Can no longer name files when i save them

When i hit Save As there used to be a bar where you could name your file. No there is no longer that option so i just names my word document whatever the first few words are. On top of that, there used to be a drop-down menu where you could choose
different locations to save, and now... nothing. Help me how this is very annoying!
I'l also add in that i didn't change any options prior to this issue, although i had installed a windows update, which i hadn't done in months.
As i went to attach this picture I hit open to find my screenshot and the same thing, no dropdown menu. So it only shows this one random folder and there's no way use the explorer.
Then this site wouldn't allow me to include an image....... totally buying a mac next time.
But in the meantime, any help?

We wonder if there is any luck your issue has been resolved, if you've found solution by yourself. We would appreciate it if you could share with us and we will mark it as answer.
I am supposing you have this issue when you try to save files every time not just in office. Since It is possibly that this issue caused by certain software installation, as arnavsharma mentioned that please check your issue under safe mode.
If this issue persists, try creating a new user account and check if the issue persists there.
If it works in a new user account then you need to fix the corrupt user profile. You may visit this link for the steps:

If this issue happened recently, please check any action you took or restore your system to earlier point.

Something is wrong with some of my PSD files when I save them?

I am working with Photoshop Cs5 extended, and I have had it for about a year, I work in Windows 7. I was working on a comic when my scanner broke so I took pieces of the skecthes I drew instead to paint them in photoshop with my cannon powershot camera. I open the documents and they saved fine, then when I open the last 2 images from my camera in photoshop and saved them as a PSD file and they appeared as white sheets in my folder, and when I right clicked to open them this menu came up and asked me where I wanted to open it, I clicked photoshop and got a message in Photoshop saying " cannot open because document is not compatiable" or something like that. So I tried saving a random document and it saved as a normal PSD file.
I am just wondering can anyone help explain what is going on? is it Photoshop, are the files corrupted? and will Photoshop continue to do this with every file I save?
I also backed up my existing files with dropbox.

Is this the thumbnail or the image? If viewing in Bridge and the icon is white it probably means you have named it incorrectly. Anything you put after a dot is considered an extenstion. So if you have ssss.drawing.psd it will look for the extension drawing.

If you have Windows 7 64-bit, I don't think Outlook 2010 is supported in 64-bit mode.

We have one user whose Pages files nobody else can open, edit or copy when he saves them to our server. Somehow the files are not inheriting the correct permissions.

I got the same issue but with some new insight.
I got a MacPro with 10.5.8 server on it to serve 8 users on 10.5 and 10.6. The root sharepoint is nest within a folder on a separated volume from the OS. I made a pretty simple permissions structure at first, all users is member of a group, and I giving full access to that group thru ACL and set the heritance to everything.
When I copie a new file on the server from the finder, everything is OK. But when I created a new documents on the server by saving it from a another software (Like pages or Textedit). The new file doesnt inherite the ACL and everybody else beside the users who created that new files is read only.
According to my tests, the ACL appear to be propagate on new file only from finder manipulation.

The conventional ways of doing this, such as using turning off the SMS preview under the "passcode lock", well that option no longer exists, or if it does, I'm somehow missing it.
When I go to the "messages" setting under settings on my phone, I still don't see an option of turning it off.
If I can just get the name of the person sending the message, as I had it before, I'd be happy.

Thanks for this - not an immediate solution I fear but will keep unplugging stuff and restarting stuff.
To try and be clearer about the problem - I have in the last managed to send attachments successfully. Now I can send and receive plain email messages but get the error message when I try to attach an existing file to an email - not just a particular file but it would appear all files are being treated in the same way.
An experiment to send a mail to which an attachment has failed to upload got the following message alongside the SEND button
Files with errors will be removed from the email and not sent.
- but the mail alone was sent and received successfully. Thanks for any pointers you can give me.

That is definitely odd, grantcool. Let's help restore this important data transfer feature. To confirm, when you connect the USB cable to your phone and computer > Pull down the Notification Bar > Select USB Connected > Can you choose Media Sync (MTP) ?

10.6.6 - upgraded and now can no longer see files on the desktop

I upgraded to 10.6.6 and now I can no longer "see" any of my files that are located on the desktop. However, I can see the files in Finder. Anyone else experience this?

Is it true on Mavericks the Calendar can no longer be synced when connecting directly?

Recently I noticed that since upgrading to Mavericks, my iPhone Calendar is no longer synced with my Computers Calendar. I found some hint on the support site that this is a "feature"? Is this true that the iPhone Calendar can no longer be synced when the iPhone is connected with my computer directly via USB or via WiFi?

I don't think the article states that as you describe it here. I think instead the article says that iTunes is no longer the sync agent for your calendar. iCloud is one of the possible alternate methods (and happens to be the one I use). But there are very likely other ways to perform the sync, such as Outlook, Google, etc. It all depends on the specific calendar account you use.

You were probably using the Release Candidate version of camera raw 8.7, which one gets from Adobe Labs.

Using PSE 10 on Windows. Can no longer open files in PSE 10?

Have used PSE 10 successfully for quite awhile. Can no longer open files in this program. Choose, "open file" in PSE 10 and nothing happens.

Thanks this was useful. I have been ripping my audiobooks and I was finding that they would get uploaded to iCloud in the process, which in itself was fine, but then iTunes would not let me change the media type to Audiobook, which is annoying as it effects how iTunes treats the media. Like showing you the skip back 10 seconds button.
The general outline here helped me work around the issue and change the media type before the media was re-uploaded to iCloud.

I have a similar issue.
After updating Pages to 5.2, all Word export documents are 10 times the size they'd normally be.
A normal exported .DOC file that would have been under 200K, is now 1.7MB once exported. !!! ???
This is a major issue with Pages.
