  • Manually Manage Music option is GONE...when I plug in my IPHONE (which is already synced to this computer) I can no longer manually manage songs. I have already opted to do this but all my songs are grey and it won't allow me to manage ANY songs?

I cannot delete or add any songs to my Iphone (or my son's ipod) for some reason..all the songs are grey and cannot be manually managed. Any feedback is appreciated.

You will need to restore your phone as a new one using the itunes on your computer.  This WILL erase everything on the phone but it will let you change the name of the phone and then you can add content to it.

  • Can no longer manually manage playlist/music/videos on 30 GB iPod classic

I tried to manually remove content off of my iPod and the option seems to have disappeared. I tried on both my MacBook Pro and my PC...I used to be able to add and remove items manually. Have recent software updates taken this option away? How can I resolve this issue?

If you make the iTunes sidebar visible, the latest iTunes (mostly) works like it did before in previous versions.
To show the sidebar, from the iTunes menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.
FYI - The Music "tab" (from the row of buttons that starts with Summary) is the same as it was before.  The only difference is that the old tab now looks like a button.  In the sidebar, clicking Music indented under the iPod shows you its list of songs, and that's also the same as before.
In the latest iTunes, when the sidebar is hidden, it works differently.  Then, to see the iPod's lists of songs, select the iPod in iTunes, so that you see the row of buttons that starts with Summary.  The last button (to the far right) is On This iPod.  Click that button to see the list of songs on the iPod.

  • Hi,we have had to reset our pc to its factory settings and i can no longer sync my ipod when i purchase a song.

    Hi,
we have had to reset our pc to its factory setting and i can no longer sync my ipod when i buy a song? can anyone help? cheers.

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately this has not worked. I didn't have quicktime to begin with so I don't know if that makes a difference? After following the instructions, I get the "registry keys missing" problem appear again (which I've subsequently fixed again) and then when I connected the ipod I got the following message - 'Device driver software was not successfully installed'.
I've tried windows update but this doesn't do anything as '...the service is not running'.
    Any suggestions?

  • How do you manage Playlists on a manually managed iPod Classic?

I'm going to get an iPod Classic since I have a huge music collection.
Most of this music is not in iTunes, and won't fit on my computer.
I have read that I can set iTunes to "Manually manage music and videos" for the device.
Then I can simply drag and drop music onto the iPod from the Finder (e.g. from an external drive).
But I also want Playlists on the iPod.
(Not the songs in iTunes on some playlist -- just the listing of some songs.)
Can I compose playlists (that reference the MP3 files I am downloading) in some fashion,
and then drag them over to the iPod, and have it recognize them as playlists for the music
files that I have dragged onto the iPod?
I am imagining this would involve creating/editing some XML files with some magic names
or extensions and dropping them onto the iPod.  (Or, when I do this "Manually manage..."
thing and go into the device via Finder, will I see a folder there named "Playlists" or something?)
    Something like that?
How do you manage Playlists on a manually managed iPod Classic?
(I'm on Mavericks on the computer, of course.
I could boot Windows or Linux if needed.)

I have just found out how to do this:
    Connect your iPod:
Under DEVICES you will see an arrow (on the left hand side, next to your IPod. If you are unable to display your songs the arrow will be pointing to the right. By clicking on this arrow it will point down, all of your songs will appear. Under Preferences uncheck Auto Sync then you can manually add / delete.

  • Trouble Manually Managing iPod

After upgrade to Leopard from Tiger, trying to manually manage iPod 30GB. I have tried either "sync only checked songs" "Manually manage" or both, but unchecked items remain on iPod. Also, I am trying to sync my wife's 1GB Shuffle either in her account with Shared music or in my account with a separate library. Songs I put in my Drop Box do not appear in iTunes under her account or in her Drop Box. When I use my account but a new library, I add music to her Library from mine, but songs will only go to Shuffle when I check Autofill.
    I am open to suggestions.
    Thanks!

