Can no longer open cp file
I worked on a CP for hours today. Later, when I tried to
reopen the file I had saved and closed, it would not open. It
appears as though it is going to open but just stays on the main
screen. I even tried to import the file into a blank captivate. I
can see all my slides when I select to import but upon clicking OK,
none of them import. Please assist.
Thanks.
I have experienced similar things to this. How many slides
does your project have? I've noticed that as I approach 100 slides
with audio attached, Captivate throws in the towel and desideds it
doesn't want to open my file. As ridiculous as it may seem, I have
just double clicked on the file I wanted to open and then I left
the computer for 30 minutes. It gave me the hour glass and told me
it was "Not Responding" but sure enough it randomly opens up
everytime after 30 minutes or so. Not sure this advice helps. Good
luck.

To configure the browser to use Acrobat or Adobe Reader to open PDF files:
1. Quit Internet Explorer(any other browser)
2. Start Acrobat or Adobe Reader.
3. Choose Edit > Preferences.
4. Select Internet in the list on the left.
5. Deselect(Uncheck) Display PDF in Browser, and click OK.

Triple-click the line of text below to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
/Library/Internet Plug-ins
In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste (command-V) into the text box that opens, then press return.
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
I've seen an unconfirmed report that the "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you might need to remove it as well, if applicable.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again. -
Because I can no longer open Adobe files, and have tried all obvious solutions, I've been told to defrag the Intel portion of my MacBook Pro. How do I do this?

Not understood, Intel make the processor that runs your Mac, there is no other 'side' to your Mac.

I can no longer open pdf files
I use Microsoft Home edition XP software on a Dell Dimension 4600. I have several email addresses, each with it's separate Outlook account. The email address that I get most pdf's on will no longer open these files although the others will. Does anybody know why and how to fix this?
What happens when you try?
It could be that the email provider has changed something in the way they encode attached files.

I Fireworks 8, I was able to save a web page as a complete
document to the local drive and then open it with Fireworks to work
with it. With CS3 all I get is a totally white canvas. I have
checked that my preferences are all set the same, and they are. I
use this feature all the time for a variety of functions, i.e.,
combining slices to make one gif, etc. Am I missing something - or
is that function no longer there?
It shows it can open Html files, but it will not even open
it's own exported html files. Get "internal error." The file is
fine ( and it just created it.)No, it is not a bug at all. It is all about how you do this
and understand the primary functionality of Fw itself, and how it
do for you. If you don't fully understand how it works, then you
have problem trying to understand how it works and what's not.
Then, perhaps that you clearly do not understand the
functionality of Fw CS3, and how it relates to exported HTML files
created by Fw CS3.
It is very common, wide misunderstanding among other,
especially with newbies using Fw app, and they thought that if Fw
could create HTML code. Actually, it was created by side of
pre-scripted coding inside the app itself, and that it does the
rest for you.
As for working with sliced images around Fw CS3, as any
legacy versions of Fw, the concept of sliced images is often up for
the air and debates. Everyone have different opinion about sliced
images, and what not and what's cool.
I personally dislike sliced images. If having lots of sliced
images, means slower downloading time and more codes involved.
I get the feeling that you really not understand how Fw
works, and how it relates to your question about HTML code in Fw.
Please try to understand that FW itself CANNOT edit HTML. It only
just exports html code for you. However, it is important to note,
it is NOT perfect html code.
It is best IF you work with pre-scripted HTML code in
Dreamweaver, or any web authoring app to work with HTML directly.
If you are not taking my advice, so be it. I am out of this
discussion. End of discussion!
And good luck!

The reasons for opening an html file in Fireworks have
nothing to do with Dreamweaver or coding, just images and image
manipulation. If open html is an option, as it is, it should open
the file. It used to open with all slices intact, and all html code
behind it. Now it just opens a white page.
It is a bug and problem since it does not do as it should. -
Preview can no longer open eps files
I'm having difficulty getting Preview to convert eps to pdf, even for eps files that it handled fine 4 months ago. I get a "File error. Couldn't open the file." I assume this must be due to a recent update but I haven't been able to find any mention of this problem online. Has anyone else encountered this issue?
Yes, a [third party font management application|http://www.extensis.com/en/products/suitcasefusion2/index.jsp].
I don't have any experience with using eps so I can't come up with detailed suggestions. Maybe somebody else has more experience with how it all works. I can only make general troubleshooting suggestions. You can try starting in Safe Mode and see if that lets you do what you want (and thereby implicating some third party add-on). You can then try starting back in normal mode and see if that has restored things or the problem recurs.
[Mac OS X: Starting up in Safe Mode|http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107393]
[What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode? (Mac OS X)|http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107392]
[Safe Boot takes longer than normal startup|http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107394]
Safe boot mode runs a directory check command similar to that used by Disk Utility's repair. In Tiger it ignores some stored information (cache) that is normally read that speeds up the boot process, and it moves some other caches to the trash. It also uses only System fonts and disables all Startup Items, third party items, and any Login Items. -
Cannot view and Numbers can no longer open xlsx files
I used to be able to view and open these xlsx files and can no longer do either. I get a blank page with a folder corner page icon and an identifier that the document is xml when viewing. Numbers gives me an out of memory error on import even when I have lots of memory. I used to view these files every day. I believe it is changed since I upgraded to ios 6.
Anybody get this and have it resolved? It seems I can open raw files taken on an older cannon Rebel camera - none of them i'd tried to open in CC - but any Raw files from the cannon 5 mk11 even ones i'd previously opened in CS4 and those i've just taken won't open - the Camera Raw option doesn't appear and if trying to go straight to PS it saysPS does not recognise these files . Sorry I can manage things until they go wrong then I'm completely non techy - if i select a file in Bridge and right click i'm not sure what you mean by select the menu item to clear the development settings- Purge cache for selection ?? I could open these rebel raw files in camera raw bridge then I could reset camera raw defaults?

