Can no longer download pdf file since last safari update

Since the last OS update (I am running Safari 6.1; OX 10.8.5) pdf files via Safari fail to open. Yet they do open in Firefox, which is 'not' my default browser. Anyone else having issues?

Try this ...
Open a Finder window then from the menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
/Library/Internet Plug-Ins
Click Go.
If you see the:  AdobePDFViewer plugin (or anything Adobe related) in the Internet Plug-Ins folder, move it to the trash.
Restart your Mac and try opening a PDF file.

    Back up all data.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste (command-V) into the text box that opens, then press return.
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
I've seen an unconfirmed report that the "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you might need to remove it as well, if applicable.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins

  • Can no longer dounload pdf file in safari or firefox. What is the problem?

I am using os 10.7.3 and a couple of weeks ago I found I can no longer download pdf files. Instead nothing happens or it try so open in a document viewer, for example: http://wi-burnettcounty.civicplus.com/DocumentView.aspx?DID=341.What do I do? • I can no longer print PDF files that were scanned with the very same MX479 on Windows XP, SP3

I can no longer print PDF files that were scanned with the very same MX479 All-in-One.
I have an (obsolete) Windows XP, SP3 computer.  Obviously, no updates from Microsoft
have occurred that might have impacted my Canon Pixma MX479.
When I attempt to send 1 or more pages from a PDF file to the printer, I don't even get the
Canon PIXMA popup that would allow me to cancel the print job.
Yet the Print Queue icon appears in the lower right corner of my monitor.
If I view the Print Queue, the print queue shows "spooling" and does nothing more.
If I attempt to CANCEL the print job in the Print Queue, it simply changes to "deleting -
    spooling".
I cannot cancel the print job that shows NOT RESPONDING via Task Manager, either.
In fact, the only way the Print Queue icon disappears is if I totally reboot my computer!
"Luckily", I can still print e-mails, Word documents, and even my downloaded PDF of my
    bank statement.
So, I was thinking that it was *only* PIXMA'S OWN SCANNED PDFS that could not be
printed ON THE SAME PIXMA 479.
However, I have since realized that I also cannot print USPS Signature Proof of Delivery
PDFs that I received from USPS via e-mail.
So why can I print *some* PDF files, but not *all* PDF files, like I previously could do?
THESE SCANS ARE OF LEGAL DOCUMENTS, SO I WILL LIKELY HAVE TO E-MAIL
THE REQUISITE, PREVIOUSLY SCANNED PDFS TO FEDEX TO PAY FOR *THEM*
    TO PRINT THEM.
NOTE: I *have* tried turning the PIXMA off, unplugging it, rebooting the computer, plugging
the PIXM in and restarting the PIXMA - still no ability to print PIXMA-scanned PDFs.
And, I find it very strange that e-mails, Word documents, and some other PDFs print with
no problem "around" "NOT RESPONDING" PIXMA print jobs.
I have owned Canon printers for years, including the MX420, and the MX340.

There may be some security issues related to the USPS PDFs.

I can't help with the scan/print problem. You seem to have done everything I would try.
I don't know if maybe using a registry cleaner would help.

  • Can no longer download PDFs, advice & suggestions requested.

I work in an office with a Mac that has OS X 10.4.11 (400 MHZ Power PC G4).  I have Acrobat Standard version 7.1.3, which is horribly outdated, but finances only allow for free upgrades.
A month or so ago I was no longer able to download PDF files, and at times my work requires me to download various government forms. I had Adobe Acrobat Standard 7.1.1 when the trouble started, but was able to download free upgrades to the present Acrobat 7.1.3.
My favorite browser is Safari 4.0.3, and when I try to download a PDF in Safari I get a nearly blank screen, but in the upper left hand corner is a small blue box with a question mark inside.
A few months ago I downloaded Firefox 3.5.3, and for a time that worked well, but now when I open Firefox and attempt to download PDF files I get a blank screen, and up in the gray bar area (where saved websites are shown) I get what appears to be the web address for the particular PDF file, but the download isn't there.
This computer also has Internet Explorer 5.2.3, and I believe higher upgrades aren't available for Macs. I started working here in 2005, and even back then Explorer didn't work well, it seemed to only half-open a website. (My terminology is bad, I don't know how to say technical things properly.) For years I've been ignoring Explorer, but just to see what would happen, today I opened Internet Explorer 5.2.3, attempted to download a PDF form, and it more or less worked. I went to the IRS website, downloaded a 1040 form, and was able to fill in the blanks. I then went to our state Revenue website, was able to download tax forms, but wasn't able to fill in the blanks. I don't like Internet Explorer, but if it was possible to get a free upgrade that would work with Macs I'd download it, just to have access to needed PDF forms.
Does anyone have any ideas what I can do to once again have the ability to download PDFs while using Safari or Firefox? I posted a question on a Safari discussion forum, but didn't get any answers. I've spend the  last couple of weeks checking out this Adobe site, found several questions about PDF downloading problems, but haven't come across an answer.
Anyone who can offer help will have my undying gratitude.

