Can no longer play iTunes-purchased TV shows in QuickTime Pro 7
Had to reformat hard drive due to nasty virus/spyware I couldn't locate and delete (AVG, AOL spyware protector, SpyBot Resident, Kerio Firewall, Windows Firewall all failed to stop it from entering and those plus AdAware all could not get rid of it). Upon redownloading and installing software (iTunes with QuickTime) I can no longer play the TV shows I purchased at iTunes. Is it because I had to copy them to another drive/disk . . . and then copy them back to my hard drive? I've scanned the files with AVG, SpyBot, and AdAware and came up clean. I've changed the file association from iTunes to QuickTime and from m4v to mpg or something . . . and back again.
With every change and attempt I get a pink hazy video, but when I fiddle with QuickTime preferences and save the defaults that it keeps automatically resetting itself to, I can see clear video . . . until I reopen the file.
Help! I am tearing my hair out. I am not tech savvy and cannot find a solution on the discussion boards or elsewhere.

Nevermind, I changed the metadata of the video file to "music video" instead of "TV show" and I am now able to add it to a playlist X amount of times under the video app.

After installing ITunes 11.1, I can no longer access my purchased TV shows that are in the Cloud. I have opened Preferences, went to store to see if the box is checked for displaying items that are in the cloud and this is in order. Still can't access these shows.
<Re-Titled By Host>I experienced the same issue. I am familiar with it from previous versions of iTunes and located the correct "Show iTunes Purchases in the Cloud" checkbox on your screen capture. Wasn't on mine. I decided to reinstall iTunes 11.0.1 and, as you can see from my screen grab, it is there now. Problem solved.

Hi I have an apple tv 2. I don't recall the last time I updated, but I was always advised against it. I was turning on apple tv but had tv on wrong output and I guess I accidently hit update. It says not to unplug or turn off, so I went ahead and let it update. I have a collection of old movies that I owned before RedBox came out, so I downloaded them to my itunes library. Now a lot of my newer movies will not show up on my playlists. Movies that were there before. Anyone know what happened, but better yet, please tell me there is a way to undue this new update? PLEASE!
I know it's not the internet connection, because I can go to my computer and airplay it to the apple tv with no problem. But this will be such a pain. -
I can no longer play iTunes rentals on Apple TV
I just rented a movie from iTunes, and when I try to play it via my Apple TV via AirPlay mirroring all I get is a checkerboard pattern. If I play on my laptop it works, but AirPlay fails with the checkerboard pattern.
I rented from the movie in iTunes, using my brand new Retina MacBook Pro onto my Apple TV. All in the Apple ecosystem. And it doesn't work. This arrangement worked in the past. I'm not sure what software "upgrade" broke this.
This is extremely irritating (and I don't look forward to being on hold for hours tomorrow when I try to get a refund). My entire family was gathered, with guests to watch the rental. We had to resort to Netflix. Which may be the permanent solution...
What's going on?I'm having this issue too. I can still rent movies from the top movies list or the the other viewers watched part, but I just can't search for them or bring up the in depth menus. Very annoying. Is this to do with the new apple tv release? Is the store being updated. Don't know about you guys but I'm in Australia having this problem.

Can no longer play video from Canon PowerShot with QT Pro
Don't know what's changed. I have played these videos many times before. They were taken by my son who is active duty Navy overseas, so they are important to me. The "Movie Info" from QT says the format is: 8-bit Unsigned Integer, Mono, 11.024 kHz/MJPG, 320 x 240, Millions. QT "Movie Properties" list MVI_0025.mov, but the Audio Settings and Presentation choices are greyed out. The Video Trach is shown as MJPG as you would expect. I can't "save as" or "export" so re-encoding is out. I'm at a loss here. Why they played before and not now is beyond me. They were added to my Hard Drive via Iomega's Floppy plus 7-in-1 card reader. The actual video was taken with a Canon PowerShot A510 and recorded to a SanDisk 512MB SD Card which I copied to my hard drive through the card reader with no problems. My G4 runs great with no problems. These videos were added to two logins which both fail to play now. Sound is fine. Anyone have any ideas how this could have happened or what to do?

Fortunately I can boot to OS9.2. The problem is that the OS goes so far back in time that I'm not sure I could figure out where to install a codec that would work. And I'm afraid the bigger problem is, where would I download the right codec? (In OS9 that would be a QuickTime plug-in, right?) I tried Classic, using QuickTime 5.0.2. No good. I get the standard message "Some necessary QuickTime software is missing. It may be available on the QuickTime Web site." I guess when I saw MJPG I was really thinking MJPEG and couldn't se why it wouldn't work. I see now that these are very different codecs. Thanks for bringing that to my attention. I did some digging and I believe the codec needed came with QuickTime 2.5. Also, if it makes any difference, I neglected to say that I use Flip4Mac WMV. I don't see how that would adversely effect a video file with a MJPG format but I thought I should mention it. Thanks for responding! -
iTunes says I have authorized five computers so I can no longer play music I have purchased. I have not replaced my computer once. Why does iTunes say this?

