  • I can not publish my iweb site to moblie me

I had originally written and published a site with no problems.
However since then I tried to publish my changes and the iweb would show up as "not responding"
I tried other avenues to change my site which at first worked then failed so I deleted the site amd tried to start over thinking that may solve the issue.
It still will not publish merely stops reponding
Just to clarify - I found that I was able to make changes by publishing the iweb to a folder and then uploading the altered files to mobile me. This worked fine to start with but then I added some hyperlinks then uploaded the replacement html pages again - this caused the whole layout to change. This is the reason why I basically deleted the site.
I can still not publish my site now - same problem when I click the publish or publish all it freezes!

    Hello Frank,
The good thing of all your efforts is that you could determine the problem to iWeb.

Well, there are at least 2 more well known issues that you didn't verify yet, at least I didn't see it in your post.
i get a portion of the files published only.
This is a clue to these 2 issues: a wrong filename or a problematic widget.
Go back in history to the point where you had your last successful 'Publish'
Have a good look at the filenames of the pages you created since then.
Is a very big chance there is a "wrong" character in the name or 2 spaces..
With a little bit of luck, when you do a Publish, you can see iWeb hanging on the name
of the problematic page (not always).
If it isn't the filename, try selectively remove widgets and do a Publish.
The moment Publish works, you've found the villain.
As this tip involves deleting things, make a backup of your domain file first.
Let me know if these tips don't apply to your situation.
I still have one radical solution at hand.
    Kind regards,
    Leo

  • Can not publish to iWeb 3.0.2, maybe a sync problem, how to solve it?

My earlier MacbookPro died and I got a new one. Since then the iWeb does not work at all. I have a valid Mobileme subscription till spring next year, but iWeb does not show the existing sites (which are in the other computer) and does not start publishing and does not want to sync the existing sites into the new one. I can publish to Homepage, though.
The only action iWeb does is to take me to the Sync window, it confirms that I have a valid subscription, but thereafter nothing happens.
This must be a problem with sync settings, I gather, but where do I find it, and the key to solve it?
I do NOT want to sync all information from this computer to mobileme or viceversa, otherwise I loose info stored from the previous computers to my iDisk and mobileme spiderweb.

You need iWeb's Domain file from the other computer (your old MacBook Pro) — here's a diagram of where it usually resides:
...But since it "died" and presumably inaccessible, see this Apple doc on How to back up MobileMe data. It says:
“Any websites you have published with iWeb should still be available within iWeb. iWeb stores everything in a Domain file, normally located in the ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder (although it can be moved). If you no longer have this file, you can view your currently published pages and manually recreate them within iWeb, but *there is no way to import published pages back into iWeb*. You can manually back up the Domain file, or use Backup to back it up.”
By the way, here's the normal procedure when your old computer has not died:
_iWeb: Modifying your site from another computer_
iWeb: Publish to your MobileMe account from more than one computer

  • Still can not publish by iWeb

always show publish error "an error occurred while publishing file /Web/Sites/xxxx"
and I can not find any problem. Please help.
    Thanks,
    Chris

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. First try the basic fixes: 1 - repair disk permisisons; 2 - delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple. iWeb.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder.
Next try to publish to a folder on the desktop? If still not successful get the name of the file that's giving you problems and try the following:
1 - *first make a backup copy of your domain.sites2 file*.
2 - open the working domain.sites2 file and see if you can located the problem file.
3 - move that file to the desktop.
4 - open iWeb and check each page to see if you can tell what was removed. If ithe item was one that you added, i.e. a photo or graphic, you may have to add it again.
5 - publish again to a folder. If you get it published to a folder, open the site in your browser and check the pages carefully to make sure all elements are present.

  • Can not publish to iweb after upgrading to icloud

I have upgrdaded my mobileme account to icloud but did not realise that iCloud does not support hosting iweb and that I will have to find a new host, But the support page tells me I can still publish any changes through mobileme until June 2012 even though I have upgraded.  But I can't see how. When I press 'publish site'  I get a message saying that I have upgraded to icloud. Can anyone help me!

