Can no longer discover Bonjour printer  after logic board replacement

Since the logic board in my MacBook Pro was replaced, I can no longer "see" or print to an HP Laserjet 1200 printer connected to the USB port of my AirPort Extreme (ie, using Bonjour). The printer is not listed when I attempt to add a printer via the Print & Fax dialog. A Windows Vista laptop using the same network can print OK to this printer wirelessly, and I can print OK to the printer if I disconnect it from the AirPort Extreme and connect it directly to the USB port of my MacBook Pro. However, I can no longer print to this printer via a wireless connection. My internet connectivity is fine.

Took my MacBook Pro and AirPort Extreme to the Mac shop this morning. Technician was able to connect a USB printer to my AirPort Extreme and print to it from my MacBook Pro just fine. He suggested I do the following at home:
(a) Use a new cable to connect my AirPort Extreme to my USB printer
(b) Remove battery from MacBook Pro, put it back, then hold down power button for 6 seconds.
(c) Restart MacBook Pro while holding down Command + Option + P + R until I hear the chimes.
Tried all of the above steps at once, and my problem is now solved.

  • Can't open Aperture after Logic Board replaced

Have a question regarding obtaining new serial number for the Aperture program as after my mac (version 10.5.8)  had a Logic Board replaced
Aperture program ( 2.1.4) does not open as require serial number what I do no have anymore (all packaging gone long ago).
So if I  buy a copy of Aperture 2.1.1, it will give me a new serial number.
Will I be able to use that serial number to open the program I have (aperture 2.1.4)?
Or what is the best way to obtain images from the program i can't open anymore?
    Thank you

"Aperture 3 on your new Mac will be able to convert and to upgrade your current Aperture Library." - How ?
Do you have an external drive, where you can copy your Aperture Library to?
Make sure, this drive is formatted Mac OS X extended, before you copy the Aperture Library to it.
Also set the "Ignore Ownership" on this volume flag. (When you select your external drive in the Finder and use the "Get Info" command, you'll see this flag in the "Sharing and Permissions" brick.
You can simply drag the Aperture library to the external drive, using the Finder.
Then connect the drive to your new Mac.
Now you first need to repair your Aperture library - it is safer:
Select the Aperture library on the drive in the Finder. Hold down the ⌥⌘-keys and double click the library. Select "Repair Database" and let that run. That may take some time.
After this you should be able to double click the Library and to open it in Aperture 3 as regular library.
Without an external drive you need to copy using the Network or to mount your ols Mac in Target Disk mode http://support.apple.com/kb/PH3838?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US. Connect it to your new mac with USB or firewire and boot it with the T key held down.
Then your new mac will see the old one as external drive.
To extract only images from your saved Masters folder, select the Masters folder you copied in the Finder, then press ⌘F. In the search panel that opens add a search (press +) and set the search to "Kind is image".
This should show all images in the folder.
Caution! If the headline is set to "This Mac" and not to the name of the folder, you need to edit the preferences of the Finder. In the "Advanced" tab of the panel set the "When performing a search" to "Search this folder".
Don't touch any images in the search, if the heading shows "this mac". Then you are risking to move any image file on your mac.

  • After logic board replaced- SystemSerialNumb listed as serial number

I just noticed this.. I had my logic board replaced a few months ago. Now when I go to About This Mac, it lists my serial number as: SystemSerialNumb
The number is no longer there. I read about someone else who this happened to. Is there anyway to get the serial number back? I have it printed on my AppleCare.
The problem is now, if I can't prove this is my system, the one stated in Apple Care, how do I resolve that isse? Will I be able to ever get Apple Care for this computer?
    Any help will be appreciated.
    Bryan

