Can no longer import video (2nd post)

Hi, I use iTunes a lot so I very much hope someone can help me quick!!
My set up is a 2 drive (SSD/HD) iMac from last year so in theory I guess I am using an iTunes library on an external drive depite that fact that 2nd drive is in the iMac.
I have added video using Handbrake and EyeTV without issue 1000's of times but (possibly) since the lastest upgrade to iTunes I can't do it anymore.
The iTunes info window says it's copying the video into the iTunes library when I drag a (minty freshly encoded) .m4v file into the iTunes window and the progress bar fills fine. The file is never added to the iTunes source list however. In the Finder I can navigate to added files and they are in the right place, both TV show and Movies added with to the correct folders whatever, they are invisible in the iTunes TV/Movies source lists.
I was wondering about this http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1451 to 're-create your iTunes library and playlists'. I have 500 movies, 1000 TV shows and 12000 music files in my library so I don't want to go messing if this is a bug and not an issue with my library.
Many thanks to anyone who replies.
Cheers, Simon

Hold down the option key while starting iTunes and create a brand new test library. Try adding one of your files to it. Does it add?  If not then there's probably something about it iTunes doesn't like.  If it does add then there may be something about iTunes itself that isn't adding media correctly.  I see issues along those lines posted several times a day here.  No real solution other than rebuilding your library or trying things such as seeing if it is in the Recently Added playlist even if it isn't showing in the main library window.  If it is in RA then try editing a tag and see if it appears in the main library.
Bear in mind that playing video is iTunes was developed alongside Apple selling video.  It would not surprise me if Apple has certain priorities and certain non-priorities (such as supporting FLAC in iTunes) and you can decide where ensuring all video formats play nicely in iTunes falls.

  • IMovie can no longer import video from camcorder.

I have been using iMovie '09 with a Sony DCR-SR85 camcorder for over a year with no problems. Suddenly, I cannot import from the camera anymore. With the camera connected and the disk image mounted, I run iMovie and click on the camera import button. It sees my camcorder (it says, "Sony DCR-SR85), then it spins its wheels and status bars for several minutes before it stops detecting the camera. Then, clicking the camera import gives me only the built-in iSight, with no option for the connected camera.
I have searched for other threads on this issue, but have only found solutions that don't seem to apply to me. In one instance, there was an elaborate procedure for rebuilding an AVCHD file structure. This camera records in MPEG-2, not AVCHD. The other solution was that iMovie cannot import SD videos in the same batch as HD videos. Since this camera has no HD capabilities, this does not apply, either.
Can anyone offer some suggestions? There are nearly 800 clips on this camcorder, the newest of which I need to import into iMovie so I can work on them. If there is some sort of corruption on the camcorder, is there an easy way to find it? If I need to reformat the camcorder hard drive, is there a way to import all the MPEG files on the camera's hard drive into iMovie? I tried dragging them from the camera's directory into iMovie, but that didn't work.

If 2 computers do not detect the camera then the issue is not the computer / iMovie.
    Potential issues:
1.) The mode the camera is in. Make sure it is configured for PC Connect or Mass Storage mode. Check your manual to determine what the required mode is for your camera.
2.) The cable you are using between camera and computer is bad.
3.) Physical failure in the camera itself.
Try plugging the camera directly into the computer using USB (no hubs) while running on AC power and cycle through the various connection modes. See if the camera mounts on the desktop (as I assume it does normally).
If it fails to mount on either computer I would call Sony so they can verify the camera is in fact functional and even ask them what mode you need to be in for the computer to recognize it.

  • I can no longer import videos from my canon vixia HFS100 into imovie 09

I have had my canon HFS100 for about 6 months. It is listed in the camcorders supported by imovie 09. It worked great but after the last imovie update the camcorder is no longer recognized by imovie. APPLE please fix this bug now!!!! It worked before the update now it doesn't ***. APPLE support please respond to my post with a status on what to do. I see many post about this similar problem.

I strongly believe your AVCHD file structure is corrupt. Or at least no longer compatible with iMovies understanding of how the structure should be. The camera will continue to work, but iMovie will no longer recognise it. I dont think this is a bug in imovie, iMovie is just not user-friendly in this respect, as it does not to tell the user about the problem.

After salvaging your footage, you should re-format your memory card to make iMovie accept it again.

