Can Not Back Up My Pearl

I have downloaded Desktop Manager successfully. When I go to back up my pearl it says that it is going through all of the stages to back up my information. But when i try to open it up on either Outlook Express, Adobe Reader, or Microsoft Word there is no information transferred. I have tried numerous things to try and correct this and I do not know where to turn. I have read some of the advise given on here through other posts but nothing has worked. Any help would be appreciated.

I would recommend that you upgrade to the latest version of DM 4.6.
Use this link to make a clean un-install of the old DM:

Does your external hard drive have it's own power supply? It should.
Is your external hard drive formatted with the NTFS file system? It won't work.
It needs to be formatted either with Mac OS Extended or FAT32.
(There are drivers available to add NTFS support to OS X but their quality is unknown, especially the "free" ones.)

Deleting the backup only permanently deletes the backup from iCloud. It doesn't do anything to the data currently in your account or on your devices. To delete it, go to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>Manage Storage, tap the name of the device that you want to delete the backup for, then tap Delete Backup.
You can't see anything in an iCloud backup, if that's want you're asking. You can only restore it to your device. You can, of course, see your other iCloud data.

You need to upgrade to the next OS 10.6 Snow Leopard by purchasing the DVD online.

and once installed, use Software Update
- to update to 10.6.8
- and update your iTunes.

Close your iTunes,
Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
(Win XP SP2 & above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
netsh winsock reset
Hit "ENTER" key
Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now.
If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset, refer to this article to identify which software in your system is inserting LSP:

I just upgraded from a Iphone4 to a Iphone4s and I was told I could back up my Iphone4 to my computer and restore the back up onto the Iphone4s. So I appear to be right.. you cannot back up to the internal storage, only to an inserted microSD card..
Anyone care to screen capture a backup on the internal storage? I'm interested to know if anyone can get it working because as I expected, it doesn't work on mine..

I don't know how to change the location of the backup files, but on my n900 it uses the internal memory.
I have not used a microSD card on my N900 so far, maybe it selects the location when the backup program is used for the first time?
The problem with the "no memory card inserted" looks like a bug though.

You're out of luck, then. Either that is not the computer it's set up to sync with, or the passcode was set AFTER the last time you synced, as Lawrence tried to explain.
You're going to lose your data.

Have you tried a soft-reset ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider if it appears), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

Close iTunes & navigate to:
~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
and delete everything in that Backup folder, but not the folder itself.