Can no longer open PDF files in Safari 7 using Mavericks - help??
I cannot open PDF files on my iMac - not sure why - I am using Safari 7 & have downloaded Mavericks - it says I have to launch Acrobat 8 and agree to terms (or some such thing) Please help. How do you make Reader 9 the default for opening pdf's? Help?
Back up all data before making any changes. Please take each of the following steps until the problem is resolved.
Step 1
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, and the problem is just that you can't print or save PDF's displayed in Safari, you may be able to do so by moving the cursor to the the bottom edge of the page, somewhere near the middle. A black toolbar should appear under the cursor. Click the printer or disk icon.
Step 2
There should be a setting in its preferences of the Adobe application such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected.
Step 3
If you get a message such as ""Adobe Reader blocked for this website," then from the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
and check the box marked
Allow Plug-ins
Then click
Manage Website Settings...
and make any required changes to the security settings for the Adobe PDF plugin.
Step 4
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
/Library/Internet Plug-ins
In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens by pressing command-V, then press return.
From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari.
Step 5
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others—I don't have a complete list. Don't remove Silverlight if you use the "Netflix" video-streaming service.
Step 6
Do as in Step 4 with this line:
~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari. -
Can no longer open Word files in finder since upgrading to Mavericks
When I click on Word files on my desktop of in a folder, the Word progrm laucnhes but file will not open. I can only open them through the Application. Any solutions to this? This seems to be across th board microsoft office issue. In Office 2008, so do I need an upgrade or patch?

Hi Brody, It doesn't work because Word wasn't in the dock and now I cant drag it there or do it via 'add to sidebar' - probably because of this awfull Microsoft . is there no other solution to work with mavericks and Word?
thanks for ideas
There, I fixed it for you.
I haven't used Word 2008 in quite a while.
If Word launches, but doesn't open the file, it is something in Word that is not processing the open request from the Finder.
You might try resetting the LauchServices database with this command in Terminal:
/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LaunchServices.framework/Versions/A/Support/lsregister -kill -r -domain local -domain user
Can you explain more about not being able to add Word to the Dock or Sidebar?
It may be a corrupt Dock plist or databse causing that. I don't think it would affect Word opening documents, though.
I haven't figured out how to reset the Dock and the Sidebar in Mavericks. The way I used to know doesn't seem to work. -
Can no longer open Numbers files on my iMac
I have had Yosemite 10.10.1 and Numbers 3.5 on my iMac and iOS 8.1.1 on my iPad2 for a while. Within the last 5-7 days I've lost the ability to open Numbers and Pages files. For a file named Budget, when I try to open the file, the error message is "The file Budget.Numbers couldn't be opened." I can open the files on the iPad. All software is up to date. Any suggestions?
Make sure that you are using the latest version of the Numbers software, V3.5. You probably still have Version 2.3 on your computer, but it will not open V3.5 files.
To make sure which version you are opening with, select the document file in Finder and Right-Click into the menu and choose Open With... and select the Numbers 3.5 item.

Since IOS8 update I can no longer open .rtf files in Safari
We have a system at work where by we have a lot of emails saved in our records as .rtf files. We access these on our iPad through safari by visiting our website, on the previous IOS they could just be opened within safari and they popped up in a new tab. Since the update they do not open, instead we get an error message dying that the file cannot be opened- "unable to read document, An error occurred while reading the document.".
Is there a fix for this?I have the same problem with Safari, it will not open any Rich Text File attachments in Gmail. I can see people thinking why is he using Gmail in safari? Two co-workers and I share a work related account and important stuff comes in by RTF file, the duty person can see it instantly there.
Anyway, I need to open RTF files using safari. A process of elimination, I found a free App that will let you "Open in" when you get an attachment in the mail.
IT is Called RTF Write by Mach Software Design.
(Apple you guys still need to pull your finger out and sort the IOS8 Issues. The RTF problem has been reported as a "Bug")
