Can Not Delete Mail Folders

I have a number of folders on an IMAP account. When I ctrl click them (one at a time) and choose delete mailbox I get an error message -
The IMAP command “DELETE” failed with server error: Internal error occurred. Refer to server log for more information. [2008-11-01 12:50:10].
When I log on to the account in question via browser the folders have gone but I can't get rid of them in Mail and I don't understand why.
I have deleted all the messages that were left in the folders and then tried to delete the folder but that doesn't do it. I have also gone into my home older > library > mail > IMAP account name foler and deleted the files in there with the same names as the folders I want to get rid of but when I restart Mail they reappear and so do the files in the library > mail folder.
Any advice appreciated.

PS For what it's worth, the first time I attempted to delete a folder from the this IMAP account it worked fine but for some reason since then I have the issue described above.

Hi Dave,
That is strange. Since the folders are indeed deleted on the server, and you're using IMAP, consider making a second similar account within Mail.app->Preferences->Accounts and let it sync all messages and folders with the server. If it succeeds and you're satisfied, remove the original email account from the Preferences->Accounts section and hope the folder-deletion-problem doesn't return.

I have an IMAP account in mail which i can not delete
I have a server but this account is Not associated to it however it has the same alphabetical content as the servers website excepting the part before the servers name.

It doesn't work here as well. Try the "-" to delete account, it keeps coming back.
I also tried go into my mail folder in user\library\...IMAP-... and deleted that folder, it keeps coming back.
Besides,
1. my IMAP server is no longer available. (where my can-not-be-deleted IMAP is associated
2. I have just upgraded to OS X 10.6.2
Anyone has a solution? Please help... the non delectable IMAP is very annoying.

I have set POP mail account earlier but I do not want this account now. I am trying to delete the accont but there is not any button delete account as IMAP mail account have. What is happening? How can I delete the account?

There isn't any reason this POP account should not be able to be deleted. Are there any Restrictions set on the phone? Who is the provider of this email account? I'll assume that you are trying to delete it from Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars? You go to the Mail section, select the account in question, scroll to the bottom of the account page and select delete. However, you are saying when you do this, the Delete Account button does not exist, correct?
The next troubleshooting step after a reset is a restore from backup. You can try that if you like. What happens if you go into the account and toggle the on off button at the top of the account?

Can not delete mails - deleting the trash (junk file) does not helping - any other ideas?

Its on Win 7 with Thunderbird used for many years.
Got directed some junk files where they belong - after some month - means now it is not possible to delete any file from any
Thunderbird catalog.
New mails are arriving as normal...

Outlook work fine.
If I delete a message in OWA i became the following errors:

First, I would like to confirm the following questions:
1. Does the issue occur on certain user mailbox via OWA or each user mailbox?
2. Which OWA folder’s email cannot be deleted, Inbox, Sent Items or each folder?
3. Which version of operating system is installed on the client machine, Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7?
At this stage, I suggest you temporarily disable firewall and anti-spam for a test. If the emails still cannot be removed via OWA, please refer to the following article
and use isinteg tool to check and repair Information Store.

I can not delete mail the inbox, only apparent deletion

More than one mailbox to the thunderbird (ver. 24.5.0). The default growing inbox. When I delete one or more letters of the inbox file size does not change. If I delete all of them, even! The "folder repair" will not fix the problem. The "Deleted messages" are not shown, but are included in the file inbox!

C3-01 can´t delete mails with attachment

since one week I have the C3 touch & type. It`s a very nice mobile phone. But I have a problem: I can not delete mails with attachment in the mail programm. Mails without attachment are no problem. I have an mailaccount from "1und1" (Germany). Has anybody an idea, how I can solve this?

The only way I've been able to delete them is to delete the email account from the phone, then add the account, again.

Replying to my own post - heh. I downloaded iExplorer (http://www.macroplant.com/iexplorer/) which allowed me access to the files on the phone and there was the phantom movie in the DCIM folder. Deleted it, and all is well - although I still have 0.65gb of Other in iTunes.....

Someone might stop by who has experienced/fixed/read about this before. In the meantime...
By "re-indexed my email" do you mean you rebuilt the mailbox via the "Rebuild" command in the Mailbox menu? Did you try that for all the affected mailboxes?
Also, you might try experimenting with the settings in Mail, Preferences, Accounts having to do with whether junk mail messages are stored on the server and whether they are to be deleted.
Does this behavior persist when you are not connected to the internet?

2 Mails stucked in outbox and can not delete them..

Hi I'm Daniel, I have a problem with my mail app on my mac, last week i tried to send 2 videos using mail drop but my application wasn't working at all, i close the application and send the videos using googledrive but now when I open my mail app theres 2 mails on the outbox and I CAN NOT DELETE THEM its frustrating because every time i click on the mails and select delete my mac gets stuck and i have to shut it off with the power botton. I tried to delete my mail accounts and put them back on, but it doesn't work at all, i tried to remove some folder that i saw in another discussion here but it doesn't work, please help me!
