Can no longer see Boot Camp Partition

Hello all,
I was having problems with booting into Boot Camp/Windows 7 (I was just getting a black screen), so I attempted to delete the boot camp partition and reinstall it. When I did that, the program hung for a while, and finally said there was an error deleting the partition. However, it appears it like halfway deleted it, as it no longer shows up! When I go into disk utility, Macintosh HD shows blue, and then there is a 50 GB partition (the size of my bootcamp) that is white, but it is unlabeled. I cannot adjust the partition to make it the whole HD, and if I go to boot camp assistant, and try to make a new bootcamp partition, it bounces back with an error message as well. I am wondering how I can restore the partition back to the original all mac hd partition..ANy help would be greatly appreciated!!

When you move to a new OS: clone your system, make sure you have backups you can use - for each - the partition table "rules" change with each new OS. And you want to reformat a drive from time to time especially then.
Carbon Copy Cloner 3.4 is a good way to clone your OS X partitions.
Basically, "start over" and restore to one HFS volume with OS X then run Boot Camp Assistant, then restore with Winclone image you made easier.

If you want to get rid of Windows and the BC partition use the Boot Camp assistant program to remove the Win/BC partition. Don't do it manually with Disk Utility Use the BC A program.

Can I install a BootCamp partition (Wndows 7) on a 1 TB on which OSX mac Yosemite or Mavericks has been installed first? I have a 2012 MacBook Pro, that already has a 400 GB Boot Camp partition, but I am considering replacing it with a fusion disc or an SSD since I shall have to install a windows compatible medical dictation application that could use a speedier disc. 1. On single-disk Macs, you can use an SSHD (as a single physical disk), but not an SSD/HDD. There is a no single physical unit which is a Fusion drive. A Fusion drive consists of a physical SSD and a physical HDD. MBPs on which the Optibay has an SSD/HDD and main bay with SSD/HDD will support a Fusion (aka CoreStorage volume). Yosemite supports a Fusion drive, which has an internal SSD and and external HDD (the reverse makes no sense, but is possible).
2. On newer Macs, with 1TB PCIe flash, you have an SSD as your whole drive.
3. The two environments, OS X and Windows are self-contained, on separate partitions. The underlying hardware is common.
4. On a Mini, which supports two drives, I have a 256g SSD/1TB HDD, in a DIY Fusion drive, with Windows on the SSD part. Bootcamp Assistant does not support this, but third-party tools can be used. The other option is to install OS X and Windows on a SSD, and later add an HDD and include into a CS volume. This is what I would recommend for you.
5. The 13-in 2012 MBP will allow you use a USB installer, without the need for an Optical drive, so it is possible to replace the Optibay with an HDD, create a Fusion drive. If BCA is used, it will put Windows on the HDD on this specific machine if the Fusion drive is created first.

How can I get my Boot Camp partition off my old drive?

I swapped out the stock 160gb drive that came in my MacBook Pro since it was acting up. I installed a new drive and restored it with Time Machine, but now my Boot Camp partition is still on my old drive. I slipped my old drive into a usb sata enclosure and tried booting from it in hope I could back it up with Winclone. When I went into the startup disk selector the drive would not show up (but it sounded like it was trying to spin up). Earlier when I pulled the drive out of my MacBook Pro it was still functioning fine, so I do not think the drive has failed.
Any ideas on how I can get the Boot Camp partition off the old drive? Thanks for your help.

Some drives require more current to spin-up from a "cold start" than most USB ports put out, even if the port supplies. Additionally, if the drive is failing, it may require even more power for the startup.
I have a couple USB enclosures with external AC power that I keep around in case I run into drives like this. Failing that, I also have a couple of USB cables which use 2 ports to provide additional current. Also the cable length, and gauge makes a difference.

Can VirtualBox use a Boot Camp partition for a virtual machine?

Having seen this question many times in this forum, I thought I'd let people know that the new beta of parallels can boot from your existing boot camp partition. It also has a few other features with some major cool factor. Check it out here.

it seems that in order to get Windows7 on to my old non supported MacPro 1.1 that I need to firist install onto this mid 2009 MacBook Pro I want to do the install onto an external firwire800 hard drive which I have formater and Downloaded and installed the Windows support folder using the boot camp installer but the installer wants to grab 20 gig of my internal drive for the win 7 install what is the minimun that I must have on the internal drive to install and use win 7 on the external drive?
is ther annother way to get Win7 onto my MacPro1.1 where it can live on an internal drive of its own. I do not have have it running on this MBP5.3 other than to get it running (64 mode) on the old tower In addition to the MBP I have at hand the esternal drive a blank 16 gig thumb drive and a firewire800 external DVD drive that I use mostly as a burner on the macpro as it is faster than the internal superdrive that it came with

I assume that is a product so then I can remove the bootcamp partition from my internal drive and boot to the firewire 800 drive or do I need to have a SSD drive inside the macbookpro first?

One option is to install OSX on an external volume - OS X: Installing OS X on an external volume - Apple Support and booting from it to erase the internal disk without using the Recovery Console.

Can no longer dual boot after upgrade

Hi I used to run mac osx 10.7 dual booting with ubuntu 13.04. I used to press alt at startup to view the different partitions and select the appropriate OS. After upgrading to 10.9 I can no longer see the ubuntu partition when pressing alt. The disk is still there intact, but there is no way I can directly boot to it from startup. I tried creating another partition using disk utility and installing a fresh copy of linux and using the old linux partition as backup but whenever I select the ex-fat (or any other type for that matter) (for linux) I get:
File system resize support required, such as HFS+ with Journaling enabled.
I erased osx 10.9 and reset to factory settings back to 10.8 but the same problem continues.
I am not sure what to do to get dual booting working again. I do have an ubuntu backup on an external drive, but I would prefer not reformatting that partition.

