Can not copy files to network share

Hi everyone.
We have a Windows Server 2003r2 64-bit. There are a few network share on this server and folders with user profiles (we use roaming profile in our infrastructure).
A few days ago some users lost possibility to copy files on any network share on this server. Windows says "Not enough space on the disk", but free space on server is about 12% (100gb). If copy files to other server, everything is OK.
Log on user to another PC didn't help.
If join user to group "Local admin" on server - files copying succesfully.
Creating new folder with FC permissions for this user didn't help.
FSRM role isn't installed, no quotas.
Anyone ancountered whith similar situation?

Hi,
It seems that you configure disk quota on users to limit the disk space usage.
Configuring Disk Quotas on NTFS Volumes

If you configure disk quota on users, users cannot save data on the disk when the users exceed their quota limit. By default, quota limits are not applied to the Administrators local group. Thus, the uses joined to the "Local admin" group don’t have
the issue.

  • Can't copy files to network share using migrated account

Man this is so bizarre. I got a new MacBook Pro and used the Migration Assistant to copy over everything from the old MacBook Pro. Everything seems to work except I can't copy files to my desktop via a network share.
What's totally bizarre about this is that I can delete and rename files from the network share! I can also drop into the command line and try copying - at first, I get "Operation not permitted", but if execute the command again, it works!
In the Finder, when I try to copy a file, I get a window that says:
"You may need to enter the name and password for an administrator on this computer to change the item named "xxx". If I click stop at this point, a zero-byte file is created on the target machine.
If I click Continue, I get another window that says "The item "xxx" contains one or more items you do not have permissions to read. Do you want to copy the items you are allowed to read?
If I click Continue, I get a final window that says "The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges for some of the items".
Note that this also happens in the opposite direction when I connect to my notebook from my desktop.
Also note that this only happens with the account that was migrated. I can successfully copy files if I setup a new account.
I've repaired permission on both machines. My old account on the old MacBook Pro still works fine, btw.
I've seen other posts with people having this problem, but I've yet to see a good solution.

I had the same problem, but I managed to fix it.

  • Mac OS X can not copy files...?

I am very new to Mac OS X and I found it strange that I can not copy files from my hard drive (docs, spreadsheets) to a blank CD-ROM disk. I called the local Apple store and they said I have to buy a third party application to copy(burn) files to CD-ROM disks. I am not talking about copying copyrighted files, just plain old Word and Excel docs. Does anyone know if this is true? I have to get a separate application to do this? Thanks, Tony.

You can certainly copy files to to a blank CD without extra programs. But once there is data on the disc, it becomes much more complicated to add data at a later date.
Windows, however, had a proprietary CD filesystem that let you use the CD like a floppy disc, where you could add and "erase" files randomly.
You can buy an inexpensive program called BurnAgain that does something similar on the Mac.
    http://freeridecoding.com/burnagaindvd/
Frankly, though, I think CDs make bad floppy discs. There is much more chance for data corruption when they are re-written.
I'd recommend an inexpensive USB Thumbdrive (Flashdrive). They come in all sizes and really do work like a giant floppy disk -- only much faster. They are dirt cheap. You can find one the capacity of a CD for about $10 or less. DVD-size flashdrives are now under $40 some places.
The easy way to burn data (once) to a CD or DVD is to create a Burn Folder. Hold down the CTL key and click once on your desktop. You'll get a pop-up menu with a choice to create a New Burn Folder. Name the Folder what you want the Disc to be named. Then open the folder and drag the files or folders you want to Burn onto the burn folder. It will actually create links (aliases or shortcuts in Windows terms) to those items. Click on the burn button at the top of the folder and it will ask for you to insert a blank CD or DVD.
You can discard the burn folder if you are through with it, because it just contains alias (shortcuts). But I must warn you that if you navigate into the subfolders of those shortcuts, you will be dealing with your actual files. So please, don't delete anything inside a folder inside a burn folder -- those are your real files!

  • Can't copy file to network drive as "The operation can't be completed because the [Filename] is in use

Following upgrade to Yosemite I now can't copy files from iMac to my network HDD in external media center. I have iMac connected by wi-fi to airport extreme and media center connected to airport extreme by cable. I can see the HDD as a network drive on my iMac and can initiate the copy but right when copy process is finished I see "The operation can’t be completed because the [Filename] is in use". I am trying to copy different media files downloaded from internet which are not used by any program and stored on my hard drive. I actually can copy small files of 1mb and it works but anything above 20mb is halted. I can also move/copy/delete the file on iMac. Cant understand the nature of the problem. I tried to format external HDD as EXT2/EXT3/NTFS but same outcome.