  • Can No longer import video on new intel Mac Pro Tower

Help...I am a teacher and my students cannot use our brand new computers to import footage. No problems with old G5. FOr some reason i-movie will not recognize a camera is attached on the new mac pro's
Is there something I am doing wrong. The camera is a cannon GL2 we have been using for years. Tried multiple cables and machines. all have the same issue.

Make sure all of your applications are updated by using the Apple Software updates.
Then, try deleting the imovie preference file. Close Imovie. Then locate a file named com.apple.imovie.plist and get rid of it. Then empty the trash.
Most importantly, after the updates and the deleting, run a permissions repair with disk utility and restart. That may do it. The files you need to delete are found in:
    /Users/YourName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.imovie.plist

  • Can no longer import Videos in 7.7.1

I just ran into this, this morning. I tried to convert a video with Isquint, and it did nothing. Then I tried to manually add video, and again nothing. I tried deleting a video that I had in my Itunes and re-add it, again NADA!!!
I have also tried this on a PC, does anyone have a solution for this???
    Thanks in advance.

AAfter discussing with Apple support i detached my shared photo libraries. Closed all apps , shut off iPhone than restarted and reattached my shared sites. Still couldn't stream my shared videos. I shut down my cellular to make sure  I was connected through WiFI. I tried streaming videos from my shared albums in iClud and it worked. Could be coincidence. But hey, if you do a rain dance and it rains than give it a try!

  • Final Cut 5.1.1 / Snow Leopard / Can no longer import P2 video

Since upgrading to Snow Leopard, I can no longer import P2 footage. I get the stop sign and error: no data.
In the import window I can play the clip and everything is fine, but when I add to the clip to the import queue it just times out.
Any thoughts? Is it somehow related to Quicktime being updated by Snow Leopard?
    thanks

Are we a tad snippy? But you are right, the do already have the footage offloaded.
Might be that FCP 5.1.4 is not fully supported under Snow Leopard? There might be OS components that stop the import process. Apple doesn't test all their old software with the new OS, only the current versions. So there might be some basic incompatibility with FCP 5.1.4 and Snow Leopard.
BUT...I'll post my stock answer for this issue...Although most of the things to try are features of FCP 6...
#36 - One or More P2 files failed to import.
Shane's Stock Answer #36 - "One or more clips failed to import..."
Very often in the field with this camera the camera operator will delete clips from the P2 card that they just don't like. That is the beauty of this camera. But, the still for that video file (located in the CLIP folder in the CONTENTS folder)...the still that you see when you are in the P2 Import window...is not deleted. So you will see the image, and the name, but the video file would have been deleted.
What you can do it compare the file names in the VIDEO folder and CLIP folder and see if anything is missing. If something is, then you know what the problem is. You can then just import the rest a few at time, skipping that one.
ALSO...in the P2 Import window...in the P2 Browser, there is a little sprocket drop down menu. Click on that and choose PREFERENCES. Uncheck REMOVE PULLDOWN and then try importing again.
ALSO...make sure your file names aren't too long. Try shortening them and see if that works.
ALSO make sure that the folders that contain the CONTENTS folder doesn't have any odd characters like /!@#$%^&*()?.
    There...continuing to be non-helpful.

  • Just upgraded to Lion and can no longer import any .mov files ("file not supported") to 3.1.3.  Also can no longer view any .mov or .mp4 files already in library.

Have been using Aperture 3.1.3 with no problems.  Importing from a Nikon D80 (RAW & JPEG), Casio (.MOV) and Flip (.mp4).  Could import and view all videos without issue prior to Lion upgrade.  After Lion installation, can no longer import .mov files (get "file not supported" error) or even view any .mov or .mp4 files currently in library (even though thumbnail is present).  Can watch the .mov files directly on my camera using Quicktime in Finder but can't even drag & drop that file into Aperture.  Anybody else having similar problems?