I don't know why you couldn't repartition the disk using Disk Utility. You would have to provide more information about why you can't.
As for OPTION booting Ubuntu I'm not sure how that worked. Typically Ubuntu installs the GRUB bootloader/manager that provides a text menu from which you select which OS to start. GRUB replaces the OS X boot manager.

Any way to reduce the size of Boot Camp partition?

I made my Boot Camp partition way big and now I'd like to smallify it by about half, down to 60G or so (it's 130G now). Is there any EASY way to do this?

In Vista (Ultimate in my case), RightClick My Computer -> Manage: select Disk Management. In Vista you can shrink your (C:) Boot Camp partition which leaves OS intact but allows another install to new (D:) (extended) volume created within space. In XP, I think same can be done with Diskpart.exe which is in \System32. As I have, you can install another Windows OS to the new partition.
I can't see data from Leopard OS for the extension made, though I can see Ntfs files and copy/paste from original Windows (C:) volume bootcamp set up. I do not know if formatting the new split to Fat 32 would make it a share space for Leopard.

can i keep my Boot Camp partition intact when performing a clean install of SL?
does it allow me to format only the Mac partition of the HD, keeping the Windows (Boot Camp) partition untouched and fully functional?

I would move to SL if, and only if, I had an external drive with a bootable clone of my internal on it and had my files backed up separately on a second partition of the external. I think that there is enough risk in going to SL that such conservatism is warranted. I would not use time machine. Without getting into detail, it can be highly problematic. You will be able to extract your settings, files, and programs from your clone if you do the current version of an erase and install.
To erase and install, start up to your DVD and stop after selecting your language. Use the menus to start Disk Utility and erase you drive. Quit Disk Utility and proceed with your installation. At the end, you will be able to choose to reclaim your settings, files, and apps from the clone (leave the external drive plugged in during the installation).
If you do not like SL, then you can restore your internal using the clone. I would do all cloning and related restoration with SuperDuper. This app is up to date.

Can't see Windows 7 Boot Camp partition from Mac

I've had a Win7 boot partition on my 2011 MBP for a while and it boots just fine. I have a Mac boot partition, a Mac data partition, and a NTFS Win 7 partition. But the Boot Camp partition is greyed out and invisible when booted in to the Mac.
When in Windows, I can see and use the Mac partition from Win7 with MacDrive. The problem is that I cannot see the Windows partition from the Mac. I have Paragon NTFS for Mac installed as well as MacFuse. I tried to see the partition with CampTune and got this error:
I also tried going to the BootCamp Assistant and saw this:
Yet when booted in Windows, I see the Mac partition just fine.

Does anyone know if I can repair this without having to re-format? I have a 13" White MacBook as well and this setup works just fine. I did it such a long time ago that I forgot how I did the first one.
There is another thread on here that similar but not quite like my problem because I ca actually boo into Windows.

Boot Camp partition added to VMWare Fusion...can't see original partition

I originally installed Windows XP Pro using Boot Camp. The partition was available using the OPTION-startup to select that partition.
Then I installed VMWare Fusion and had it "use" that Boot Camp partition so I could access it while running Leopard. Now when I use the OPTION-startup I don't see the original Boot Camp partition.
I check the information on my internal hard drive and it shows a total of 290Gb available when the hard drive is actually 320Gb (30Gb for the Boot Camp partition).
I'm wondering my options:
A. Can I use a Windows XP disc to install another Boot Camp partition or will it deny me because there is one still detectable?
B. Can I restore the ability to see the apparent Boot Camp partition on the hard drive from the OPTION-startup screen?
C. Is the simplest solution to reinstall Leopard and then reinstall the Boot Camp partition?

UPDATE: So I tried to reinstall Windows XP using the Boot Camp Assistant but after choosing to create a new 32 Gig partition, the Utility failed, said it could not be created and suggested I try running repairs on the disc using the Disk Utility.
After running the repair disk feature in the Disk Utility here's the results:

Can no longer opt boot to Windows; Parallels and Boot Camp issues

So I was reinstalling my Parallels since it wasn't reading my Boot Camp partition correctly and I removed my old boot camp profile in Parallels. I figured this would only affect Parallels. After all, I was going to make a new one since my Parallels wasn't working very well. The removal of the profile seemed painless and it was instantaneous (so I don't think it formatted the partition). I then went to restart, and now my comp won't boot to the partition.
I can no longer view (or access) my files from Windows. I panicked and restored the profile from the trash, but I still can't access the partition. I can't even see Windows from the Start Up disk, but Parallels can detect that I have Windows 7 (even though it won't boot properly).What do I need to do to be able to get my Windows partition back? Do you have any idea whats going on with my comp? Can the removal of a virtual machine profile delete an entire OS in an instant?
Disk Utility says that my partition needs to be repaired, but I don't want to do anything until I get an expert opinion.

Leave your Testdisk display and start a new Terminal Window. Please use the following steps. The 104 sector positive offset is a good sign.
You need to use the following steps. If you see any error messages during the following steps, please stop and post back here with the error message. The following steps have values from your Testdisk output (and you can verify) in Steps 7 and 8.
Rebuild GPT4 using start/end offsets

Rebuild MBR to match the new GPT information thus resetting the Hybrid MBR. Use defaults for other questions (like partition codes). The only values that need modifications are the Boot flags and step 6. Accept all other defaults that Gdisk offers.

R   (Recover)
H (chooses Hybrid)
Partitions numbers to be hybridized: 2 3 4
Y (Good for GRUB question)
N (part 2 boot flag)