  • Can't copy files to network client's folders

We just switched from ARD 2.0 to ARD 3.0. ARD 3.0 is a great product - if it works. I can only copy files to ARD-clients, if I copy to the local hard disk, i. e. if it is a local client or if it is a network client and I copy to the top level of the volume. But if I copy files to the network client's desktop it doesn't work. I think the reason is that the network client's desktop is located on the server and not on the local hard disk.
The same problem occurs if I use the new feature to copy files from or to a client using drag-and-drop with the observe window. It works with the client's local hard disk, but not with folders located on the server. This time there is no error message, but the message "waiting" - and the waiting never terminates.
Has anybody a helping idea? Thanks!

  • Can not copy files to another hard drive for backup

    30May07
    Apple Support:
I need to copy files from my home to an external hard drive because I need to do a complete re-install, and erase the laptop's hard drive.
When I try to either move the home folder the icon is a house, I get an question stating that some of my files do not have permssions, do I want to continue anyway (Yes, I do!)
A bit into the move, I get this message (dealing with permissions):
    Can not copy 1528.emix . Error code -36 .
I have no such file or any .emix files either. I was able to copy to whole hard disk, not just the home to the same external drive two weeks ago.
How can I copy my HOME to my external drive so I can reinstall the OS?
    Thank you for your help

    07Jun07
I believe the problem was my computer's internal drive. It corrupted several files. I had a very hard time copying the files. The -36 error stopped any transfer cold.
I did a complete install of the OS.
I need a way to determine what files are corrupt so I can delete them. It took 24 hours to constantly keep trying to copy the files to the external drive. I ended up deleting a lot of un-corrupt files. How can I determine which ones are bad so I don't delete good data?
Thank you for your help. I am also grateful to the Apple Store in Tucson, AZ.
You are having a hardware problem - there's a problem
on one of the drives in this story.
This can be caused by extra hardware connected to the
computer, so if you have anything extra connected to
the computer (external iSight, iPod, USB hub,
    anything) disconnect it.
If that doesn't help, try reformatting the external
    drive and try again.
If that doesn't help, just rescue what you can,
because the next step is that you're going to be
    reformatting the internal drive.

  • Can't copy files to network drop box

I'm running an Ubuntu server with netatalk (afp server) running and serving a couple afp shares. In one of the shares, I have a drop box directory that is owned by user "foo" and has group "bar". My Mac system username is "dude" and I also have a user named "dude" on the server. On the server, "dude" is a member of group "bar". The drop fox directory has permissions drwx-w----. The goal is to have a drop box that only "foo" on the server can read, but "dude" and other users in group "bar" can write to. I have other directories on the share with permissions drwxr-x--- foo:bar that "dude" and other users can read but not write to. In Mac OS X when I connect to the server as "dude" and try to copy a file to the drop box, I'm notified that I won't be able to see the copied file and then the copy fails with "The operation can't be completed because you don't have permission to access some of the items." The files I am trying to copy are owned by my user and I tried changing their permissions to rw-rw-rw but no luck. I also tried adding +x for the group on the dropbox. I checked the netatalk configuration and there's no permission mask being applied to the share.

I had the same problem, but I managed to fix it.

  • Access Denied Errors Copying Files to Network Share

We recently upgraded to Coldfusion MX 7 (7.02 Windows) and
Windows 2003 Server. Now I am getting access-denied errors when
attempting to copy files to a network share (not a mapped drive -
    \\server\share) using <cffile action="copy">. All other file
copy operations work fine. This has been working fine for several
months but broke when we upgraded to MX 7 and Windows 2003. Any
suggestions for a solution would be apprectiated.

I figured out what the problem is in case anyone else is
interested. The Coldfusion Application Server service is by default
set to run as local only. You need to set this service to run under
a user that has access to network resources and rights to the
    destination path.

  • Can not copy files from computer to external hard drive

  • Can not copy files from locked CD

I have some old CDs from around 2002 that are locked and I am unable to copy files off the discs to my Mac and when I check permissions on the discs it will not let me change it from read only.
    What do I do?
    Thanks.

CDs are read only always (assuming commercial CDs or burned CDRs).
So how it is you are trying to copy the files off of the CD? What happens when you do whatever you do? Does nothing happen or do you get an error message of some sort?