After searching through more help files, I tried a few more things; 30GB: checked Sync only checked songs & Manually Manage. Shuffle: Manually Manage was not a choice, but the help file instructed me to drag the songs we wanted from the library to the Shuffle.
I hope I can recreate what I did, because these steps seemed to work.

  • Manually Managed Ipod - Syncing Play Count with Itunes Library

I've had a 80gb 5th Generation Classic for 7 years or so, ive always manually managed it. Now that i've bought an iphone 5 with enough storage for my itunes library i want to transfer my music onto my new phone, so i don't need to carry round an ipod and iphone!
However my play counts in my library are all very low as i don't play music on my laptop too often.
Is there a way to get the play counts off my manually managed ipod on to my laptop to put on my phone? I would really like to continue my play counts from my ipod to my iphone.
    Much appreciated.

Hey, apologies for not getting back sooner, ive been working away.
I've just tried the script out and i appear to be having some issues.
When i script more than a handful of songs (15+ ish), i get the following error:
    Line: 136
    Char: 53
Error: The track is not modifiable
    Code: A0040203
    Source (null)
and consequently none of the stats are transferred over.
If i script in small batches i seem to be able to script and also focus in on the song that appears to be causing the issue, and the error pops up again when i only script the suspect song. However the stats also get scrpted over from the song. I then pick the next 10 songs or so and script and carry on. With over 7500 songs this is a long long exercise.
Do you know any reason for the above error, and is there anything to solve it?
I must point out im scripting from my iphone 5. My ipod was left at work so ill try that tomorrow night. The itunes version im using is the latest build, 11.0.0.163
    Cheers.

  • I can no longer drag and drop songs.

I can no longer drag and drop songs into playlists that are resident in iTunes nor can I drag songs directly on to my iPods
(Nano and Shuffle).  I have re-installed the most recent version of iTunes and it did not help.
    Thanks

  • So I have a gen2 8gig iPod touch and just the other day updated to 4.3 and now my pod wont show up in iTunes. Is it not compatible? Does this mean I can no longer sync my iPod??

I can no longer sync my iPod as it does not show up in my iTunes anymore, is this because I upgraded my Itunes??

You should still be able to sync you iPod.  Your iPod just can be updated past iOS 4.2.1.
Assuming you have a PC, start her to get your computer to see the iPod.

  • I can no longer manually select podcast episodes to download. It automatically downloads the most recent. I have been downloading a few episodes at a time due to the limited memory of my Shuffle. Is there a work-around?

Similar problem here. My Ical refuses to edit or delete events. Viewing is possible, though sometimes the whole screen turns grey. Adding new events from mail is still possible. The task-pane completely disappeared. My local apple technic-centre messed about with disk utility for a bit and than told me to reinstall leopard. I could of course do that, but it seems to me that reinstalling Leopard just to fix iCal events is a bit invasive.
I tried also tried removing everything, installing a new copy of iCal from the leopard-cd, software updates, all to no avail.
At the moment I'm open to all suggestions that do not include a complete leopard reinstall.

  • Deleting playlists from a manually managed ipod

To save diskspace on my pc I manually manage my ipod so I can save the music on it and delete it from my pc and add new songs as I go along.
Was this a bad idea? I thought I would be able to upload music from my ipod to my pc at a later date, is that possible?
Also I would like to delete certain playlists from my nano but I guess because I am manually updating my ipod they do not show up in iTunes. Is there any way to clear up certain playlists on my Nano?
If I have songs on my Ipod that aren't on my pc, will automatically updating erase songs on my Nano?
    Thanx
Ipod Nano 5th Gen   Windows XP

    Was this a bad idea?
Not necessarily. As long as you understand that if your iPod crashes, you will no longer have the music and you will have to repurchase it and/or reload from the original CDs.
To delete song or playlists from the iPod, connect the iPod to the computer.
In the Source frame in iTunes, click the triangle next to the iPod name.
The playlists will on the iPod will be displayed.
Select on eto delete and press Delete.
If you delete a playlist or a song from a playlist on the iPod, it does not delete the song. You still have to click on th eiPod name and delete the songs.
If I have songs on my Ipod that aren't on my pc, will automatically updating erase songs on my Nano?
    Yes.
Syncing the iPod is one way. iTunes to iPod. iTunes will update the iPod to match iTunes.

