Can no longer print via Airport Extreme BS Network

I can no longer get my Samsung laser printer (ML-1210) to print via my Airport Extreme Base Station Network. All I get is the Printer Center telling me that it can't find the printer. Prior to OS X 10.4.4 and Airport Firmware update 5.7 no problems, after OS X 10.4.4 and Airport Firmware update 5.7 some types of documents (.pdf) would print sometime and some types (.rtd) wouldn't print at all. After OS X 10.4.5 nothing prints.
The printer is connected to the AEBS via an USB cable.
So far directly connecting my PB to the printer via an USB cable seems to print OK, as far as regular text files (Rich, and Plain) are concerned.

I tried so many things I'm dizzy. Nothing done to the computer, not even clean installing OS 10.4 on an external HD and booting from that worked. What seems to have finally worked (????) was reverting the AEBS Firmware version down to version 5.5.1.
Since I print so infrequently I'm not going to say it's all OK until I do some more testing/printing.
In the mean time if anyone can give me an specific idea why this conflict may be happening and what else I can do to fix it without running my AEBS with older Firmware I would be grateful.
The latest driver for Samaung ML-1210 is a couple of years old and I think it is a proprietary code (not something standard like PostScript).
I'm not sure if it's only the AEBS Firmware or a combination of conflicts between the "OS Version-Printer Driver-AEBS Firmware".
Thanks.

  • Can no longer print via AirPort Extreme

I am unable to print via my AirPort Extreme. I have a LaserJet 1320 that prints fine when directly connected to my MacBook Pro, but when plugged into the AE, it does not. I am able to see and add the printer via Bonjour, but when a document is sent to the printer an exclamation mark shows up over the printer icon and the queue stops.
When I run Network Diagnostics the following message results:
Network Diagnostics was able to connect to the Internet but not to the server "hp LaserJet 1320 series.pdl-datastream.tcp.local.". This could be caused by problems with the server, or an Internet problem between this computer and the server.
This printer was printing fine via AirPort up until about a week or two ago. Is this related to the recent AirPort update?

Anyone else noticing that this problem seems to be reoccurring. I've gone through the process of restarting the Aiport Extreme about once a month since I got it. Everything will be working fine, and then one day, it simply stops. Restarting the base station gets things back on track, for a while, at least.
Seems to me to be a firmware problem on the base station, since it's repeatable. Sad to see others are having the problem, but I'm glad I saw this thread since I had convinced myself it was the printer and was about to replace it ...

  • Epson NX305 no longer prints via Airport since upgrade to 10.5

I recently upgraded my laptop from 10.4.11 to 10.5.8. Since the upgrade I can no longer print wirelessly using the laptop. The printer is an Epson NX305 all in one. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the driver multiple times. Epson says it's an Apple thing, not a printer thing.
The Airport Express is running software 6.3, which I believe is the most up to date available. This is PPC laptop, not an Intel based one.
When I go to print an document the computer sees the printer on the network. I click print and the document flashes on the printer screen for a splt second and then just disappears. If I connect the printer to the computer directly via USB it prints fine.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks!

Been having the same issues happening on the same machine as you. I did this yesterday, and so far so good.
    1. Restart in safe mode (Hold down shift key when you hear the chime)
    2. Under Applications > Utilities > Disk Utilities, select your hard drive on the left column, and click "Repair Permissions"
    3. Once done, restart
It's been a day since I've done this, and no beachballs yet (fingers crossed)

  • Printing via airport extreme then via ethernet to Hp Deskjet 6840

    Hi,
Thanks for any help in advance.
I have a powerbook and can't print to my ethernet printer. If I plug in the ethernet cable to the powerbook it prints fine.
Is it possible to print to a networked printer via airport.
I cannot connect the HP to the USB on the side of the airport as that would cut off the other hard wired macs on the network.
    Any ideas?
    Cheers

I've been using my 6980 wirelessly through my Airport Extreme router. It works very well even when multiple users are accessing. I don't have any of my machines hardwired though. It shouldn't matter, if your laptop can talk to the hardwired machines the printer should too.
Grab the 6840 setup guide and your software CD and follow the instructions for setting up wireless. Since the 6840 predates Tiger you may need updated drivers, but if you can print to it now you're probably OK.
If you have WEP activated, your network hidden, or both, the setup process is a little complicated. Let me know if that's the case and I can help you through it. I have a closed network with 128 bit WEP and got everything connected with few problems (took a little finagling).
If you don't have your setup guide handy you can go here for information:

  • Cannot print from IMac or Dell Latitude Laptop on Canon MX330 printer via Airport Extreme.