    Hello,
I have a little trick for you below. But, first I'll explain how this feature works and why it doesn't.
The serial number you were seeing in the System Profiler is written into a chip on the logic board.
But, when they refurbish a logic board, they clear out this serial number. Since they have no way of knowing which system it's going to be installed in next, they do not re-program another number into the logic board.
So, when you get your refurbished logic-board installed, that location that contains the serial number is cleared.
Apple will often reprogram the number into the logic board on complete systems that they refurbish. But, it is not common for them to do it on the individual logic-boards.
Unfortunately, the only way to get it to display in system profiler again, is to re-program that serial number back into the logic board. And, Apple is the only one with that tool.
But, you can continue to use the serial number that is printed on the foot of your computer for all warranty related items. That number is still your "official" serial number. So, the number you use has not changed. It is just not visible in your System Profiler.
Now, there is a little trick to make your serial number display in the "About this Mac" window.
You can read about that here:

    I hope this helps.

  • Grey restart and program crashes after logic board replacement?

Apologies for if a thread already exists for this, I had a look around and nothing seems to quite fit the problems I'm experiencing-
I recently got the logic board replaced on a 13-inch macbook pro, osx lion, 10.7.5. I got this done because of the failure of one of the usb ports and the centre row of typing keys.
however (although the keys and usb now work), after the replacement, I have started to experience problems that weren't present before. These include:
programs spontaneously crashing, examples being safari, itunes, and photoshop
the computer spontaneously going into the grey textured screen and restarting all programs, but seemingly not initiating a full shut-down and restart
itunes has deauthorised me and claims that there are already 5 computers authorised to the account. No new computers have been authorised during the repair time and attempts to deauthorise and reauthorise fail, this was not present before the repairs.
video playback on youtube and similar sites can sporadically cut out completely, either freezing or causing the entire video 'screen' to white out or vanish
playback of other moving graphics such as gifs often is jerky or replaced with transparent or white frames
I've updated all my software to the latest versions just in case it was simply that I wasn't up to date with something, but to no avail. Is this a common error with a solution, or am I going to have to get the logic board replaced again? I'm still within my three-year warranty, but I don't appreciate the concept that I brought in my machine to be fixed, and it came back even more broken.
(safari crashed during writing this, here is the crash report in case that helps)

    There's a 90-day warranty on the repair.

  • Fans Now Kick on to "Cat 5 Hurricane" Speed After Logic Board Replacement

I have been around and around with this issue with tech support/product specialists and "Geniuses" at Apple Stores, and all I seem to be getting are shoulder shrugs from one and all.
I recently had to have my logic board replaced --and since doing this, the fans come on for what I feel are "innocuous" reasons --say just watching a YouTube vid or opening a "heavy" PDF, Safari being the ONLY app open.
Did not do this before the repair --I could certainly care less since I of course want my MBP to stay at its coolest, but the amount of noise seems to feel like trying to kill a mosquito with a cannonball.
    Anyone familiar with this issue?
    Thanks in advance

All those steps already have pretty much been taken, S.U. --since the logic board replacement was done at an Apple Store, I immediately took it back to the same Apple Store and the "Genius" ran through all those things --I'm still having to monitor what it's doing when they kick in, but the only thing unusual I see is when Safari goes right to the top of the Activity Monitor after clicking on the CPU column when I'm on one of these "innocuous" sites.
Since then, I've gone to yet another Apple Store, left my computer NEEDLESSLY there overnight (they didn't realize they didn't have the parts till the next day --not exactly sure WHICH parts --but the "Genius" thought it'd be a good idea to replace the fans --not sure how that makes any sense --I mean, the FANS work FINE --they just come on all the time!!) --took it back yet again and the "genius" (note quotes) decided it'd be a good idea that installing the newest version of Flash Player would solve the issue --what a surprise that it didn't!.
So here I still am --in a place where just going to the Corner Bakery website sounds like a tornado is about to hit.
Then today, I had a supposed product specialist @Tech Support tell me "so what's the problem? The fans mean they're keeping your computer cool" --I s**t you not!!
CMCSK, I couldn't agree with you more and have, in fact, had to take this to Apple Consumer Relations --who basically told me it's all up to the techs/"geniuses" to fix but they'd add a notation on the case to expedite should it require another repair (cause having my MBP [only computer] in the shop for a week to replace said logic board cost me dearly!!).
    BFD.
Of course, doesn't help matters that the timing of this is right at a time when you can't even get IN to the "Genius" Bar because of the whole post-holiday rush.
My AppleCare runs out in like 100 days --hope they can resolve this before then --don't laugh.
    This is really screwed.