    Try this:
go to the System/MobileMe preference pane and log out of MMe.
login with a bogus username and password like "Ying" and "Yang". This clears the caches.
login with your correct username and password.
    launch iWeb and try again.

  • I can not publish with iWeb.

I seem to be in a circle of prompts. "sign in to mobile." I do and "your account has been upgraded to iCloud." How do I now publish my website?

Are you really on 10.5.2 as your signature suggests? - because this does not work with iCloud in any event.
Assuming you are actually on 10.7.2 and have migrated to iCloud, you need to go to System Preferences>MobileMe and sign in - the migration process tends to sign people out. Then iWeb should work OK, publishing to MobileMe just as before.
iCloud does not provide any website hosting or general files storage in the manner of iDisk; as MobileMe will be terminated next June your website will disappear then unless you find another host for it. You can publish to another host using iWeb provided it is up to date. More details here:

  • Can I publish my iWeb 2.0.4 site?

Can I publish my iWeb 2.0.4 site? I designed it, hit "publish" and it went to now-defunct Mobile Me...

I do believe you can publish your website to a folder.
I think (it's been a while since I have used the older version) in the File menu you should have an option to publish site to a folder.
Then you will need to use an FTP application like Cyberduck to upload files to your web host.

  • Can not publish Ical in 10.5

I can not publish my large work calender to the web. Every time I try to do so I get a message that it is unavailable. I have opened/closed; published/unpublished; exported and imported the calender and still nothing. I really need to be able to publish it
It worked till I went to 10.3

Same problem here. Publishing to http://mydisk.provider.net says
    "The server responded with
    "HTTP/1.1 503 Service Unavailable"Service not available"
However simply mounting http://mydisk.provider.net as a WebDAV Disk in the Finder is no problem so I blame iCal rather than my provider for the occasional(!) error.

  • Can not publish or export CS4, Vista

    Hello all,
I'm hoping someone has had this problem and can help. I am using a new computer with Vista. I'm using Flash CS4. My flash document is huge and has an imported video in it. So the file size is 675 MB. (I'm guessing this is the problem). Anyway, I have moved the flash document from the server to my computer. I also saved it as a CS4 version - it was created in MX. I can not publish it or export it. I need it to be a swf file, html, or .mov. I was able to do it once as a swf file, but I needed to make changes to it and now I can't get it to export again. The progress bar shows up like it's publishing, but when it's halfway done, the window disappears and nothing has happened.
It's enough to drive you insane. Does anyone have any thoughts?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello,
Well, I converted it into an flv after I read about it in the help. But the quality was horrible. It made the video into a smaller file, but it made it grainy and pixilated. I think the original format of my video was the problem, however. Because I was reading in the CS4 help docs and it said the only format you can import is flv. I originally imported the wmv into Flash MX and then opened that file in Flash CS4. So I bet when I went to export from CS4 it would process until it got to the wmv and then just stop. Would be nice if there as an error message. Still doesn't explain why I was able to export it from CS4 once though! Oh and the help also says that you should only embed a short - 10 second etc - video directly into the timeline in Flash. oops! Mine was 12 minutes, ha.
Anyway, thanks for the idea about just using Windows Movie Maker. I didn't know you could add titles to scenes until you mentioned it and then I read about it in WMM. I had to trick the program a little to get my titles to be on the top of the scene instead of the middle, but it will work for next time.
    Thanks!

  • Can't publish my iWeb site - has index file something to do with it?

