Can not enable 802.11n on my MacBook (Core 2 Duo) running Snow Leopard.

My MacBook has the AirPort card saying "a/b/g", so I know that it is not yet n-enabled.
It is INDEED a Core 2 Duo.
It is running Snow Leopard.
When I try install the enabler off of my "AirPort Extreme: 802.11n Wi-Fi Wireless Base Station" disc, it tells me that "This volume does not meet the requirements for this update.".
Is there ANYTHING that I can do?

  • Will Macbook Pro Intel Core Duo run Snow Leopard ok?

I have the following system spec on my Macbook Pro which i bought in Apr 2006:
    2.16 Ghz Intel Core Duo
    2 G 667 Mhz SDRam
I would like to know if Snow Leopard will run on my system. I have been getting a few glitches for the last while when running internet related searches for certain sites like Youtube, and sometimes with streaming video. I figured that maybe i need a more up to date OS as i've been a bit slack with updating it. Any thoughts fromt he community are welcome

Yes. You can run Snow Leopard OK.
As you're starting from Tiger it's imperative you backup your current system before proceeding. That's best done by cloning it to an external HD using the Restore function in Disk Utility, or you can use third-party software such as CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper.
The reason for this is that although the installation should go smoothly with the installer replacing system files and leaving your user data and applications untouched, I have come across a couple that failed and could only be installed after erasing the Macintosh HD.
Buy the retail Snow Leopard disc; http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A?fnode=MTY1NDAzOA
and update to 10.6.8 with the combo installer; http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
Be aware that lots of software will need updating, not all of it for free (stand up, Adobe!), and you may well have difficulty getting drivers for older printers or scanners.
Ensure you select Rosetta from the optional installations to enable your older software to continue working.

  • Will a macbook late 2008 will run Snow Leopard 64 bit?

hi, just wondering if my macbook aluminum which i bough this february, but assembled in november 2008, will be able to run Snow Leopard 64 bit?

No one will know that until Snow Leopard actually ships. However, Apple has already published a list of Macs that will run the 64-bit version of Windows Vista and MacBooks are not on that list (only the latest MacBook Pros and the Mac Pro are named). Here is the link:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1846
Of course, Snow Leopard and Vista are two completely different "animals," so we'll just have to wait and see. I'd guess that there is a chance that your MacBook will support 64-bit, but I wouldn't claim that it would be a certainty.

Every time I turn my iMac on it will not connect to the internet until I open System Preferences / network / Assist me. that reports that my internet access appears to be OK, and hey presto my web home page appears, and everything if ok. Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work.

If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode.  Shut down the computer and then power it back up. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the grey Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal.

  • Macbook will not enable 802.11n

I have installed the software that came with the router several times and it still won't show /n. I don't want to buy the enabler if I already have it.

bellfam, Welcome to the discussion area!
Go to the Apple menu. Select "About this Mac". Does it say "Core Duo" or "Core 2 Duo"?
If it says "Core Duo", your MacBook does not have the 'n' hardware and is not compatible with the enabler.

  • Slow wireless connection 802.11n AEBS and Intel Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro

I have three Macs all currently connected wirelessly to the new 802.11n AEBS.
    Mac #1 - PowerMac G5
Mac #2 - 17" MacBook Pro Intel Core Duo
Mac #3 - 15" MacBook Pro Intel Core 2 Duo
The wireless connection speed (when using the web browser) is fine for both Mac #1 and Mac #2 but noticable slower for Mac #3. All three Macs are sitting right next to each other. All three Mac are getting an excellent signal. All three Macs are running the same version of the OS. All three Macs have identical network setting (as far as I can tell).
When connecting Mac #3 to the AEBS via an ethernet cable, performance is good. I've also tried configuring the channel manually in the AEBS to channel #1 but this did not help (seemed to help others in a different thread). Additionally, I ran the 802.11n enabler and performance was bad both before and after its installation.
Any idea why the Intel Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro would be performing differently?

Ok eveyone. I did some digging and was able to get the network speed back with my Core2Duo machine. I put the Airport Extreme into Bridged mode and connected the Ethernet cable to one of the LAN ports, not the WAN port. After that everything works great. for more information check out this lengthy thread...

