Can not receive calls on number

i am so frustrated right now I can spit!  I signed up for a skype number.  when i call the number from a land line I get a busy signal.  when I call from a cell phone, the phone beeps once (not rings) and ends the call.  CUSTOMER SERVICE HAS BEEN AWLFUL.  I have tried everything they asked me to do including multiple requests to reset my privacy.  I keep asking to speak with someone and also questions about why voicemail is working if the phone doesn't connect and I get no answer from them.  I guess they do not have a call center and I feel like they are just sending me worthless questions and instructions just to wear me down and hoping i will go away.  
Thanks for letting me vent.  Has anyone else had similar experiences?  Are there any alternatives to Skype?  I use to love it but if I can't get the phone number working, i need to find an alternative.

I am terribly sorry to disappoint you; however, whilst I am appointed as a Community Moderator, I do not know everything in minutia detail about Skype.  I beg to differ with your view; I am indeed not inconsiderate -- I answer as many questions as I possibly can and hope another more knowledgeable Community member follows my tracks to lend assistance where I cannot. 
Please also remember our Community Guidelines do explain the Community is not an extension of Skype Customer Service. 
For Skype Numbers which are not working as expected, I always recommend contacting Skype Customer Service directly to enquire.  Customer Service has the tools to determine what may be going or has gone awry as well as to resolve issues.

You will need to proceed through each step, one at a time. Sign on to the Skype website as requested. Choose the subject and topic which most closely matches the item you need assistance with. Then, continue past Step 2 of the instruction where several articles from the FAQ library will appear for you to review, and proceed to Step 3, Continue Support Request (the blue "button" appears at the lower right corner of the website page). You may also skip through Step 4 where you will be referred back here to the Community; no need to do this as the Community is where you started. When you complete the webform and click Submit, your information is relayed to Skype and you will receive a reply via e-mail.
If you are a Skype Premium or other eligible customer, you will be routed to start an instant message chat session with a Customer Service agent.

    Try using your iPhone from a different wi-fi hotspot location.
    If you can send and receive FaceTime invitations from more than one other place like Apple Store, internet cafe, coffee shop, etc., you need to troubleshoot your home wireless network as suggested in these articles:

    If your FaceTime cannot properly work from any location, see your Apple-Authorized Service Provider to have your phone checked.

    I also have a similar issue since upgrading from the 4s to the 5s.
    The issue I have is, issue number 2:" If I do receive a text message/iMessage notification, it disappears within 5-10 minutes before I can even check (no other notifications disappear)"
    Which also consists of the same events in the last message from monicash "So for example, if i get a text while sleeping... i wake up in the morning to check my notifications and there is nothing there because it disappeared (even though there should be a notification there with my current settings that are ON)."

    Hi, does your step dad have a smartphone or tablet? If he does he can load the Skype app and connect to the wifi in his home.If he doesn't have a smartphone then look into getting an Android smartphone from wherever you buy phones from in your country. An entry level device will be sufficent if you don't want to spend much money.  You can buy a Skype compatible regular phone but they are not cheap and have to be connected by ethernet to your home router http://dualphone.net/ Another option is to forward his Skype number to his landline (if he has one) and answer the calls there, then use his laptop to make outgoing calls when needed. A subscription would cover this quite cheaply.

    I should point out that it worked when the iPhone was set back to factory settings, but when restored with the backup, data/internet no longer works again, and I get the "Could not activate cellular data network" error message yet again.

    I can not forward calls. I go to call forwarding, turn it on, copy and paste my phone number into the correct field (including the international dialling code).
    I then tap the Call Forwarding button, which takes me back one stage and the Call Forwarding button goes to off after a couple of seconds. Anyone who can help?

    Yes, a blocked call will go immediately to your voice mail.
    If you would rather not have that behavior, ask your cellular carrier if you can block that person through the carrier.

    Hearing that your calls aren't going through is very worriesome and we want to help. Lets check something out. Please turn off Advanced Calling by going to Settings>Cellular>Enable LTE and then place the check mark next to Data Only. After that please turn the phone off, remove the SIM for 30 seconds, put the SIM back in, and turn the phone on. Let us know if that resolves this issue and kicks your calls into working for you.

    Launch iTunes on your computer, plug the phone in & on the "Summary Pane", select "Restore". This will restore the phone to factory settings with all of your son's stuff gone. You can now use it as an iPod touch. To do this REQUIRES the deactivated sim card be still installed in the phone.

    i have a honda crv, 9 month old. I have before an iphone 5 s, it was perfect./ios7.1.2/
    after soft update 8.0 disconected from hands free system, every 5-6 second, over 2-3 second back into connection automatically.
    After i changed into iphone 6 / only 8.X/
    It was an update. i think 8.0.2 for this problem, that this update was bad.
    This problem is by lexus, VW, and another 2 Honda CRV, 1 civic / 2024 /
    ONLY 8.0 or higher soft

    Today was 1 minutes call, by calling was 4-5 disconnect episodes

    It sounds like you are unable to make or recieve phone calls because the screen goes black. I would start by quitting all the running apps on the device:
    iOS: Force an app to close
    Double-click the Home button.
    Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
    Swipe the app up to close it. 
    When you have done that restart the device and test the issue again:
    iOS: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
    If that does not resolve the issue, I would use the troubleshooting in the following article, named:
    iPhone: Troubleshooting issues making or receiving calls

    Is your phone locked to a carrier? If so, you will need to contact the carrier to find out what international SIM cards (if any) you can use when travelling.

    Get SIM from the carrier who sold the iPhone.
    Or Get it unlocked from them if they offer unlocking service.