    Dear Graffiti,
I just had a chance to play around with the control>click suggestion. When I'm in Safari and get my "blue question mark in a box" I can control>click the question mark, choose "save image to the Desktop" from the drop down menu, and get the form to download. Unfortunately the fill-in form is in Preview, and not Adobe, so I can see the form and print it out, but I can't fill in the blanks.
When I did control>click on the form name at the website, instead of getting my blue question mark I got a different drop down menu. One option was "download linked file". That seemed like a possibility, so I clicked that. I got a message that went something like this "view.asp.html is an application. Are you sure you want to open an application?" (or maybe it was create an application) Anyway, I didn't want to mess around with applications for each PDF file I try to open, so I canceled that.
I tried control>click in Firefox and in Internet Explorer, and discovered that the reason why Explorer had been sort-of working before is because it had been opening the forms in Preview when I was just clicking.
So control>click gives me different options, but I'm not able to figure out how to download the PDFs into Adobe Acrobat, which is how it used to work.

  • Can no longer view pdf files in Safari

Adobe viewer installed. Was working okay. Upon first "download" of pdf file, had pop-up window to locate Adobe Reader application. Then pdf files were opened in Safari with Adobe Reader controls across the top of the Safari window.
For no apparent reason, can no longer view pdf in Safari. The URL for the pdf file appears in the Safari URL, but the Safari window is blank. No pop-up window to locate Adobe Reader application during first "download" of pdf file. Safari Help --> Installed Plug-ins shows Adobe Reader for pdf. Can download pdf file by highlighting URL and then pressing Option-Return.
Only change the previous day was update of Mac software which included a security upgrade and other software upgrades.

  • Can no longer print PDF files on C310.

    Morning,
have a HP C310.  Used to work fine...  Frustratingly it no longer prints PDF files.
I've uninstalled everything and reinstalled it.
    Updated drivers.
Tried the print as an image.
    Prints other documents fine.
When I try and print a PDF file it seems like the printer is just ignoring the request.
Any further suggests before I through it out the window and buy a printer that works.....
    Thanks in advance,
    Daren

Hmm...  OK, I happen to have the same printer (on wireless LAN) and OS and it prints fine for me....
Are you printing from File, Print or from the printer icon?  I recall that Adobe applications may have their own version of what the default printer is.  If using the printer icon try instead with File, Print and make sure the c310 is selected as the printer.  Also check the Advanced settings in the print menu.  In my case all the boxes are unchecked (except the grayed-out selection for downloading Asian fonts in the postscript box).
One other thing to check would be to open the print spooler and then print a PDF and make sure that a print job does show up and then disappear from the spooler.

  • I can't open a pdf file since updating to firefox 4.0. I have foxit reader installed and it worked before. Adobe is not compatible with Firefox. What do I need to do. I need to file my income tax online and can't because of this issue

Just can't open any pdf files. Having no luck trying to fix myself.

For Firefox users, there might be a built in pdf viewer, or a preferred viewer that handles pdf files.
I am not having any trouble logging in, so lets try this:
    * Remove any cookies from the cache: [[Delete cookies to remove the information websites have stored on your computer]]
*[[Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings]] if there is stored user data that is removed in this process: [[Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles]]

  • My Mac Desktop 10.6.8 can no longer open PDF files. Can someone give me some ideas to try?

I am having problems with my Preview app.  I can't open any PDF files in Safari or Firefox.

Adobe Reader works well with Snow Leopard. What doesn't is its crappy internet plug-in. Quit all browsers, open /Lbrary/Internet Plug-ins, and remove these two:
    AdobePDFViewer.plugin
    AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin
Relaunch your browsers and that should do the trick. For better viewing of PDFs in a browser, something I'm loath to do, install the Schubert plugin.

  • I can no longer download Apps from App store nor update the existing ones

    iMac 21" Intel
    year 2013
    OSX10.10.1
I can no longer download Apps from App Store.
I would select the app, press the icon to download the App (Ottieni in my language, Italian), download would not start and an alarm saying "Download failed, try from the Purchased page to retry" would pop-up, see screenshot below.
I would visit the page "Purchased" (second icon from right) and try from there by pressing the icon Install on the right hand side but the same pop-up icon would appear and a message by the icon Install saying "An error occurred" would appear.
The same problem occurr when I try to update Keynote, Imovie or any other App I have downloaded.
I do not know whether this is related to this issue but some time ago I installed Avast.
I could not install other apps such as uTorrent (not downloaded through App Store) until I removed Avast.
    I am utterly disappointed.
    Can anyone help, please?
    Thanks.
    Carlo

Yes, Avast could very well be the issue. Bad software, use the developer's instructions to uninstall and don't install again. Your Mac has no real need for most 3rd party anti-viral software and those so-called tune-up apps mess up more than they are worth. A pristine OS X system is all that you need, it takes care of itself.