Still no resolution and Geniuses at store could not assist.  Unfortunately, it looks like not all the applications were ready to support the Lion operating system.  We could not import any .mov files, could no longer view any .mov files already in my Aperture library and could not email any .mov files.  Totally frustrated.  Use Aperture almost daily and can't lose the video functionality.  Was also running dog-slow.  Constantly looking at the spinning wheel.  Geniuses suggested that I wipe out hard drive and reinstall Snow Leopard.  Had full backup on external drive with Time Machine.
Not an easy process though...had to reinstall several times (at 5 hours each time) because I continued to have issues.  Finally figured out that I needed to delete every backup file from Time Machine on external drive from the date I installed Lion because some of the hidden files were still migrating back to Snow Leopard.
    I had to:
    1. Delete all time machine backup files from date/time of Lion installation forward
    2. Do "clean" installation of Snow Leopard (wiped hard drive using disk utility and booted with Snow Leopard disc)
    3. Chose option to reinstall from backup off Time Machine which eventually got me back to Snow Leopard desktop
    4. Deleted Aperture program and reinstalled (I had to install Aperture 2 and then install Aperture 3 upgrade.
    5. Reinstalled iLife apps
    5. Applied all Apple updates available (again this took a few hours because there were several updates from Snow Leopard's original release plus Aperture 3 and other application updates)
Still doing some tweaking on some of my other apps but got everything back to where I originally was.  Now plan to wait on a few version updates from Lion before reinstalling.
I am one of Apple's biggest fans, but was very disappointed in the fact that I lost functionality in one of their own pieces of software (which I use the most!)  by installing Lion.

  • HT1473 Why after updating my itune i can no longer import LP's from my ion Turntable can sombody help please

Why after updating itune i can no longer import vinyl to the itunes

Ah yes school boy error there out of frustration and discontent..
My issue is with music/apps/films etc not downloading from iTunes / App Store.
They initially fail and message is displayed stating unable to download / purchase at this time, yet if I retry it says I've already purchased (?) or alternatively I go to the purchased section and there they are waiting with the cloud symbol..
However some items get frozen in the download window and cannot be retried or deleted. Message appears stating to tap to retry, but even if you stole every bath and sink in the uk you'd still not have enough taps.
I post here as the iTunes guys are useless in there 'help' and have only advised posting here or phoning apple, at my expense, to explain a problem that could be rectified by forwarding my original email to a techie. However the tech team apparently don't have an email address as they're from ye olde Middle Ages..!
    Anyways I digress.
So I tried sync to pc, but instead of showing the file as ready to listen/use/view, the iCloud symbol shows and I'm back to square one as the item is unable to download..
At frustration station waiting for a train from pain...
All my software is up to date, and had all worked fine prior to the last big iOS update that resulted in all the changes in display and dismay.

  • I can no longer import raw files from my Panasonic Lumix LX5 into Aperture 3.3.2 - raw files from my other Canon cameras are fine. Am still running Lion - NOT Mountain Lion. Tried all available software updates - no joy. Any ideas please?

I can no longer import raw files from my Panasonic Lumix LX5 into Aperture 3.3.2 - raw files from my other Canon cameras are fine. Am still running Lion (10.7.4) - NOT Mountain Lion. Tried all available software updates - all up to date apparently but still no joy. OS X Lion shows the LX5 as a supported file format. I dont want to have to upgrade to Mountain Lion just to see if this solves the problem. Any ideas please.

Since when did this happen? Directly after you upgraded to Aperture 3.3.2?
If it happened directly after the upgrade the problem may be, that the raw support for your camera got lost. For some posters it helped to register the raw support again, see this post by Alan Roseman:
Aperture 3 preview of raw file greenish
If this does not help, you may need to reinstall Lion to bring back the raw support.
But if the problem occured independent of a new installation, ypu may have a problem with your camera or the card you are using. Have you tried to use a different card or to reformat the card in the camera?

  • After uprading to iOS 5.1 I can no longer play videos in my camera roll. I just get the following error "The  requested URL was not found on this server"

After uprading to iOS 5.1 I can no longer play videos in my camera roll. I just get the following error "The  requested URL was not found on this server".
    Anyone have any ideas?

You have two choices to try & fix this: 1. Backup your phone, then restore as a new device, then restore from the backup you first created, or 2. Follow the advise from this poster:
I had the same problem with the black blocks after upgrading to iOS4 on my iPhone. The reason for the black blocks is that the thumbnail images for those particular images have not been created when the Photo Library has been updated to iOS4. I followed the advice on a couple of blogs and fixed the problem.
    1. I downloaded iPhone Explorer free software (http://www.macroplant.com/iphoneexplorer/) so I could view the photo data folders on my phone. I could see that the thumbnail images were missing.
    2. I followed a slight variation on the instructions on this blog. (http://blog.mbentley.net/2010/06/iphone-ios-4-upgrade-restore-lost-pictures-in-c amera-roll/)
    3. First I copied the Photo Data folder by dragging it from the iPhone Explorer window to my Mac desktop.
    4. Through iPhone Explorer I deleted the info.plist file in the Media/PhotoData/MISC folder.
    5. I also deleted the Photos.sqlite and PhotosAux.sqlite files in Media/PhotoData.
    6. I then rebooted the phone and launched the Photo Library.
    7. The Library rebuilt it's self again and recreated the thumbnails.
    8. The problem was fixed!!! Thank you M Bentley!
I hope this helps - this has been bugging me for 2 weeks.

