internet using wireless... even re-entered my wireless key.
The solution was to turn the power off the Home Hub for a minute or so and on turning the hub back on everything worked again.
Btw don't forget Christmas lights can cause wireless problems.

  • Can No Longer Connect Wirelessly to ITunes With My IPod Touch

While I can connect to the Internet with my IPod Touch through my router, I cannot seem to connect to ITunes wirelessly. My device only shows when I have it connected through the cable directly. The Apple help site hasn't been much good, as they suggested to completely uninstall ITunes (I followed their instructions implicitly) and re-install. Same problem. Not sure if this has anything to do with the new OS....but it's suspicious.

    Diolacles wrote:
Not sure if I was included in this question, but I'll answer anyway. My computer that I have ITunes on is hard wired into the router, which makes sense since it's on my computer desk But as I said, wireless works fine so It's logically not the IPod, it's not the router, so it has to be either the new OS or ITunes.
I have Rogers Cable and a Cisco Modem/router.
How do you quote posts on here?
    Yep, you were included...
To add a quote, click Reply, and at the top of the reply window is a tool bar.  Click the icon to the right of the smiley face....
Funny thing is, my desktop is hard wired too, but for grins and giggles I put iTunes on one of my laptops, and used the laptop to reset my iPod to factory settings.  Wireless synch still didn't work....
What really aggravates me is when you go to the KB to find out how to troubleshoot an issue, the articles are pretty much blank.  Click here, set that, but no real explanation of how stuff works or what can cause it to break....
One thing I have noticed is the KB article says that after you tell iTunes to use Wireless Synch if you don not eject the deivce, it will stay connected when you unplug it...  I never saw that behavior....

  • Can no longer connect to my wireless router in my home

Can no longer connect my ipad to my wireless router in my home

Have you tried rebooting the router? Unplug it for about 30 seconds and then plug it in again.
Turn Wifi off and on on the iPad? Reset the network settings? Forget the Network?

  • Can no longer connect to wireless router after upgrading to iTunes 9.2

My wireless connection was fine (using MacBook). After upgrading iTunes, I can not longer connect to router/modem wirelessly - am tethered with an ethernet cable. Spent 1 1/2 hours on phone with AT&T support reseting the passwords, security, etc. A PC laptop accepts password and can connect. My iPhone still can connect. But my MacBook (OS X 10.6) will not recognize my password for the modem/router. Everything has been re-booted and reset to original settings. Also, I received an iPad yesterday and it won't accept the password for our home wireless network. The password is correct because I am using it on other devices that are connecting to the network. Any ideas?

Yes, but the issue is not with Lion directly; there seems to be something with the upgraded system, perhaps a legacy setting or pref... I've scoured the system to no avail. I'm actually about to reinstall 10.6 - wasted too much time on this issue.
    Thanks for your help.

  • IBook can no longer connect to wireless network

I have a wireless network set up in my home using a Linksys wireless router. While it has worked fine in the past, I can no longer connect to it with my G4 iBook running 10.3.9. It shows up in my network connections with a strong signal but when I open a browser it can't connect to the internet. When I try to open 'Internet Connect' to explore the issue I get the spinning beach ball and have to Force Quit. When I open the network status window, I get a message for Airport that says "Airport is connected to the network 'name of my network'. Airport does not have an IP address and cannot connect to the Internet".
I have an iMac G5 connected to the router through ethernet cable and it works fine. I have an iMac G4 connected wirelessly to the same wireless router and it works fine. I have a Dell laptop that can also connect wirelessly to the wireless router with no problem.
It appears something is corrupt with the Internet Connect utility?
Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.
    Doug

What type of IP address are you getting? If it starts with 169, it indicates that your iBook can not connect to the DHCP server provided by the router.
Have you enabled the MAC address filtering on the router? If so, remember that you must add the AirPort MAC address for your iBook.
If you have a correct IP address, perhaps it is a DNS issue. See KB 106798, Mac OS: Troubleshooting "A connection failure has occurred", "The specified server could not be found" or Similar Messages.

i have tried to "forget" and rejoin but that has not worked either.

Did you already try to reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button until the Apple logo comes back again?
Did you try to reset the network settings on your device?

Had the same problem this morning after updating to 10.8.2. Mail was finding my dot-mac account as always, but System Preferences popped up and said my iCloud password was incorrect. Did the "forgot password" reset, but still had the same problem. Then I went to icloud.com in Safari, logged in with the new password, it worked no problem. So I went back to the icloud preference pane, signed out of icloud, answered yes to all the warnings about data being deleted from my mac, blah blah blah, then re-signed in to icloud. Everything worked. I did have to set up my icloud account in Mail again, which now lists the account mailbox as "iCloud", and not "mac.com" as it did before. But so far, everything is working (fingers crossed.)