Apparently the new base stations have a few issues that need to be worked out so I'd consider this a workaround. There should be no reason to have to do this. Good luck.

  • Can I fool the Mac App Store into thinking my mini runs Snow Leopard Client rather than server?

I've googled this to death and can't find an answer because, well, Google ain't all its cracked up to be.
I highly object to Apple forcing you to pay for both Lion Client & Server if you have a server model Mac. Especially seeing as Lion Server software is just an app that sits on top of standard Lion, and that you can remove/disable it anyway. I bought a Mini from a chap in Hong Kong purely because it was way more powerful for the price than any Mini's available running a client OS here in the UK. I have no intention of learning to use the server side products, its not an interest and never will be. Plus some of the ways in which OS X 10.6 server operates gets on my nerves because of the control the server has over certain functions.
I'm happy to go through the process of a fresh install of retail Snow Leopard firest IF I really have to as it's cheaper than Lion & Lion Server, but ultimately it's just £26 spent for the sake of it. I was wondering if anyone knows of a system file that can be tweaked so when the App Store checks my OS version, it doesn't see server, only standard Snow Leopard?
Having read the online instructionals on how to move and save the download files and then perform a fresh install from a boot device (as the upgrade under the above circumstances would likely wreck the system) I'm living in hope I don't need to go through retail Snow Leopard first.
    Thanks all!

Probably the best idea although do read their Terms Of Use first. Do realize that anybody here who answers your question is in contravention of the YOU as much as you would be for posing the question.
    But good luck

  • I can not open some of my files which I created mac os snow leopard.

    Hi everyone,
I creat very complex art work with AI.  Most of the files under os lion are fine without problems. But some of my files get this error.
    Does anyone has similar problems?
    Any help I appericiat.
    Thanks.
    Fumio

I read about the real matrix and quite frankly it is complex and it seems to me witout really understanding it that something has gone wrong with the interretation of your a gradient or gradients in these files, that is on th mathimatical side, that you might not be able to fix and unless one of the engineers comes around with an actua insight into this you might be out of luck.
Having said that yu can try this placing the file in a new bank ai file and saving with a new name.
    Or
Try opening as a smart object in photoshop and an then edit the smart object but only save it as a new ai file with a new name.

  • Macbook Core 2 Duo Excel 2008 Not Responding

I have a Macbook Core 2 duo with Snow Leopard. I have Microsoft Office 2008 and recently my computer is running slow, but now excel will not load at all. It shows the color wheel and then the "application does not respond". What should I do

Thanks for all the helpful answers. I mainly use the Korg legacy collection synths, and a variety of Waves plugins, and my current macbook can run quite a few instances of the synths and plugins, so I guess based on the information given the base mac mini should be able to handle my projects ok. As has been mentioned, I guess the best thing to do is to try it.
    Thanks again,

  • I can not use CanoScan N670U with my Macbook pro. I download canoscan toolbox 4.1 from Cannon website. It keep saying "the scanner plug-in was not found". Please help

I can not use CanaScan N670U with my Macbook Pro. I download Canoscan toolbox 4.1 from Cannon websit. It still keep saying "The scanner plug-in was not found". Please help

There is a solution (I'm running Snow Leopard on a Core2Duo iMac, but this problem arose when I was running Leopard on a G4 PowerBook too).
    Problem:
You download the OS X driver for the scanner from Canon's site. I already had the CanoScan Toolbox (4.1) stored on an external drive.
You unzip the driver and run the VISE installer. After a search it finds your copy of Photoshop (and maybe even the CanoScan Toolbox), and you click to install on that/those location(s).
You get a couple of error messages, which you click through.
You restart your computer and try to run the scanner but you get an error that the driver is wrong or missing and the process will abort.
    Solution:
BEFORE you restart, and with the installer package still open -
    1. Copy the Into_CFMSupport_Login & Into_CMPrefs folders to
    Applications : Canon Utilities
    Applications : Canoscan Toolbox
and remove the prefix Into_ from each folder
    2. Check whether the installer placed N067U_Library.shlb into the top level (not User level)
    Library : CFMSupport
and if it didn't, move it there yourself
THEN restart, and try again. It worked for me (via Photoshop), but whether it will work for everyone, I don't know.