  • Error: 4SNS/1/4000000:TGOD after logic board replaced

    Hi there -
I got my MBP back today, after having the logic board replaced to resolve the nvidea graphics card issue (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2377).
After working with it for about 40 minutes the screen went blank. I ran the Apple Hardware test on restarting, and got the following error code -
    4SNS/1/4000000:TGOD
I've given it back to the guys who repaired it for further testing. They said that their diagnostics arent showing anything, but the Apple Hardware Test has come back with this error each time. I've searched around for information on this error, and there are suggestions ranging from issues with the logic board to a thermal sensor issue.
I've found 2 threads in this forum where people have experienced the same sequence of events - logic board replaced for the nvidea problem, only to get this error code when the laptop is returned.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8633584&#8633584
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1850653&tstart=0
Can anyone shed any light on what the problem might be? Has anyone else had the same issue?
    Any feedback would be appreciated.

I can't find the thread, but I do recall one case where the person got to talk to a product specialist, who said that the sensors sometimes do not get precisely located where they should be after a logic board is replaced, as well as sometimes not being securely plugged into the logic board. I don't think the AHT error should be ignored. If the local guys can't figure it out, it may need to go to Apple.
    Good luck!

  • TM error after logic board replaced

    hey guys,
I've got a strange one. I had to have my logic board replaced in my Macbook Pro due to a nVidia graphics card dying. Time Machine was working like a champ before I dropped it off. When I got it back I got a TM error and it doesn't want to backup now. One thing that seems strange is that when I open a Finder window and then launch Time Machine, it's looking for files for Jonathan's Computer (2) instead of just Jonathan's Computer. (Yes, I'm Jonathan.) So it seems to be looking at some sort of duplicate or something. My backup files are on the TM drive and are searchable via Finder. However TM won't backup and I can't restore anything.
Any thoughts as to what may have been borked and how to fix it? Thx.
    Jonathan

    Jabulani Jonny wrote:
    However TM won't backup
Why not? It's likely because the extra full backup has filled your TM drive.
See item #C2 in the Time Machine - Troubleshooting *User Tip* at the top of this forum.
It will show you how to locate the message(s) that describe the problem, then help you fix it.
If that doesn't help, post back with details, including all the messages, your setup (especially the destination for the backups), what you've done, and the results.
Also note #C8 which addresses the Logic Board problem.

  • Loud fan after logic board replaced

I just had the logic board replaced on my 17" iMac after it would not power up (apple did it for free because they said it was one of the defective boards). The fan now is VERY loud. I have tried reseting the SMU, setting the CPU speed to something other than automatic. Nothing seems to work. Top say the machine is idle 95% of the time... Before the board was replaced it was VERY quiet... Any ideas?

Greetings and welcome to the Apple boards.
Miriam is right. Take it back and have it repaired correctly. We have good consumer laws in MA so they have three chances to get it repaired correctly or they owe you a refund or a new machine.

  • No serial number after logic board replacement, now problem to upgrade to Lion

    Hi, I have a MacPro 3.1
I replaced the logic board 16 month ago and it came back without a Serial Number.
It wasn't a problem a the time so I didn' mind.
Now my mac doesn't want to upgrade over 10.6.2, so not to mac osx lion either.
Any idea of how I can put the serial number back into my mac pro without sending it back for repair? I need it for work...
    Sorry for my terrible english.