Trying to connect a Canon MX330 printer to an IMac and Dell Latitude laptop via Airport extreme and having no luck.
All devices recognize the printer, but when I try to print from the IMac it says that the printer is offline, even though it is not. The printer status on the IMac says offline until I clear the printer queue and then the status goes online.
When I try to print from the Dell laptop the printer reacts, but nothing prints.
I have run through all of the troubleshooting in the support section online. Any advice?

Unfortunately, not all USB printers are compatible with AirPort base stations. In addition, the  AirPort's USB port does not support the "advanced" printer functions, like scanning, copying or faxing, of multi-function printers.
To see if your printer is compatible, take a look at thisiFelix Unofficial AirPort Printer Compatibility link. If your printer isn't listed, it doesn't necessarily mean it won't work, but simply that it has not been verified. iFelix also provides the following workaround for printers not on the list that would certainly be worth a try.
Also you can try this Apple Tech Support article to see if it will help: Printer troubleshooting for AirPort Base Stations and Time Capsule
Finally, check out this IBM support article to see if your printer is listed as having a Postscript or PCL3 interface. If it does, then it will most likely work with the AirPort's USB port. Printers that use the "HP LIDIL" interface must be connected to a computer directly and will not work.

  • Can i plug printer into airport extreme while it is on

Can I plug a usb printer into airport extreme while it is on?

I cannot find airport in finder, don't know how to turn it off.
You will have to pull the power plug from the back of the AirPort Extreme to power it down. Wait a few seconds, then plug the cord back in.
Or, you can pulll the plug where the power supply plugs into the wall socket if that is easier.

  • Can't print from Win2000 to USB printer via Airport Extreme

Background: I have an Epson Stylus Photo 820 printer connected by USB to an Airport Extreme base station. My iMac is connected to the base station via an ethernet cable.
Using Bonjour for Windows 1.0.3, I've set up the Epson printer to print from Win2000 in a virtual machine in VirtualPC 6 which is running in the iMac. The setup process for the printer completed OK, without a hitch. (By the way, I loaded the printer driver from the printer's disk, because the driver for the Epson Stylus Photo 820 isn't one of the drivers selectable from the Bonjour window.)
Problem: When I try to print via the route that I set up using Bonjour, an error message appears, stating:
    - There was an error found when printing the document "mhtml.mid://00000047/" to IP-extreme986254.local.9100"\
(Note: extreme986254 is the name of the network I configured in the base station. Otherwise, the network is working OK. Also, my Win2000 in VPC is connected to the internet OK.)
When I re-try printing, I get the same error message.
When I hook the printer directly to the iMac by USB and then set it up as a printer for Win2000 in that configuration, I have no trouble printing to the printer.

  • PC no longer prints via Airport

I'm using a Dell PC (XP) and a G4 Powerbook, along with an Airport Extreme. My printer is connected via USB to the Airport and via ethernet to the PC. Since installing the most recent MS updates, I am unable to print from my PC while I am still able to print wirelessly from the Mac. I've tried:
    *updating printer driver
    *repairing Bonjour
    *reinstalling Bonjour
*confirmed that Windows firewall is off
    All to no avail.
This looks like the same issue: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=627856&tstart=0
If anyone has a solution to this new and exciting problem, I would appreciate any help you can offer. Thanks~

I used to use ZoneAlarm with windows, and even after uninstalling it, some ports were blocked. I had to visit their website and follow their instruction in performing a complete removal.
And yes, disabling a firewall does not necessarily turn everything off.
Booting up in the "Safe" mode might prove an interesting diagnostic tool.
If that fails, I would remove and reinstall the printer and see what happens and what, if any, error messages you get.
It seems that the last state ZoneAlarm was in before being removed "stuck" in a way. It was most likely a bug because special instructions are no longer needed to remove it, last time I checked.
I haven't used it in years, though, although I did like the idea of completely blocking everything when the computer slept.
Now, I turn everything off when it sleeps, which is even better.

  • Printing to a USB printer via Airport Extreme

I recently purchased an Airport Extreme and connected it to an ADSL router using ethernet. The router is then connected to my company network (PC, Windows, hubs etc). On the AE USB port, I also connected a Sansumg ML-1710P printer which works fine if I connect it directly to my Macbook.
I can add the printer (bonjour) but when I order it to print, the job with start and then just stop and the status indicated "error".
Did try several suggestion from this discussion including using the 10.4.7 combo update, update the CPUS to 1.2.1, connect/disconnect, download new driver without success.
    Anyone has any suggestion? Thanks.