Hi, I've been trying to publish my iWeb site (not on a .Mac account but through ftp upload) but it hasn't worked out so far... I phoned my webspace provider's support service and the wguy I spoke to was convinced that it's due to the index file not being an .html file (he thought that the problem lies with the index.xml.gz file). Searching the discussions on this site, I figure that this isn't what's causing the problem after all...
To continue working on the site while using another computer, I copied the 'Domain' over. Now that I've brought it back to the original computer, it seems to be causing these problems. Any idas what I could do or where the problem lies? I'd be really grateful for any hints as it's driving me 'round the bend! Cheers, A

Did you name any of your site's pages "index"?  That can cause problems.
Are you able to publish your site to afolder on your hard drive and open it locally with your browser?  If you haven't tried  do so and see if you can.  If you can and the site works as you designed it then the issue is in the uploading of the files.
In that case you might try using  Cyberduck to upload your site folder and  index.html file to your server.

  • Can't Publish Site, Can't Access iWeb

I am so far beyond frustrated it's hard to think straight. I have been having nothing but problems with iWeb for weeks, and I can't find any answers or help. Ever since I got the notice that .Mac Homepage is going to be retired, I have been trying to update the 1400+ Homepage pages on my site to iWeb so I can make changes as needed to the pages in the future. I have a music review and interview site (I don't sell anything), and I need to update as many of these pages as I can before July 7. In the past two weeks, I've been able to update only a few pages because iWeb freezes, disappears, drops the updates, or the little ball just keeps turning. I have worked so hard to make MainlyPiano.com a top-notch site, and since I upgraded to iWeb '09, it has been nothing but heartache. Instead of writing new reviews, I'm spending all of my time trying to get this program to work for me again, and it just keeps doing everything except what I want it to do. Apple Support indicates that there is nothing wrong with the program. Why then are so many of us having so many problems getting it to work properly, and why does it work properly for a little while and then crash? iWeb was working fine on my iMac for a long time, and now I can't bring the site up on that computer at all!
I updated a couple of pages this evening, and they published in record time. I went to update another page and the program froze, so I quit iWeb. Then I couldn't get iWeb to open to the site, so I rebooted. The two pages I updated are now online, but I can't access them in the iWeb program. How can that be? This is like an ongoing nightmare and I don't know what to do to fix it. Can someone please give me an idea of where to go for some answers????
    Kathy

I know this, but I need access to most of my pages so I can update them as necessary. The biggest problem is that most of my updates either don't publish or iWeb freezes while I'm working with it or my new pages disappear like they did last night. They are online, but they aren't on the iWeb application so I can't access them. I just quit and reopened iWeb to see if they came up, but they did not. I saved them both before I published, so I don't understand this at all. I still can't get the site to come up at all in my iMac. My forehead is getting very bruised from banging my head against the wall!

  • I changed web hosts and can't publish through iWeb SEO Tool or Rage Site Map Automator. Do I need to delete the old site map?

I switched to iPage hosting since Mobile Me is expiring. Also recently upgraded to OS X 10.7.3 and am using iWeb 3.0.4 for my web site design. I published directly to the FTP from iWeb but all title tags, meta tags have disappeared and I'm not showing up in Google or others. I tried publishing from iWeb SEO but it couldn't complete the process.
Should I first publish to a folder as I did before with Mobile Me, then delete all old sitemaps and start over with the Site Map Automator and then try to publish from the SEO tool? Will I lose the key words and meta tags that are already in iWeb SEO?
    Thanks!

The problem is that most tech support people don't understand how iWeb structures a site.
When a visitor types in "domain-name-com" the browser expects to find an index.html in the root folder on the server. In "normal" websites the index.html file is the first page of the site.
The iWeb index.html file is a redirect to the first, or landing, page of the site which is the one at the top of the left column in iWeb just below the site name.
    iWeb produces two index.html files.
One is outside of the folder containing the rest of the files and directs to - folder-name/home-page-name.html
The other one is inside the folder and directs to - home-page-name.html
You have two choices of how you upload the files since you are publishing to a local folder.
You can upload the whole folder plus the external index.html to the root folder on the server and the URL to any page will be...
    http://www.domain-name.com/site-name/page-name.html
If you upload the contents of the site folder, and not the folder or the external index.html, the URL will be...
    http://www.domain-name.com/page-name.html
See this page for more info and the warning about breaking the RSS feed....