  • I have premier elements 9. I can no longer create videos. Is it because of upgrade? Please tell me what to do. TY

When I open elements 9- to create a new video- it is now just a blank, black/gray screen. I can no longer create videos. I can't upload from computer, etc. Is this from the new download of Rebel?
Please tell me what to do, where to go. I realize this is an old version- but I liked it and it was easy to use....Am I required to purchase another version now?

    smokeymountainwedding
You need to explain your situation further so we are clear on how to answer your question.
    1. What computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 9 running on? Have you been and are you now running the program
as the 9.0.1 Update? When you the last time that you used this program successfully for one of your video productions?
    2. Are you trying to import video from the Canon EOS Rebel t3i or another model into Premiere Elements 9 workspace?
From what I have read, the camera records with a MPEG4 video compression and has a .mov file extension. Is that true? What camera setting are you using 1920 x 1080, 1280 x 720, or other? And, what does it say for frames per second?
So, do you have the latest version of QuickTime installed on your computer with Premiere Elements 9.
Bottom line: are you using the same computer, same Premiere Elements 9, same Canon footage, that worked before and now it is not working?
And, please clarify...important....do you meet this problem even before you try to import your Canon video into a project?
When you open the program from its desktop icon, are you left facing a gray window with menu names across the top that will not open?
Lots of questions, lots of answers needed.
Your details will help us to help you.
    Thank you.

  • How can I avoid importing video into Lightroom CC?

    Hi all,
I am using Lightroom CC on my iMac to catalogue my photos, a task I really find Lightroom perfect for.
However, I am also using my DSLR for shooting video´s, which I edit with Final Cut Pro. Lightroom is _not_ a part of the video import/editing workflow, so I really do not want to have Lightroom import all videos in addition to all my photos.
    My question is:
How can I set up Lightroom so that it no longer import videos?
My current workflow is tedious, and really not one I like: I import everything into Lightroom, and then manually delete all the video´s.
    Your help is kindly appreciated!
    K

Lr isn't particularly good at separating out individual files types within the import window. However, some of the third party plugins usually provide the sort of filtering you require. Unfortunately, I can't recall exactly which ones do, but you could try this one from Rob Cole as a starter http://www.robcole.com/Rob/ProductsAndServices/ImporterLrPlugin/ or http://www.robcole.com/Rob/ProductsAndServices/OttomanicImporterLrPlugin/

    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

  • HT2506 After updating my system to Mountain Lion 10.8.2 I can no longer view videos on Facebook or other sites. The only one I can view videos on is youtube. I have downloaded Adobe Flash player and still no luck. I cannot even open Preview on my computer

Merely clicking the Preview icon in the Dock doesn't cause it to open anything, unless you had one or more windows open the last time it quit.
If you're sure you've installed the latest version of Flash, take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. After each step, relaunch Safari and test.
    1. If you're getting a "blocked plug-in" error, triple-click the line below to select it:
/Library/Internet Plug-Ins Right-click or control-click the highlighted text and select
    Services ▹ Open
from the contextual menu. A folder should open. If there is more than one item in the folder with the words "Flash Player" (not "flashplayer") in the name, open the respective Info windows, check the version numbers, and delete all except the latest. You may be prompted for your login password. If you get the same error after doing that, re-download and reinstall Flash. Download it from this page:
Adobe - Install Adobe Flash Player
Never download a Flash update from anywhere else.
    2. If you get a "missing plug-in" error, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
from the Safari menu bar and check the box marked Enable plug-ins.
    3. Select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
from the Safari menu bar. If any extensions are installed, disable them.
    4. In the Safari preference window, select
Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
    Close the window. Then select
     ▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced
and click Delete All. Close the preference pane.