If you need to authorize your new computer and are unable due to already having five authorized computers, you can deauthorize all computers by doing the following:
1. Click iTunes Store on the left side of iTunes.
2. If you're not signed in to the store, click the Account button, then enter your account name and password.
3. Click the Account button again (your Apple ID appears on the button), enter your password, and then click View Account.
4. In the Account Information window, click Deauthorize All.
Note: You may only use this feature once per year. The Deauthorize All button will not appear if you have fewer than two authorized computers. If you need assistance on using this feature, please contact iTunes Store support via email (http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/store/).

Try to see if perhaps you are connecting the drive to a surge protector and it might not be getting enough power, try to connect the adapter directly to a power outlet on the wall to see if you get a different result. -
Can no longer play music that I previously purchased
After performing the iTunes and Quicktime upgrades last night, I discovered today that I can no longer play songs that I previously downloaded from the music store. I also cannot preview any songs in the music store, and I'm assuming that if I actually tried to purchase a song that it also wouldn't work. When I try to play a song from my iTunes library that I previously purchased, a window comes up saying that "this computer is not authorized to play this song" and requires me to enter my password. After I do that, it generally comes up with a message saying that machine authorization is successful, and that I have 2 machines authorized, although it requires me to do this every time I try a different song. After the supposed successful authorization, it starts "accessing the music store" (which makes no sense to me since these songs have been in my own library for over a year) and ultimately comes back with different error messages, including "We couldn't complete your music store request...The music store is temporarily unavailable" or just simply "there was an error in the music store" or "an unknown error occurred." The error numbers vary - 5555, 403, etc. Why is it even trying to access the music store when these are songs that are sitting in my own library?! Now iTunes is simply closing unexpectedly. I know I'm not the only one (to say the least) having problems, and I hope someone figures it out soon since we all have hundreds of dollars worth of music on our computers that we can't listen to. Unfortunately, I plugged my iPod in today to update it, and I'm scared to even find out what's been erased from it.

Quit iTunes...
Download Cocktail and start the program... click on the 'interface' Icon and tick 'Show Invisible Items' then click the Restart button...
In a finder window click on the Icon that is your Boot Volume in the Side Bar ... select users ... select shared folder ... select the folder named 'SC info' and put it in the trash and empty it ... Do Not touch any other file.
Pathway looks like this HD > users > shared > SC info > SC Info.sidb
Go back to the Cocktail 'interface' window and untick Show Invisible Items and click restart .. quit Cocktail.
Start iTunes after deletinng this folder and it will prompt you to enter your authorization information again ... see now if your problem still exists...

I can't get my itunes purchases to play on my other mp3 players. I don't want to download these programs people suggest on the internet.
And really, I shouldn't have to. If I've already paid for the music, why can't I put it on the device I choose? There must be a way. Any help? BTW, I'm using Windows Vista, (yuk)You can put the music on any device you choose, as long as the device can play the format. Purchases from the iTunes Store are in industry-standard AAC format. If you want to use them on a player that can only handle MP3, you need to convert the tracks. See:

Updated to iTunes 7 and can no longer play music off my iPod through iTunes
The title says it all. I can no longer play music from my iPod through iTunes now that I have upgraded. When I click on my iPod there is a little black lock beside where it shows the disk usage.
anyone have any ideas. I like some of the new features of this version of iTunes but it really seems to be a few steps backwards.That little lock usually indicates that the iPod is set to autosync. In order to play iPod content through iTunes, you have to be on manual sync.

After I recently Upgraded iTunes I can no longer play any movies or songs. It says that "The song ______ can no longer be playe because the original file cannot be found. Would you like to locate it?" I have no clue where to look as I'm not tech savvy. I did look in previous itunes libraries file and it's empty. Any and all help is appreciated.
The links below illustrate how your iTunes should look if you use default settings in preferences. If you don't use those settings then you have to know what you're doing.

The above links also illustrate the Media folder and its subfolders. Look for a file in there in the logical structure by folder artist and album. If you're lucky, linking one file will get an offer to link others and it iwll all come together again.
I see you are running OSX 10.5.8 it would help to know which version of iTunes you use now and which one you used before. -
I bought a Sandisk Connect Media Drive, downloaded the app from iTunes. Before iOS 8, movies played fine. After iOS upgrade I can no longer play movies downloaded from iTunes to the media drive. Anyone else have a similar issue?
I checked with SanDisk's own online support and they indicate that they have notified Apple of the issue.
According to SanDisk, the problem lies with Apple not having the iOS 8 version of the Safari browser having DRM decoding enabled that the Media Drive relies upon to decode and play iTunes DRM titles. Non DRM encoded videos will play in the browser.
DRM audio is not effected as this is handled by the native iOS music app.
As of the date of this post SanDisk have not been given a timeframe by Apple for this issue to be resolved.
I hope that Apple resolves this issue quickly as I have a large collection of DRM video titles on a 128Mb memory card installed in the Media Drive that I am unable to view. -

Why can't I play paid purchases that were purchased with an E mail address no longer used and the purchses won't sync to my I Pod. I can see them in my I Tunes library but when you click on the song it says Please Authorise this computer showig an old E Mail address and it wont work. ???
The Apple ID to authorize is very old, ( I don't have password) so I use my NEW apple ID and password
Why do you have a new AppleID and passwortd?
Just update the old one and continue to use it.