Normaly this connection the way you describe it won't work.
The Airport Extreme Base Station is a Router as well
It is normaly done from the Internet Service Providers Modem with an ethernet cable to the Airport Extreme Base connected to the little cicle of dots on the back. It is set to distribute IP's and DCHP and then the arrows pointing away from one another is then cabled to the other Router and then plug in the printer to the Airport Extreme's USB and the other computers to the ethernet port on the 2nd Router, and it must be set NOT TO DISTRIBUTE IP'S

    hi...!!!!
i have got a belkin wifi router and i have been using this for ever but now since i have the Airport extreme i wanted it to connect it to my existing network and access my seagate HDD  wirelessly and obviously printing as well without hooking up any ethernet or any kind of cable to my Airport extreme router....
is there any possible chance for this????????
    help plzzz
the reason i cant use cables is beacuse all my printer, hdd and airport extreme, n airport express is in one separate room and the internet modem and the router is in different location.....
My Airport Express worked perfectly fine printing wirelessly and using air tunes wirelessly through connecting it to my existing Belkin wifi.....but somehow my Airport extreme doesnt seem to be happy with me doing the same process....
i would appreciate any kind of help i may get.....
here are some of my screen shots for AIR PORT EXPRESS and AIRPORT EXTREME

I gather you mean hooking up cables to your computer?  If so the answer is yes.  My printer is hooked up to my Airport Extreme through its usb port.  I can print wireless flawlessly.

  • Can no longer print from Airport Express

I have an Airport Express base station model A1084 that had been working fine. I have a printer attached to it that did work, but now whenever it is used it shows offline. The Airport is connected to a DLink DGL-4100 router which is connected to a cable modem. Wireless access to the internet works fine. I also have an iMac connected to this network. The Airport utility on the iMac can only see the Airport when I turn on the wifi on the iMac. If I turn off the wireless on the iMac, it cannot find the Airport. I have discovered that the iMac can print to the printer when the wifi is on but not when it is turned off. Performance is very slow. The other devices can see the printer but not print to it. I suspect that an update to something is the source of the problems. All of the software and firmware is up to date.
    Any help is appreciated.
    John

The Airport is connected to a DLink DGL-4100 router which is connected to a cable modem.
With the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) connected directly to the upstream D-Link router by Ethernet, I assume that you have the AX reconfigured as a bridge, i.e., Connection Sharing = Off (Bridge Mode) ... correct?

  • 1 out of 2 computers cannot Print via Airport Extreme

I have an Epson Stylus Photo 1400 connected to the USB connector on my Airport Extreme. I have 2 MacBook Pro Computers connected wireless to the Airport Extreme.
On one of thes computers I have no problem printing over the network on the Epson Printer.
On the other computer, when I want to print a document and click on file/Print, I get the usual dialog box and when I click on print, a fleeting popup is on my screen and nothing prints. The printer queu is empty and it says printer ready. When I plug the printer directly into the USB connector on the computer, it prints fine.
Apple support suggested that I make sure I have the latest printer driver, which I downloaded - no change.
I also reswtored the hardware preferences by booting up while holding down CMDoption+RP - no change.
Has anyone had a similar experience and what was the solution.

Did you actually install that driver and create a new printer entry in System Preferences?
This may not fix your problem, but try resetting the printing system: Open the Print & Fax panel of System Preferences, control-click (right-click) on the printer, and select the that entry from the contextual menu.

  • After my recent iphone update I can no longer print via "airprint" to my HP B110... help

when trying to print emails, I select "print", select the B110 that comes up on the printer list, then ask to print.  I get a screen saying "contacting printer", then "preparing" then nothing....
I can print wirelessly from the laptops.  All systems are on the same network.  I have downloaded an HP Eprint app and try to print from there via Airprint, but again nothing.  However, when I try to find a printer, nothing comes up from the search.
I am thinking maybe I need to alter settings on my iphone somewhere, but not sure.  All was ok before the update...
    please help

Installing the new os may have tricked one of the three devices involved.  If it used to work, it will again.
Reboot the printer.   Reboot the router.  On the pad, general, reset, reset network connections.
Make sure all the devices are on the same wifi network.   Talk nice to it.

  • How to setup a printer with Airport Extreme + Express Network

Ok so here's how things are setup. I have an Extreme connected to my cable modem creating the wireless network. I have a PC that doesn't have a wireless card, so I setup an Express next to it. The Express takes in the wireless signal, and the PC is connected to the Express through ethernet and has a successful connection. Next I want to connect my printer to the USB port of the Express and share it over the network. It doesn't work plug and play. From the Airport utility, the express recognizes the printer, however, the computers on the network do not see it. Can this be set up to work? If so, what am I missing?
    Thanks

If you are on PC's, you will need to download the bonjour for windows.