  • Can not edit file on network shared folder after upgrading to windows 7

Merry Christmas and happy new year,
Due to some configuration changes on a specific application, I have forced to upgrade OS of a few number of workstations from Windows XP to windows 7. After upgrading I am facing a strange problem on WIN7 workstations. These workstation are member of a Windows
2008 R2 Active Directory domain which also has a Windows 2003 advanced server additional domain controller. Also there are a number of shared folders on some member servers (all windows 2003) which are mapped as network drives at user logon. Before upgrading
mentioned workstations to WIN7, users was able to edit his/her files on all of mapped network drive according to his/her permissions without any problem on their WINXP workstations, But after installing windows 7 they begin facing problem on one of these mapped
network drives and the problem exactly is when they edit a file, in more specific word an excel file, and then try to save, the excel returns an error message of "document not saved" and exit the excel program. It becomes more strange when you learn
that the edited excel file is disappeared and replace with some "tmp" file. If user copy the excel file to his/her own desktop, edit it and then copy it back to its original place on mapped network drive, it will be replaced normally with its older
version. In other words if user wants to edit an excel file on that specific network drive, he/she must edits it somewhere else and then replace it on the network drive. If the same user uses a WINXP box, there will be no problem.
Can anybody help me to fix the issue?
    TIA
    Bijan

    Thank you Karen,
The problem is fixed, but my case was none of what you suggested. In fact I have
another problem which I described in another question and it was of the root of this excel file issue. I describe what I have done to fix the latter problem hope to help fixing similar issues to mine.
Okay, as it is described in the
question, I was not able to open a shared folder with its UNC address while it could be mapped as a network drive without any problem. I examined what I was replied and some other ways, came to no result. I decided investigate a similar shared folder in
permissions to problematic one to see if the problem is repeated. So I created a folder and shared it with similar permissions and examined it. Surprisingly there was no problem. It was wise to remove sharing of the problematic folder and share it again to
see if the problem resist. But when I tried to remove sharing I received an error message saying that
the shared folder is related to a DFS root. When I took a look at the DFS roots of domain there was no sign of the problematic folder (that made me recall that I created a DFS root with problematic folder mistakenly and removed that DFS root).
After little searching, I found out that the problem could be caused by traces of the removed DFS root. Yep! I found the suspect! The registry key
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\DFS\Domain\problematic shared folder. I removed the key restarted DFS service and log off and on and Bingo!
This problem pops up a few more questions:
    1) Why is not the registry key related to removed DFS root deleted from the registry of windows 2003 server?
    2) Why was I able to browse this ex-DFS root shared folder without any problem in windows XP while it was problematic in windows 7?
    3) As there is no special client service for DFS and user can access DFS root targets like other shared folders what is the deference between shared resource access mechanisms in windows XP and windows 7 that caused the problem?
    Bests,
    Bijan

  • Can't copy files to network drive

I have a network drive attached to my Airport Extreme partitioned into 'Network Drive' and 'Network Backup' partitions. I successfully backup wirelessly to Network Backup. I'm sure I have files currently in the Network Drive partition but I can't see them when I open the partition in Finder. I have a folder with files that I want to copy from a local drive to Network Backup. However, after I drop the folder onto Network Backup, I get the following series of dialogs.
    Please advise.
    TIA,
    David

Through the magic of rebooting, this is now working. Still curious what might have been the root problem here.....

    Hello Laura,
most comments which I know say, the best would be to copy all your photos into a directory (with corresponding subdirectories) by help of a file manager. From there LR should find all your photos.
Maybe these - from former LR versions - may help anyway:

  • Can not copy files

sorry if this is duplicate question but I could not find the answer anywhere..!
I have ARD 3.2 on my macbook pro and I am connected to my mac mini and but every-time I tried to copy a file either way it wont work I keep getting this error: "Copy failed on all"

I get the same message, although usually after the copy succeeds about 80-99% of the way. Then it fails.

  • Media Manager can not copy file error 47

In editing a program together, I converted a powerpoint presentation using keynote into a Quicktime movies using the DV settings. All well and good and I have output this to tape and DVD. Now, when I try to use Media Manager to make a trimmed down archival copy with extraneous materials removed, the program reports it cannot copy this DV movie. The error reported is 47. What's up?
I am using a completely upgraded FCP 4.5 on a G5 with 1.5 GB RAM and hard disk space galore.

Through my research I believe the "error 47" must relate to an imcompatible frame rate from your native sequence frame rate. I've done the tests and once I changed the frame rate of the problem clip(through conversion), I no longer had any problems.
Where is there a list of these error codes? That would be nice.