  • Duplicates and Manually Manage iPod content

Sometimes iTunes really ****** me off in some of the poor design choices that apple code designers have made. Case in point is the lack of Show Duplicates functionality on an iPod. Why is this function disabled???
Here is my problem - maybe someone has a suggestion that will make this omission less aggravating.
My music library is bigger than my iPod. Therefore, I have to manually manage the content on my iPod. I would LIKE to synchronize some of the playlists between my music library and iPod, but I CAN'T DO THAT because iTunes will delete everything off the iPod that is NOT in a playlist (another poor design decision!) - and I want to keep other things on my iPod that are not in my playlist.
So: in order to refresh and update playlist as they change, I tried copying the contents of a playlist in my music library into the playlist on my iPod. THIS, however, produces duplicates of each song in the playlist that are already on the iPod (another poor design decision!!!!)
Which of course brings me back to wanting the SHOW DUPLICATES function on the iPod.
Why were these poor decisions made and why is what I'm trying do so difficult?!?!?

    Okay.
Is the software on your computer up to date?

If so, and the manual update still won't stick, then you may need to restore your iPod...

  • CAN NO LONGER USE MY IPOD THANKS TO APPLES ISO5 UPDATE, THIS IS UNFAIR

After having a problem with my ipod syncing with itunes and wiping all my data (great Tech by the way). Restoring my ipod solved that problem but now my apps no longer function. with an attempt to reinstall the applications to my device, I was quickly notified that my ipod requires ISO5 update (fair enough). click to update(oh ISO 4.2.1 no update required) So not only is this device useless at syncing with its own program but now i cannot even use it!? This is unfair! devices should not be obsolete!! its a touch for christsake. A really big kick in the face from Good old apple, forcing users like myself to then have to go out and spend more money on useless apple products which will be useless in a couple of years! I SAY NO! i bought this ipod with the intent to use it to its full capacity but no longer can, i want my money back so i can put it in SAMSUNGS POCKET where they wont screw me!

I suspect you have a 2G iPod. Those can only go to iOS 4.2.1.
    Identifying iPod models
    iPod touch (3rd generation)
iPod touch (3rd generation) features a 3.5-inch (diagonal) widescreen multi-touch display and 32 GB or 64 GB flash drive. You can browse the web with Safari and watch YouTube videos with Wi-Fi. You can also search, preview, and buy songs from the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store on iPod touch.
The iPod touch (3rd generation) can be distinguished from iPod touch (2nd generation) by looking at the back of the device. In the text below the engraving, look for the model number. iPod touch (2nd generation) is model A1288, and iPod touch (3rd generation) is model A1318.
Many developers when they updated their apps to support iOS 5 and 6 dropped compatibility for iOS 4.2.1 and earlier.
Your only way is if you have the version that was compatible on your computer such as in the recycle bin/trash or in a computer file backup. In that case delete the current version that is in your iTunes App library and replace it with the older version. Then sync.

  • Cannot find setting to 'manually manage' ipod

I would like to connect my shuffle to a second computer, also running iTunes. I rang Apple Customer Support who advised I needed to plug in iPod on main pc and tick the 'Manually Manage Music' box on the Summary Page of Preferences and everything would work ok. The box is not there! Enable Disk Use is along with Open iTunes when this ipod is connected. I do not need to sync the iPod with the second computer. Thanks.

The iPod shuffle doesn't have that capability; it can only contain content from a single iTunes library at a time.