  • Can I run Snow Leopard on the new iMac

Apple is warrantying me a new iMac because I have had many problems with my current machine. It's a late 2008 Intel Core 2 Duo 2.66 Ghz machine that I have been running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 on. I have a lot of software that runs on Snow Leopard.
They will be replacing it with a new 21.5 inch iMac running Mountain Lion which will be released in the next week or two. My plan was to partition the hard drive, keep part of it for my current Snow Leopard and gradually migrate over to Mountian Lion.
Alas, they have told me that the new machines will not run Snow Leopard at all so partitioning is out of the question but that I can set up a "Virtual Computer" that will allow me to run Snow Leopard within the Mountain Lion Structure. This will allow me to still use my older software in a setup not unlike the Classic system that the early OSX used. The tech told me I would have to get some 3rd party software to do this but was not much more helpful.
Im looking for some specific info on what I need to do to keep my Snow Leopard viable on my new machine while I gradually migrate over to Mountain Lion.
    thanks,
    Rob

Here is a post that I assembled for a similar question:
Unfortunately you got caught up in the minor miracle of Rosetta.  Originally licensed by Apple when it migrated from the PowerPC CPU platform that it had used from the mid-1990's until the Intel CPU platform in 2006, Rosetta allowed Mac users to continue to use their library of PPC software transparently in emulation.
However, Apple's license to continue to use this technology expired with new releases of OS X commencing with Lion (and now Mountain Lion).  While educational efforts have been made over the last 6 years, the fact is that Rosetta was SO successful that many users were caught unaware UNTIL they upgraded to Lion or Mountain Lion.
    Workarounds:
    1. If your Mac will support it, restore OS X Snow Leopar - not available on the newest iMac;
    2.  If your Mac will support it, partition your hard drive or add an external hard drive and install Snow Leopard into it and use the "dual-boot" method to choose between your PowerPC software or Lion/Mt. Lion - not available on the newest iMac;
    3.  Upgrade your software to Intel compatible versions, or find alternative software that will open your data files;
    3.  Install Snow Leopard (with Rosetta) into Parallels:
Full Snow Leopard installation instructions here:
    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1365439
NOTE: STEP ONE of the instructions must currently be completed on a Snow Leopard or Lion Mac and the resulting modified Snow Leopard.cdr install file can then be moved over to your Mountain Lion Mac for completion of the remaining steps.
NOTE 2:  Computer games with complex, 3D or fast motion graphics make not work well or at all in virtualization.
And according to the author, it's not forbidden by the client EULA. Can't say for sure if the same method will work for Mountain Lion, though. He may have updated it here or on MacRumors, but I'm not aware of an update, or whether one is needed.
I do not give legal advice on MacRumors,  I do contend that it is a common Urban Myth that the Snow Leopard EULA forbids its virtualization.  Further, in the more than one year that I have been offfering my Snow Leopard into Parallels solution, NO ONE has met my challenge during this period of time to show me one, official written statement by Apple that would support the conclusion that Snow Leopard's EULA forbids its virtualization.
The method does work for Mountain Lion, with the proviso of the NOTE above about currently having to do STEP ONE on a Snow Leopard or Lion Mac.

  • What do I do to get my MBP to enable 802.11n?

I have been wondering why my internet connection wasn't as good as my girlfriend's who recently got a new MacBook, so I purchased the 802.11n enabler because in network utility it only had 802.11 a/b/g so I looked at the requirements and it was noted that the "n" came with Intel Core 2 Duo processors, but mine is just a simple 2.16GHz Intel Core Duo. I have upgraded to Leopard and the reason why I mention this is because I have also read that when upgraded to 10.5, Leopard automatically updates to enable 802.11n. Well I sit and wonder if something went wrong while updating? probably not, but I can't even install the AirPort Extreme Update 2007-002! @!#$? I have a mac, it runs 10.5.2 and the requirements for that update are 10.4.8 and higher, and an Intel-based Macintosh. I meet the requirements. Should I have had updated the Airport Extreme before updating to 10.5? Why is this a problem? it should be easy... right?

That's exactly what you need to do - and what I did a year ago. Check iFixit.com for instructions. Check this out
