Can no longer do "pinch open and close" on MacBook Pro trackpad

Macs have a trackpad function where you can enlarge or reduce the size of the image in a window by using two fingers sweeping apart or together. (pinch open-close)
With the installation of Firefox 4, I lost this functionality.
I want it back.

  • I have macbook pro. The pinch open and close is not working in firefox 4, but works in safari. How can I get that feature back

To find pinch open and close and how it works in macbook pro go to the apple icon. Open system preferences and the choose trackpad. Each item is illustrated.

You can restore the zoom feature by changing the values of the related prefs on the <b>about:config</b> page.

    * browser.gesture.pinch.in.shift -> <b>cmd_fullZoomReset</b>

    * browser.gesture.pinch.out.shift -> <b>cmd_fullZoomReset</b>

  • The Apple trackpad won't except the "pinch open and close" command on Firefox version 4. It is configured correctly in the system preferences. HELP!

I am using the Apple trackpad with Firefox version 4. The trackpad won't "pinch open and close". It is configured correctly in the system preferences. It also worked in version 3. Anyone have any suggestions?

Do the related browser.gesture prefs on the <b>about:config</b> page still have a value set for those gestures?
Which Firefox function should be performed with those gestures?

  • Pinch open and close

Just got my MBP last week. Pinch open and close (to zoom in and out) works on pdfs, but not on photos in iPhoto. Am I doing something wrong? I have the box checked for it to work, obviously, since it works on the pdfs. Thanks in advance.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
It doesn't work while viewing items in iPhoto, you can set 'screen zoom' in TrackPad prefs which will and sometimes that's handy.

The zoom feature where you spread or pinch together two features on the Mac trackpad used to work on the last version of Ff, and I used it all the time to zoom in when text was too small. • Pinch open and close zoom (mac) not working in latest beta update

Anybody know why pinch open close for the mac track pad suddenly does not zoom in the lastest beta update?

I am typing out easy instructions for those that are new to entering values. I myself am no expert for sure. It took me awhile to figure it out and I got it to work. I was mad when the pinch to zoom didn’t work after I updated. Thank you '''cor-el''' for posting a fix.
    1. Go to a new tab, type in ''about:config'' hit enter
    2. Click the “I’ll be careful, I promise!” button
    3. Scroll down until you see “browser.gesture.pinch.in” right click on it and hit modify
    4. A drop down that says “Enter string value” appears type in ''cmd_fullZoomReduce''
    5. Click ok
Find the other ones and do the same. After you have entered all four you should see them in bold and on the right under value you should see only this cmd_fullZoomReduce part.
6.Once you have it all entered just close the tab and it should work.
I didn’t have to quit Firefox for it to work, but you may.
I’m using a MacBook Pro and it worked great, Hope this helps.
    Preference Name / Value
    browser.gesture.pinch.in / cmd_fullZoomReduce
    browser.gesture.pinch.in.shift / cmd_fullZoomReset
    browser.gesture.pinch.out / cmd_fullZoomEnlarge
    browser.gesture.pinch.out.shift / cmd_fullZoomReset

  • Opening and cleaning a Macbook Pro (retina 2012)

I have had my MacBook Pro retina for more than 2 years, without cleaning the insides yet
I have used it extensively, many hours every day, and there has been periods of daily smoking
Should I just order a screwdriver set (pentalobe?), open it and clean the fans etc.?
I assume warranty is already expired.
But will opening and cleaning it be complicated or risky business? I'm good with electronics, but Apple uses small and delicate screws/parts etc.
Should I use a swab, compressed air container, or will a vacuum cleaner do? (metal/plastic head; static electricity)

I would.  I open up my MBPs without fear.  I suggest that you place it on a large surface with a clean towel underneath.  That way you can slide it around without damage and when you drop a screw, it will tend NOT to bounce away.

Yes, unless you purchased Apple care which extends it to three years.

I do not consider it risky if you use patience and a little common sense.  You may also need a #00 Phillips driver and possibly a Torx driver.  Check the iFixit.com web site for disassembly instructions for you model and appropriate tools.  That way you will have an idea what to expect.  Swabs with a non-residue electronics cleaner and compressed air are good ideas.  A vacuum cleaner should be used very judiciously.
    Ciao.

  • IPhoto won't open and makes my macbook pro log me out!

The other day I used my camera's memory card to add new photos onto my iPhoto.  I had never done this before; usually I plug my camera into my computer via a usb cord.  The import seemed to go well and I was able to look at the photos I had added.  But, today, when I tried to open iPhoto, not only would it not open, but it caused my macbook pro to log me out of my user account!  I've tried deleting iPhoto's cache and preferences files, rebuilding the library with iPhotoLibraryManager and I even repaired the permissions on my hard drive!  Nothing helped!  When I click on the iPhoto icon, it doesn't even give me a pop-up message with an error.  My screen turns blue and then it has black and white vertical lines, and then I am back at the login page and my screen has dimmed to half brightness.  Then, when I log back in, it behaves like I have just started it up and has to load all the icon images and none of my applications that were open before are open anymore.  I have no idea what could be wrong!  Please help!

Go to the App Store and check out the Purchases List. If iPhoto is there then it will be v9.6.1
If it is there, then drag your existing iPhoto app (not the library, just the app) to the trash
Install the App from the App Store.
Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.

One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

  • Can you enable Intel VT-x and EPT on macbook pro 3,1

    Hi,
    Has this problem still ongoing?

    Hi,
I use the same kind of MacBook Pro but am also a newbie. So maybe I can give some hints.
    1) To automatically load a module, edit /etc/rc.conf and add the name of the module to the MODULES list.
    2) Did you add pommed to the DAEMONS list of /etc/rc.conf ? Works for me perfectly.
    3) I just strictly followed the Beginners Guide of the wiki.
    - added !snd_pcsp to MODULES in rc.config
    - installed alsa-utils
    - installed alsa-oss
    - added myself to the audio group
    - invoked alsamixer to unmute channels
    4) It can be configured in some files located at /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/ . I've never looked into that because I use an external mouse.
    Hope some of that helps,
    Viv