  • Prompted to sign in to trial version of CS6 after logic board replaced

Hello. I purchased CS6 10 months ago and just had the logic board replaced on my iMac. Now, when I open Photoshop on that computer, I get a dialogue box "Sign in Required to use your trial version of Creative Suite 6 Design Standard". I did that, but I don't see a way to enter and validate my product installation code so that Adobe recognizes this as a legitamately purchased version. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Since sending the first message, I closed and reopened Photoshop and was prompted to either continue with the trial version or enter a valid license key. I did the latter, so hopefully I'm back in business.

  • Serial Number Missing after Logic Board Replacement

I have a xeon xserve (2007) here that had its logic board replaced under warranty. I am now trying a remote install of a new OS (10.5). While trying the first 8 of the server's original serial number as a temp password (in Server Assistant and ssh), I realized that the serial must have changed in the logic board swap. Of course, the plastic tab in the back still has the old serial and MAC addresses on it, but the guys at the repair place (tekserve) at least stuck one sticker with the new MAC address onto the back.
Now, I booted into the old OS and found that the system serial number is simply missing form System Profiler (Both GUI and CLI).
Is there a way to set a new serial? This is making the system virtually useless as a headless install.

The main board in my MacBook Pro c2d was just replaced with a board whose serial number was "System Serial#". I thought that might be the reason that Time Machine doesn't recognise my backups. I changed the serial to my original with the bootable "Blank Board Serializer , v.3T106, part number 693-6430" from
    http://spftp.info.apple.com/DiscImages/diagnostics/Apple_Service_Diagnostic/_ssps693-6430-01.dmg
Time Machine still wants to do a full backup. It has many reasons to not do what it's told.

Google Chrome caused the crash.  Uninstall and reinstall it and also delete all the personal preferences and add-ins from it.  Run with a basic load of it for a week and see if the problem comes back.  If not, start adding your add-ins back on one at a time and retesting for a few days each time until you find the cause.  If it remains stable, then it was problably something in the previous load of the app that caused it.
Apple shouldn't have replaced your system board based on this type of crash to begin with.  An OS reload along with app reload would have been more warranted to see if it isn't a simple software issue.

  • After Logic Board replacement Built in Display not working but External Monitor is

Had to replace logic board in my Mid 2009 17' MBP as it wasn't powering up at all.
Since putting in refurbished logic board MBP powers up and actually works perfectly with an external monitor but built in display is dead.
In 'About My Mac' initially it showed Color LCD as being connected., but now it doent.
Can anyone tell me if this is a problem of the refurbushed logic bioard from this ionfo - or if there is a w ay of being 100% sure that it is the logic board and not the display.

Shine a bright light at the screen and see if the picture is there, but the backlight is not there.
Working inside MacBook is very fussy work, and it is far too easy to make connections that seem fine, but do not quite work, or to disturb earlier work during re-assembly. Just to vex you even more, the screen connections go through the hinge area, and are subject to constant movement and stress.
I tend to first blame the last thing you changed (working inside your Mac in this case) as the source of the problem over random failure, until I can use classic techniques (such as substituting know-good parts) to rule random failures in or out.
If you did not follow proper grounding and static-elimination techniques, you can cause major damage inside. Tiny shocks can ruin electronics long before you feel the spark.

  • Failure after logic board replacement 3 months ago...

3-4 months ago, I had to take my MacBook Pro in due to the NVIDIA issue.
At that time, they replaced the logic board free of charge, since the problem was the topic of a recall.
Last week, that same machine started to misbehave again...a few seconds after booting and logging in, the screen will start flickering as if there were huge drops in the refresh rate, the UI becomes unresponsive and the only thing that can be done is power down the machine.
To me, it looks like another video processor issue, but who knows...
In California, what type of warranty extension does a repair imply?
There is no way I am going to cough up $1K to repair a 3-year old notebook.

    "3-4 months ago,"
Check your paperwork/receipt for the correct amount of time. Apple has a _*90 day*_ warranty on all of their repairs.
Your other recourse if you live in the USofA would be to call Customer Relations 1-800-767-2775 & plead your case with them.
If outside of the USofA, call Apple tech support in your country & ask +politely & firmly+ to transfer you to Customer Relations
